The worst Mexican food ever!!! They use potatoes and carrots in all beef products as a filler. It's a terrible thing to bite down into a taco and find potatoes and carrots. And not just in tacos. They were in the Tamales, chili relleno, Burritos , etc. I felt like I was having beef stew instead of Mexican food. I brought this to the attention of the manager who refunded my dinner. I'll never eat there again! So much for authentic Mexican food. Next time I'll definitely stick to Mi Pueblo Mexican Restaurant instead. read more

Mi Pueblo is MUCH better!! We 5 were crowded into a booth next to a noisy party of 25. Our guacamole could not be made at the table as featured. We waited forever for dishes. The margarita ordered without salt was served with salt. The promised "rare" beef quesadilla was more than well done. We won't return. read more

I don't even want to give this place 1 star. It was horrible from the moment we arrived! The only thing nice was the decor. The service was slow, the salsa tasted like it was out of a jar and old, the offered to make guacamole table side for $6.25 plus tip,- the refried beans tasted like they were made with ketchup and the shredded beef enchiladas were made with peppers and onions. The peppers and onions in the food is not disclosed on the menu and when I told them we could not eat it due to allergies- the server, Miguel, offered us something else but said all of their good was made with peppers and onions. When we declined, they did not comp the meal- they gave us 50% off on 1 of the 2 entrees we ordered, even though we didn't eat it. So we paid $30 for food that did not get eaten and left hungry. Worst takeout experience I have ever had! First of all, the order took 45 min longer than promised and forced me to wait inside a restaurant that was packed at way over 25% capacity. There were people shoulder to shoulder at the bar and all the tables were full. I thought that was against the rules due to COVID-19. I finally got my order 45 min later and realized one of the orders of enchiladas was missing. I had to go back in yet again to an overcrowded restaurant to complain about this. At this point I asked if they would just give me a refund and they said no and to take it up with the platform I ordered from online. So I waited and they went back into the kitchen and brought out more food and handed it to me. I thought everything was fine until I got home and found out that one of the two orders of chicken enchiladas was in fact pork and there was no guacamole on the side as was supposed to come with the meals. At this point my food was so cold it was inedible. I am very disappointed that they are not following the guidelines for restaurants reopening. read more

Was there with 2 others they received their food mine never came out waiter never checked the table until the others were almost done. 1 star because the food is OK. This is now the 3rd time in a row they messed up my meal. Charged $5 for chips and salsa, and there was no salsa in my bag. Last time, when I ordered a cheese quesadilla, they served me a quesadilla with only onions on it, no cheese. The time before they served that same order with chicken in it. Can't get it together. On top of all of this, they promised a free meal the next time and when I requested it, gave me a hard time until I finally said I would pay. I will never order from this place again. read more

