It is a large property with very many lockers of varying size and accessibility. Even the ones with hallway access are quite accessible for most things. You'd only need a locker with direct access if you're storing car or boat etc. The managers are a very nice married couple who have managed the same lot since it opened. I can see they take pride in their service and they are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Signup was easy and efficient. All of my questions were answered completely. Used this facility to store a small amount of stuff on behalf of a family member for a few months. Customer service was excellent even until the very last minute! When I first called for the space I was given specifics on what to do- my questions were answered etc. When I left, same experience! super helpful. I reserved the unit online, all the information was sent to my email and everything was ready for me on site. Using the lock took some maneuvering but It was due to "user" error- fyi- make sure your sliding door is all the way down and make sure the sliding mechanism that holds the lock moves easily back and forth - I noticed it will jam if u don't close it correctly- it's actually a bit of a warning to let you know it's not closed- try again! Storage, grounds and office were immaculate. Very well kept. Place seems pretty secure- entering with passcode was easy- just be cautious of the train and train tracks. Never had any issues, was able to come and go as needed. Saw others using the facility as well. I also used Lugg movers and was able to meet them at the entrance and escort them out since you also need to enter passcode upon leaving. I've had stuff stored wayyyy to long at extra space--5 years at this point. The good: No bugs, no rodents, climate controlled unit, keycard gate and on-site staff (9-5) keeping your stuff safe. I've really had no issues with my stuff being stored there. The bad: They get you in there with a low rate, and then in a few months your rent could as much as double....you often don't know when rent is going up. I started at something like $60/month for a 5x5 unit and ended up paying nearly $130. Also watch out for them charging you for insurance, if your personal insurance "expires" you will start to get a $15/month charge for that. read more

Christine and Andre run Extra space facility on Meeker St. They are friendly and helpful and keep the place super clean. They get 5 stars. The only reason I am leaving is that my rent for a 5x8 storage unit started at 157, when I moved in at the end of November. At the end of January, Extra space notified me that by the end of February, the rent due would be 257. While I expected an increase, as I received a special move in price, 60% seemed excessive after just 3 months. I checked the rates online and the instore price for a 5x10 unit, is $146, and the move in special rate is 70. That is 10 square feet more and almost 75% less than the space and cost of my unit. While these stars go to the well-run facility in honor of the caretakers, Extra Space's lack of appreciation for a regular customer who makes on-time payments is a slap in the face. Made me feel like a chump. I had to move on principle. read more

Two days before Christmas, thieves broke in thru the rear fire gate and for 8 hours proceeded to empty out valuable items from over 70 units, including mine. So much for the on-site manager who never heard the grinders going ALL NIGHT! They have done NOTHING different since then. I obviously moved what little I had left. 5 stars: the manager Christine is lovely and helpful. Plus my storage unit was clean and easy to access. 1 star: the company policy on pricing. I came in with a 'web rate' of $291. 3 months later I get a postcard saying they're increasing it to $389 which is egregious. I called and complained and negotiated a lower increase. 6 months later they came at me with another $100 increase. Happily at that time I was ready to leave Net: a fine place to store your stuff but know that they're going to squeeze you on price. read more

I was initially so thrilled with Extra Space Storage. They were friendly and thorough with my move in, and I became a walking advertisement for them. I told many friends and family members how happy I was with my 5x8 storage unit. When a note came in the mail after just 4 months that there was a rate increase from $105-$133 based on market conditions, I was surprised, but I figured that it was a tolerable increase and still well worth it. When six months later, another postcard came in the mail raising it to $233 per month, which more than DOUBLE the $105 I originally signed up for--again, due to "market conditions", I was shocked. It erodes any trust I had because they seem to be raising rates randomly. In summary: rate hike #1 after 4 months was an increase of 26%. Rate hike after 10 months was an additional 75%, bringing the monthly rate to 221% of the $105 I originally contracted for--to $233. Note that I did not contract for a special deal such as getting the first few months at a reduced rate, and there was nothing bolded in the contract or obvious indicating that the price could *more than double* within less than a year. I trusted that they were a trustworthy, ethical business due to all the 5 star reviews on Yelp. But if you're looking for a reliable, consistent rate for long term storage, look elsewhere. read more

This place is well run and the site managers really bust their backs keeping the whole site immaculately maintained. They are extremely friendly and really take pride in their work. The hours the site is open is also another MAJOR BONUS. The size of the units & accessibility are a major draw. The BIGGEST DRAWBACK about this storage location is that the rental rates on the storage units GO UP, WITHIN SIX MONTHS of renting. This was a fantastic storage space. I just moved out after a year of storing my belongings here and I only have good things to say about this space. It is only about 25 minutes from The Mission in perfect traffic and is right off the freeway (so calculating mileage from U-Haul makes it very easy) and has been a breeze to enter and exit no matter the time. I never encountered any traffic in the storage space, and had the easiest time both setting up my unit and account, and checking out was a single phone call. I highly suggest this place to anyone looking for a place where they want to feel like their stuff is safe and cared for. read more

1. This has to be the cleanest and well taken care of storage business, EVER. 2. I think they are unmatched with the hours you can access your belongings. It's really great. 3. The managers are extremely nice, accommodating and hard workers. 4. The reason for the three star rating is this; the greatest warning I can give you is that you have to REALLY watch your mail when you start renting storage spaces. They can raise your rent, ANY TIME, within 30 days of giving you notice (look for a paper thin, junk-mail-looking 3"x5" USPS mailing ) and there is NO limit on what the increase can be. I just received a 40% increase in the storage rental. 5. If money is no object to you- this place is safe, clean, well lit and convenient to the freeway. read more

I was fine at move in, but got a notice 5 months later that they were raising the rate for my 10x10 storage space. I found alternative storage in Pinole (closer to home, too) at $70/month cheaper with Public Storage. Not sure if it's corporate greed or their thinking I wouldn't inconvenience myself to move out, but it isn't too inconvenient for a savings of $80/mo. Got a call and vcmail from Elsa about a storage unit that opened. When I called back 3 min later she had sold it to someone else. If you call people don't leave a vcmail knowing you will sell the space once you reach someone live. This scenario is a good example of lack of customer service, why have a wait list defeats the purpose. When I pointed this out to her she got defensive and said "oh well." The on site managers Christine and Andre are super friendly and helpful and make sure you're taken care of with whatever you need. They are very good communicators and explain everything clearly. They are visible a lot in case you need to ask them anything or buy any packing supplies, etc. The grounds are very neat and the storage units all seem clean and well maintained. 3 stars for customer service, but I'd give 1 for honesty regarding pricing. I went with the smallest unit @ $85/month. Insurance included for the first, bringing the total to just over $100. Second due date approaches and I check my bank to make sure I'm only charged the $85, and I see nearly $100 deducted. Called & they said the insurance brings it to that much. I didn't bother arguing as I knew they'd give some bs excuse, because nowhere in their "welcome" speech or fine print did it say insurance was monthly, only included in first payment. This defeated the whole purpose of renting their cheapest unit, so I vacated asap. No other storage place I've used has insurance been a monthly charge, or it's optional. From all other reviews I've read on this place, either I'm the only one to say it or no one else minds the fraudulent charge or hasn't noticed. Ugh. But at least I got out before paying a 3rd time. read more
