The Plaza Inn, unfortunately there aren't many breakfast choices in or near Ontario.... I'll start with their breakfast, they say you can tell a good diner by the coffee..... Well the coffee at the plaza is like warm hot water with a splash of coffee, it's terrible.... Hash brown usually greasy, and of you order scrambled eggs you'll get a omelette what??? I've had good breakfasts here, but dinners...I won't be back. Had to ask for silverware and the rolls that go with the dinner. The salad ingredients looked old, the clam chowder was terribly thick, gravy on meat and potatoes looked set ( the way it looks if let in the pan after 2-3 hours)...yuk!! read more

This is your standard diner, lots of stick-to-your-ribs food prepared hot and quick--good value for the money. Nothing here really stands out, just your typical diner fare, but it's a place to have a nice sit-down meal in a town that no longer has a Denny's or an equivalent place. read more

I have been here a few times for breakfast, and it has not disappointed. I decided to try brunch and it was quite the opposite. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was soggy, meat texture was bland and tough. The only good thing were the waffle fries. The chicken and waffles were not very appealing. The chicken was nothing special just your typical frozen chicken tenders with no real flavor. The hash browns were shredded but bland. The waffles were actually good, fluffy and tasted homemade. Lastly the turkey sandwich was a win. The turkey is thinly sliced on a toasted bun, it is juicy and flavorful. The service is always great. Will be visiting again in the future! read more

Another big win for this small, locally owned American eatery. This morning I filled up on a Bacon Onion Mushroom Omelet (topped with swiss cheese, side of hash browns, $9.95) with a side of gravy ($1.25) and a piece of their delicious, homemade Apple Cinnamon Toast. The hash browns were fried to crispiness perfection! I was impressed by the amount of bacon that was stuffed into the omelet! And it was the good kind, damn real bacon, not fried up pieces of fat. Everything tasted even better smothered with their creamy, flavorful bacon gravy. Too much bacon? Never! Apple Cinnamon Toast is a MUST TRY. You get one ginormous piece generously stuffed with apple bits and cinnamon-sugar swirl, you're doing yourself a dishonor if you pass it up. My husband's bellied up to his go-to, the Golden French Toast ($6.25). You're reading that right. For this low cost you get two huge pieces of their homemade, day-old white bread grilled to absolute magnificence dusted with powdered sugar and served with homemade, hot syrup and whipped buttah. Driven by here many times I though I'd come in and check it out the plaza. Brittany was my waitress. She did a great job very attentive. Had eggs Benedict ordered some extra lemons to go with the sauce cause it's usually lacking. Those places was really good. Everything was good. Hashbrowns were crisp on the outside and moist on the inside with the Benedict was creamy and luscious. After I noticed they had a senior eggs. Benedict wasn't on it. Stopped here on our way back home from Boise, Idaho to Portland, OR. It was a great find! The food is good and it's obviously the town favorite. Every grandpa in town was there with his wife. My honey got the chicken fried chicken and said it was great! I got the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was soooo creamy and flavorful. We sadly missed the biscuits for biscuits and gravy. They only make a small amount every day. The biscuits must be amazing since we missed them barely 10 am! We did manage to snag a cinnamon roll. It was so good and so buttery. Go here if you want canned chili or Kraft macaroni for $10. Terribly overpriced and low quality food. Sad because I remember going to Plaza Inn when I was little and I don't recall it being this disappointing. Also, the kitchen took forever. I get it if it's due to low staffing but having to wait 30 minutes for canned or boxed food is not it. I been in this joint a few times for pie. They never missed, damn fine pie everytime! Stopped in for lunch. Had the fish and chips. They brought me some weak ass breaded mess that resembled fish but I couldn't eat it. The breading was not done, the fish texture was much like rubber and watery. The server was slow but pleasant. He offered replacement frozen shrimp or something else. I took a pass on anything else they bought frozen from some vendor and heated up. I'd go back for the pie. Delicious home cooking in an eclectic environment. I recommend pie for breakfast! I had the BLT and Clam Chowder. The bread was so fresh I would not be surprised if they were baking it fresh daily. The diner is an older restaurant but our waitress was so sweet. Everything we had was fresh! I ordered one slice of French toast, a scrambled egg and bacon. Not a lot to see outside. Just your typical facade. Inside is like every diner from back in the day clean and plain. Cool Ontario Historical Pics on the wall. They were having an off day as service was a bit off. Water service was slow. We sat looking at menus for about 10 minutes before we were given water. As busy as they were and as off as it was. Absolutely wonderful. My boyfriend and I go every time we are in town for breakfast. Great food and amazing service. The owner is consistently out on the floor taking orders, bussing tables, and taking care of customers. You don't see many places where the owner takes that much pride in their business anymore.
