They finally opened up! This is one of our favorite spots for no rushed dining with great food and BYOB. We ventured out with another couple for some outdoor dining. We split an "enlarged" (for 4) charcuterie/cheese plate that endangered filling some of us up. Entrees ($22 - $32 including sides) were steak frites, duck confit, lamb chops, and coq au vin. All were superb and our companions on their first visit raved. Damages with tip for 4 was only $180. Worth every dollar. The only disappointment was that there were only 2 other tables taken that night (on a Saturday!) although some takeout business. So go and help support a local restaurant that deserves to be around. Before going to Plouf Plouf, I looked at the Yelp reviews. All but one (dated several years ago were 4-5*. But one, dated 2 months ago, was horrible. I wondered whether the restaurant had deteriorated over time but decided to go anyway. It has NOT deteriorated. The food was excellent cooked in the French way to perfection. Four of us all were pleased with our Lobster Bisque and Onion Soup, followed by wonderfully grilled lamb chops, duck and Pernot mussels. A grand evening. Thanks to the chef and his super efficient and effective wife. We will return. read more

Everything we got was acceptable but not especially good. If the prices were halved then I might consider recommending it. But you're currently paying for a premium product and receiving modestly elevated food truck food... just not worth it at all. read more

So this place has been on my list for quite some time. I'm so glad we finally got here tonight! The weather was perfect for some French onion soup. We both enjoyed steak frites for dinner. It was so good!! It's a small place - make a reservation! Unfortunately for me they are open seasonally. Plouf Plouf, you've done it again! Today I tried the lobster fries for lunch, and they were absolutely divine. Think New England-inspired poutine: crisp, tender fries served with a lobster bisque sauce, topped with hearty chunks of the freshest lobster. The amount of the bisque sauce was just right- the fries stayed crisp. Seriously, folks, it doesn't get any better or more decadent than that. Terrific, hidden gem of a restaurant. The most authentic French food I've had in New England by a long stretch, and I'm French. Blows every other French restaurant out of the water in terms of the quality of the produce, and the sheer variety of dishes, including many French staples that can be hard to find outside of France. Tiverton is incredibly fortunate to have a chef with the experience and craftsmanship of Mario. Bear in mind it's BYOB, so make sure you bring a good bottle of wine (or two). There's a liquor store next door but their wine selection is pretty poor so if you want to drink well you should make sure you purchase your wine elsewhere. Everything on the menu--which is constantly evolving jn accordance with the seasons--is delicious but I highly recommend the charcuterie plate, the duck confit, and the desserts. read more

Plouf Plouf is small and special. It has a pretty extensive, authentic menu for a place its size. We had a great lunch out on the porch - moules pernod and the scallop roll were standouts. The salmon over ratatouille was also delicious. The cheese plate had at least 6 different types of cheese, all wonderful. Go! read more

I have no idea how Plouf Plouf could have a negative review. I consider myself a lover of good food and I am obsessed with food trucks. So, the duck burger. What can I say? It's out of this world! Topped with sauteed mushrooms, bacon, and demi... it's just orgasmic. Upgrade the fries with truffle oil and parmesan cheese. You won't regret it! Whenever I find myself on the east side during lunch, I always make a point of swinging by George St. to eat that burger. It's so hard to try other things, but everything I have tried has not disappointed. Give it a shot! read more

We are so incredibly lucky to have this restaurant in Tiverton, RI. It can be hard to find delicious authentic French bistro food in large cities, let alone a small Rhode Island town. The chef, Mario, was formerly the executive chef at Fauchon-- earning them their third Michelin star under his leadership. The fact that Mario and his wife have made high-quality French food accessible is really special. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is casual, and the alcohol is BYOB (which is amazing). My husband and I come to Plouf Plouf on average every week and every item we have tried on the ever-changing menu has been delicious. Finally got to this new restaurant addition to Tiverton after wanting to get there for a few months. My companions and I showed up at 7 pm on a Saturday and were able to be seated right away on the patio. It took a little while for someone to take our order, and while one of our waitresses was great the other seemed less than enthusiastic. We ordered the Plouf salad which was delicious and large enough either for an entree or to share with more than one person as an appetizer. Then for entrees two of us got moules mariniere and one of us got moules Pernod. Both were delicious and the French fries that came with them were wonderful. Portions were generous all around. Would recommend paying Plouf a visit; but for those who go, would remind them it is BYOB. read more

