I had been to Poke King a few times when they had first opened, and again recently this week. They offer regular or large poke bowls, with 3 scoops of protein, or 5 scoops of protein, respectively. You choose a base; either white/brown rice, mixed greens, or wonton chips. Then you choose your proteins, and finally, sauces and toppings. The price of a regular bowl does put you at about $11, and I'm not sure the actual portions of food they give justifies the prices. Despite this, I still find that they have a decent amount of proteins, sauces, and toppings to choose from. Overall, it is still quite delicious. They had recently posted additional toppings and sauces they started serving, on a separate board near the ordering station. Among these additional toppings is spicy tuna, which I was delighted to see now as an option for my poke bowls. I usually frequent the salmon, yellow tail, and tuna options, but they also serve octopus and shrimp as well. The staff is really friendly, and the overall interior of the restaurant is designed well, but the amount of space itself is limited. There is only a few options for seating, which is between a couple of two-person tables, a high table running along the far wall near the entrance, and a couple of long tables that run perpendicular inside the restaurant. There is no outside seating. Furthermore, just a small station is set inside that houses napkins, straws, utensils, etc. I like that they stay open til 9PM, and that they have a rewards program you can sign up for. You can redeem points you earn on your purchases for items like a free macaron ice cream sandwich. For being the first Pokè shop in Reno, very impressed. I try to limit myself once a month , but only because of money saving morals. You get what you pay for , meaning you pay about $15-$17 for only one person,but will not be disappointment with your decision at the end (unless you're someone who's very picky and sensitive to your food choices) $15 for a large pokè bowl , 5 scoops of protein, whatever choice of sauce and toppings. I always get salmon and tuna, with the spicy mayo, with white rice, seaweed salad, the crab salad, cucumber, etc and the reason why I love this place, is the fact that they pile it all on for me and give massive portions . $17 total? Worth it to me. In fact, every time I do get a Pokè bowl here , I never finish it due to the bowl being so packed and filling. Here it is my 100th review on Yelp! So I have been here twice. Fast and friendly service, even when there is a line. Very nice workers each time I have come. I think the cashier is starting to recognize me. 1. You pick your bowl size. Regular has three scoops of base and three scoops of your protein and large has five of each. You can mix and match both your base and protein. Last time I did a regular bowl with 2 parts won ton chips and 1 scoop of brown rice. For my protein I did 3 scoops of tuna. 2. Next add your sauces. I usually do the truffle ponzu and spicy mayo. You can also add a few odds and ends. This is all mixed up and placed on your base. 3. Add whatever toppings. I usually do the fake crab salad, seaweed salad, ginger and cilantro. You can add everything you want, but avocado is $1.00 extra. 4. Pay. Sign up for their loyalty club. I am not sure how many points you need, but I was told I was close to a free ice cream. I will let my point accumulate for a free bowl, I think that is an option. 5. There is not a lot of indoor seating. I think there is actually more seating outside. To the owner: cut up the cilantro. It is currently given out with 3-4 leaves on a stem. This is awkward and requires me to pick them out of my food, to tear up the cilantro with my fingers to re add it to my bowl. Yes, it is pricey. For two regular bowls, without drinks, it was 29.00 after tax and tip. Just FYI, they haven't gotten their beer license yet so don't get your heart set on a beer to wash down your bowl. Next the seating is really tight with two large indoor tables and one small table that seats three. So since this place has opened (3 weeks), I've made several visits to the point where they've recognized me as a VIP. Who knew!? So at this point I feel like I can give a pretty adequate review of this place. I love everything about the atmosphere of this little spot. It's very hip and welcoming. But if you're visiting during peak times (lunch/dinner) the lines will be long and there may not be a place for you to sit and eat but don't you worry! The wait is worth it and you can always take your food togo and it still tastes amazing! If you want a spicy kick to your bowl, I'd