I've driven by Pocket Deli many times over the last few years. Today I finally stopped in to satisfy my craving for a deli sandwich. I am so happy I stopped. The place is bright and welcoming with TVs and a lot of seating. The person taking the orders was so friendly and helpful. There were people sitting at tables as well as ordering to go and picking up deliveries. I ordered a create your own sandwich (turkey, salami, spinach, cucumbers and onions). There is also a condiment bar where you can add your own deli peppers, jalapeños and pickles. Oh my gosh...the sandwhich was huge! Definitely worth $12.95. My order was ready in about 5 minutes. The pocket bread is just toooooo delicious. So fresh and soft. Its definitely made to hold all of the fresh sandwich fixings. The next time I stop in for a sandwich, I plan to ask if I can also buy some of the pocket bread to take home. Yes....its that good! I finally got the chance to try them out the other day while ordering some items for takeout to bring to Burning Barrel Brewing next door. I ordered a large chili and their Big Al's pocket which included pastrami, turkey, bacon, lettuce, onions, brown mustard and provolone but I substituted the cheese with pepper jack and added bell peppers. The food was good although for the price point I felt like it was a little higher compared to somewhere like Corti Bros. I personally wasn't blown away but nothing was bad. They also blamed the bread being too small as the reason I couldn't add any additional veggies which I thought was a little odd but understood since they use pita bread pockets which can't fit as much as a traditional bread roll. My total after tax was like 23 bucks for the chili and sandwich. The service was fast and mostly friendly though with a lunch rush crowd type of ambiance. If they lowered the prices a little, I might have felt more inclined to leave 4 stars. I also said "finally" earlier to try them because I'm rarely ever in the area on weekdays so they're usually closed whenever I'm nearby on weeknights and weekends because they're only open from 9 to 4 Monday through Friday. Overall, I'd probably try them again if I'm ever in the area when they're actually open. Their menu did seem diverse with regards to pocket sandwich fillings and side dishes. I think I was just expecting more judging by the prices compared to other sandwich spots that have bigger options for around the same price or even less. read more

The food here is very very good. Its always fresh and flavorful. Today i had the cobb salad. Very well put together with plenty of toppings. Only thing woild change is the cut if the lettuce. Id like it not to be shredded so tiny. On previous visits I've had pockets and the bread makes the meal. Very soft, holds together and tasty. As with the salad, ingredients are very good. This location is located in a parking lot with a Taco Bell. Parking and traffic are a nightmare. I have avoided coming here just because of that. It seems to never fail that there is a lifted full sized pick up taking more space than it should in front of the restaurant. The size of the spots are small and the traffic in the TB drive thru just annoying. Also it might just be me but I dont think the people there like me....seem to be grumpy when I come in. Other than a guy names Alan with a cool accent, they are all short and not very welcoming. It might be that I come in during the lunch rush? Oh well, they have a seating area. I haven't found it very comfortable. They have a couple two seaters outside. When the weather is nice, I prefer that alone(ish) vibe out there. The set up is spartan and cafeteria like. I guess the important thing is...food is good. Price are on par (i think expensive) with places like this. Also to justify the three star rating....food is great but not the whole picture. Here is drives up the business rating to three. The ambience and parking are also part of the business. And with poor lot and plain seating those one stars are taken into account. The friendliness of the staff is also a measure. On the day I picked up my salad. I received a scal from the lady who handed me my food. I complimented alan, who was nice, and I stated that he had an accent because he came at me with an accent if he truly doesn't.Then, this was a sham, also, and another reason why I feel that this staff is unfriendly in every visit that i've been in. Again maybe it's me. I feel that the 3 star rating is true based off of all factors. And if the owner doesn't like it, i'm sorry. Because of his reactions, even though I have been patronizing this business.Because of the food and overlooking everything else I will no longer be eating here. read more

