Poke Crew is one of my go-to spots for a poke bowl. For those who have never had poke, it's basically like a Hawaiian version of Chipotle with raw fish. You can build your own bowl or choose from a signature menu with pre-selected ingredients. They have a large variety of toppings and sauces for every taste palette. It's around ~$15 for a bowl, which is reasonable. They let you choose 2 bases, 2 proteins, 6 toppings, 2 sauces, and 4 garnishes. My favorite signature item is the Philly Bowl. It includes smoked salmon, avocado, cucumber, ginger, red onion, scallion, everything bagel spice, wasabi cream cheese, nori, and ponzu sauce. The fish is fresh and chopped into large chunks. There's a perfect balance of flavors. I also really like their iced tea fruit infusions. They brew their tea onsite and use fresh fruit. It's so refreshing! Awesome poke for the price in my opinion. They give you a pretty good amount of fish and the chunks are huge compared to places in manhattan and Splash (no hate on Splash though). No fishiness on the salmon which I loved. Loved the tamago, shiso, and seaweed salad. Only thing was some of my brown rice was really hard and I hurt my tooth a little because I was eating so fast. Not a fan. There was a preset scallop bowl special noted on a chalkboard away from the the main menu which I decided to try along with extra salmon. I wasn't asked what kind of rice and was given white rice which was fine. The quantity of food was good although that was my expectation as my bowl was close to $20 with the additional protein. The quality of the salmon was good but the bay scallops were really bland and lacked flavor. The sauces that came with my bowl wasn't strong enough to balance out the lack of flavor. A stronger sauce or some varying texture crispy/fried component to balance the bland scallops would have been ideal. I ended up leaving some of the bowl uneaten as a result. How you place an order was a bit confusing. I wasn't really sure where to order as the menu board up top was away from where you actually place your order. As I stood looking at the menu board it was not clearly evident that where you placed your order was somewhere else. The service was really curt but quick once I ordered. "Know what you want?", "Togo?" and "No" was essentially the only words I got from two different employees. I stood for a bit waiting for some acknowledgement before I was able to order. read more

Wanted to give this place a higher review, but unfortunately customer service left us no choice. My wife and I drove to Engelwood to get poke - and were looking forward to this first-time experience. Our server herself was very amicable. I ordered the double dragon bowl, which was really good. My wife ordered the sunshine bowl. Her bowl comes with avocado as one of the components. As this was being made, we noticed the avocado was very oxidized. Being the very first customers of the day, it was clear this was old - so we asked if we could have fresh avocado. Another fellow, who appears to be the manager came over, he proceeded to tell us there is nothing wrong with it. Politely we said, "no - this is oxidized - and it is not fresh." After he tried a second time to somehow convince us we don't understand the basic workings of an avocado, he stopped mid-sentence and aggressively pulled the avocado off - throwing the bad avocado off in the garbage and left the bowl incomplete. He the. THREW the prep bowl down (to the point where it made an abnormally large noise due to the aggressive throwing of the bowl) and walked away - leaving it to his employee to finish the process of completing our order!! It was like watching a grown man throw a temper tantrum... Honestly, we were so stunned by the utter lack of basic professionalism that we just paid for the bowls and left the issue unresolved. We would have left the restaurant, but had driven nearly 40 minutes - bypassing several of poke stores to come to this one because of the positive reviews... How wrong we were. For a restaurant concept which prides itself on freshness of product, this exchange was a poor reflection on this business. Having literally unlocked the door for us to come in at the start of the day, one would assume a modicum of freshness. Even putting a bit of an acid like lemon on would preserve avocados - or cutting this fresh to order. There were so many ways he could have mitigated this issue to make things right. Sadly, either this guy's standards of freshness are extremely low (which concerns me because we also were eating raw fish!) or he needs some very basic training on what fresh produce looks like. Either way, his outburst and utter lack of interest in basic hospitality is distressing. A little bit of basic emotional intelligence and quality control would go a long way here... Maybe they don't need to think about these issues - but I dare say if this type of attitude continues, it won't be long before these doors close. I hope there will be some serious reflection and adjustments of attitude and commitment to keeping things fresh. Hoping someone will be able to chat to this guy. I think the concept is great. Some basic coaching in customer service would be needed if this guy is going to be managing this restaurant. read more