So unfortunately I have to revise my first impression downwards. On my second trip to Plouf Plouf, I ordered the Kobe beef burger special and my companion ordered the lobster brioche. Word on the lobster was that it was solid, but not worth the price. It was quite saucy, which made the bread turn soggy, and the fries were unsalted (mine were salted, so this appeared to be an inconsistency issue). The real disappointment was my burger, however. It was undercooked (I like burgers medium-rare, so I don't tend to be squeamish about this), but also "mushy" on the inside. From what I could tell from watching them prepare my burger, they pre-cook them and then grill them quickly when ordered. Makes sense for a truck. However, this meant that the inside of the burger was bright pink but coagulated into a mushy texture. The outside, and the bread, was slightly burnt. The toppings on the burger--mushrooms, goat cheese, and bacon--were quite tasty, and initially hid the flaws in the burger itself. But eventually I had to remove the undercooked inside of the burger. All in all, not a satisfying meal. Adding that to the price, I'm done with Plouf Plouf. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The menu is full of delightful options. And in fairness, I've only eaten here once. But I had a pulled pork sandwich and truffle fries, and neither was particularly good. The pulled pork was served on ciabatta with peppers. The peppers were a nice addition, but the sauce was very mild so it didn't add much flavor. What it did add was moisture, which was detrimental to the already moist pork, making the sandwich soggy and messy. The flavor wasn't bad, but it was rather bland, and there was an excessive amount of fat on the pork. The sandwich was substantial - a larger portion than necessary. But even in light of its size, $14 seems steep. The truffle fries were a bit heavy on the truffle oil and the parmesan, and they weren't nearly crispy enough. It seems that Plouf Plouf understands concept but fails at execution. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Duck Confit from a food truck? So friggin amazing! I came across this truck on Thayer Street and thought it was pricey. But, with the promise of "Fresh, Organic Awesomeness" free of anibiotics, nitrates, preservatives, GMOs, HFCS...wow. I like that. So, I had the Duck Confit with fritters (fries) for $14. It came out in a very Eco friendly container smelling fantastic. It was the best duck I have ever had and was as good as any French dish that you would pay $30 for in a fancy French restaurant. I will certainly return and probably get something with au jus again. :) After a a few visits to Plouf Plouf...I really like them, but not love. Mario is a greay chef. He make good fench food...but really he is a 5 star pastry chef. You NEED to have dessert. I was a JWU student and have had many different french pastries and these are the best! Food truck wowzers! I was actually strolling down to George and Thayer looking for Mama Kim's (who wasn't there that day) and decided on this truck! I was immediately captured by the items on the menu which all seemed delicious! Truffle mac and cheese, duck burgers, escargot and a pork belly sandwich! Well guess what... the creature of habit that I am, I have ordered the pork belly sandwich every time I've come by (3 times in the past 3 weeks!). This sandwich is easy to share (actually not so easy as you'll want to consume it all but size wise it definitely is feasible!). They have fresh wild mushrooms sautéed inside with some sweet bell peppers grilled until it melts in your mouth. The pork belly itself is succulent, juicy and has a punch of flavor so large it will set you back 50 feet. The sandwich bread is equally as important that has just enough crisp to give a nice texture but not too hard to hurt your gums! They cook quickly so you won't have to stand in the cold for long! I have seen them on George and Thayer every day for dinner after 5pm so far. I don't know what their official schedule is like but I friend them on Facebook and am able to find out where they are! Yes, I'm a food truck stalker!! There's plenty of parking around George and Thayer so just find a spot, park and get your food! read more

Staff was friendly and menu is nice. However the food was not very good at all and overpriced. We started out with the Plouf Salade and the chef's pate. The beets on the salad didn't taste fresh and the pate had little flavor and the presentation left a lot to be desired. For the main course we had the steak frites and canard confit. The sauce on the steak was nice but the steak was very under cooked and inconsistent throughout and was not a very good cut of meat. The confit duck leg was closer to a turkey leg that sat in the refrigerator for a week after thanksgiving and reheated. Tough and chewy. The fries that came with both dishes were soft and mushy. We ate very little of either main course as it was not very edible. As far as ambience goes there is little offered here unless you like eating in a parking lot with visible yard debris and a loud air conditioning unit running seated in uncomfortable metal chairs. It's byob and if you want to run over to the liquor store and grab a beverage you can pay the restaurant $8. We have been to France several times and eaten at many French restaurants there and in the United States and this doesn't even come close. Very disappointing. Save your $ and/or eat elsewhere. read more