We went here on a whim and man was that one of our better decisions! We had an amazing lunch and the peanut butter cookie did not disappoint! I ordered the tri tip sandwich, I did and horseradish to it and with the horseradish it was a solid 9/10 it was very good! Cheesy and delicious, the bred was grilled it was very good. No veggies on it, but some bell peppers and onions might have sent it over the moon lol! They may have that already in a different sandwich that will be for me to check next time! The host said the peanut butter cookies were amazing and she wasn't lying! 10/10 would recommend they were ridiculously soft and soooo tasty! I'm sitting over here trying to figure out if I want the recipe or if I'd become a diabetic from eating them daily! I fail as a resident of Rancho Cordova, cause it's only today that I tried Pocket Deli. I've seen it as I drive down Sunrise, and of course when I go to Burning Barrel. I'm not usually one for sandwiches, but a few Fridays ago the owner walked over to Burning Barrel and started handing out free bread. Generous and smart marketing. I tried it at home... soft, fresh, and perfect for the garlic bread I used it for. I'm really happy I tried it. I will be back. First impressions was the size of the space. High sealings, massive kitchen area where you see the workers husltin' getting the orders out, plenty of tables and high tops. I came during lunch rush which was a great vibe tbh. It seemed like a popular local spot with lots of repeat customers. I ordered the Hot Connor Panini Sando - bacon, chicken, jalapeno and cream cheese. It was packed with flavor, and the protein to bread ratio was just perfect. I should've added veggies. I'll consider that next time. I liked the condiments bar where you can pick up peppers, pickles, sauces, etc. Self serve option is great. If there is only one small gripe I have which is the price - no drinks or chips, my sando was $16. That said, it kept me full and satisfied. This place has been a lunch spot to hit for decades. I frequented their old dive location before the built the new location. The food hasn't changed and it's amazing as always. Y favorite is the hot pastrami with fresh tomatoes and onions and a sprinkle of oregano. The meat is so flavorful but the best part is the chewy pocket bread fresh baked daily. First visit. When we walked in, the staff didn't seem particularly welcoming--no smiles or greetings, which made for a slightly awkward start. Maybe it was just an off day. I asked if the tri-tip sandwich was good, and the response was just, "Yeah, it's popular," so I gave it a shot. It wasn't cheap, so I was hoping it'd be great, but it ended up being just okay. The bread had a nice toasty crunch, which we both really liked. The A1-style sauce on the tri-tip wasn't for me--pretty acidic--and the cheese felt like a basic slice, not very flavorful. The tri-tip itself was sliced very thin, more like deli meat than traditional BBQ. My wife had the chicken ranch BBQ sandwich, which was actually really good--definitely the better of the two. I added some lettuce to try to be a little healthy. The pocket pita bread and huge! Very good sized pocket with a decent amount of meat. I liked the flavor but think I will try something different next time. There's one tall table at the end so I sat there to look at everyone else's food choice. Does look like you can eat here many times a week and not get tired. Will definitely try it when I'm back in the area. I remember going to this place when it was down the street from where it is now. The parking is horrible now. It has very few spots which is really bad. I parked by Taco bell. The place is clean and new looking. I am not sure how long they have had the new location. It is a good size for a sandwich shop. The unique thing is their bread. It is so soft and fresh. I hadn't visited this place in years. Their bread is still delicious as ever. My only complaints are the tuna salad pocket sandwich (which had previously been my go to order) was a little dry (there wasn't enough mayo in the mix.) I also distinctly remember that ordering a sandwich used to score you both halves of the pita bread they made your orders with so you got two pockets for the price of one but now you only get half. Times have definitely changed. Will give them another shot but will probably avoid the tuna next time. read more

It has gone through a couple of owners since then but I'm happy to report they have maintained the quality of the original. The new owner Alan is a super nice guy and provides excellent customer service and excellent product and very reasonable price. I would recommend the turkey or the chicken salad sandwich. Each sandwich includes, lettuce, tomato, basil and mayo. The magic happens when these ingredients are stuffed into a bread pocket to die for...it is super light and airy with no preservatives. Been here twice and store is nice and the sandwiches are relatively tasty. Like Togo's or Jersey Mike's, but no better. However the amount of meat you get on their $12 sandwich is pathetic. Literally like a few slices, just like Subway. And their tuna is dark meat with nothing but mayo (yuck). They create a more upscale image and then wreck it by trying to maximize profits while providing an overall sub-par sandwich. The bread was a little soft for my taste, would have been better if it had a crispier crust on the outside. Also, since it was a pocket, the meat did not go all of the way to the bottom of the pocket so there were a couple of bites with no filling. I visited this place for the second time. I like their sandwiches and the variety offered. The space is large and offers a lot of natural light. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Both times that I ate, I ordered soup - first time chili and next time pea soup. While I recommend the sandwiches, I cannot recommend the soups because of the saltiness. I don't know if they add salt to a canned product or, if they make their own, the person making it has a heavy hand with salt. I have learned now and will not order soup during future visits. Update to response from Manager: I understand that I may have found both the chili and the pea soup salty, but I try to pay attention to my salt intake because of some health conditions. Since you purchase these products and don't make them yourself, I understand that you don't "add" salt. I am curious though as to what the sodium per serving breaks down to if that is noted on the product. I really enjoy a good, hot soup and was hopeful that I could get that with you.
