Have been searching for a great Pastrami in the Sac area since I moved here about 5 years ago. There are many national chain options that have "sorry" subway like Pastrami, not even as good as Boar's head. As far as chain's go, Togos, our local regional chain has the best Pastrami VS other chains, but they do not compare to the sandwich I just had from Rim's Deli. This is dangerous as a lover of Pastrami. This has been better than all the other places I found listed for the "best pastrami in Sacramento," most of them served Boar's head. This place serves something else. It was a great freaking sandwhich. Best Pastrami I have had for a while. I'll use a portnoy rating scale and give it a 9.3/10 with Katz/Langer's being 9.8. Best little secret on the side of town! If you're about to go for a hike, picnic, or paddle boarding stop by and get a delicious sandwich. They have the freshest ingredients! You can watch them shave your meat in front of you. The customer service makes you feel like you hit a small mom and pop shop in Italy, and the whole town is there to celebrate the day. My wife said she wanted a French Dip and I knew just the place. We stopped in about 4pm and it was not crowded. I ordered the Hot Pastrami, and my wife ordered a French Dip. Since they weren't busy, the sandwiches came out quickly and were piping hot. My wife is a stickler for soft, fresh bread and she was not disappointed. The service was great! The staff was kind and the wait time was fast. The ambiance is similar to any classic deli, which is cool to see in Fair Oaks. I ordered the #2 which is a salami, capicolla, mortadella, and provolone sandwich on a french roll & a fresh brewed iced tea to go with it. The food was good, though it could have used some more flavor; a suggestion I see in a lot of these reviews. HOWEVER there is an option to add sauces/condiments so if you're worried about the flavor-- just add stuff!! It is a little pricey, but the size was decent. I have been wanting to try Rim's Deli for YEARS, and finally got the chance this week. Rim's Deli was one of my last stops before leaving Sacramento. I ordered the junior size pastrami sandwich with everything, with swiss instead of havarti, with added cucumbers and peppercinis. The sandwich was amazing, even though I thought the price was a tad high for the portion size. The lady who took my order was helpful and sweet. For some reason, I didn't see the normal hot pastrami sandwich on the menu, even though she said it was one of their most popular orders. I had asked her if I could just get a hot pastrami without it being a reuben. The sandwich came on a sweet French roll, with premium hot pastrami, swiss cheese, and of course, all of the fresh vegetables that I had requested. My only regret is not adding bacon, because I think that would have been bomb. I ordered the junior size, but, as soon as I left, wished I had ordered the large. I'm sure it would have been a better value, and I definitely could have eaten leftovers of this the next day. My family loves it so much & we are such fans of their simple yet tasty salad that I order 6 to 8 POUNDS of it for every holiday and none of it ever goes to waste! I highly recommend Rims! We were unsure of what to eat and stop at Rim's Deli just to see if anything catches our eye. I decided to get a Grilled Ham & Bacon w/pepper jack added avocado and had it toasted. My fiancé had a #2 to go and danish pastries a few raspberry, cheese and few apricot. Our drive wasn't too long, subs were delicious mine was perfectly warm from the bread (bread not hard at all)to center cheese not making the avocado taste weird but still being fresh. I don't really care for subs but this is my new favorite place. Everything from walking, to costumer service and samples of the pastries to the food was great. Wow. Probably the best sandwich I have had in the Sacramento area. Rim's is a staple. They were packed on a Wednesday afternoon at noon. I ordered the junior pastrami sandwich, and I added bacon, cucumber and pepperoncini, which were all great. The sandwich was full of meat and veggies and every bite was juicy. I really really enjoyed this. Also, I think I paid around $15, which for prices nowadays is fantastic for a sandwich that kept me satiated for half the day. read more

I came to try the pastrami because I read that their Pastrami sandwiches are good. I grew up in SoCal in the 50s and 60s when every other corner had a burger and pastrami stand. Those sandwiches were overstuffed with juicy, tender and just enough fat pastrami to add to the flavor. They're still available in the area and I get one every time I go down to visit. I am always looking out for something to equal or come close to those sandwiches. For that reason, I couldn't give 5 stars. It may be worth more for the other sandwich choices. This place did not succeed, I'm sorry to report! For starters, I have NEVER had pastrami cut into little cubes before. IMO, doing so did not enhance the flavor. I did not opt for the lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese that is their usual prep. I only wanted mustard and peppers. When initially delivered, it had Mayo, not mustard and had be redone. I saw not one bit of fat on the chopped pastrami which may be better for one's health but is not what I want when I have pastrami. The pastrami was quite dry and appears to have been cooked on a griddle instead of dipped in a delicious jus, which is my preference. Obviously, lots of customers like their pastrami sandwiches which just shows how subjective judging food is. I am glad that this place exists for the people that like it. It seems to be a very popular place. However, since I was not happy with their pastrami sandwich, I won't be back to try other things they serve. The potato salad was good though not the kind I prefer. I wish there was a REAL Jewish-style deli in the Sacramento area. Has anyone else wanted this kind of place for our area? It's been a staple in this area for years for a reason, and believe me, independent gems such as this last the test of time for a darn good reason--the food is stellar, the quality is unmatched, and the service is top notch--all of which Rims possesses! I love to support independently owned businesses like this--you know they put way more love and pride into what they do and do so with a smile and passion for it, which is what I observed the day my husband and I stopped by (at the recommendation of my fellow Yelpers, of course!) and we were greeted with an abundance of hospitality and genuine care for their craft. I'll be honest, it wasn't easy to chose what to get---it all sounded SO GOOD, but I knew I just had to get a sandwich on that delicious marble rye bread (not easy to find elsewhere) and I'm so glad I did! My first visit. They have a very pleasant staff. It was a clean store with tables to dine in out take out service. Ordered two breakfast sandwiches and was very pleasantly surprised. They were delicious. I had the marble rye which was fresh and tasty all by itself but add in the generous egg portion and freshly made bacon instead of that paper thin microwave bacon everyone else uses. Decent food, moderately clean deli with the WORST customer service you could ever not want. I have returned, time and time again yet, other than ask what you would like to order, and this is done in between speaking to a co-worker, they continue to chat amongst themselves without paying any attention to what the customer says. My order gets half missed each and every time as they are too busy chatting with each other to actually pay attention to what a customer is ordering. No "Hi, welcome in" or "Thank you" is ever offered. Just a lot of chatter between people behind the counter. I will find a new deli where they actually appreciate customers. read more

We dropped in for lunch on the way to the lake on a Saturday. Located in a strip mall, this is totally a 'locals' place. The owners seemed to know the names of everyone as they came in (except us). Tight but clean counter and dining space. We ordered a couple sandwiches and sat outside at one of the 2 or 3 tables. The basic turkey/ham and cheese sandwich was unremarkable, and in my opinion, overpriced for what you get. Their Reuben however was excellent.
