My family went to Poe's Tavern after a day at the beach and ate outdoors. The indoor area had tons of unique portraits of Poe. The server was extremely welcoming and recommended a few options for our table. We ordered the chips and guacamole (their produce was local) and we all ordered burgers and sandwiches- The Pit and the Pendulum, Rue Morgue, and the Hop Frog. Everyone loved their sandwiches and the amazing fried onions. At first the spicy margaritaI drank was too sour, however the bartender put extra agave in it which made it taste a lot better. What started out as a disaster couldn't have ended better. When we arrived to pick up our to go order for 8 hungry people we thought our bags seemed light. Turns out part of our order had been given to someone else. Mistakes happen. But how it's handled makes all the difference. The manager ( I think his name was Hunter) came over, introduced himself and apologized. He gave a 25% credit back to our card, told us to keep the other food, but he was remaking our entire dinner. Poe's Tavern is a great casual restaurant with an Edgar Allan Poe theme. They have a large selection of local and regional craft brews. We were greeted with a smile and seated in comfortable booth. The service was excellent! "Able" checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was to right on task. Our apps and entrees came out promptly. The fish tacos and quesadillas are great choices. I chose the Amontillado Burger which cooked perfectly, tasty and satisfied my appetite. The fries are out of this world! Our guest had some mobility challenges, and we were pleased with how she was accommodated. We were catching up with a dear friend that we had not seen in a while. Have been eating here since they opened staff, drinks and food is always good. Really wish yall would add the sweet siracha shrimp taco to the menu permanently. I can't, with good conscience, leave that 5 star review up here. While it's still decent, it's lost a lot of its luster. Their fries used to be the best around, and they're not anymore. Their Cole slaw is kinda gross. The cabbage doesn't look fresh and it's drenched in dressing. I had their Buffalo shrimp salad and the flavor was good, but there is NO way that shrimp is fresh rather than frozen. They literally have a local fish market within walking distance! The lettuce was mostly spinach when it states "mixed greens." Oh. And while the glass was cold, the beer wasn't. The menus are gross and dirty and they need to just start over. We use to go here all the time, but after today, we've decided we've given them enough chances the past few years. read more

I love Poe's. When you walk in the door, you know you are in for an experience. It's a very warm and fun feel, and the patio is always a delightful place to dine as well. The menu has some neat items to choose from, including enough specialty sandwiches to keep you coming back to try "a different one" every time. You can have your sandwich as a beef patty, chicken, or house made bean burger. All have great reviews from my family. The mahi tacos had mixed reviews - hubby enjoyed them but I did not. Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had, the barbecue sauce was also delectable. Smokey yet tangy in all of the best ways, Poes is a must have if you're in the Wilmington area. Additionally the fries were exceptional, skinny and crunch on the outside but soft on the inside, plus they loaded so many on my plate it was hard to finish the whole pile in fact my girlfriend had to get a separate plate to move them onto. Went here on the recommendation of an influencer and it was probably thr worst burger I've had since moving to Wilmington. My husband had the Mahi fish tacos and said they were dry fish pieces and cold tortillas...bland potato salad. We will not be returning to this establishment. Dinner at Poe's Tavern in Wrightsville Beach was great. Great cocktail (Distinguished Physician) and local beer (Berliner Weisse) accompanied superb burgers. I usually need mayo but the burger was so good it needed nothing in addition to the toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and bacon) that came with. The hamburger is ground daily on premises. Juicy and delicious. We also sampled the nachos featuring drunken chili. Go hungry!!! The portions are huge!! Staff is friendly and service is great. I am a fan of Poe's works and the decor was fun. So I've been to Po's numerous times and I love it even came to his birthday party lol ! This is right by the beach and laid back with outdoor seating. It is pet friendly with a bowl of water awaiting. The food here at Poe's is Poe themed which I love! The menu has burgers, salads and pretty much something for everyone. They have a selection of spirits along with beer on tap. The prices are very reasonable. Each time I've came the bartender,waiter/waitress has always been attentive. It's the perfect place to come enjoy some food and drinks and head to the beach! If you are close in a rental it's a short walk on Wrightsville beach depending on where you are. We met some friends here for lunch. We were very impressed with the decor and atmosphere. We each got a different burger with either hand cut fries or coleslaw. They fries are like shoe strings, very yummy and somewhat crispy. They give you a mound of them so you might want to share. I had the Annabel Lee burger which comes with a crab cake on it and they are already half pound burgers, my husband got the amontillado and a bowl of chili, my friend got The Sleeper, and my other friend got the special but I can't remember what it was.