I know this place is a rip-off. I know it! As a student, I really shouldn't be spending $16 on dinner...especially when that dinner comes with no service, seating, or even a free glass of water (the only thing that's complimentary is the 10-min wait in the freezing cold). But I can't help myself!! The salmon is the best dang salmon ever. It's super herby and the bed of butternut squash it's served on top off is tres flavorful. I try my best to justify my purchase with the fact that the salmon is sustainably sourced. Also amazing: the truffle fries. I can never finish them, but they're DELICIOUS. I've also tried the duck burger, which was OK but too fatty-tasting for my palate. Just apologize to your wallet and go to plouf plouf. It's a ridiculous choice given the fact that you can get a meal for half the price anywhere on Thayer, but true love is just illogical I guess!! read more

Oh my. I am speechless. My boyfriend had been jonesing for French food, and Rue was just so awful on so many levels... But today we had the best French food in Providence! For everyone who's complained about the cost of the food, please. You get first rate ingredients without the stuffy fake ambiance of a place like Chez something-or-other (I'm looking at you, Chez Pascal). It's expensive for a reason. The food is just really, really, really good. Our menu: Escargot (came with a beautiful puff pastry shell, with a heavenly garlicky pesto), duck burger (I might be tempted to say the fries were the best part of this, but really the burger is the best part of it--not ground duck parts but actual recognizable duck parts molded into a patty with spices like celery and fresh green peppercorns...oh my god), and because my boyfriend lived in London for a few years, he got the shawarma--best shawarma I've ever had. Chick peas and cucumber were perfectly salted, and the dill curry yogurt sauce was bonkers good. We look forward to many many many more meals here. I suggest they park the truck in a parking lot and set up picnic tables, because we'd be there all the freaking time. read more

I consider myself something of a food-truck expert - after all, I've been eating hotdogs and soft pretzels from sketchy silver vans as long as I can remember. I've eaten just about everything you can buy out of a truck, but Plouf Plouf was a first for me - hands-down the most ambitious cuisine I've had from a mobile kitchen. I spotted the truck as I drove my moving van to my new place and was excited to set out to find them - but also a bit hesitant, as what are the odds that gourmet French could be done *well* by a food truck? It turns out I need not have worried: These guys are amazing! It was easy to figure out when they'd be in my 'hood from their twitter stream, and they must be on it while they're cooking because someone quickly replied when I tweeted that I was en-route. I tried the duck confit with frites - so delicious! The duck was cooked perfectly and had a great sauce - perfect for dipping the frites! As a bonus, it was even served with a small salad. So nice that they make sure I'm getting my veggies! It's a bit more expensive than your standard food truck, but nowhere near what you'd be paying for similar food in an actual restaurant. Restaurant grade French cuisine from a food truck might strike some as a foolhardy proposition. However, Plouf absolutely nails it. The duck burger was everything you could ask for. The frites are amazing (I have only had the "plain" ones not the truffle frites). My wife was floored by the salmon filet. I've lived in and around Providence most of my life and I'm just so happy with what the food scene has become. The idea that something like Plouf could even exist in Providence is wonderful to me. I adore French food, but I don't always want to get all gussied up and discuss wine with a sommelier, so having the option to get excellent French food in a styrofoam box is pretty appealing to me. And the food is excellent. My S.O. and I had the steak frites and the gnocci and loved them both. The steak was tender enough to cut with a plastic fork and the sauce was both generous and incredibly, delectably, indecently good. Especially the way it sluiced all over the frites and got all mixed up and yummy. I'm getting hungry again just thinking about it. The gnocci was generously sauced and the sauce was well seasoned, the gnocci were tender and fresh and didn't have that weird aftertaste that causes some gnocci to hang around for days in the form of halitosis. It was a very nicely balanced dish and somehow didn't feel too heavy, which is hard to do with gnocci. The Plouf Plouf truck will certainly be a permanent addition to my Providence lunch list! read more

This place is superb! The portions are perfect. Not too much, not too little. A bit pricey, but I truly feel you get what you pay for here. The food is excellent. There isn't a single dish I wouldn't recommend, and you can tell the owners take pride in the quality of their food. The menu changes from time to time which I also like, because it makes me excited to come back and try the new things they are serving. The food itself looks too pretty to eat and should be featured on the cover of Saveur magazine or Bon Appetit. Instagramers take note: this food is "gram-worthy". As a francophile who has lived and studied in France, I must say this food is authentic as it gets. I feel very fortunate to live near such a great restaurant. My only gripe is the seating. The restaurant itself feels small and cramped inside, so I tried eating outdoors (there is outdoor seating), which isn't much better because the seats are uncomfortable, the tables quite small, and I feel like I'm practically on top of the other patrons that are seated near me. It's a bit too close for comfort for me (perhaps that's the New Englander in me speaking, who likes ample personal space). Also, the view isn't all that great. Plouf Plouf is one of several businesses in a small plaza, so the only view you get is a parking lot. I would like to see Plouf Plouf move to a bigger venue to accommodate more patrons comfortably. But overall, I say this place is great, and I'd gladly eat here again. read more

