I only achieved two hours of sleep here but it wasn't the hotel's fault. The space was clean, surprisingly quiet and well appointed. Our bunkbed room featured a small bathroom with a shower, small tvs with each bed and a *very* small window. The staff was friendly at check in and they offer complimentary coffee innThe morning. The hotel also features a rooftop bar that seems to draw a crowd. The location is easy walking distance from Times Square, Grand Terminal Station, etc. My only complaint would be the tiny hotel window that made the room quite dark. 5/25-5/27/2026 What a time NY was all the sightseeing and activities all you really need is a shower and bed after a long day. Check in was so easy staff at the desk were so nice and attentive,our room was ready early so we were able to settle in. Room was clean with storage space under the bed, plenty of outlets for charging, a few hooks for hanging and a hair dryer in the bathroom. No problems with our stay bed was comfy and the tv had plenty of channels. The only thing I will call out is it was no actual wash cloths and the ledge separating the shower from the rest of the bathroom was short water ended up all over the floor by the end. Restaurant and bar downstairs with a pool table and tv,s. Lobby was clean and always someone around day or night. This brand has locations around the city and I can't wait to try the others. Great price, amazing staff and an all around great time. BONUS TIP: they have a gym right around the corner that you can use for free through the hotel. On the site they have discounted parking but they were down for renovations which sucked but it's plenty of parking garages around. read more

Absolutely adored this hotel. We booked a queen pod for 2 nights in town to see a show. Location wise this can't be beat. It's on a quiet street located just a short walk to Grand Central - easy access to anywere in the city with little to no foot traffic. My kind of spot. Service was polite, coffee in the morning was a nice touch, and view from the rooftop was incredible. We were on the 9th floor with a beautiful view of the city. The rooms are tight but the beds were comfortable, shower pressure was top notch, and if you're just looking for a place to lay your head after exploring the city, for the price this was such a perfect find. It's a cute but very small space. It would be very inconvenient but possible to open a suitcase. This is the only place where 2 bed( bunk bed) was cheaper than one bed. I really liked the location. You can go basically anywhere from Grand Central. There was no refrigerator and the bathroom door is made of glass which was annoying. The staff was okay they didn't have the "customer service" professionalism which was mildly irritating. I was just old they don't do early check ins at this location so keep that mind. The roof top bar was a nice spot to chill but automatically added a 20% tip which is annoying because I don't think the service was that nice. read more

Great stay overall. The location was excellent--only about a 12-minute walk to Times Square. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the mattresses were comfortable. The shower had great water pressure, which was a big plus. I really liked the lounge downstairs where you can get free coffee, and there were pastries available for purchase. The evening drinks were very nice. The spicy strawberry margarita was delicious. We stayed in a bunk bed room (room 1025). Really excellent experience. I spent a week recovering here after major surgery. Staff was unfailingly kind, quick to respond, happy to provide fresh linens and towels every single day without complaint. The rooms are tiny, but my 6'2" husband and I (and my large service dog) were able to peacefully co-exist in 200 sq. ft. Waterfall showerhead is divine. Bed is very comfortable. The only thing in need of improvement? Storage space is limited. Instead of a small bedside bureau, there's a tiny metal shelf. Coat hooks and plenty of hangers, as well as under-the-bed storage, help make up for it. A great value for Midtown. Arthur & Sons is overpriced but good. read more

The good: staff are friendly and helpful, room was extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. They made the best of the space they had and there is a safe and an underbed drawer for use as a bureau, and some hangers on an open rack. Shower had good water pressure and despite the way it was set up (no door or partition, just a ledge) there was no overflow. They do offer free walking tours to areas of the city--I didn't make use of them because I had already made other plans but it's a nice perk. Nice walking location in a relatively quiet area with quick access to subway, bagels, Rockefeller and Bryant Park. The mediocre: the facilities are fairly old (well maintained but old) and some of the outlets in my room were nonfunctional. As other reviews have said, the bed is a twin and the room is TINY. I have stayed in hotels in Tokyo and Hong Kong that were not this small. But it was well laid out and was perfectly fine for a solo traveler not staying in there much. A similarly sized room with a bunk bed and housing two people would have been... not okay. The not-great: the "facilities fee" on top of the room and board fee? An additional $20 per day charged on top of the room fee and taxes for... what exactly? Honestly if not for this, even with the other things this would have been a five star review. But the bait and switch of advertising a price, BOOKING a price, and then tacking on an additional per diem afterwards is obnoxious, and considering it's now illegal for airlines and Ticketmaster, the fact that some hotels are still doing it is rage-inducing! read more