To be fair, my first taste of poke was in Hawaii and unfortunately Poke Crew did not live up to it. First, it was hard to find a bowl that didn't have anything sweet or mayo based in it's description. I decided on Futo Poke but to my surprise the pickled ginger was sweet. I love desserts but cannot deal with sweets in my food. Tuna was very fresh and rice properly made. I may have to customize my bowl for next visit. I had the iced oolong tea minus the fruit preserve for fear of oversweetness. The tea was delicious but $4 is a bit overpriced. So excited to finally see a poke spot open up in North Jersey! This sleek and modern fast casual restaurant serves up different spin-offs of the delicious and trendy poke bowl, which is the popular Japanese Hawaiian fusion dish taking NYC by storm. I stopped by for dinner on Grand Opening day and was impressed with how smooth and seamless the service was for Day 1. The menu offers several signature bowls (with some intriguing/innovative options like "El Taco" and the "Philly") and custom make-your-own poke bowls. For those who don't prefer raw fish, they also have tofu, crab salad, chicken, and unagi bowls, which all looked like fantastic alternatives. I ordered The Crew, which is a rice bowl topped with tuna chunks, fish roe, pineapple bites, crispy fried onions, cashews, rice cracker puffs, jalapeno, and a light wasabi mayo and teriyaki sauce. The balance of flavors in this dish (with the sweet pineapple and subtle spiciness of the jalapeno and wasabi mayo) were perfect, and I LOVED the different textures in this dish. The fish tasted very fresh with top notch quality. I also tried a few bites of the Skuna Bay, which tasted lighter with a soy sauce base but was still packed with flavor. This one is probably a little closer to what I think of as a "traditional" poke bowl. Service overall was professional, accommodating, and quick. Favorite Dish(es): The owner recommended The Crew or Skuna Bay. I had the opportunity to try both. I personally liked The Crew better, but since I enjoy salmon more than tuna, next time I'll probably swap the tuna out for the salmon. Interior Design / Cleanliness: The interior design is slightly modern and overall the place was pretty clean. One thing I would like to note is that due to store renovation, we had to enter through a shared side door which was slightly unpleasant and had a weird odor. Parking: There's plenty of places to park on the street and since I went on a Sunday, it was free. The street is busy so I recommend parking outside of the store on the other side of the train tracks. Last Remarks: I almost swapped out the wasabi mayo for gochujang because I'm not a fan of wasabi, but I'm so glad that the owner stopped me and told me to try it with the premade as it would create a nice flavor profile. Half a dozen visits later, an update: Skuna bay bowl is fillin' and feelin'. My favorite thus far! It was exactly what I was looking for. Fresh chunks of glistening salmon perfectly paired with the robust zing from ikura (salmon roe), tasty seaweed salad, punchy ginger, umami edamame & hijiki, oh-so-delicate chopped shiso leaves dressed in subtle wasabi yuzu dressing. For those who may not know shiso, it looks like a miniature perilla leaves (Korean "kkaetnnip" - plz stop saying 'sesame leaves' cuz they ain't! ) because they belong to the perilla plant family and so shares that strong fragrant taste, except shiso packs more punch than its larger cousin. This works really well with umami Japanese cuisine of many kinds, and it works wonders here. Ok, that was my brief homage to shiso. Some who don't like strong fragrant greens might take note and adjust accordingly. Now that I know both chefs Yong and Titus, they took note of my review and request for more traditional Hawaiian poke (tuna + shoyu) and Titus told me yesterday that they will be introducing it soon. Rejoice, traditionalists! Their premise is always impeccably clean and inviting, business is happening (they're hiring), and the staff always friendly and helpful. So whatcha waiting for? Poke Crew is the first poke shop that I've heard of in the area. Their counter is reminiscent of a Chipotle style place with ingredients being added is you move down the line. You can choose one of their predetermined bowls or make one of your own. I opted for the "Double Dragon", a bowl with a mix of salmon and tuna. They have a bunch of different ingredients for your bowl and all the ones that were in mine tasted fresh. The bowl was a decent size and the food was just enough to satisfy me without making me feel like I'd explode. My only complaint is it's a bit pricey at about $13+ for just a bowl. You're easily looking at $15 if you want a drink too. That being said, the price is on par with other poke spots I've been to so I won't knock them too hard for it. Long story short: the food was very good (albeit pricey) so I'd probably only come back on rare occasions. If you're a fan of sushi or sashimi, this is a great way to get your fix of fresh fish. read more

