Nice people but incompetent. We paid about $1000 for a problem that was never fixed. We still have a cold shower. They came three separate times. First visit - replaced cartridge. $250 for a cold shower. Second visit, general servicing, semi warm shower. They mentioned if we replace the check valve, we should have immediate hot water. 3rd visit, replace check valve. Semi warm water. I called and talked to the Manager who validated the work performed. Excellent plumbing company. We chose Plotke out of about 7 other bids to work on our 100 year old home that needed significant repairs. Their pricing was competitive and they were able to schedule us in quickly . They are extremely honest and knowledgeable and did not try to upsell any services. Other companies told us we needed to redo our incoming copper water lines, Plotke told us and proved otherwise and warned about other companies trying to upsell. As with any old home, they found more wrong with our home's plumbing than any of us initially knew. They showed us exactly what was wrong and explained why it needed to be fixed. They worked with us to complete these repairs too and still managed to keep the repair costs in line with the original bid. Along the way, they were generous and threw in a couple low cost upgrades which we felt was extremely generous. Plotke redid all of our drain lines, installed a washer and dryer hookup ( we had to line dry clothes before), installed a seismic gas shut off valve, removed an ancient utility sink and associated plumbing, installed an in line water filter, and demolished our 30+ year old tank water heater and switched it for a tankless heater. They were extremely professional and courteous through the duration of their work. All work was permitted, and all work passed inspection. The plumber and helper that performed the work did an awesome job. We could absolutely tell they took pride in their work. They were careful with our belongings and cleaned up after themselves thoughrouly. They had to do some wall demolition to reinstall drain lines, all of their wall cuts were neat and purposeful. They took care to only remove the drywall that was actually needed which made the drywall repair easy. Overall, I could not recommend this company enough. I have a complicated mid century home and my plumber Jonathan was amazing at repairing the old pipes and replacing the faucett to fit in the design. The work was done quickly and efficently and with great respect. I had a complicated medical situation at home with home health care nurses, and limited space but he was able to manage extremely well. I was awakened Monday morning by a knock on the door from the DWP who said the pipe connected to the water meter was leaking into the street and it was my responsibility to fix. I couldn't think of a better way to start the week. The problem didn't really seem that serious though.It was just a simple crack in a copper pipe that needed to be sealed. In fact, if I had the proper tools, I probably would have taken a stab at it myself. ... but I didn't. So I started calling every plumber with a 323 area code and the average price I was quoted was $250 and most of them weren't able to come out until the following day... which was my birthday, so that was pretty much out of the question. Plus, I was losing money to the DWP by the minute from the seepage. There was one company called Nautilus who refused to quote me over the phone and insisted on coming by to take a look and give me a free estimate. Well, they had great reviews on Yelp, so I let them. They quoted me $450 and claimed that all those other companies I spoke to would end up charging me the same amount once they actually saw the problem in person. I asked why and the guy said "Well... they'll have to shut the water off and then drain out all the water from the hole (which was a whole foot deep. LOL.), then dry off the pipe and then there's the charge for materials..." Pfff. Get real, pal. And they turned out to be full of shit, just as I expected. Keep reading. Despite some less than stellar reviews on here, I decided to call Plotke since they were only two blocks away from my house. Not only did Mario promise to fix the problem that day, but he told me since the problem was curbside, I could go to the office as I was supposed to and he would just send me a bill in the mail. And here's the reason for the 5-star review: Mario made a promise to me over the phone that the cost would not exceed $200. I agreed. He called me on Tuesday morning to tell me that it only took him an hour to seal the pipe and the price is going to come out to $125. He could have charged me $200, but he decided to be a mensch and cut me a break. And no, I didn't tell him it was my birthday. Again, Nautilus was going to charge me $325 more than Plotke! Even though I didn't get to meet Mario face-to-face, I can tell this is a good, honest company... a company I will definitely do business with the next time I'm hit by another plumbing fiasco. It took these guys five visits to fix a leak under my sink. On the 4th time they replaced a gasket. I asked them to replace the other one, too (double sink) as they had no reason to believe it was one sink rather than the other. They treated me like I was an idiot - THEY knew what they were doing. The sink still leaked and they had to come out the 5th time and do what I told them to do the 4th time. They were rude, and unprofessional and flat out bad plumbers. Find someone else. read more

