Service dissatisfaction. Dropped my vw for an oil change at 8am before work. Normally oil changes take a couple of hours. So i had a co worker drive me back to work. 10 am strolled around and no call of my service being fininshed. Was notified my car wasnt in the service center. Called again at 1pm to see the progress, car still not in service center yet. Asked to speak to supervisor or manager and was sent to voicemail. I then told the associate that I at this point I just wanted my software update done and would take my car elsewhere for the oil change. I had a coworker drop me off at 4pm at the service center and my vehicle software update was still not done. My car was not ready for pick up til . VW service is very limited. Service manager reported only 2 qualified mechanics. I've taken my Passat there several times for oil changes and had a good experience. Anything more complex is beyond their capability. I dropped my Passat off for two open recalls on Friday night and had to call them each day until the following Tuesday to get any information on their progress. Not able to wait any longer, I picked it up after they had done only one of them and told me the check engine light issue was fixed. The check engine light came on as soon as I started the car, even though they told me it was fixed. Not much emphasis on VW here. read more

My Service Department experience was exceptional. Scott S. and Kevin P. were professional, thorough and were in constant communication with me regarding the status of my vehicle. Also, there was no confusion over the cost of the work - they provided me a detailed estimate up prior to completing the work, and the final bill was actually a few dollars less than the estimate. I left feeling like they had gained my trust and respect. In addition, the staff was extremely knowledgeable with aftermarket parts/work for my new GTI, and helped me choose great quality parts to fit my budget. As a true "gearhead" that enjoys modifying vehicles, I felt like they were competent and comfortable helping me modify the vehicle. The staff was absolutely wonderful and the mechanic that serviced my VW was the best!!! I will not let any other dealership work on my car other than Pohanka! March 09, 2019, I purchased a car (with a trade-in). The staff was initially very attentive. After the completion of the sale, I was told that trade-in will be paid off. They were going to get the payoff from Carmax. Carmax provided Pohanka with the payoff on March 19th; however, the incorrect amount was applied to the account STRIKE 1. Having both, new car loan and a previous loan, caused my credit score to drop 27 points STRIKE 2. I spent a week calling Finance, Salesperson, Used Car Manager and Reconditioning Manager. I left 2 vm for each as well as left messages with the Receptionist. I attempted to open a credit report dispute on March 26th. Since you can't dispute a credit score, there is no action that can be taken to return the original credit score. I must rebuild my credit. Having not received a call, I went to Pohanka to appraise them of the situation (March 30th) STRIKE 3. Everyone swore they never received ANY of my calls. In consolation, I was told, "..... it wasn't a problem; they can write a letter to the Credit Bureau ....... like they did for Mr. XXXX". Indicative that this happens a lot. Throughout this ordeal, I requested to be status along the way. On April 1st, I sent an email to everyone recapping the events and the required corrective action. This email included my credit file number; however, they again requested the file number on April 23rd for the letter STRIKE 4. No one was ever proactively reached out to me. Not only did I not get a status, I had to contact Carmax to inquire about the payoff. The payoff was finally done 4/4/2019, almost 1 month later. I did not receive a Letter of Correction until 4/26/2019. When I attempted to pick up my tags, NOBODY seems to be able to locate them STRIKE 5. Now, I must pay $72.00 for new tags. I explained to Kevin Pohanka that I was totally dissatisfied with the service I have been receiving. To add insult to injury, he said, "I think we have gone quite out of our way for you" GAME OVER! The audacity that he could say that after striking out with me MULTIPLE times. I am telling you, please be very careful and meticulous when dealing with Pohanka Volkswagen. This could have been a simple mistake and easily corrected with minimum impact; however, the horrible customer service, exasperated the whole problem. I would have given them a 4/5 star rating initially, but I am hard pressed to rate them a 2 (I have my car). read more

I didn't buy my car from here, but this is my dealer of choice for maintenance. They are professional, courteous, and take good care of your vehicle. The free shuttle service is clutch when you need to get somewhere. I haven't had to bring my car back for any issues after they serviced it. Currently, they share a building with Hyundai for service, but their own facility is being built right now. I'm sure the service will be even better after it's up. read more

I went into the service department for an oil change the service representative ask a question instead of looking into the system to see what my car needed. I came for an oil change which was 29.95$ I ended. Up paying 172.82$ for an alignment and tired rotation I never received a service review page. And then I wanted to upgrade to a CRV 2017 that was a couple of days before. I was at Bowie darcars the sale customer service from the manager to the salesman was unacceptable they lied that they ran my application to a bank that I got my first car 2017. The lied about my credit score. They wanted me to put down 7,000$ and my new accord. In other words Honda set me back in time. So fuck them all I'll go back to where I brought my car from. Went in for a service left with a 5 month battle on getting refunded for the rental car that was complementary with the poor service job. Highly recommend to look at the many other volkswagen dealerships in the area. Customer service is not a priority, tried contacting the "managers" in all departments no one is ever available to answer questions currently have an investigation going with the BBB. They seem to have a history of poor service highly recommend to look else where!!! read more