I had booked a twin and was upgraded to a queen sized room. I was traveling solo and just using the room to sleep so I was happy not to pay full price for a full size room. East coast is home and I needed a simple place to stay for one night on my way to visit for the holidays. Before booking, I read a lot of reviews here on Yelp with complaints about size and noise. I booked anyway for location and price -- it's a budget hotel in NYC, what do you expect? Once I landed in JFK, I took an easy train ride here. Again, I grew up here so navigating how to get here was a breeze. Honestly I was expecting less of Pod39 - it's marketed as a hostel-type experience with individual rooms. It's actually more of a dorm room where you can run into people from all parts of the world and because the lax nature of the hotel, it's easy to strike up conversation with anyone you may bump into. I was impressed with how many floors Pod39 had - I happened to be on the very top floor with easy access to the rooftop. It was closed for the season, but the door was open a few times and I was able to check it out. Regardless if the rooftop was open or not, there is quaint seating here before you exit onto the roof. It's a nice little area that most people probably wouldn't frequent knowing the rooftop is closed. I reserved a single pod which had one bed and was perfect for my quick stay. The layout of the room was smart and space saving - from the bathroom and shower and sliding door, to the storage underneath the bed. The room provides just what you need - bed, toilet and shower, desk, towels, even down to a safe. The one thing I did notice was the smell here - almost mold-like, which I think is a result of how humid it can get in here when running a hot shower and because the water hits the window shutters which probably causes some build up. The Club Room is an all encompassing lounge area where there's a bar, a game of pool, some arcade games, plenty of seating, and where breakfast is served. It reminded me of a winter cabin where you might run into your hallmark lover haha. The website says there is continental breakfast - when I think continental my mind automatically thinks free. The breakfast foods are not free and are individually priced. However, coffee, tea and water are free. Because I went in thinking I didn't need to pay, I didn't bring my wallet and my room ended up being charged which was fine. All in all, everything from check-in to check-out was smooth. They offer you to store your luggage safely away in a back room until 11pm so you can continue exploring the city outside of your check-out time. Pod39 was perfect for my one night stay in a city I'm familiar with. I would definitely recommend it for solo travelers (though I did see families of 2-3 here) and for short-term stays, or long-term especially in NYC where most of your time will probably be outdoors! read more

Tiny, tiny, tiny! The bunk room is way smaller than you are assuming it will be. We ended up upgrading to a Queen bed, which was a little better. I feel the rooms were quiet and clean. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I liked the downstairs area to hang out and top of roof was cool! They have a water refill area that helped us out from not having to buy bottles frequently. They have $5 croissants and danishes if you need a quick bite in the morning. 10 minute walk to Trader Joe's one way, about the same to ride the subway at Grand Central station. We did one of the free tours to China town/Little Italy/Soho that the hotel provides. It was nice and informative. I noticed some of our group didn't tip. In case someone didn't know, you should tip your tour guide, it is just the right thing to do. Ours was great! One thing that would be a deal breaker for me staying there again is the shower/bathroom door. The clear/blurred door is just a sliding door and you can still see the outline of the person taking a cr*p, or showering. It is weird and you can still hear them too as if the door is opened. I think I would rather have a thick shower curtain there instead of the sliding clear door so at least you can't see them. If owners changed that, I would stay there again. But even though it was my older adult child with me, it was like no privacy. read more

This is the third stay at this hotel and location. We came as a large group of students from a college in Vermont. From the minute I checked in, they had everything prepared for my group including breakfast vouchers and room keys. Everyone at the front desk is helpful and attentive. The rooms are very small but extremely clean and they have everything you need for a week's stay. The bed is comfortable but the best part of the hotel is that the walls are thick and you don't hear other people. I recommend this hotel highly! read more