I've eaten here several times with family over the past year and we have always enjoyed the food. The menu is broad and comprehensive, and the tequila choices are quite good. My favorites are the fajita Vallarta, and tres amigos. The happy hour small house margarita is a great deal, very tasty and good sized. My only criticism is that sometimes the steak is a little tough. The chorizo is great, as is the table-prepared guacamole. Bad service from front, told friends there was no reservation, made for 13 people, hostess had it right behind her on the wall. Told us there was no 10% discount for seniors as stated in their site, finally gave 10% off food but not drinks. Over priced, rude to customers and quite frankly do not give a damn. Last Sunday evening on Feb.17 2019 at 5:30 pm My wife and myself went to Plaza Mexico in Port Charlotte. Our server was Tatiana and my wife ordered a Chicken taco and chili Rellenos, I ordered Guadalajara Special. I shared some or my plate with my wife and didn't have any of hers. halfway through my meal, I didn't feel right about it so ended up with a to go box which is rare for me I usually eat my whole meal and don't have leftovers. last Night about 8:30 pm we weren't feeling well so my wife went to Bed. I stayed up a little while and began Vomiting and Diarrhea as I heard my wife in the bathroom as well as Puking up her guts. and diarrhea. I have eaten at this location before and never have gotten sick. I can promise you this I will never walk into one of their locations again. and reported them to the health dept for an Inspection as well as gave the health department my leftovers in the carton they gave to me. AWFUL, If I could give less than 1 star I would!. We ordered a to go order as a group at my work place. Everything was wrong and they even forgot someone's lunch entirely. When we went to pick up the order NO ONE spoke any English at all. They just handed us the receipt...didn't count the money or ask us if we needed change. Nothing. There were potatoes in random orders and my order which was the "Pollo Yucatan" which on their menu is described as "Grilled chicken breast served on a bed of rice. Topped with a vegetable medley which includes squash, zucchini, onions, green and yellow peppers. Served with guacamole salad and tortillas." The so called vegetable medley of onions and peppers was really a explosion of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. There was a few scarce pieces of zucchini but absolutely no onions or peppers or yellow squash anywhere. I had a weird looking smashed piece of extremely dry chicken buried under everything. I also asked for and paid for extra guacamole, all I was given was a small dollop. Needless to say, we will never be ordering from this "Mexican Restaurant" ever again. Plaza Mexico is a standby for us when we don't feel like making dinner. The prices are very reasonable, and the serving sizes are large. The quality of the food is more than adequate, but the flavors tend to be underwhelming. Like the trap a lot of Mexican restaurants fall into, most of the items on the menu taste exactly the same. It would be great if they put more attention into the seasoning and flavor of their entrees. It is worth saying that the quality of the ingredients blows away the local favorite, Mi Pueblo, which I am always astounded has such a following. I've gone there several times, as well, and never had a particularly good meal, and have had a few terrible ones. The salsa served with the meal is quite good. Very mild and not too oniony. We always go through at least one, usually two bowls. Staff tends to be fairly attentive, but this can be hit or miss. We've had good days, and we've had bad days. read more

We really enjoy this place. The food is always fresh and tastes great. Try some things from the new menu (like the menudo soup) and you'll love it. The margaritas can be pricy but it's worth it. Despite some negative reviews, my husband and I decided to try Plaza Mexico for the first time since he was in the mood for Mexican and it was close to home. I have to say we were pleased with the restaurant based on this visit. The booths were comfortable and everything looked very clean. The salsa was quite spicy, I will say, but the chips were warm and plentiful. My husband got the Enchiladas Supremas and I got three Chicken Tacos. He had more food than he could eat, and I was quite full after eating the three tacos. While a little bland, the tacos were full of shredded chicken (white meat or mostly white meat), and the taco shells and lettuce were crisp and fresh. Our server, Valentina, was attentive, offering drink refills when our glasses were half empty, and the food arrived quickly. We will definitely be back. read more

My husband & I visited Sat. night for the first time. We were quite impressed. Didn't wait to be seated and everyone was very friendly. The food was very good as well. A little pricey but very generous portions. I ordered the chimichanga w/ rice and my husband had the Grande which it really was. When our favorite La Esperanza closed we were devastated. Thankfully we have found this restaurant that is very similar. I would have given 5 stars but our server wasn't very attentive. He seemed distracted. Items like grilled quail with salsa verde, nopales, and other interesting items dot the menu, with the usual enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, salads, taquitos, chimichangas, & more. Picked up a $94 to go order with tip. Had to get special permission for extra salsa for 6 meals. Then got home, realized shorted 2 dinners, $30 worth of food. When I returned to restaurant asking for discount on bill due to their mistake management offered $10, I wanted $20 off. They relented, giving me $20 off but when I returned home they receipt said $10 off. They screwed up the order, failed to give me the promised discount for ruining an expensive, now cold & soggy meal due to family waiting to eat while I go get shorted meals. At first glance when you walk in the door it seems like a great place...unfortunately it was only the interior. The first problem was my soda...it was sugarless which meant the bag ran out in the back, no problem just asked politely for a new one. Well I never got one. The second problem I had was when we put our order in, it was almost immediately after the waitress walked away our food came out. Literally within 1 minute. While we were still working on chips trying to talk. On top of that my meal wasn't even correct and they didn't even notice...pretty noticeable difference between rice and salad...wait salad? Exactly. And the food we both got was terrible. Tasted like nothing. The chicken was sopping wet with water retention, the rice was so dry it was obvious it was sitting out. And the mohito that we paid $8 for was so sour it tasted terrible. Couldn't even stomach it.
