No one answered the phone, email and there was no sign at all saying "we might be back" or "out to lunch". In 2010-2012 I had a storage unit at Pt Richmond Self Storage - and had a very positive experience. Jeff was the manager at that time and always friendly. Renting again in 2022, I had an easy experience getting set up in a new unit. I was shocked when my unit increased in price earlier this year by 20%. 20%! Despite that big jump in cost, I pursued renting another unit for a very complicated move, that was beyond stressful. My experience with the office manager was entirely negative, in such that I decided to terminate that rental unit, before I even moved in, and go elsewhere. Due to the complexities of a massive and sudden move from my home, I wasn't clear which size unit I needed. Combined with health issues and a chemical sensitivity, I was an overall vulnerable place, trying to get my needs met with a clean and chemical free spot, that might also be sheltered from street dust. All this to say, I was having difficulty finding the right fit (size and location within the facility) with the new unit, and asked to switch twice. The manager Bob, was so unfriendly and begrudging and told me that he couldn't refund my payments because his manangment company would be concerned with money laundering, so I needed to pay another application fee and first month to move-in for the changed unit...Anyhow, if you're confused, so was I, and so was Bob. The whole situation cost me $300 of which I have never received their pro-rated refund check of $54. How they calculated $54 on a pro-rated unit which I moved out of on the same day, I still am not clear. Bob has been the middle-man and gatekeeper, refusing to allow me to speak directly to billing, of which he claims he has no control. It's been one of the most disatisfying customer service experiences of my life. So much so, that this is the first time I have bothered to write a review online of ANY business -- good or bad. I'm still waiting on the refund check after calling a few times. Finally today, I called the Cubix Asset management company which appears to own or manage Point Richmond Self Storage. Bob appears to be unwilling to sincerely be helpful. Or may just be ineffective. I'm still not sure. I left a voicemail and sent a text to "Sean Venezia" - the number connected to Cubix. I will see what unfolds in getting my refund. Ugh! read more

I might have given Point Richmond Self Storage a 5-star rating 10 years ago, but the place has absolutely cratered in terms of friendly, helpful service. We've paid somewhere between $60 and $75K in storage fees over the years, and used to be treated like a loyal customer. But I never see staff around the place anymore. Which makes me question how secure my things are. When you see the neighborhood you'll see why this might be a concern. And then I receive an email today with the subject line of "Mass Email Boomer Target". Oh really??? And the offer? $25 credit for referring one of our friends. This is so messed up on so many levels. We are researching storage facilities in better neighborhoods with better rates and more polite and responsive staff. read more

This business has lost a fabulous manager and assistant. I have been at this facility for almost 7 years (in and out) and have spent over $20K in storage fees. Up until a few months ago, I would give them 5 stars. Jeff, the manager, was a wonderful human being, kind and respectful to customers, easy to work with, and always kept the property clean and safe. Trish his assistant was also a wonderful human being to work with. The new manager, Nestor, is completely the opposite (forgetful, defensive, not helpful with no empathy for people who are in stressful situations of moving, life transitions, etc). We used to be able to use the truck to move in to new units. That has changed too. Nestor needs to develop his communication skills and emotional intelligence.. Last week I walked in to the office. Nestor was smoking ganja from behind the desk- no judgement on ganja, but I do believe it affects his memory , communication and emotional intelligence. The facility is still relatively clean, although the maintenance person who has been there for years, has also abruptly left. read more

