Yes, the burger is great. But make sure you try the tomato oxtail soup! I often dislike tomato-y soups because they often have too much umami taste and it overwhelms me, but this soup was very clean, balanced, and had a deep flavor to it. I'm even inspired to try to make a similar soup at home! They have healthier options as well, such as chicken and veggie rice bowls with various sauces if you're in the mood for something lighter or a person in your party doesn't want to chow down on a huge burger. Service here is great and make sure you get a free cookie! They don't have a restroom, but because you're a 1-2 minute walk from the beach there is a public restroom very closeby. read more

They treated us like family here, making sure we were taken care of the whole time. First off, the owner is such a nice man! Our rear brake light was out and he came out and flagged us down before we left to let us know. That was just so thoughtful to me. Anyway my bf had a hankering for the pocket burger. I'd had the chicken bowl last time we were here, which pleasantly surprised me - the sauce was very thick and a little chunky :-). This time I had the Da Kine burger. I love burgers anyway, and have had quite a few, but it's rare that a burger makes me break out in a smile on first bite and make snarfing noises with every following bite. Sometimes a meal just makes your day, and dangit that did it for me! The garlic fries weren't very salty, which I think helped the fresh garlic bits do their flavor thing. Very delicious. It's a great place to eat after you finish kayaking!! Pocket burger- yummy!! Although the burger sounds simple, the ingredients meld so good together and I think their special sauce actually completes the burger! Definitely get this if it's your first time. Scorpion burrito- first bite was good but about halfway through the burrito, I grew tired of it. IMO there was too much rice. The owner is really friendly. I never have mentioned it was our first time and he asked how the burger was! He knew when I was about to leave and actually stopped to talk to me. Very sweet man. Width-wise, it's standard burger size, but it makes up for it in height. This burger is STACKED and could easily feed two people, but trust me, you won't want to share once you take a bite. My boyfriend can vouch for that. I finished that baby all by myself and regretted it later when food coma hit me like a big yellow school bus. I'm not mad about it. Service: great people and great ambiance. The people are genuine and attentive. Parking is a mess, so go when it's not too busy. I took my sons on a little biking trip on PCH. We stumbled upon this little gem. Fantastic! It really is a hole in the wall shack. After you place your order you have to step outside. The food is just greasy awesomeness. My son ordered the Tri tip burger at first without pocket sauce and Uncle (the man behind the counter who took our order) I don't know his name but he's like an uncle convinced my son to have the burger with the pocket sauce. My other son had a DaKine burger. I had a Sunset burger with onion rings. Oh my tastiness. The pocket sauce is the trick! Adds sweetness (not too sweet) the food is savory and just over all Yums. Good food! Good service! If you see a line don't be scared, it's a good thing and it's worth the wait. I had the salmon burger, one of the best i've had, not fishy, crunchy and full of flavor. Hubby got the tri-tip and the meat was just so tender and has its own original flavor. Free cookies and owner/cook is very friendly, even went to tables and talk to customers. Good business quality. Thank you Yelpers for helping us discover another amazing little place to eat while visiting Huntington Beach in California! We ordered the Pocket burger, the Phuket chicken, a milk shake, and some stuff I can't remember for the kids. In any case, everything was amazing, and the kids finished all their food. Maybe I'm sheltered, but the Pocket burger was seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had. I love my burgers with fried eggs, but wasn't sure about a burger with sweet Pocket sauce until I tried it. Delicious! The owner was super friendly, and came out to chat with us and the kids. He even hooked the kids up with free cookies and totally made their day. I really don't know what else to say, that hasn't been already said. If you're a local, or visiting the area, you should stop by the Pocket Burger Shack and try it out. Ok, one more thing...it is easy to miss as you drive along the Pacific Coast Highway, so keep your eyes peeled and be ready to pull over. It's street burgers with a Thai twist. Everything about my burger was so good, from the perfectly seared patty to the fried egg to the tangy, spicy speciality asian sauce. The only downside... well it's really an upside... The burger was huge. I passed out on the beach after with