We like a good smash burger with an ocean view. Sunset Beach is such an iconic OC location. I don't know why we haven't eaten here before. Probably, only because there are so many wonderful restaurants in a 15 minute driving radius from our homes. Green Cheek Beer Co is the perfect example. I have driven by this place 1000 times in the past decade or so. We came, we marveled at the ample parking lot, the amazing rooftop patio, fabulous fast, made-to-order food. **This more of a food review, if I had to review just on the alcohol it would for sure be 4 or even 5 stars*** I've passed this place for years and finally decided to stop in. First impressions weee not bad, it's just not what I was expecting. There are no servers, so it's 90% self serve. You order at the counter, get a buzzer, and then pick up your food when it's ready. Everyone working there was super friendly so that's a plus. As for the food, it was good and pretty much exactly what I was expecting. It's elevated bar food. My wife and I had the chicken club as a sandwich and it was decent. My mom got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was really good too. We also shared the pretzel, and that was solid for what it was, getting wings if I go back. All of our kids got burgers, and those were pretty standard burgers. The tots were great since you don't always see them on menus, and they were a nice change from fries. A bit of a bummer for the kids is they don't have fountain drinks. There are only a few of non alcoholic drink options, and water is self serve from a dispenser. That was not a big deal but felt like I should mention it. I brought home a four pack of their Spiked Lemonade. I really liked the hint of lavender. It was smooth and easy to drink, they sell of their alcohol products there and they are not super expensive for craft beers. There are plenty of places to get this type of meal, but if good beer is what you are after then don't pass this place up. Parking can be a factor. They do have a private lot, but it's small. That said, I loved how close it is to the beach. We took a walk after lunch, which made for a nice afternoon. I've driven by Green Cheek a few times. Since I love a local craft beer, we went in. Green Cheek is located in Sunset Beach off Highway 1 on the beach side of the highway. There's an upper level that has outside seating, and if you're lucky, you can get one of the seats with a view. Actually, many seats offer a view of the ocean. Green Cheek serves beer, hard seltzers, and food. The food is great. Smashburgers, fries, tots, salads, fish tacos, etc. are all on the menu. I visited the Green Cheek in Orange, CA and had the wings, and they were OUTSTANDING. The best part was that they served a LOT of wings, which I love. After visiting Green Cheek a few times, I got a Paloma. Their Paloma is a sweet-ish grapefruit seltzer that is not short on taste. The moment I sipped it, I knew I couldn't order anything else. We drove a case of Palomas to our daughter in Arizona because there's just nothing like it! We try to keep a few cans at home, but since they often sell out, sometimes we run out. Green Cheek is dog-friendly. Although our dogs don't yet have brewery manners needed for a lazy afternoon at a beer pub, I love seeing people enjoy the time with their doggos. read more

Met up with a good friend of mine, who recommend Green Cheek in Sunset Beach. It's rare to see their beers on tap in NoCal, so I was excited to partake while visiting SoCal. I arrived earlier than expected and parking was a nightmare. Always is in the beach communities, but parked about 4 blocks away with an easy walk to the establishment. There was no parking available in their small lot but the drive through window to pick up beer was a neat idea. I was fortunate to find a table downstairs at the back the tap room near the stairs and decided to start with Flying South, a 5% Mexican-Style lager. Really enjoyable, simple on the nose and palate. Followed this up with Good For Morale, which was my favorite beer of the day. Still on a Czech Pils kick after returning from Prague and this offering quite rich and full with a mild sweetness. I finished the day with an order with Lots of Fries and a Classic Double Smashburger and 8 year Vol. 1, a Wesdt Coast Pils. Layered with a plethora of hops, this was a very fruity pils with very good aromatics. All in all this was a great family friend establishment to visit. It was crowded on the Sunday we were there, but there was always a place to sit, either downstairs inside, or upstairs, outside. The staff was friendly and helping and the taproom very inviting. The bun was relatively small, and there was just two patties and American cheese in the sandwich. The first time I came, a friend introduced me to their Lavender Lemonade Hard Seltzer, and I've been craving it ever since. It's the perfect balance of refreshing and subtly sweet - just an absolute delight. On my second visit, I was so excited to grab my Lavender Lemonade seltzer again, but the cashier also recommended I try the Pierre's Palmona Hard Seltzer. He gave me a sample, and wow! It was just as delicious! I'm definitely coming back for more of that one too! I love that they offer their seltzers and beers in 4-packs, so you can take your favorites home with you. And the food--let me just say, my friend ordered the lemon pepper wings, and he couldn't stop raving about them. They were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Definitely worth trying! A neighbor of mine told me about this place and the good food that comes out of their kitchen. They dont have a big parking lot, so sometimes you have to park out on PCH. They do have a decent patio on the second floor, and either inside or outside, its very dog friendly. The burger was awesome and the fries were good too. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich and told me it was bomb. The beer choices are great and the pilsner i had was smooth and crisp. I told a friend of mine that they had a Tetris arcade there and hes excited to come put his name all over it. This place was perfect after kayaking. The view from their second floor roof top seating was so perfect. We were abe to get seating quickly, and enjoyed our beer with the view of the ocean. I went to grab lunch before going down to the beach. I got the Paloma to drink and a Smashburger both were really good. Here is where this restaurant falls short. I started ordering and the girl that was taking my order got interrupted and instead of asking for The Man to hold on a minute she avoided looking at me and started serving him instead. So I got ignored for a few minutes and then she finally took my order which took less than 30 seconds to pay. When I went back to close out I grabbed some beers from the cooler and was standing there in the line. There was a guy ringing people up who is usually here I'm assuming he is an owner or manager. He looked right past me and said to the person behind me that he could help him next. I told him I was next so he rang me up. I held my hand out for the receipt and instead of putting it in my hand, he dropped it on the counter, including the pen and basically threw it at me. While I like this restaurant and come often I've never had a good experience with this particular guy. His dismissiveness and rudeness to me has made me decide to make this my last trip. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure it doesn't make a difference and he's so rude that he probably doesn't care but I'm going to be candid with my rating anyways and hope I'm the only women that are treated in this manner at this location read more

Was looking for a nice lunch place after SUP nearby and decided here due to their patio seating for the beach views. It's two stories with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. We sat upstairs and music was not too loud. Excellent service: when (didn't get a chance to get her name, but she has black wavy hair and super nice) overheard it was my husband's birthday, they gave him a beer on the house- we were so touched by that gesture, you rock! We ordered the smashburger with fries and it was an excellent choice! My husband enjoyed his birthday beer. I didn't know that Green Cheek was in reference to a type of parrot, Green Cheek Conure, so I immediately loved this place for it and had to buy their merchandise: variety of Tshirts with their logo and stickers. Visited this location, as it was recommended by a friend as being known for a great burger. The location was dirty. Bugs, dirt throughout the seating area. They don't sell water. They have a water tank that can be touched by anyone, with glasses sitting next to it. Sorry, not my vibe. Burgers. What a disappointment. A chewy, greasy mess with no flavor. I suspect freezer burn? The pretzel appetizer is BOMB as well. Can get crowded on weekends, especially when the weather is nice, so if you go with a large group be prepared to wait for spots to open up or arrive early to save spots. read more
