The food is delicious and the drinks are good, but too sweet for my liking. The chips are also always warm and are my favorite in the area. There are a few things that make a Mexican restaurant go from good to great in my opinion: 1. A liquor license Aka margaritas and pina coladas 2. Tableside guac 3. Birria tacos 4. Churros/Flan/Tres leches cake Plaza Azteca has all of these and more. When my husband's favorite Mexican restaurant closed down about 4 years ago, he was searching for a suitable replacement. I used to abhor the place he loved, so when they closed I celebrated. They only ever had one of the four things I love about a great Mexican restaurant. Since then, Plaza Azteca has taken their place and I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review. We celebrated my husbands birthday ( his third celebration of the week) with his family on a Sunday evening. We arrived at 5 pm on a Sunday and were seated at a large table by the kitchen doors. We were a party of 9, so we didn't mind the location and honestly it wasn't an issue at all. We ordered drinks and table-side guac, naturally, plus the queso with the chorizo. The guac cart arrived super fast and the table ate it even faster. Make sure you have a few dollars to tip the guac maker. The queso arrived in a steaming skillet and almost seemed too thick to dip, but we made it happen. For our entrees, everyone at the table got something different. I did the birria tacos because they're my favorite. A few other items ordered were enchiladas, chimichangas, the pina loka, and the molcajete which is basically the same thing as the pina loka on a grander scale. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, but the best part was the birthday song. They actually bring out maracas and tambourines and various instruments to sing. The churro cup filled with ice cream was the perfect dessert to end the celebration. read more

When the Mexican craving hits you have to obey. So I stop by Plaza Aztecs to get my favorite seafood dish. The first steps into the restaurant and you'll be greeted with Christmas decor and festive Mexican music. It's a nice cheery reminder of the holiday season and I was seated with my family in the view of the pretty tree. Our waitress started us off with chips and salsa (not my personal favorite but my brother and dad ate them up). I got the Seafood Chimichangas, which they revamped from what I use to get. Sadly-- it wasn't a good improvement. It used to be smothered in that creamy lobster sauce and could get either soft or fried. It was absolutely indulgent and not something you could eat a lot of, that's why I loved it. It was still delicious and I enjoyed very bite, but it's different when you know what it used to be. My dad got Quesadilla Rellenas, the beef and the chicken. He said the chicken was well cooked and very flavorful but a bit too salty for his taste. My brother ordered Tacos de Carne Asada, which he just gave a thumbs up when I asked how it was. So must be pretty good. The service was very accommodating and attentive during this visit. I hope to head back and maybe expand my tastes. But I just love seafood so maybe not lol. read more

We ordered fajita nachos.... Which are our absolute favorite from here. Unfortunately, I do not usually order for pickup online, and did not tap on the bar that drops down that said mixed veggies,( broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots) im assuming I could've chosen chicken...I just thought ok maybe it's a side with that. I was so happy to find this place on my trip home to NJ. They had a clearly laid out vegan menu which was awesome for me!!! The restaurant was beautiful. It fit the theme for sure. There were some people dining al fresco but we did decide to sit inside. I forget our servers name but he was so kind. He checked on me a few times as I was waiting for my friend to arrive. I got the Vegan Bowl which was huge. I love that it came with guacamole! I had to take half home. It's worth noting that they do have vegan cheese! They also serve coffee which was great to enjoy while waiting. The margarita menu was tempting but I was driving. It must have been someone's birthday because the staff came out singing with instruments. How fun! This was a great place to grab lunch and I'll probably be back on my next visit home. read more

This spot has become one of my favorite Mexican places to eat at in South Jersey. I love the food here is the portion size is amazing and they even let me bring a puppy with me to sit outside and we were social distanced away from others near the patio area. The service here is awesome the prices aren't bad at all and the environment is good for a date night as well. My first time here I got a burrito Mexican that was steak and it was amazing I didn't think they could be top so I came back again and got the same burrito but with chicken this time and surprisingly it was even better. Went this evening for dinner. Everything was great. Ordered the street corn, beef empanadas, fajitas verde (?), and the carne asada. Everything was hot and flavorful..not the generic seasonings you get from a lot places. Only criticism was I wish the street corn was charred. Servers were on point. We had a late lunch here on a Sunday for my mothers birthday. We were a party of 10 and the wait was approximately 25minutes (the restaurant does not take reservations). They adhere to social distancing and as of now mask are mandated. The restaurant is spacious, clean and at this time of day was busy. Our server Josue was informative, attentive and did well with our orders (a large group can be chaotic). I ordered the lunch mixed fajita, empanadas and guacamole. The guacamole was tasty and it is made right at the table (which is a nice touch). The empanadas were good but lacked a bit of seasoning. The fajita was good, cooked & seasoned well; the lunch portion is smaller (I used 3 tortillas). We did have a mishap where half of the tables food was freezing cold but the server immediately replaced the meals with fresh orders. They were out of the chocolate cake dessert but the fried ice cream was delicious. They sang happy birthday which was a cute touch. Overall a decent experience but a bit pricy compared to other similar type restaurants in the area. read more

Waited 15 minutes for our check before getting up to find someone to get it for me. Had the smoky mezcal margarita. Loved the tajin rim. However, the drink was very very weak, extremely sour for an orange juice based drink. And $21. I didn't take a picture of my meal because it was nothing worth sharing. Huge plate that was entirely too hot to be served to someone with the tiniest serving of food. I got a combo for $16. Taco, enchilada, and burrito. The enchilada and burrito were the exact same item in a different tortilla. And both were bland and unimpressive. The taco was shockingly American and couldn't have been further from an authentic taco. The taco had the same exact filling as the burrito and enchilada, but with lettuce and American cheese.