Tried Poke Crew for the first time last night as my 17 yr old daughter urged me to give it a shot. Never really heard of Poke b4. What a nice and unique meal it was! I had a double protein with salmon and tuna with brown rice that was generous, fresh and really good. The overall bowl was delicious and tasty. Fish tasted fresh and the sauce gave the rice good flavor. I do think the price is on the high side. It's $14 without add-ons, which is even higher than some poke places in Manhattan. I liked the Chashu bowl as well. The pork looked dry, but it was actually pretty tender and had just the right amount of fat on it. Overall, I think the food is pretty good. It's hard to find good Poke in the area, but Poke Crew fills the void! The food has always been fresh and there are plenty of options to choose from. We've always gone in and ordered in person and service has been quick. When they are busy the workers can sometimes be a little distracted but we like going in person to make sure they get any customizations correct. Poke Crew offers a very broad range of proteins, toppings and sauces. They also allow you a good amount of each, like 2 proteins, 5 toppings and I think 2 sauces. This allows you to really get a solid amount of textures and flavors in your bowl. Portion sizes are perfect for the price, really filling for a great price. They also offer pre built bowls, I haven't tried any but based on my build your own experience I would say you can't go wrong. In terms of covid situation workers have always been wearing a mask and they enforce patrons to wear a mask as well. It's never been overly crowded inside, maybe one or two people ordering and the occasional delivery driver coming in to pick up. Right now you can't eat inside but theres plenty of street parking you can park and eat. The food also holds up well if you are going to take home to eat. I absolutely love Poke Crew. I was seriously craving poke two weeks ago after my friend implanted the idea in my head. There aren't many poke places in North Jersey either. When I saw their menu I just had to go. I went twice in these two weeks. Both times I drove during rush hour to get it. I didn't mind because it is worth it. I customized my own poke bowl each time. I appreciate that they use laminated check lists and dry erase markers for ordering so that paper is not being wasted. The portions are amazing. I probably could appreciate options of a smaller size too. The main thing for me though is that I love the fresh ingredients. I got salmon both times and it has not disappointment. Everything mixed together is very well-proportioned. I didn't feel like I had too much rice, too much other ingredients, or too much sauce. New kid in town and definitely a great one to say! There's not many poké places in New Jersey for some reason...all of my experiences have been in Manhattan so far. I have tried the OG before so I held high standards to this type of cuisine haha. First off, the decoration is on point. It give off both a clean-wooden and modern vibes with a touch of Hawaiian. They leave a lot of spaces for customers to simply grab n go, especially during the lunch hours. I could imagine that daily lunch rush hour just like most poké places. Nevertheless, you can also enjoy a bowl there because there's plenty of bar seats. The two main factors that outshined a lot of places are: the Freshness of the fish and the Portion. These two items are their major pros. I look for big, fresh chunks of tuna and salmon because that should be the center of the meal, and not soaked into a sea of lettuce and sauces - a lot of poké tend to have that problem. The bowls are filled up with good amount of fish and other ingredients. Recommendation: try all the chef's signature bowls before you make your own bowl first. Chic new corner spot for fantastic and fresh poke bowls in North Jersey! The 10 preset bowls are thoughtfully curated and come with a signature flavour to distinguish them from one another (and from any other restaurants serving poke). The juicy salmon sashimi chunks are elevated by the wasabi yuzu soy sauce in the Skuna Bay bowl, while the crunchy shallots and crispy taco bits were a fun way to infuse Mexican flavours into Japanese Hawaiian fusion. There are actually a few choices that use all-cooked ingredients - make sure to ask the chefs if you don't prefer raw fish! I particularly love the tea bar next to the checkout. The big glass containers show off the colours of the tea, and they become a refreshing treat after being hand-shaken with ice and fruits.
