Then later the same day, I received a generic email stating that they cancelled my order ... and to wait 5-7 days to get my money returned to checking. Drove all the way to Maryland to pick up my certified pre-owned GTI from Pohanka VW and the process couldn't have been easier! Was able to negotiate my trade in value, a final price, estimated monthly payment and a pickup date all over the phone. Once at Pohanka my sales consultant Demarco was welcoming, friendly and accommodating as he had me set up in the finance office within 10 minutes of arriving, which I greatly appreciated since it was a long trip back home. Once in finance Zachary was a pleasure to work with, not once did I feel pressured to buy an extended warranty or any other protection plans, and he did his best to work on getting me the best interest rate on my loan. My entire experience will not fit. There is more to the story. This sums up my experience of Pohanka VW and their business practices.  They attempted to sell me a new, untitled car that had been involved in a near total loss accident and did not disclose it.  Not only is that highly illegal, it is immensely immoral and unethical.  Please read below for the full account. On Monday, February 10th I initiated an internet inquiry on a new VW Atlas, entering my trade information so I could get an idea of what my car would be worth.  I live approximately 90 minutes north of the dealership and wouldn't want to waste a drive down in the event that the dealership wouldn't be fair in an appraisal.  I was directed to a third party site to enter my car's information and was given a range of approximately $19,500 to $21,300, which is a very big swing.  I quickly sent some photographs of my car to illustrate how clean it was, hoping to get a more solid number.  I know that it would be subject to a final inspection.  At 8PM that evening, I was informed that the appraiser had left for the day and I would have a firm number by no later than noon the next day.  Fast forward to 6:30 the next evening(yes, that's six and a half hours AFTER I was supposed to be given the information), their General Sales Manager Andrew Kelly reached out to inform me that their appraiser was out with the flu and I would not have an answer on my trade value.  Apparently only one person is allowed to appraise cars in this store and when that person isn't in, the world stops.  Wednesday comes and goes.  No appraisal number.  Thursday afternoon I get a message asking how much I owe on the car, as if that has any bearing on what my car would be worth.  Not an apology for STILL not giving me a trade figure.  I instructed them to treat this as a cash transaction and any balance left owing on my car I would be handling.  I switched gears and moved to a different car in their inventory, a new Arteon SEL Premium R Line.  After doing so, I FINALLY get a number on my trade.  Four.  Days.  Later.  That's inexcusable.  But the Arteon they show in inventory is a unique car with the color I liked and the equipment I wanted, so I was willing to hang with the dealership through the purchase transaction.  I was informed it was a dealer demo with 2,400 miles on it, which didn't bother me too much.  I asked for a few photos to ensure the car was in good shape, which the sales person sent to me with no problem.  The condition checked out and I was primed to head to my bank to secure my financing.  I set an appointment on Thursday the 20th at 9am to pick my new car up. I received a buyer's order to take to my bank showing incorrect numbers with 2,400 miles on the odometer.  I asked to have the numbers corrected and then the buyer's order shows up with 4,700 miles.  I inquired about the discrepancy and was informed that the car had 4,700 miles, not the 2,400 miles I was originally told.  This obviously annoyed me.  I asked to have the oil changed as a result of these additional miles being on the car and was told that wouldn't be a problem.  On Wednesday, the day before I was to pick my car up, I went to my bank, signed my loan documents to bring a check down to purchase my car when I received another phone call, this time from Mr. Kelly.  He informed me that while the car was back getting the oil changed, a check engine light had popped on for an evap sensor, probably related to a loose fuel cap.  At that moment, I disclosed what it was that I do for a living, a finance director for a non VW-dealership.  I told him that a normal customer would be upset by this, but I understood that it happens.  He seemed relieved with this, knowing that I would be a little more understanding to that issue.  We left the conversation with the car getting fixed and my appointment to pick the car up being delayed. Thursday, February 20th was the day I planned to be driving my new car.  That afternoon, my sales person sends me a message stating that his manager wanted to speak with me.  It felt ominous.  Two short minutes later, I got a phone call from Mr. Kelly.  He informed me that while the car was in the shop getting the evap sensor replaced, one of his technicians informed him that this car was involved in a near total loss accident while in use as a dealer demo.  He claims he wasn't aware this was the case and was thankful his technician informed him of this.  I do not believe that for one second.  His words "most dealers wouldn't let you know about this" told me all I needed to know.  Working in the position I do, I'm well aware of what the law states in regards to untitled cars being sold with damage.  It must be disclosed PRIOR to sale.  Any dealer I've worked for that has had a damaged car had it prominently disclosed when a potential customer was interested and had all of the body work documented. read more