I would not recommend this dealership based on the experience I had. My grievance with Pohanka VW-Capitol Heights is the substandard, and inadequate communication from the staff throughout the process of getting my sunroof repaired. I initially called to get an estimate on having my sunroof repaired and it was very difficult, almost impossible to speak with someone. Although reluctant, I took the car in to be repaired. After two weeks, and spending $1521.15 (as of the date of this review) my my sunroof remains unrepaired. What little communication I have received, it has been inconsistent; which I find absurd and appalling. As a customer, I should not have to initiate contact or follow up to obtain a status update with the dealer staff; I would think it would be the opposite. While you tend to pay more for repairs at a dealer shop; the biggest advantage of taking a car to a dealer shop is its tie to the auto manufacturer which specializes in repairing and maintaining the car brand only. The aforementioned is why I chose to have to repair done at the dealership as opposed to a local repair shop. Needless to say I am very disappointed. read more

I purchased my 2014 Passat on 6/18/2019 and have been in love with the car ever since. Runs very smoothly and is a dependable car. As of three days ago i drove over a nail and sought to get it fixed. After getting the run around at pep boys on st Barnabas rd, i was informed that i need the rim key to unlock the plate. So i called the dealership the next day thinking it would be an easy fix. Boy was i wrong. I got passed around to several different departments. My face began to grow bright red because this is an easy fix. I finally got to speak with the sales manager by the name of Jasonte. I informed him of the issue and the need for expedience. He gave me three options. I could either call AAA and get them to break the rim cover, Come in and get the plates taken off permanently because they have a master key, or he could order them for me. I opted for the third decision and informed him that i still would need that rim unlocked to get a tire on and that i was coming in. He said OK and we ended the conversation. Four hours later i show up to the dealership and i just knew i was going to have an interesting experience. I walked in at approximately 6:05 and the receptionist next to the service desk was very polite and informed me where to go. she was actually the most delightful part about the trip. I then step over to the service center desk and surprise surprise no one was there. I then walk over to the parts desk to grab someones attention. I informed the gentleman at the desk of my issue and he asked me was anyone sitting at the desk. I said no. A woman by the name of wendi martin was retrieved from the back. I informed her of the issue and she then tells me that i would have to pay for a whole new set of bolts and a key. I told her that i was never given the key to begin with. I then asked her why should i pay for it when the car was supposed to come with the equipment but did not. She then goes and retrieves Jasonte, he comes out shakes my hand and asks what the issue is. I tell him and he begins to talk to Wendi about something walks over to the car and inspects the vehicle to search for the key. He then walks back into the dealership and i didn't see him again. Not only was my problem never resolved, but there is an expectation for me to pay for something i never received. I will be writing the BBB about this issue because this is ludicrous and i am downright disgusted. No one has taken responsibility for this negligence. Not only is my vehicle a safety hazard now, but i am still without a way to change my impaled tire. read more

The staff in the service department and finance department are incompetent. I bought a 2015 Passat and heard a whistling noise every time I drove on the highway. I took it back 3 times and was told each time that there is no noise and no leaks. One time I was told the noise is normal. I drove another Passat and did not hear the noise. I had to file a claim with the corporate office and take it to another dealership to get it fixed. As far as the finance department, my contract was wrong and I had to sign it 4 different times. The payoff check for my old car I was leasing was not sent, and the payments for my lease were still coming out of my bank account. I lost count of how many times I had to go down there to talk to people to get things straight. Phone calls and e-mails were not returned. I have never been told to call someone to check to see if they are doing their job. I do not recommend this dealership to anyone looking for a new car. Totally unprofessional and incompetent. Update on 5/31/15: To date my leased car has not been paid off. I purchased my Passat March 21, 2015 and these people still have not sent the payoff check for my leased vehicle I traded in. I had to contact corporate to get answers. Apparently, they sent the payoff check to the wrong address! The payoff document I signed clearly states who to write the check out to and where to send it. I don't know where they are hiring these people from . The check was allegedly sent overnight last Tuesday. I checked on it Friday and it still has not been received. These people at Pohanka assured me that the payoff check will be sent well before May 18 (the due date of my next lease payment for a car I am no longer driving that has been sitting on the Pohanka lot for sale since March 21). So if anyone is trying to buy a 2012 BMW X5, guess what? You won't be able to drive it home because the title is still with BMW, not Pohanka. I do not see how these people are still in business. Totally unacceptable. I have been in contact with a lawyer. read more

