We went into Plaza Garibaldi on the spur of the moment. I did not even consult Yelp reviews. I know.. Sacreligious! Now looking at some of the reviews, I'm left scratching my head... We loved it - the food was great and service was quick. The place was packed and we were literally the only non-hispanic customers. In fact, our waitress did not speak English, but we got by on our limited Spanish skills. The restaurant was nicer inside and accommodated more people than I expected from my initial impression of the hole in the wall exterior. My husband ordered the Bistec (Steak) Ranchero and I got the Pechunga (Chicken) a La Mexicana. Both were served with beans, rice and a side of corn tortillas. Loved this hole in the wall Mexican joint in Asbury. I'm huge fajitas fan and they did not disappoint. I had the shrimp fajitas on a sizzling cast iron pan. Love my food hot! It comes with rice and beans and all the fixings. Great presentation and plenty of food. I also loved the complimentary chips and salsa. Especially the green salsa. Not a fancy place but great value for the money. Service was friendly and prompt. read more

I placed an order for delivery. The delivery took an hour and 20 minutes! The order was incomplete for one of the order was pechuga rellena was missing the rice and beans, also they forgot the drinks which they charged me and told me that they were closing and there was nothing they can do aside of giving me credit when I make next order, she told me they will take 4 dollars off which i decline because i will never call to make a delivery ever again!!! Read good things on Nextdoor Asbury so we decided to check it out. There were a couple of families having dinner when we arrived, and the place filled up while we were there. Our server brought tortilla chips, a green sauce and delicious, fresh-made salsa with lots of cilantro. Very nice! We ordered the chicken fajitas to share and they came out sizzling and fragrant along with beans, rice, avacado, and a small salad of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber, and of course, warm tortillas. They were delicious! And enough that we brought home leftovers! We finished with a slice of flan, also delicious. A little thicker than I've had in the past, but very good. The staff was very nice, attentive. All-in-all, a good dinner. We will definitely return. read more

This place is awesome Mexican food. Definitely a neighborhood gem. It was recommended to us by someone who lives in the area. Small restaurant that has a dozen or so tables. Looks like nothing from the outside at all. Food isn't pre-made, it is cooked to order so be patient as it is worth the wait. They start you off with complimentary chips, homemade salsa and salsa verde. We ordered the Garibaldi nachos with chicken, steak and Mexican sausage. Wow the flavors were amazingly delicious. Pork taco were so fresh and perfectly seasoned. The people next to us had a chimichanga and burritos and they said they were great. The guacamole was fresh and homemade. The server was so nice and attentive. They give you generous portions. Two people to eat here and take leftovers, plus soda came to $22. So if you like Mexican food, don't care the place isn't fancy and off the beaten track of the more upscale places everyone eats at, stroll on over here for some great food. read more

I decided to try this place because it was recommended to me. The place is small and only 1 person waiting you. The prices for the menu are reasonable. The wait for your food also takes awhile. At least they give some nachos with sauce to munch on while you wait. I ordered the nachos con todo with chicken and Mexican sausage. Although the picture may look tasty but it was bland. The chicken had no seasoning and Mexican sausage was burnt to. Crisp. My gir had the Mexican soup called pozole that was very tasty, has a good spice kick to it. I would recommend getting that. To drink I had an horchata, it a drink made from rice which tasted pretty good. That's what gave this place an extra star otherwise this would be a 2 star rating. read more

If you want to get away from the pretentious overpriced food of the Main area of Asbury Park and eat some authentic Mexican food, this is the place. You can get any taco you want, including goat, tongue and tripe for two bucks. You get free chips and spicy dip. Actually spicy, not Americanized flavorless garbage. A steak sandwich for six. The food is delicious and authentic. The mole was bitter, and had complexity. The chicken was not processed, you can tell they butcher their own bird. You'll leave full and happy for little money. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't afraid of ethnic people. Their English is limited. When you're in there, you feel like you're in Mexico. I can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews considering it's proximity to the main area of town, the price, and the quality of the food. read more

This was the most delicious Mexican food I have ever eaten anywhere even in Mexico! The food was supremely fresh and delicious, the tortillas hand made (wow!! Yummm...best I've had anywhere!!!). We ordered tacos and a beef vegetable soup : absolutely delicious, everything!! The tortillas and sauces incredibly flavorful fresh and homemade. The service was warm and kind. Great customer service from the girls on the phone and GREAT FOOD! delivery was about an hour and a half. We were told it was going to be an hour but we're very close so it was a bit of a wait..they do let you know in advance of delivery wait time which is nice! I've been going here since the day they opened and have always considered it a decent local Mexican option, but they are really starting to suck. The last three times I've visited (2 takeout, 1 dine-in), I have had to wait nearly 30 minutes each time to get a sandwich or a handful of tacos. They must be chronically understaffed in the kitchen and I can no longer justify going to this place or recommend it to anyone else. To top it all off the wait staff speaks almost no english and makes zero effort to communicate to you about anything or apologize for the delay. Compare that to my experience at another Mexican place in Belmar today - in the 10 minutes I waited, the waitress (whose english was just as bad as anyone at Plaza Garibaldi) checked in with me twice to ask me if I wanted any extra salsa, or a drink or anything, and then to tell me about their daily specials. I've also noticed that they weirdly overcharge you for certain things. So for example there's a sandwich that's 8 bucks on the menu.. you'd think it'd be like 8 bucks and change with tax...but for some reason it might come out to 9 bucks even or something. I never cared enough to argue but definitely seems off. There are plenty of other options in Asbury and Bradley that puts out food that's just as good if not better. Avoid this place. read more

We called for delivery and were told 40-50 min. After waiting an hour and a half, we received the wrong order. When we called to explain the situation we were informed that we would have to wait another hour for our correct order. They would not rush our order, simply offered to return our money. We will see if that actually happens. We have had their food before, it's definitely not good enough to deal w this nonsense, not even close to good enough. read more