The repair service at this Pohanka Volkswagen in Capitol Heights dealership is terrible; I had my passenger- side rearview mirror replaced at this dealership at a cost of a thousand dollars. After driving one day, the mirror casing fell off the vehicle and was lost. I returned to the dealership and was told they would order a new one. On my second visit to get the work redone, I was told that the wrong part was ordered, and I would have to come back a third time. On my third visit, the mechanic and the service attendant told me this time that the wrong color part was ordered for my Volkswagen. It has been three weeks, and I'm still waiting for the correct part for my vehicle. read more

I never leave reviews but this establishment is terrible. You can tell they are money hungry and will do anything to get a big commission from fixing these vehicles instead of having integrity. I had to bring my car back three times in a span of three months spending thousands. Every-time I get my vehicle back I have it less than a month before something else happens. I bought a used 2019 VW GTI. The car came with one key so I bought one from the dealership ($181). I go back to get the new key and they me it needs to be programed to the car. Ok cool.The had my car for 20 min, and charged me another $159. But hey that's dealer pricing. Any other time when I come in for any kind of service the do a outstanding job. Bad Place to purchase a vehicle I did place an order for an Atlas 2018, and I paid a deposit of $1000, and they told me that the car will be available in 30 to 60 days. The specs agreed on are, blue color, Shetland Interior, and Black rims. After 45 days from placing the order, I go a call from their sales rep, and he told me that is he black rims a re a deal breaker or not. I told him, yes and I have been waiting all that time, and I am renting a car until I get the new car, of course it's a deal breaker. I got another call from the management, and they told me we cant deliver your car with black rims. My issue here why did they wait 45 days to tell me this, and than they told me to take my deposit back, which is not fear. I am trying to reach the owner, MR. I called them in the morning, regarding their Ad on Cars.com, for a Jetta GLI advertised for $15700, and asked if that price is available for all the customers and if there is any restriction and limitation associated with the price. I have been told that the price is correct and I can come over to the dealership. I drove 40 miles to the dealership and after wasting my time for couple hours, they said that there was a computer issue, and the real price is $30000. After negotiating with them and noting that other dealerships are advertising a similar price, and even without specials they charge $21000 for the GLI, they acted very unprofessionally and rude. BUYERS BEWARE!! Pohanka VW does not honor their advertised prices and pulls the bait-and-switch on potential buyers. They advertise a car for an "Internet Price" but when you go in to buy the car at that price, they tell you that price isn't available and the price they'll sell you the car at is thousands of dollars higher. In my case, the internet price was $15000, but when I went in I was told the lowest they could sell the car at was $18000. Very dishonest and a flat out bait-and-switch. I previously bought a car from here a few years ago and the process was much better. Saw an internet price, sent them an email with my offer, and went in a few hours later to buy the car. I wish it was still that way, but clearly the folks at Pohanka VW are more dishonest and unethical now. read more

I took my car in for a oil change they did it but maybe 8 hours after my car started smoking so i popped my hood an it's oil every where they didn't put my oil cap back on so i went back to tell them they say ok an checked it but I asked to speak with the manager and he was jus like yea u know we are human an mistakes happens and I'm telling him that's not the way u handle things I spent money in the establishment but they inconvenienced me an didn't have any regard for it by far the worst experience I've ever had with suppose to be professional read more

