Very disappointed in the food & the delivery. Firstly, the order was running late and kept saying it was on its way, it never said it was delivered. I happened to look outside my door and my food was sitting there, without notice. I have no idea how long it had been out there. I was so ravenously hungry I just dug in. Well the food had no flavor, the salmon and tuna were warm, which may have been from the rice, but the way it was layered did not bode well for the dish. The rice was mushy and the sauce was completely absorbed by the rice that I couldn't eat it, hence no flavor for the rest of the components. The only good thing in the dish was the ginger and crab. This was so completely overdue and now they're here! So happy and excited and they delivered big time! We made a few early visits and found they weren't open just yet but today (Friday) they were getting it. Only slightly disappointed, they don't have the local brew offerings just yet, they do have all the poké and that's all the reason to be here. It's a build your own, deli style set up and that's cool enough. A generous offering of ingredients, including some raw and fried ingredients, which offers the nice texture contrast I really enjoyed. They have tuna, hamachi, salmon, tako, and a few other decadent proteins, and you can mix and match them for a kitchen sink kind of experience. I went simple and stuck with tuna as a base line and was so gratefully palette happy mouth wateringly happy; so good! If I had a gripe (and I guess this is one; okay, not a gripe, but a suggestion), aside from the buffet, I'd love to see some staple offerings on the menu, i.e. The House Poké, The Blend, etc. I'll reiterate this would just simplify ordering but is not a takeaway because this was amazing! I'm so happy and excited this is finally trending, relevant, and happening in our home town! Disclaimer: I don't like sushi! So I decided to be adventurous today and try out a new spot in town that makes Poké bowls. In my bowl I have: White Rice & Wonton Chips Tuna, Shrimp, and Octopus (all raw) Spicy Mayo, Green Onion, cucumber, edamame, crab (imitation), and ginger All topped with toasted sesame seeds, and fried onion and garlic flakes. I love their wasabi yuzu sauce, and I have found little to compare to it at other poke places. It is well balanced with sweetness and savory. The salmon cubes seem to be getting smaller and smaller every time I come in, averaging about half inch side cubes, with some pieces slightly larger and some slightly smaller! A comment on customer service: There was a small, blue haired asian girl that rushed through my order, causing me to repeat myself, even when I was the only one in the place. Speed does not mean you are providing the best service possible, especially when you make an error and there is no reason to be rushing. I think better communication with the person working on the register is also warranted, since answering questions about drinks or rewards is particularly challenging when you're also being asked about your bowl order. A suggestion: when someone orders half rice and half mixed greens, consider putting the rice on the bottom to separate the raw fish from the hot rice. I understand that it's easier to put the greens on bottom and smash the rice on top to keep it in place but putting the rice on the bottom helps keep the fish fresh instead of cooking on the ride home. Overall, a bit dissatisfied with this trip but not enough to deter me yet! read more

So many things went wrong today. I've been coming here since it first opened and big fan. Not any more. I realize times are tough but please don't let quality and service go down. A regular poke bowl has increased $5 over the years and size has decreased. First no mixed greens available for base - "ran out" at 12:45 lunch time on a Friday. Poor planning to say the least. So I ordered half brown rice and half chips. Asked for heavy on seaweed as a topping since there was no mixed greens. Got a tiny scoop. Everything else was as little bit as they could get away with. 2nd order was chips for base, crab only for protein. Well they try to give us one little box of chips for both orders and when we asked for more they tried to charge an extra dollar for chips. Then she rang up the crab bowl at $17.95 when it's suppose to be $12.95. Fortunately we were paying attention. Even had to ask for more sauce because I couldn't taste it. Hated leaving a $3 tip for surly attitude and overcharging attempts and chintzy servings. Probably won't be back in a long time. Is management trying to cut back? I absolutely LOVE Poke King. They're the first place I've ever gone to for poke a couple years ago and I still go there every couple weeks easily. All their ingredients are always fresh and crisp and the fish is never "fishy." They are not stingy on their toppings and I love that they do not charge you for extra when you ask. This place was awesome! They have a fun variety of bases, protein, and toppings and I feel like I definitely paid less and got more than other poke places I've tried. I love the option to mix and match bases and that their brown rice does not have a surcharge. Though I only ordered tofu, their selection of fish was quite diverse. I was able to pick as many toppings as I wanted and they gave me a hearty scoop of all of them! This bowl was seriously packed full and I really enjoyed it. The staff were very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable, and upon checkout they offered to let me join their free loyalty program. Good food, good price, hearty helpings- I'm a fan! I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. I've heard great things and the pictures looked amazing. I was finally able to try it and I was super disappointed in the quality. The portions are pretty decent, and the fish seemed fresh enough. The rice is what did it for me. It was both watery and mushy and lacked the proper seasoning? I figured they'd add some sort of vinegar or seasoning but it was bland. I wouldn't have minded that as much if it had been cooked and handled properly. I don't think I would recommend this place to others, but if you're in the area you should definitely check it out for yourselves. They have some neat toppings and desserts (which I was unable to try since they were sold out). Still a great idea, just poorly executed. Finbomb is a few dollars more but the quality is better. First and