I had been here before but it had been a long time. I remember it being better. I got a slab of ribs and a pint of baked beans to go for $40. I live 6 miles from the restaurant. First let's talk about those beans. 1. The beans are thick which I like. 2. I think they must use hoisin in them. To me they have an Asian flavor. I was hoping for something smokier and not so sweet. 3. There are nice chunks of meat in the beans. 4. They are missing something. Maybe some kick to go with the sweet and tang. Or maybe a bell pepper to add some complexity. Definitely need to cut down on whatever is making them taste so weirdly sweet. Let's get into the ribs. Let me say first that I prefer beef over pork. I didn't realize they were pork or packed in styrofoam until I got home. They were kinda cold. The ribs were tender and not overly sauced. There was not much fat. The sauce is sweet and rather thin. They do not have pickles. Maybe a pickle would have made it better for me. Overall I found everything overly sweet. I would have liked something salty (did someone say pickle?) My boyfriend liked the ribs and thought the beans were pretty good. For me, it was all meh. Since I'm the hunter and gatherer in our little family, I doubt we will be back. read more

Do yourself a favor and go to Roscoe's BBQ. It is one of the top BBQ spots in KC. I have been to all the major BBQ joints, Joe's KC, Arthur Bryants, Gates, LC's BBQ, Jack Stack, Q39, Slaps, Blind Box, etc., etc. I have also been a KCBS Certified Master Judge and tasted some of the best BBQ in the world. Roscoe's is a hidden jem. It is a family run business passed from father to son. Everything here is awesome. They are only open during the week, M-F, from 11 am - 6 pm, that is the only negative I can think of. Prices are reasonable, service is awesome and you need to try Roscoe's. read more

The food was amazing. The burnt ends were tender and flavorful and the pulled pork was so melt in your mouth that it barely needed sauce. Though the sauces were also delicious. I nearly always order a brisket sandwich when eating bbq. This was no different. I had brisket, baked beans, and coleslaw. Smallish place on K32 and you order & pay at the counter. They call your number when the food is ready. I went for lunch and there were lots of working guys in there. Sandwich was great. Tangy sweetish sauce. Thinly sliced beef. Good portion. The beans--oh the beans. Dark, smoky, and lots of beef chunks made them pretty darn worth the trip. Slaw was decent too. You fill your own soda at the fountain, and on this visit the Diet Coke was flat. I reported it to the gal behind the counter and she immediately fixed it, and brought me a bottled Diet Coke. Pretty great customer service, to me! It is a bit pricy like all bbq restaurants are but an occasional splurge is necessary. I have just moved back to Kansas from Texas where unfortunately good bbq is rare (at least where I was, way down south near the border). So I am happy to be back to where we have LOTS of good bbq places to indulge ourselves!! read more

I finally was able to dine at Roscoe's BBQ; they are usually closed when I'm anywhere close to Edwardsville. They are closed on weekends and shut down at 3pm or 5pm depending on the day of the week. A small space with walk-up counter for ordering. I ordered the Burnt End plate with fries and slaw and the obligatory white bread. Slaw - chopped fine with slight drizzle of dressing and fresh. Fries - large crinkle cut fried crispy - perfect. Meat was tender and plentiful with a nice crunchy edged bark and house made sauce was excellent. Did it make my top 10 for KC BBQ? No. Do they deserve a return visit and a 5 star review? Yes. read more

Roscoe's closed in December 2022 due to owner retirement. Thankfully, a son and son-in-law have picked up the business. On my first trip back I was concerned that it wouldn't be as good. I had a burnt end sandwich with Krinckle cut fries. My wife had the pork pie. We both were pleasantly surprised with the quality of each. It was just as if they hadn't taken a year off. We last went there just prior to their closing a few years ago. We liked it then and decided to try it again because we were in the area. Absolutely did not disappoint us. We split a pulled pork sandwich and a large order of fries. The fries were the crinkle cut fries which we love and the pulled pork was moist and tender and smoky like pulled pork should be. I am a life-long (39 year) KC local and Roscoe's is def one of my favorite BBQ places around hands down. I've been there many times and never had any issues with quality. The meats are always tender and juicy. Their coleslaw and potato salad are outside of the box and that's what I like. They're flavorful and personally I prefer them over traditional. Cheesy corn is a must! Fries are very important to me. They have traditional crinkle cut fries and they always come out piping hot and you get a ton of them! If you have something against crinkle cut fries that sounds like a "you" problem, and if you prefer them more salted add your own. Simple. Please don't change your fries. Let's not forget the sauce! I love their hot bbq sauce and in my opinion there is no competition. Yes, they have odd hours, but wouldn't you if you were able to and wanted to have a life outside of work? Of course they sell out! Because they're that good and all of the locals come running! How dare they not have food just for you when you show up at the end of the day?! Ha! Y'all are wild! We live so close and we FINALLY found a good time to stop by while they were open. 3 of us shared one of their combo plates and we all left with full tummies. Ribs were my favorite! I used to deliver for US Foodservice in KC. So I've been to a lot of BBQ places over the years. This has got to be one of the absolute best BBQ Joints in KC. I ordered the burnt ends sandwich with fries, paid for my food, started filling my drink cup. The young man behind the counter came up apologizing they were out of burnt ends and wanted to know if I wanted something else. I said surprise me. He asked if I liked spicy, I said that I did. Anyways he brought me a sausage/brisket sandwich with a ginormous order of fries & threw in a couple of ribs with my dinner. Wow. I was over the top pleased with my food. Service was also very good. Stopped here after reading many reviews about this place and being in the area. The cashier was a super friendly lady who took my order, a burnt ends dinner which they only offer 3 days a week. It comes with 2 sides so I got french fries and potato salad. Came to nearly $18 with a soft drink. I wouldn't say that's out of the normal range if a dinner like this. Several minutes later I was served. I like to be super honest in my reviews so here goes. There was a huge pile of fries. They weren't really salted properly and were the oil soaked kind that indicates the fryer temp was too low. The potato salad was the dry kind focusing more on the components than the dressing but was pretty tasty. On to the main feature, the meat. As burnt ends go, they were absolutely on point. Was it the kind of food experience that blows your mind? No. But was it damn good food you can eat and feel like it was worth the price you paid? Absolutely. I havent even mentioned the house bbq sauce which was served with the dinner. That is actually really really good. I'd buy a bottle of it to serve with my own bbq if I was cooking. I like trying new places and this was a good experience I'd have no problem telling someone to try themselves. Was it a place I'd absolutely have to go back to again? Not really. Food wise it's a 3.5 which isnt bad that's middle of the road. It gets a 4th because of how clean the place is and how friendly the staff is. All in all I good place to eat and no regrets. read more

Oh my, pork pie!! Do you like Frito Pies? Do you like BBQ? Well, they just had a baby. This is my favorite new BBQ dish in the entire world. They take fritos, add their amazing beans, pulled pork, and top with coleslaw. If you go there and don't order this you're missing out.
