Stained ripped carpet with unfinished remodeling under the bedroom sink
    Nan T.

The view really is pleasant. It's gorgeous, actually. But everything else about my experience here was far from pleasant. Rough gravel parking lot(s), one of which is across the street. A nightmare to drag your luggage across. Doors to the building remain wide open all day and night. No elevators, stairs required to get around even if you're on the first floor. Paper thin walls so you can hear EVERYTHING, especially if you're near the stairs. My room had no phone, no peephole, no deadbolt, the door didn't close automatically and there was no weather strip at the bottom so the hallway light shines into the room, stained, ripped carpets, unfinished remodeling, cheap uncomfortable pillows, faulty TV remote that didn't work, clogged sink drain, etc. The "beach towels" are teeny tiny and they don't offer beach chair rentals despite seeing a group of them stashed away by the side entrance. The foot and body shower outside by the beach don't work. These are a lot of small things that add up when you're paying this much per night and it makes it hard to justify staying there despite the gorgeous view and direct beach access. In my opinion, you truly do not get what you pay for.

The room was very clean and they have the best pillows. Get an ocean view room if you can, it's beautiful. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good. The waitress was very attentive. Over all, a relaxing stay.

Well this was my first time staying at the Pleasant View Inn. We were excited to stay on the beach for a few days without having to venture off for food and lodging. Upon check-in we were informed that their kitchen would be closed for two days (Sept 7th and 8th) for floor renovations. This place has the potential of being really nice. It has beautiful lighting and seating out back, oceanside. I was not impressed with the state of the room or the hallways leading to and from our room. I will let some of the photos I took speak for themselves. I had a higher expectation for what I paid to stay here than what I actually experienced. The room just wasn't that clean/well-maintained.

The room was small but we were only there to sleep so no complaints there. I am grateful I brought a sleep mask since light pours in through the blinds. It was nice to leave the windows open all day when we were out - the room never got stuffy at all and it was pleasant to have beachy fresh air. We slept with the air conditioner which worked fine. I liked that the parking lot was towards the beach since it was easy to stash my beach chairs coming to and from the beach without lugging them more than a few steps. It was also super nice to just run up to the room to use the bathroom vs the port-o-potties that are available in the parking lot. The hot water in the room gets VERY hot and in our room specifically (208), the dial on the shower that pointed to hot and cold was reversed. So we found that we had to point it to C for scorching hot and H for more tolerable cooler temped water. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely stay here again.

At over $615 per night, we expected a much better experience\. When we arrived, the toilet in our room was broken\. It took approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to repair, during which time we couldn't use the bathroom or shower before going out to dinner\. The bathtub also wasn't draining properly until we finally figured out a way to get it to drain ourselves\. In addition, the refrigerator wasn't cold on the first day\. We had actually called ahead to ask them to make sure it was turned on because we experienced the same issue during a previous stay\. The next day, we returned to the room to put our baby down for a nap and found contractors installing new carpet directly outside our door\. The constant hammering and nailing made it impossible for our baby to sleep\. We asked if the work could pause for just an hour, but we were told no\. The only solution offered was to move us to a much smaller room where the only bathroom was located inside the children's sleeping area, which wasn't a practical option for our family\. The staff offered us a bottle of wine as compensation, we declined\. We then asked if there was another way to make the situation right, such as adjusting our room rate, but the manager said no\. We've always enjoyed staying at The Whaler's Inn, which makes this experience particularly frustrating\. Maintenance issues can happen, but multiple room problems, disruptive construction during the day without accommodation, and the lack of a meaningful resolution left us feeling that the value did not match the price we paid\. We hope management will take this feedback seriously and improve the guest experience\.we will not be coming back . I do not recommend - the staff were SO RUDE

It's never easy taking over a B&B, and the family that now runs this place seems very nice, and hospitable. That said, at $450 or more per night, execution is requisite for a high Yelp rating. We stayed here four 4-days and 3-nights in the Rosa room. Each room here is somewhat unique (I think there are only 8 rooms here), therefor experiences may be somewhat idiosyncratic to the specific room. Positives: + Hospitable welcome, alerted us by phone when the rooms was ready + Welcome gift (nice touch) + Large room + Gas fireplace which worked well + Comfortable king bed + Pleasant grounds + Separate entrance for this room + Convenient location + Excellent homemade breakfast with seating times to prevent crowding Negatives: - Road noise (on a very busy road, traffic including trucks 100 feet away) - Musty smelling, we couldn't keep windows open at night due to road noise - No sugar, etc. in room for coffee - Bathroom outlets not working - Bathroom door difficult to close - Blinds were broken on one side, and just left standing in the corner of the room, these should have been removed if they could not be repaired - Large piece of plastic left on the window sill, looked dirty there, not well cleaned - Uncomfortable sleep sofa couch for sitting and small TV - Microwave not working (actually it was after we figured out nobody plugged it in) - Outside light over door is on automatic timers, too bright for the light filtering shade, so the room is lit up at night (we prefer a dark room for sleeping) - Rosa backs up to the kitchen, and we could hear a lot of banging and noise at 10pm as they were doing prep work for the next morning The negatives balance out the positives for a 3-star stay. Bottom line, we'd be unlikely to return, especially to that room.