foremost, everyone on the staff showed exemplary customer service. Your greeted at the door and upon your exit. All were friendly and engaging. For any first timers, they spoke with them with respect and not disregard them as novices or incompetent. That goes a long way in the business. They enjoy what they do, and you can tell by their interaction with the customers. As there were several sauces to choose from, the gentlemen offered up samples of each one and made recommendations on what their personal favorite is. Each flavor offered up a unique profile to compliment the bowl of my choosing. With an array of proteins and toppings, you can't go wrong. Fish was fresh and texture perfect. All the toppings were harmoniously complimenting one another atop a perfectly cooked batch of steamed white rice with my choice of two sauces intermingling with a nice heat element on the back end of each bite. The wonton chips offered great crunch and flavor. For dessert, of course an iced cream coffee macron fit the bill. The cookee not overly sweet like some macrons can be, nice crunch with a perfectly chewy element before biting into the iced cream which balances out the flavor. Whenever I am on the northwest side of town, I always stop at Poke King. I love the Aloha vibe, when I come into the store and the portions are huge! I get a regular bowl, but I usually can only eat half because they load it up. Everything has always tasted really fresh and the fish is firm. I have had some Poke bowls from other stores, but sometimes the fish is a little soft so you know it isn't that fresh. Poke Bowl combination of sauces and toppings are great and I think the surimi they use is really good tasting. This usually satisfies my craving too for sushi. I don't like going to all you can eat, because I usually overstuff myself and then feel guilty for the calories I really didn't need. These bowls you can make healthy with brown rice and greens with the protein. Idk man, their poke building has lacked... effort. We DoorDashed them this time, so we were kinda upset when opening the box. Usually they'd mix your protein and sauce together, but this time they placed the protein in, squirted the sauce into the box, then laid the masago on top. All the sauce pooled at the bottom. I also found more than 1 type of protein that I didn't order, so some of the meats must have fallen into the other meat containers from previous scooping. Also found a couple different toppings, like pineapple and edamame that I didn't order, likely from falling into other topping containers during scooping. Nothing could be better. I repeat, nothing. Poke swooped in and is the new rad concept in Reno. Their friendly staff steps you through the easy five step process. Here is the run down: 1. Pick a size: small or large. (The difference is how many scoops of fish you would like. A small bowl has three scoops and a large bowl has five. ) 2. Pick a bases: white or brown rice, mixed greens, wonton chips or mix and match. (I personally like to mix and match. I enjoy the wonton chips on the side to scoop up my bowl.) 3. Pick your proteins: Salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, octopus, tofu, yellowtail, ect. 4. Pick your sauces: There are about 5 sauces to choose from and you can choose more than one. 5. Pike your toppings: So much to choose from. Get crazy because you can add as many as you want. (Avocado is the only one that is $1 extra.) Make sure to sign up for the rewards system. Poke king is a great addition to the Reno food scene, but the overall price of each poke bowl and slight concerns prevent it from achieving the coveted 5 stars. Located in what used to be Crepe N Roll, I've been waiting to see what would open there when the crepe shop closed down. When I heard it was a poke place, i was ecstatic. Poke in Reno? That's completely unheard of. But I also knew that this is somewhat bad. Since they'll be one of the only poke place in town, that means they can set their prices as high as they want, and that's exactly what they did. A regular sized bowl runs you about $11 and a large bowl $16. These prices are comparable to SoCal, but without the quantity. As for quality, the fish is fresh. I haven't had any bad experiences with any of the proteins on any of the times I've gone (5 times). All of the sauces are great. You can mix and match! I recommend the sesame shoyu and the spicy mayo together! The toppings are basically endless, because you can ask for as much and as many as you want. You can get as much seaweed salad and crab salad! But the bases can be iffy. I've had a couple of instances where the rice was both crunchy and mushy, and I'm not the only one. On top of that, the salad greens are just the boxed greens you can get from Walmart. The service here is both fast and friendly! Even though they maybe rushed/busy (especially during lunch), they take their time to ask you how you're doing. I really appreciate this kind of service. Gabe is especially great! The atmosphere / environment here is very casual and chill. There aren't that many times inside (two big picnic tables, two tables that seat two, and a stool area that seats four). But there are several tables outside. Although it is a small space, many people go in and out, especially during peak hours. Plan to wait at least 15min if the line is right at the door. Other than that, the restaurant is minimalistic. There's nothing too crazy or bougie about the decor, which is good! They do have a loyalty program, which is pretty cool! All you need to do is give them your phone number and you're all signed up. The program is pretty simple. Spend $1 and you get 1point. Once you reach 50points, you can get a free ice cream sandwich. 150points equal a free regular bowl! Overall, the poke at Poke King is the best I've had in Reno. A regular bowl (3 proteins) gets me at a comfortable full, especially with the "unlimited" toppings that I can get. And the loyalty program and the staff just make it even better! I just wish the rice was more consistent and the price isn't that high. I would gladly pay $8/$9 for poke, but $11 just seems a little too much. I could just pay six more dollars to get AYCE sushi across the street. But again, I get it from a business standpoint. I would still go back, and I would definitely recommend it if you haven't gone. But I just don't think it'll be one of my go-to restaurants in town. read more