This is the second time we have been in to this location for service the service was done in a timely manner However... the men the work there in the service unit all stand around gawking at the woman that come for service. My wife and I was there watching and she felt extremely uncomfortable. The guy all ran to the window to look at my wife as we were leaving so she asked if could always come with her when ever she has to take the vehicle in. I bought a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid from Pohanka VW in July of 2016. It had one owner prior to myself, 51,000 miles, all maitenence done on time, some manufacturer warranty left, and they had a sale at the time offering 100,000/2yr Warranty on Transmission/Engine. Sound like a great buy right? Absolutely not! Here I am six months later and I need a new transmission. After being towed to my local VW dealership (Ourisman VW), and spending $400.00 for a part that did not fix the problem, I am at Pohanka VW trying to get this rectified. While Oursiman VW was trying to find out what was wrong with my car, they gave me a loner car. I appreciated that and it helped in assisting that I did not miss work. They then found that the transmission was bad, and I had to tow my car to Ponhanka VW. Pohanka VW first tried to tell me that my battery was dead and thats why my engine light had come on. When asked to check the codes that was so nicely printed out and given to me my Oursiman Volkswagen, they could not get the codes to clear and had to determine that I indeed I needed a new transmission. They told me that they do not offer loners. They said they needed to check and see if the warranty company that Pohanka VW partners with will approve replacing the transmission on the car I bought from them 6 MONTHS AGO. They had me sit literally from 9:30 am - 5:00pm before they gave in a put me in a rental. I called everyday checking in on the answer, that in my opinion was obvious, but It took them THREE DAYS before they gave me an answer on my car. They told me that they would replace the transmission but it would take almost two weeks before the part comes in and that the warranty company is only willing to pay for two days of my rental. I had to take the rental car back and now I do not have a way to work unless I spew out $200 a week for a rental car while I wait for the part to come and them to fix it. Plus, they want me to pay a deductible of $200. I have decided that I am filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau. I have been taken advantaged of and sold a lemon and now I have to pay the price for it. This is the worst experience I have every had with any car dealership in my life. I would never recommend taking the chance with a dealership such as Pohanka VW. They will sell you a lemon and in return make you pay for it. read more

Don't buy from here whatever you do. We had the absolute worst customer service experience. We bought a new 2019 Tiguan. It was a manager's car at the location in Dulles. Which means it had been driven slightly by a manger. We were skeptical, but it was the only one in the area with all the features we wanted. And the manager Jasonte assured us he'd have it detailed and would repair any scratches or dings before pickup. WRONG! They had the car for 2 days before we picked it up. And nothing had been done. We wait for 2 hrs and finally have to leave. Jasonte promises that if we make and appt and bring it back they'll take care of the items we pointed out during pickup. All lies. We make an appt and first they tell us the person that can make the repairs isn't in. Why even let us make the appt. and then Jasonte starts telling us who won't fix this or that. He says you've had the car how do I know that was there before? BECAUSE we pointed it out and took pictures before pickup. Plus this was suppose to be taken care of before pickup. The only reason we're in this situation is because of your first failure. Now, we have to go back AGAIN. And they won't even do what they're suppose to do. This is on top of the fact we had to take the car in twice within a week of having it because of a light coming on. I leased a SUV with the saleswoman who was brand new, just hired. It was obvious. Did not know anything about the suv we leased, luckily I have been watching videos on Youtube so I knew the features. "Im sorry, i just came from Volvo, I dont know anything." My wife loved the vehicle, so she got lucky with the sale. Also, Be careful with Jasonte. He lies to customers in order to get the sale. Being that this dealer is fairly new I expected more but obviously, I was wrong. Our car got towed to this dealer because it was running rough and our other licensed mechanic could not fix the issue. They told us, sometimes VW locks their work repair records for certain issues so this had to be fixed by a VW dealer. The car was checked in around 5-6 pm when it was delivered. We were told that once they give it a look over the next day they would call when they had something. Morning, noon, midday....nothing?! Not even a communication call was given out of courtesy!! So we decided to call to get an update and they said they were still checking everything. After almost evening time we call back and they told us they were finished but didn't even call to inform us!!! Crazy right? Once they tell us all the issues wrong with the car, we let them know that