What an AMAZING EXPERIENCE! I work for a non-profit youth shelter for inner city kids in MacArthur Park, called Casa Libre. Earlier this morning the toilets in all 3 of the first floor bathrooms began overflowing and "blackwater" began seeping back up through all of the shower and sink drains; Essentially, a worst case scenario. Unfortunately, as with most non-profits, our funding is usually limited and an emergency of this magnitude caught us completely off guard. In speaking with Mario (Manager), all was good in the beginning when he wanted our business. His workers came out to scope the job and gave us a proposal for $8,400 to repair our sewer line by doing a pipe burst. At the time of receiving the proposal, we were in escrow so the cost of the repair was really important for us so the seller could cover the cost. When the home closed and we were ready to scheduled work, Mario was hard to get a touch with for several weeks. When we did get in contact with him he started to have all types of excuses to when he can start work. The last conversation I had with him today (3/12) was that he was not able to do the work for $8,400 but instead, $21,000 because the job was much bigger than he thought. When questioning him on why he didn't discover this when giving us a proposal and asking what the difference in work is now compared to before, he didn't have an answer. Plotke put us in a position where we may have to spend more money because they never knew what they were talking about from the very beginning. What a waste of time. read more

good actual service in the sense that they fixed the problem i had -- roots in the drain. but VERY expensive. they quoted me $85 / hour. two guys show up. i didn't know it was $85 / hour PER PERSON, until after they had done the work and wrote up a bill. excuse me while i have a heart attack. okay i'm back. barely. well i guess they did manage to solve the problem, though some of that is sheer luck as you can't tell without scoping ie, how far down the problem is. they just whipped that 100' snake out, shoved it down the drain, turned it on and let it bore away. luckily whatever was blocking the drain has now been churned to smithereens... the work was actually good in that they solved the problem. so, happy there. but the price leaves something to be desired. plus i was charged EXTRA for the use of the snake. uhm, did the plumbers things they DIDN'T have to use a snake to clear a drain?... i have no problems with the actual job done. but the price was VERY high. if it was clear from the very beginning to me that it was $170 an hour, i would have definitely looked elsewhere. i would use them again but only if pricing was extremely clear and reasonable up front. read more

Great experience today with this company. I haven't written a review several years so it was that memorable. Tankless water heater was acting up and since I am paying for American Home Shield (AHS) Warranty, I called them first. The first plumber, Accent Plumbing, sent a guy that had no clue about tankless water heaters. He tinkered for a few minutes but couldn't figure anything out. Next was Bear Plumbing. Their plumber said he was very experienced with this brand and after checking it out, was very sure about the diagnosis. (1) there was a missing screen which meant deposits were getting through (2) the deposits had caused so much damage that the water heater needed to be replaced. Total cost - $2,800. Because of his statement that there was a missing screen, AHS denied the claim. I decided to bring in my own plumber and Plotke came this morning. Within a few minutes, the plumber was pretty sure he had it solved. It was not a case of a missing screen - in fact he showed me that the screen was indeed still where it was supposed to be (several inches inside the pipe not that visible to average person) and there was no damage to the water heater. Instead, it was a water flow issue that was causing the water heater to stop running. He made some adjustments and tested it out. Working better than ever. Total cost - $99. This is an honest, knowledgeable group so give them your business. I almost got taken for $3,000 but was saved at the last minute. Thanks Plotke! read more