recommend the creamy miso + mango habanero. (Secret menu??? Maybe.. But I'm a big fan). If you're looking to add some greens into your diet I highly recommend getting the combination of rice and mixed greens! Overall, I dig this place. The people that work there are always super energetic and fun. They're very patient and informative so don't be afraid to ask them any questions. I always do two scoops of the salmon and one scoop of tuna. They also have a spicy tuna option if you'd like a little kick to it. Their fish always tastes fresh, I've never had any issues with it. Now it's time to decide what sauce to get. I ALWAYS order unagi and spicy mayo with green onions. They mix it all up with your protein then they add it on top of the rice. Last but not least, add your toppings!! I get cucumber, crab salad, sesame seed, then top it off with more spicy mayo. I love that they don't charge you extra for toppings like other places. I usually go with a regular bowl with white rice and scoops of tuna, salmon, and shrimp. Sometimes I'll change it up with a scoop of yellowtail. For the sauce, I ask them to mix the spicy mayo with the shoyu. And for toppings, I like the edamame, ginger, cucumber slices, and a little bit of crab salad. Sometimes I'll add sesame seeds or get the seaweed salad (although I don't like how it always gets stuck between my teeth). The food has always tasted fresh, and service is quick and friendly. The moment a friend posted about this place, I went to try it out. I hadn't heard of it opening (I've been waiting for a place in Midtown) so I was pleasantly surprised that one was already open here! The seating area is a little small but we were getting our food to go, so we weren't too worried. They have a nice selection of bases, proteins, and a lot of amazing toppings. I wish they had mango- my first ever poke bowl had mango and since then I haven't found another place to offer that as a topping. Maybe soon? The regular is a great one person size, especially if you get rice, because they really load on the toppings (especially the crab and sealed salads). Three scoops of fish is also great and a deceptively small amount- it's super filling! My fiancee and I will probably share a large in the near future. My bowl had a split base of white rice and wanton chips, and I got salmon, tuna, and yellow tail, with their sesame shoyu and truffle sauces, and for topping I got: seaweed and crab salad, tobiko, cucumber, furikake, and sesame seed. I'm still trying to finish this bowl as I type, haha! The flavors are all really good, and I'm excited to try their creamy miso sauce in the future. There is some outdoor seating, but they'll need to add more inside tables before winter hits! I loved what I had: I did white rice + wonton chips, shrimp, crab, edamame, green onion, jalapeño and cilantro. Pretty basic. I also did three sauces. The spicy mayo sauce has a good kick which I appreciated. My only complaint is that they need to chop the veggies better. The Cilantro and jalapeño were too big. They had a few main protein options, but most were raw fish which isn't my favorite! Overall it is sort of costly, at $11 per bowl or $14 for a large bowl. My total was $16 for a regular bowl, soda and tip. If you compare that to AYCE sushi in Reno, it doesn't seem thaaaat worth it. But! I was very full from my Bowl! All the other poke places I've been charge extra for additional toppings or give you barely enough to cover your fish. Not Poke King! Best poke in Reno IMO. They have a pretty good selection of fish, but what blew me out of the water were their topping selections. So many options to customize and add flavor to your poke! It is a little expensive (a large was $14-15, medium $13-14), but for what we have to work with in Reno concerning poke, it's worth it. It's a huge serving as well. Definitely try the wonton chips. ordered 1/2 rice and 1/2 greens for my base, received all rice of which was very crunchy, when I told the employee that the rice wasn't cooked she just shrugged and said it was probably dried out and offered me a side of rice. I then told her I didn't order all rice but got all rice they offered me no other solution, the poke bowl was ruined with the uncooked/dried out rice.....waste of money and very poor customer service!!!!! So so so good. An amazing addition to Reno. Currently be prepared for it to be busy because they just opened up a few weeks ago. The fish is great and they have a good variety of toppings. The portions are pretty decent and reasonably priced. Anytime I'm in the northwest for dinner I stop here now. read more