This place is the BOMB! Nestor, the Manager, Damian, and Stephanie are the BEST! The storage facility is so clean, nice and seemingly new! I wouldn't have thought that a storage facility could be so nice, because in all my previous experiences with renting storage, some facilities have been downright creepy. The process of renting the storage was easy, and they had a special going, which they were happy to inform me about. This made the rental a great deal - and better than any other prices I was quoted from other facilities. If you are in need of storage, and are anywhere in the Berkeley, El Cerrito, or Richmond area, this is the place. Easy to get to as well. Nestor is the new manager here and seriously I can't thank him and his staff enough. He went out of his way to ensure that I would have all of my things secure while I arranged the move. Ive been going through a lot recently, and it's refreshing to have such an understanding man hear you out even in the small things. These guys are awesome! I've been renting here for about a year and try as I may to irritate these guys, they always hold their composure. ;0) Always willing to work with me if I need to move to a larger or smaller unit. Very convenient location, right off the 580. Kind of an industrial area, so not alot of miscreants hanging about. Which makes me feel a lot more comfortable about renting here. Early and late access. They have RATS!! I rented here for five years. Started at 300 for 10x20, they go up all the time, ended paying 424 plus per mo. Now, I had noticed a rat here and there along the property but never inside my unit. I thought well, as long as they maintain it, it should be okay. NOT! By year five my unit was infested with RATS!! They exterminated my unit. More than half my belongings were destroyed. I had to pay a dump truck over 400. which cut into moving cost. The movers did not complete the job. I rented a truck to try to complete the move myself. Upon opening some boxes, I found a complete rat nest. There was feces everywhere and a brown slick residue on most every surface. The smell was horrendous. I salvaged what I could and tried cleaning up the debris. I ended up paying the entire last months rent because the clean up was so extensive. By the end of the month I was physically and mentally drained. I also began feeling ill. I was not about to pay another months rent to clean up a problem that incurred because they did not properly maintain their facility. That was this January 2020, I had given my notice Dec 2019. These people sent me a letter in July stating I owe them for each month and auction fees. Unbelievable. I always paid my rent on time. A model customer. They saw the damages to my unit. The amount I had to throw out. I had to work tirelessly to scrub and disinfect the stuff I could salvage and these people didn't even offer me a last month free. Instead they choose to harass and bleed me for money that they don't deserve. Besides, there is nothing to auction unless they are selling rat feces and trash. read more

You have arrived at a truly wonderful new way of storage. At first you notice how well maintained and new looking everything is but when you see how incredible management treat you then you know you have something of value. Nestor, the current on-site manager, met me for the first time this year when I needed to expand my rental area to include two additional units. Nestor surprised me when he gave me a senior discount on my rentals. Over the past few months when I am there he is always happy to see me. He waves to me when I drive by the office or chats when he is touring the grounds as I work in the units almost daily. This week I met a man carrying some of his belongings and he said he has rented space for 10 years now (he is also10 years older than I am). Certainly this is likely to be my future too at Pt. A fine yelp love story ~ needed a storage unit as my best friend is moving in with me and well, even though we're not terrible, we're still girls :~) Knew the Berkeley ones are expensive, so checked yelp, and found this place and a couple others. Called here first, got an immediate friendly voice named Naomi, who gave me a great deal, and also immediately reserved their free truck for us, with a minimal deposit. (I called a couple other places before I actually reserved, but got answering machines and annoying people).... When we showed up, the truck was indeed available, and Jeff behind the counter was super helpful and friendly. (Consider we used the truck all day, and only paid to reimburse gas. Sure, Uhaul says 1995 a day, but you know it always ends up costing 50 bucks)... *** beyond the actual fantastic customer service and the free truck, their facilities are clean, seem safe, and dry. ***** this was a welcome treat in a hellish day, and i trust it'll continue to be a great experience ******* read more

Pt Richmond Storage is wonderful, very clean, security is excellent, free use of their truck for new customers (which saved me money since I didn't have to rent a truck!), staff are super friendly and the unit I rented was great with easy access. I moved to California from Illinois to attend school and couldn't be there when my movers showed up. Point Richmond Self Storage managed my move-in without a hitch. Everyone there is friendly and helpful, especially Jeff. Once I didn't lock my unit correctly and they made sure I knew about it right away. I worked with them for 10 months without any problems. I would highly recommend this company. You get the first 4 months at a reduced rate and they tell you all the fees up front. If the previous reviewer got an extra month at a lower rate, I don't know why he is complaining. Also they have a moving truck available for free for your first month. Who gives you a free truck rental?? I would definitely use this company again if I have storage needs. read more