Pod 39 was a perfect place to stay while visiting the city. It was a great landing place after spending a day on the go. Clean, comfortable, great amenities, and safe. We only wished for two things - more hooks in the room and usb ports (there are plenty of outlets though). If you stay, visit the onsite Arthur and Sons Italian Kitchen - we stopped in after a Broadway show for a late night snack and had Fried Calamari "Mulberry Street Style" with dirty martinis. I went back to Pod 39 last Friday for the first time in nearly 10 years. Now I've been to their super hip (and yet quite chill) rooftop before but this was my first time at their bar/lounge area. Some friends from out of town were staying at the hotel for the weekend and they invited me to hangout for some drinks and games. Now I don't drink but the bartender did pour me a delicious ginger beer.. shoutout to the awesome bar staff. The decor is lovey and the games were all top notch and well-maintained. The pool table was perfect to get a few games on- the cue sticks were rather new and the felt of the table was smooth and clean. Really, it was a nice setup! My favorite part was the ping pong room. I LOVE ping pong so seeing that they had a whole little private room dedicated to it really put on a smile on my face. Pod 39 might have just become my go-to spot for meeting up with friends in the city! I mean seriously... you've got a swanky yet casual rooftop combined with a super slick yet uncrowded lounge.. it's a total unicorn in a busy sprawling city! I have stayed at 4 of the pod properties before - pod 51, pod times Square, pod 39 and pod DC (obviously, in DC not NYC) I can highly recommend any of them, for affordability, cleanliness, safety, and location. My past trip to NYC post covid I stayed in a queen (or maybe a full?) Pod at the pod 39 and it was a great stay all around. Staff is always pleasant and friendly - check in has always been no problem even when I have been a little early. In the downstairs they had a bar with pool tables and games. Then from 7-11 am it turns into a cafe with free tea and coffee and reasonably priced pastries fruit and juice. The top of the beautiful Italianate building is a popular bar in season. You can also go just take in the view up there starting at 11 am. My room was quite small (I'm guessing 9x9 or 10) with a small bath separated by glass doors. The windows are small but there was one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom so it let in a fair amount of light. There's a TV, desk, rack for clothes and lots of outlets. The halls were very quiet and my room was cleaned promptly and thoroughly each morning. For the price, you can really not go wrong with any of these hotels. This one is 3 or 4 blocks from grand central Station and all its many subway and train options (I easily took the LIRR in from JFk) The hotel attracts alot of young people but also European travellers who maybe used to smaller rooms, and just your standard budget traveller (i.e. yours truly). The room size and the fact that the bathroom is essentially in the room may be a deal breaker for sharing a room, but you could probably get two single pods for the price of a larger mediocre hotel room. Room space was realistically true to all reviews. Only about a step away to get to the bathroom, and two to the door. Conveniently their bed is design to store ur luggage under with some space by the door as well, so only a party of 1-2 is ideal for this place. The place is clean as expected, the shower could of use some work. House keeping comes every morning, the rooftop was beautiful and drinks were reasonable from nyc. The room is clean. The room is small. Tiny. The price is right. Tiny by New York standards. Four stars one $. Value accommodations with some style. check out the Italian renaissance facades downstairs and on the roof. The free wifi is a bonus! So is the lounge with games. Pod 39 describes it as budget-friendly. 100%. I don't at all understand reviewers who talk about things being expensive in New York. This is the fricking financial capital of North America. It's supposed to be more expensive than Atlanta, Hoboken, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Peoria, or even Chicago or Los Ángeles. For 275 bucks, on booking.com, this place is a flat out deal. If you can't afford New York, then just go to the biggest city close to where you live. But don't call the relatively inexpensive hotel expensive because you're not used to paying that much. Period. The bed was very good, nice comfort level, but not the best. I had no issues with noise on the 15th floor in 1513. The small but stylish (with the white subway tiles bathroom) worked for me. The glass door isn't an issue for a solo traveler, but only the bottom half is clouded. Not full privacy if that's what you prefer with your roommate. Love the rooftop bar, Empellón Al Pastor. You pay a premium to drink at these in Manhattan, but this one is included with the price of your room. They even give you a 20% off discount coupon. Ask for the bartender, Josh. He knows his spirits and will make you a fantastic cocktail. The tequila and mezcal collection is superb, by the way. The margarita with fresh squeezed lime juice and agave sweetener is 100% on point. This is a fantastic value hotel. If you need larger rooms, you know all the big brands, so go ahead and stay there instead. I mean pay there...cha ching. This is a stylish, but cheap boutique stay that's nowhere close to being a loud, dirty youth hostel. Private bathroom. Clean, quiet room. I highly recommend Pod 39 if you're looking to save bucks while you're in New York and don't need a lot of space in your room. Which is very much the case if you're gonna be out in the city by day and night. Why come to New York to hole up in your room? Have fun, see the sites, have enough conversations to understand why New Yorkers are uniquely awesome. Stay here and you can afford to use Yelp to find some great but expensive meals. read more

Great for what it is... basically a hotel version of a youth hostel. Rooms aren't terribly expensive for where it is, but are small and tight and yah, the bathrooms are a little weird sometimes (like obstructed windows instead of walls so you can sort of see your roommates showering). Overall the location was perfect for us, and reasonable. The staff up front isn't super useful in regards to any questions from a tourist perspective, and the downstairs bar / coffee shop isn't super useful, but does provide a nice little shared space. read more