a mad food coma. So worth it. I have not eaten every burger the world has to offer (bucket list?), but the owner and gentlemen who greets each customer and creates this incredible food has given us lucky few something very special. Fried egg, avocado slices, two slices of bacon, lettuce, tomato, bun and patty.. with the marinade/sauce he uses??? It's an asian style sauce (Thai i believe). Its amazing!!!! Comes with thin fries. I tried a couple other items: two types of burritos and a steak quesadilla - I have no doubt that EVERYTHING you can order here is delicious. If you want a very filling meal (its a heavy burger), to support the small business, to be treated like a friend (the owner is so nice), and probably have the best burger you will ever eat, please go here. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for hole-in-the-wall mom and pop eateries and this place hit all the right buttons for me. This is a burger joint with a Thai twist. The menu is simple and perfectly balanced. The owner and chef is a bona fide O.G. who literally makes you feel like you stepped into his own house. I ordered an avocado on top of my tri tip bowl and got a full half of a fat avocado, perfectly ripe, not like those shriveled ball sacks they have a Trader Joes. WARNING: THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE!!!!! I just wanted to get that in there, since I didn't see it prominently displayed on some of the more recent reviews. Consider yourselves warned. Seriously, the tri tip quesadilla is made with a tortilla that is at least 18" around and probably over a pound of mozzarella. The owner told us he uses three large handfuls and maybe only 7 or 8 people have eaten the whole thing in one sitting. But wow is it good. Crispy tortilla, delicious sauces, LOTS of cheese. Yum! Just don't eat more than 1/4 of one... The pocket burger might be even better. My GF put it up there with the best burgers she has ever had. The sauce, flavors, textures are all spot on. The people there were so nice and welcoming...it's one of those establishments where you feel right at home and a part of the community. Given how good the food was, I can't wait to come back! We ate so much we had to roll ourselves back to the car, which unfortunately was 1/2 mile away because of some local art festival. We were about to go to the beach, but an immediate cheese coma called for a change of plans and instead we ended up napping in a sunny, grassy park sprawled in a belly-up puddle. Love this place! I don't know how I dint find out about this sooner. I came here after a tanning session at the beach and was starving ! So I yelped some places close to me and this caught my eye . So my friend and I went and were so satisfied with the portion (kind of on the bigger side) and with the taste of the food. The employee whose name I cannot recall was really nice and even gave us tips on what we would like depending on our tastes. Listen up. I am going to now talk about The Pocket Burger Shack. I went to visit a friend in CSLB- for lunch i asked her, "take me to a OG Long Beach place- something I can only get in Long Beach." WITHOUT HESITATION: she said, "Ok. I'm going to take you to Pocket Burger." and as we walked down the hall way of her department building to the parking lot- her friends would as where she was going. Every time she said, " I'm Going to Pocket Burger" the response was varied from, "Fuck, I want to go" to "Mmmm nothing like Pocket Burger." I arrive at Pocket Burger. My friend tells me, "You want the Pocket Burger.You can try other shit later, but for now you NEED the Pocket Burger" AS SOON AS WE WALK IN we are greeted by the owner, Ron. He recognizes my friend, "Francis!" he says, and he asks why she hasn't been around and where her other friends are. When she explains she's been really busy with school and that today she had bought a different friend who had never tried Pocket Burger- he went out of his way to make sure that our burgers were PERFECT. Now the Pocket Burger is a big thick juicy perfectly cooked medium rare patty with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. But what topped it off was this beautiful tangy, creamy bbq sauce like thing. Ron wouldn't tell me what it was. BUT TO TOP THAT OFF there are as much AVOCADO there is meat patty. Not the dinky slices of avocado from places like Red Robin or any Diner can give you. This is a truly Californian experience. Look, all I can say is, IF YOU are ever in the area, GO TO POCKET BURGER. They CLOSE AS like 7 PM though, this is not a late night joint. But its worth talking to Ron. Tell him you love his burger. If its not busy he'll talk to you, If my review has convinced you to go to Pocket Burger, trust that Ron will make the best God Damned Hamburger that makes me want to get my carless ass on a bus from Pomona to Long Beach to have another Pocket Burger.