we would like to come pick it up. Once arriving there the front desk attendant tells us he hadn't done anything in the system so we have to wait on him to input it, this takes around 30 minutes. This is terrible to me because we also have cars from other brands, that never conduct business like this when we take them to the dealer. Info usually is taken in the beginning and updated while they are working. After they finally finish doing the updates they say they are going to find our keys so we can leave. My mom goes outside to wait for our car to come around. After waiting outside for another 30-45 minutes. What is happening...why is it taking so long? Finally after utter irritation we go back in, to find the front desk clerk and others running around trying to find our keys and telling us they can't find them. In my mind I'm thinking, this is a professional establishment that deals with car repairs on the daily where are the key lock boxes? Why were our keys not placed in there? All the while this is happening the front desk guy asks us do we want a latte or ice cream, huh? Are you kidding me? No I want my keys so I can leave!!!! After tearing up the place they finally find them and drive the car up. I have never in my car ownership days have dealt with such an unorganized, backwards place as this dealer is. They need help! If you go there do beware, they need to start listening more to their customers and focusing on keeping up with documents and keys. read more

Also, the sale rep asked me my capability of financing and my credit store even before I decided to make a purchase. I guess I look young and I am asian. It all began on April 27. My husband was in the market for a new car (I was not). He wanted a GTI (I already had a 2011 GTI). So what did we do -- we went to Pohanka VW to see what they had on the lot, for him of course. As we are walking around, I see a sales person walking towards us, and I told my husband to book it LOL If this sales person wanted us, he would have to chase us (some sales people are just pushy and I just didn't want to deal with it). Alas, Christopher caught us and was super pleasant, not at all pushy, and personable. He listened to what we had to say, and opened up the only GTI they had on the lot for us to check out. My husband decided that I should sit in the driver seat -- it was all over from there for me. Here's where it got tricky, for Pohanka that is, me and my husband both knew EXACTLY what we wanted. The color, the addons, everything. We left without a car, but with a mission for Christopher and Jasonte -- to find us the cars we want. Fast forward to Monday, April 29. They found BOTH of our cars, which was no easy feat! (mine was a unicorn because of the color and it needed to be automatic). They were going to be transported to the dealership from their respective locations on the 30th. We went in Monday, did the deal with trading our cars, signed all of the paperwork, and both of us became proud owners of 2019 GTIs. Jay, in finance, was wonderful, kept things simple, didn't try to push worthless addons on us and got us out as quickly as possible! Here, things get a bit hairy, BUT will a positive outcome. Tuesday night we picked up our shiny new cars! It was exciting and wonderful. My husband and I were both thrilled! Until rock chips were noticed in the hood; and the next day I noticed my sunroof was damaged. We were both disappointed -- brand new 2019 cars that were damaged?! AND we had to point it out? Okay -- so here I will say Pohanka should have inspected the cars and made US aware of the damage (not the other way around). No one spending any amount of money on a brand new car should receive it with any amount of damage. However, they made it right. Jasonte took care of ensuring my husbands hood was fixed (they tried touch up paint, but it looked awful and ended up painting the whole hood -- it was nicely done in the end). My sunroof -- I initially went to my normal dealership, but things were taking WAY too long with them. When my husband shared with me the wonderful customer service he was receiving, I immediately jumped at an opportunity to give their service another shot (years prior I had a HORRIBLE experience and refused to go back). Andrea did not disappoint. My sunroof was repaired, but not 100%. The service manager, Adam, is currently working to get it all right, which I appreciate. Overall, I am thrilled with the buying and service experience. Everything that was wrong they are making right, with no cost to us (which is how it should be). We got everything we wanted, for what we wanted. It was truly an exceptional buying experience. I have been trying to get my USB port fixed for 3 weeks now and after being assured that everything was fixed I pick up my car only to have my whole system crash 30mins later while driving home. Not only are their technicians horrible obviously the customer service in this place is the worst I have ever seen. They never open on time and always close before the listed time. It is a nightmare to try to get someone on the phone and the loaner car they gave me had half eaten sunflower seeds all over the backseat and floor. Bought a used 2011 VW CC from Pohanka VW 3 months ago. Engine and transmission need replaced, intake manifold and timing chain needs replaced as well as every seal on the engine. When confronting salesman AJ, he lied and said that he warned me not to buy the vehicle before I bought it which is false. If they would have told me not to buy the car, then I wouldn't have bought the car. He obviously knew some information about the cars problems and never disclosed the issues with it when he sold it to me. Stay clear of this dealership and especially AJ. Very shady and I don't want them to take advantage of anyone else like they did with me! read more