If you want to spend your days waiting around for guys who don't show up then you've come to the right place. I hired these guys to fix a couple of leaky faucets and replace the cracked and corroded waste lines in the crawl space under my house. The job took a week longer than they said it would and there were at least three days when I took time off from work and they never showed up. When they told me they were finally finished I made the mistake of paying them. It didn't occur to me that I needed to crawl under the house to check their work, but when I realized they'd failed to fix one of the faucets I decided to climb into the crawl space and take a look. I discovered that a lot of corroded waste pipes had not been replaced. I called and spoke to Mario and he said he would come by but of course he never showed up. About a month has passed. 16 years ago when I moved into The Chicken Coop my water pressure was so amazing; you could shower, do laundry, and run the dish washer all at the same time and nothing would faze it. Through the years, the pressure has slowly decreased and has gotten to the point where "you could barely wash your hair." I have had various handymen and a few plumbers try to work on it with no success. It's been very frustrating, believe me. So this week I called in a real plumber again and crossed my fingers... Guess what? My water pressure is screaming again! Yes, I showered while the dishwasher and laundry were being done just to test it! YeeHaw, success! OMG...this is the worse plumbing company ever. Find another company. They send out apprentices that don't know what they are doing. They waste hours to run up the bill. They don't fix the problem...find a plumber that can actually fix the problem instead of charging you for not fixing the problem. Find a REAL PROFESSIONAL plumbing company. What kind of Bozos, rip off artist are these. I spoke to owner, Len, who was of no help whatsoever. Bill was finally e-mailed to me. They wanted $420 plus $42.30 for the cartridge they replaced and told me they had put in a new valve. Then they couldn't screw two screws in. This great company has been servicing my residence for several years, I have always been impressed with the courteous people on the phone and the technicians that have performed the repairs and installations. I had a water heater installed a few years ago, very well done and no problems since. Also they repaired a gas leak that the Gas Company said was not their issue but a plumbing issue. Done! Just recently (today and 2 weeks ago) I needed them to fix a leak and then a stoppage issue. Xavier is great to deal with but anyone you 'get' to coordinate is excellent. read more

I had called several plumbers for a problem with a Tankless Water heater and Plotke folks were really helpful. Turned out I live outside of their service area, but the gentleman helped me troubleshoot anyway. He would look up an error code for my particular unit while I ran some tests, and talked me through and gave me information for good 15 minutes. It really was too bad I wasn't able to go with them. Prior to calling them up, I had set up an appointment with a competitor who was quite sales oriented and slick. After speaking with Plotke, and I decide to go with my instinct and cancel the appointment with the first company that felt too pushy. I made a new appointment with another plumbing company who is in my area and was recommended by Plotke. read more

How disappointing they've become. I've used Plotke for over 10 years for my tankless water heater and any other repairs we needed. I've even recommended them to members of my family and friends. They were always very conscientious, prompt and trustworthy. Something changed and now are not what they were. It may be they got too big or maybe that I'm just not enough business to them to matter. I called them in September to repair a leak in my water heater. They'd been to my house before and knew where to go, I didn't need to wait for them. The sent the same plumber who'd been on my account for years. When I got home I couldn't tell if they'd been there or not. I figured they'd call at some point but never did. I finally called them in early October to ask what they were doing. They said they'd had to order a part and just forgot to call me. They came out later that week, not to fix the leak but to replace something else. The plumber was there for around 20 minutes. I pointed out the leak and he said he'd have to order a part. I thought I'd see or hear from him again. I did get billed a few weeks later for the part and 2 hours of labor but no call or followup. Today I called and talked to Lynn, one of the owners. I told him I was disappointed in the company and would be dropping him as a plumber. He promised to look into it and call back which he did. He told me the plumber knew he needed a part but did not order it, instead he suggested I replace my 10 year old water heater instead of replacing a couple of dollars worth of seals. Seems to make sense to him, I spend $1500 for a new water heater plus labor. It made absolutely no sense to me, the water heater works well enough. It also makes no sense that I'd already paid him nearly $200 for the 25 minutes of labor his plumber did. Instead it seems shameful and usurious. They took for granted that I would stay a loyal customer and would stay quiet about poor customer service, a bad idea in this era. I'd watch everything they do for you, don't let them over bill you and keep on their tail if you use them. read more

Plotke is one of the best Plumbers in LA. We have less expensive plumbers that we use for outdoor plumbing but Plotke is our go-to for indoor issues because their plumbers are CLEAN and their equipment and tools are CLEAN. They don't drag someone else's filth into your home. We recently had a leak where they had to cut into the wall for the repair. We were devastated and super bummed when we heard the words "we're going to have to cut into the wall." They first used a camera to identify the location and the plumber, Ed (our favorite from Plotke), measured to within a half an inch of the location of the leak. He cut into the wall like a surgeon and carefully preserved the square that he removed so that our patching/drywall repair could be super easy and less invasive. He didn't cut into more of the wall than he needed to and was very conservative and cautious. He cleaned up the dust and drywall droppings and most importantly, the leak is GONE.