This place has a lot going for it. Excellent location, good price, fairly trendy looking, clean, and safe. Keeping in mind that I knew coming in that the rooms were tiny, I would likely hear a bit from nearby rooms, and that an occasional pot smell was likely, normally, this place would be a 5. However, there is a huge flaw that will keep me from returning or recommending this place to anyone. The HVAC system. The heating does a good job of warming the place, but the sound level is unlike anything I've ever dealt with at any hotel or hostel I've ever stayed at. Think of the loudest mostly broken bathroom fan at the cheapest hotel you've ever stayed at. Multiply the noise by 10. It still will not reach the noise level I'm talking about. The noise literally vibrates the floor, walls, and furniture. And the worst thing is that it's not really your own room that is the cause of the loudest version of this, but rather other rooms. Now the reason I didn't knock them all the way down to a 1 is that if you stay during part of the year where everyone's Heater or A/C isn't working overtime or if you get pass out drunk every night of your stay, you might be able to get some sleep. Or you might end up contemplating the cost of switching hotels because you can't sleep with your bed shaking a few minutes every half hour. read more

It's a good hotel with friendly staff and basic features. However, there are multiple things that are very inconvenient. We booked a room with a bunk bed for my mother and I, and the bathroom was right in front of the beds with frosted glass in the middle with clear glass at the top and bottom. Weird and uncomfortable when you're staying with someone who is not your partner. They did offer us a quick change of room, however with one queen bed, no separate beds. I'm sure this is based on availability of rooms so this may no the case for everyone if they run into this issue. - Bathroom had the same glass situation, but was in the hallway so it wasn't as uncomfortable. Staff was great and quick with anything we needed Very clean and comfortable No fan in the bathroom??? Glass sliding doors which do not close like normal doors + no fan allows other people to hear you doing your business, which can be extremely uncomfortable! No microwave, fridge, iron & ironing board (did receive one after requesting one) which is not do or die, but can be inconvenient Lighting situation is super weird. Turn off the main light at the front, and the bed side lights turn off too? Just had to keep switching stuff on and off randomly to get lights to work No plugs on one side of the bed Most importantly, for the price of this hotel, you'd expect a little more. read more

My opinion? NO. Not sure if just this location, or all - my review is only for Pod 39. Never mind claustrophobic, I was so uncomfortable, because I felt like I was in an unclean Hotel. I couldn't afford to just leave; arrived late/left early for medical. Disabled, really was stuck there. I have help writing this review. Check In. Not much of a greeting or even interaction (not a busy desk), but it was quick. Odd thing, they never asked for ID or credit card (booked online, direct & first timer). When I walked downstairs later, no one there. You can walk right in from street to enter the bar area. Need to swipe a room key, but just step in the elevator w/anyone & you're in/up. NOT great security. ElevatoR/hallway: s-l-o-w. Maybe 1 wasn't working? HOT. Stuffy & humid. Same for windowless narrow hallways (a little airflow would help). Poor signage in halls for elevators/stairs in an emergency. Wife is handicapped, we always pay close attention. Can only speak for 1 room; 516. Claustrophobic at best, biggest concern was cleanliness and pride/upkeep, or lack thereof. Bath: Shower basin w/noticeable large tuft of hair in center of drain. Hair on walls. Basin foot area w/soap & water stains, fabric threads. Fingerprints around ALL knobs. Sink drain clogged. 2 washcloths slung over sink kept falling on the floor (no place to put them). Heavy water (?) stains on floor under sink, around the trash. Toothpaste dried on the wall, toothpaste/soap stains on the (only) TINY shelf, prints on silver toilet mechanism (obv never wiped frm prior guests), half roll of toilet paper hanging (no other roll), floor filthy w/white stains, watermarks, etc. Cracked/dirty light switch. Dirty glass sliding door into bathroom w/prints/white marks all over both sides (tp or something stuck between glass doors, clearly visible!) Bath floor in front of toilet had white marks. Black shutters above sink covered w/prints & toothpaste (?) residue. Positive? They give you 2 small bars of soap & stack of plastic cups. SO obvious not cleaned. Entry door: Metal; absolutely filthy. Didn't want to touch it. White marks, fingerprints & God knows what else. INSIDE. Exterior also bad. Above door obvious dust & dirt, easily accessible for cleaning. Long vents LITERALLY dripping w/dust. Wife has lung fibrosis... Really not a good environment. Other areas: clock Isn't even straight; crooked & they couldn't take time to straighten. Dust on hangers & where you hang. White marks & small debris on rug that would/should have been picked up by vacuum. Water bottle found *INSIDE* small windowsill. Speaking of that specific black shuttered metal window - looking outside, next to the bed - you can only open the left side partially, or it hits the bed. Other side looks like someone beat it. The small, single metal chair has rust on the seat & God knows what else sticking out of the back of it where you sit. Zero decor unless you count the crooked clock. The Positive? A small safe. (The bath towels are stored next to it.) BEDS: bunkbeds. Fingerprints!! When you lay flat in the bottom bunk & look up, all you see. Handprints on Formica (?) & metal areas. Obvious stain/mark ON TV screen. Note- there's a tv on EACH bed, at your feet. Marks on walls. Dingy. Positive? Sheets mostly clean. Black marks & black hair on outside of top bunk. One thin mattress. Suitable. I checked for bedbugs! Never saw one in my life, but don't think there were any. OTHER: If you care about view- ASK. 5th floor courtyard & I could have had convos w/the neighbors. Not a nice courtyard either. From what I could see thru filthy windows. Room SIZE: Small, *as expected*. MUCH smaller than anything pictured in the "twin" category. Smaller than even online photos depict. Felt like I was in prison. Or train sleeper car. Claustrophobic. Thank God I'm not a heavy/thick person, or I probably couldn't fit between wall & bed. Would be painful for 2 adults. Oh... sleeping on the top bunk? You can easily watch your roommate shower. Only bottom of glass bath doors are frosted. Cost: I ended up paying $255 incl taxes/fees very end of Sept, a Tues. The room itself was approx $200 w/o fees. While less expensive than other hotels in area, (not hostels or obvious seedy locations), it was NOT worth it. I'd spend +$50-$100 to get a larger room elsewhere. Never mind larger, but cleaner! SO disappointed. Thought would be fun & unique experience, since it was only one night because of nearby medical appts. Takeaway: room wasn't cleaned- beds/towels changed. Maybe building isn't suited to their needs, & they can't give the "Pods" experience they market. I get the less is more marketing, but not LESS cleanliness/airflow/hospitality/comfort. Never recommend to anyone, at any price, for any reason. I want my money back. I'm not going to waste my breath asking. Most miserable, Hotel stay I've ever had in my life. Never again. read more