May I began w/Zach provided outstanding customer service. He does need to empty his voicemail. I brought my car to VW in July for a mysterious issue draining the battery of my 2015 VW Passat. VW had the car for approximately a month and was still unable to locate the issue. I was recommended that I needed a new battery, (which I just purchased a new battery before bringing it to VW); then I was told I needed to replace BCM Module and Coding Module, along with replacing the radio; which I refuse to do. All and all I spent monies $1434.91 for nothing to work. Even now I'm still jumping the battery daily. I find this to be highway robbery that VW had my car for a month or more and the issue was not ever located. I did ask to speak to a manager at the time and of course, he/she never came to assist or called me. Just know, I will never purchase another vehicle from VW this definitely left a bad taste in my mouth along with you're so-called expert technician. TOTALLY ROBBED! read more

I purchased a vehicle while it was raining. They told me to bring it back on a sunny day they would detail it as a new delivery. Needless to say I had to bring it back three times for them to clean it properly I had to wait two hours each time. It would've been cheaper for me to pay someone to clean my car. Service is horrible. I would not even bring my car in for warranty work if I need to. Please avoid this dealership you will regret it if you don't. Also the vehicle was on sale at the time of purchase but the sales manager was dishonest and gave me a higher price. Worst dealership in Maryland They sale VW , Honda , Hyundai. Avoid Pohanka Volkswagen at all costs. Wow - what a terrible experience at Pohanka Volkswagen. Yelp requires at least one star, but I'd give zero if I could. I brought my vehicle here for a price quote on fixing a P2177 (System Too Lean Off Idle) fault, which I had found/diagnosed myself the day before using an OBD. I was told over the phone (and later in-person) that since my vehicle was still under the 6 year/72,000 mile "People's Warranty" that any diagnostic fees would be waived and that any repairs needed would most likely be covered too. Awesome, I thought. So I arranged for a ride to the dealership and dropped my vehicle off. Several hours later I received a phone call saying that my warranty would actually NOT cover anything because there was supposedly E85 octane fuel in my tank, which was the cause of the fault. And since VW did not put the fuel there my warranty could not be used. Nothing else was wrong, just this supposed suboptimal fuel problem. I explained that I can say with absolute 100% certainty that I have never, ever put E85 octane fuel in my vehicle. I commute daily for work and go to the exact same gas station every week. I'm pretty sure they don't even sell E85 octane fuel there...or anywhere. (I'd never even heard of E85 before, but after researching it apparently most gas stations don't even sell it anymore.) Apparently VW expected me to take their word for this supposed suboptimal fuel that somehow magically found its way into my tank...and then went back on their word and refused to honor my warranty or waive the diagnostics fee like they had previously told me. The options given to me were to pay $800 to drain my fuel tank (which seems absolutely absurd) or leave everything "as is" but pay a $160 diagnostic fee (which I was told on two separate occasions I would not have to pay...not to mention that I had already determined the diagnostic fault code myself and provided it to them). The $0 quote to get me in the door quickly became $800...or $160 at the absolute least. When I arrived at the dealership to pickup my vehicle I asked to speak with the owner and/or manager. I waited in the lobby for nearly 1 hour. Nobody came out to speak with me. The dealership and service department was not busy at all. In fact, all of the employees were just standing around, not working, conversing with each another. There was maybe one other customer there at the time, but it seemed like they knew the VW staff, so I think it may have actually been an off-duty employee. Either way, I waited a very long time to speak with someone at a dealership that was not very busy at all. Because I had other things I needed to do, I eventually just asked to pay the diagnostic fee and leave. Nobody at the dealership once tried to make the