So upset with my service here. We leased a car here- where we were told the vehicle we wanted would be to difficult to get, fine okay. We selected another vehicle and left with dealer tags- good for one month if I remember correctly. We were PROMISED we would get the tags back in time when the others would run out. After being called back to the store 2-3 MORE times (a 30 minute drive from our house) to resign contract errors on the companies part, we still did not receive the registration and of course ours ran out. We were forced to pay for ubers and taxis, as the car we were paying for was technically illegal. I emailed about this and they eventually got the tag to me in a few days- promising a $50 gift card and free gas for my troubles- both of which I did NOT receive. We needed an oil change and purposely avoided this service station, as we had such a HORRIBLE experience here. read more

After I left the dealership I realized that I left some personal belongings in my trade in car. Living approximately 30 miles away Faith went above and beyond by mailing me my belongings to save me a trip. This was definitely my best car purchasing experience to date. I really don't understand how a place like this is still in business. Last week I tried to schedule an appointment for a wheel alignment on a Tuesday for my wife's Passat. I was told that they were busy and that I'd get a call back and it never happened. I went to the dealership on Thursday morning and it took 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge that I was there and that was only when I spoke up and said something. I needed to get a shuttle ride and that took more than 45 minutes to happen. Prior to this visit, my wife and I inquired about buying 4 new tires and asked what tires where recommended for her Passat. The service advisor proceeded to print off all of the tires that they sell, including tires that don't fit the car and expected us to flip pages and scroll thru everything that they had, versus just giving us our options for our vehicle. The service department is horrible and non-attentive to it's customers. When I got the vehicle back from wheel alignment, the car was still dirty, so I guess they don't do complimentary car washes with a service. If it wasn't for my wife, I would never drive or ride in a Volkswagen and definitely won't be returning to this dealership for anything. I'll drive the extra miles (and time) to Waldorf for future services. read more

I was in the market for a 17 Jetta and during my search, I looked at all VW dealers within a 150 mile radius of my home. I had previously purchased 2 vehicles at the Pohanka auto group in Salisbury, MD and had OUSTANDING experiences purchasing both of those cars. I was in and out of the dealership within 2-3 hours for both of those purchases. Well in my pursuit of a VW, I decided to not go with the other dealers that I had contacted and to just go to Pohanka of Capital Heights because of my past positive experiences. I honestly wish I had never stepped foot in this dealer. Things started out ok at first, but I was told the car I came to look at was sold and that my 2nd choice vehicle wasn't anywhere to be found. After a lot of confusion about what car I was going to buy because of trying to get me to purchase something I didn't want, they finally found the car that was to my exact specifications that had been on the lot the whole time, but was overlooked. Now that was settled, came the financing and making the deal. I felt like I was not being included when it came to making the deal and am definitely not one just to say yes, without seeing everything in writing first. I was shocked that they were trying to get financing approved for an amount of money that I had never even been showed yet. I've never experienced such a clusterfuck when purchasing an auto in my life. Fast forward to 35 days after vehicle purchase and my trade in has not been paid off and I have not received my spare key to the vehicle(Vehicle had just came of truck and other key was in service). After several failed attempts of working with the staff at this dealership, I have now had to get Volkswagen Corporate involved and so far they have been very responsive. I'm very disappointed and so wish that I had purchased the vehicle at the Pohanka VW in Salisbury. I won't be back to Capital Heights! read more

I hate writing negative reviews and it has taken me a while to write this, but please listen to the customers telling you to stay away! I believe Matthew Clark the service Manager is a good person, but one is not enough. First, the used vehicle I bought from their Honda lot for over $10,000 has given me problems since the day I drove it home. From one service issue to another, I am surprised it passed inspection. What is worse is the customer service I have received here trying to get my car repaired on time. From broken promises to disrespectful communication, I have seen it all. My vehicle after a few months of purchase already needs a transmission and has been there for 10 days. I just called again today to inquire whether it will be ready before Friday as they promised and the advisor said, nonchalantly with no empathy that it definitely would not be ready! To add salt to injury, although the car is covered under warranty and the dealership is billing for rental days, they have told us they do not have cars to rent to us. I found out tonight from our warranty group that the dealership could rent from enterprise for us, something we were not made aware of. I have learned my lessons. I should have taken time to read the reviews before going here. Instead I went with the google overall rating of 4 stars. If you decide to shop here, I hope you have better experience than I have had. read more