I had an amazing stay. The ladies, Jensen and Angela were rays of sunshine. After a long early morning flight from Los Angeles we had to wait until the check in time. They allowed us to check our items so we could explore the city and grab a bite to eat. They were polite, even after our dumb LA questions (I still don't know what a bodega is). Give the a raise! Amazing young people. They will go far in life. Oh, and promote them and give them a raise. read more

I stayed here for two nights earlier this week. Booked the room with Southwest Airlines. The single room was really tiny, but I was by myself and I travel light. Not a problem. The room was very clean, the bed was nice, a TV with a lot of channels just several feet away. Mini bathroom just a step away. Lots of towels; shower was effective and had body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Now, I must say that the lobby/bar area amenities were really lacking. In the morning when I checked out (4/28/22) , one coffee maker, almost empty when I tried it. No breakfast stuff at all. Not even a stale muffin! You can do better. Especially at these rates. I'll give it a conditional "good" review. Room fine, other stuff, not so fine. I liked the location on 39th Street and it's just a short walk to 3rd Avenue. There are some nice spots for food and drink nearby. Maybe a later review for these. read more

I knew Pod 39 wasn't going to be a luxury experience when I booked it, but it's just wild how little you get for your money. One night (a Saturday) cost me $211, and was actually the cheapest option on HotelTonight. The check-in process was quick and relatively painless (be prepared to wait a little if you arrive close to 3PM), but the room was just SO small. Like even by hotel room in Manhattan standards, these are tiny. Again, I get it, it's called "pod", but expect to feel cramped if you're sharing the room with someone else. As a positive, the hotel was clean and we had no issues with our stay or check out (11AM, pretty standard). Not terrible, but also not sure I would return. read more

An uncomfortable unpleasant stay with showers straight out of a concentration camp. Not to mention a facilities fee that was not disclosed when booking the room. For the same money you can do better in the area. read more

Perfect for me. Modern furnishings. No bed bugs (at least for me). View of the Empire State Building. Nice shower and shower head compared to other hotels with similar fees. I should add that my room was TINY. My bed was twin-sized, the bathroom was so narrow, the rail with clothes hangers was above a tiny, corner desk with towels piled on top of it, and the chair, other desk, and wall lamp (which was quite huge) were all made of metal, so if you clang them against each other late at night, you may wake your neighbor. It's easy to accidentally bang your ankle against the corner of your bed since the room is so tiny, but honestly, it suffices for a place to sleep in after a day of exploring. Loved the windows and city view. Lastly, service was great and they actually have a 13th floor (that's where I stayed lol). read more