situation right or help me in any way. The worst part of this situation is the obvious "bait and switch" tactic used by this dealership. I was told that my warranty would cover everything on the phone...then told the same thing AGAIN when I showed up to drop my vehicle off...then suddenly a few hours later Pohanka VW reneged on that statement and was charging me. Apparently the "People's Warranty" should actually be called the "Dealership's Warranty"... because it certainly helped them out, but not me. I've had some pretty terrible customer service experiences over the years, but this one ranks pretty high on the list. Thankfully there is a dispute resolution / arbitration clause in my warranty, which I intend to pursue. I will also be filing a negative report with the BBB along along with negative reviews on social media, etc. I don't want anyone else to have the same experience I did. To my fellow consumers: Avoid Pohanka VW at all costs. Save yourself the hassle, bait and switch tactics, and terrible customer service. Drive the extra miles to Waldorf or Alexandria Volkswagen instead. Or better yet, support your local auto repair shop. That's what I'll be doing from now on. read more

I've been going to Pohanka VW in Capital Heights ever since I owned my Passat and Atlas. You'd think by the amount of frustration I've had, that I've had these two cars for several years. Actually, it's been about only 2 years (first the Passat, then the Atlas for a total of 2 years). Of the about the 6-7 times I've been to Pohanka, I can say for certain that I've only had 1 satisfactory service. From simple things as a car wash that most dealerships offer after service being horrible and leaving glaring dirt and spots all over the car, to extremely slow service, to no call backs when parts are ready or the car is ready for pick-up, to showing up at the rental car (loaner) location with no reservation on file, to inability to mount a license plate bracket level or correctly while leaving grease hand prints on the car. The poor license plate bracket mounting effort will now require me to put more holes in my front bumper. Pohanka simply doesn't care, and will probably just pass this review off as a disgruntled customer, but there is no way by chance I'm the only one who received 6 bad service experiences out of 7. I almost forgot to mention that my purchase experience of my Atlas was awful as well....it took all day and they over charged for taxes and fees (to the amount of more than $2000) that they eventually corrected almost 5-6 months later. It's absurd to think their service quality is acceptable to their standards. Although my car is under warranty, my experiences have been so poor that I plan to take my car elsewhere for service (except for warranty work). *too bad 0 stars isn't an option read more

Never go here. I bought a car from them about a week and a half ago and they were incredibly unhelpful. They refused to get me a second key saying it would take three months to get one although another local VW dealership was able to get one in three days, and the car was shaking on the highway the day I bought it even though they said it was inspected and good to go. I brought the car in at 8:30 this morning to get their mistake fixed and it's currently 2:30 and I'm still waiting here for my car to be ready. I'm sure leaving this review won't change anything though, looks like the owner only responds to 5-star reviews on this page. Grow a pair and fix your problems. As others have said, this is probably the worst dealership in the DC/VA/MD area. After a month of harassing calls to bring in my leased Jetta in for trade as they needed used cars, and would get me a great deal on a new one We went in to see what the deal was. Right off the bat,the sales people do not even know the cars they sell. No clue on the trims and features of the cars they sell. I was teaching them what the differences were, and the features on different cars, they were amazed, thats not good at all. Then I started to ask about numbers. Numbers like residual, that are standard numbers, and deals/prices. "I don't know, but lets get the money guys to tell you...." can you fill out an application? Um no, you haven't even given me a price on the car! 2 HOURS LATER, when Im ready to walk out the door, the " money guy" comes over and gives an absurd price not even close to a good deal, then says we need to roll the remainder of the lease into the new loan. Excuse me? You harassed me for over a month, then try to pawn off some scam of a deal? Nice try. This is a classic example of why people loath dealing with car sales. I can ensure you won't get the best deal on anything here. They don't even want to deal with people that have the slightest knowledge of how leasing and buying cars work. Pretty good service. I took my car here to get a tire replaced under my Fidelity warranty which is unfortunately something that I've had to do every year elsewhere in the DMV. Service was local, quick and easy. It was done to my satisfaction within a day because I needed a new wheel as well. Thanks again! read more