Starting with the good. Food was decent. Now for the rest of the story....having our France trip canceled for our anniversary we booked here expecting a Parisian Ambience. Never told it was outside dining only on rickety wooden tables & barely safe chairs, never told it was BYOB either but luckily a liquor store was in the plaza. Tried to enjoy our picnic on a breezy night & no heater for the 5 tables but plenty of umbrellas! Bill without booze was $191.00 for 4. Not bad except for the $6 charge to borrow their corkscrew! WTH they were cheaper at the packy! Then the PhD waitress stated tips in cash were not only appreciated but preferred! Say what? Bill split w/ 2 cc & both stated $191! Can't make this crap up! Felt my anniversary dinner was ruined & would have preferred Evelyn's Clam Shack (best fried clams) & no $6 fee for corkscrew! Sinful! I'd skip passed this place! read more

This is another stop I made at the Rhode Island Seafood Fest, and I wish I had made this my first stop. I probably would have spent $100 and ordered everything off the menu because it sounded sooo good. Lobster gnocchi. Crab and lobster ravioli. Lobster frites and the seafood croquettes that I did end up ordering after much deliberation and evaluation of how much room I had left in my stomach before I had to start loosening the belt. For $13, what I received were two fried croquettes of about eggroll size topped with a creamy lobster sauce. It was good. You could really taste the freshness of the seafood inside, chopped into big, luscious chunks, and the croquettes were not greasy at all. But what I was missing was a little something else. Maybe even just a little salt. The lobster sauce tasted a little too mayonniasey for me and the seafood was just seafood. This might just be personal preference, so please don't let my review turn you away because I am definitely going back next time I see this truck to try those lobster fries. read more

Let me start off by saying Thank you. Thank you for opening something like this in my home town, though I no longer live locally it's nice to have a amazing place to stop in for a bite to eat. While family jokes I'm a foodsnob, I simply state I am a foodie that would rather pay more for fresh, local good ingredients and food rather than something cheep, fast, and mass produced. Plouf Plouf gave me that, I had a entirely unexpected meal for the middle of farm country. Something I would expect in Boston, and slightly jealous I can't have this more often. The prices were very reasonable for what was on the menu. Muscles were cooked to perfection. The hanger steak was delicious from the bite I sampled off a friends plate, sauce not overwhelming but accented it just right. And the fries, yup the fries I could make a meal out of on their won. Now, I did vouch for a special which was expensive. Filet with the perfect sauce and shaved truffles. But anyone who knows food knows truffles alone are expensive ($30+ a single truffle) And my dish felt like it had nearly two full truffles shaved over it. It was cooked perfectly, like I wish I was staying longer to have been able to go and have it again! Can't wait to visit family and stop on in here again! Had lunch at Plouf Plouf last week when it was parked in Kennedy Plaza. I arrived a little later into the lunch window -- about 1:30pm. I had the chicken taco special with frites. (Was treating myself to a few of my favorite things). The fries were shoestring and cooked lightly. The fluer de sel it was served with was a nice touch and the chef put only a light amount on. Nicely seasoned. ($2.75) Now let's talk about the tacos. The truck advertises as having rustic French cuisine -- and I ordered tacos. Not what you would expect. THEY WERE OUTSTANDING! The chicken was cooked perfectly, so that it was tasty and tender. The avacado sauce was so good, I would have liked to be able to eat it like soup. I also liked the touch of pea greens, rather than lettuce of any kind. The corn tortilla was lightly grilled. (two tacos = $8) The only negative was I did think it a bit pricey. 2 tacos for $8 feels like more than I would have paid at other trucks. I enjoyed my experience. Today for lunch I treated myself to Plouf Plouf again - I'm upping my rating to 4 stars because if I want a nice meal and don't have time to sit down at a restaurant, Plouf Plouf is the way to go. Going into ordering here, first timers need to appreciate that it will involve a long wait, much like at a restaurant (without the chair, bread, water/drinks). But the result is very excellent French food. I had the grilled salmon with butternut squash puree, rice pilaf, and sambuca-parmesan sauce. They should bottle that sauce and sell it - it was delicious! The micro-greens still feel like an afterthought but I did enjoy eating them all together (it was hard to incorporate them into a bit of the rest of the food). The food is better than anything on any other truck, and better than any other Down City Restaurant.
