I was craving poke and saw a post on Reddit about the best spots in the East Bay. Since I work in Alameda, someone mentioned Poke Koma and I realized I had walked by a few times but never tried it. I'm glad I finally did. The shop is on Park Street and parking can be a little tricky, especially at lunch. I went around 1 pm and it was packed with high school students grabbing food, so next time I'll try coming at an off hour. I ordered half salad and half rice with two scoops of ahi tuna and one scoop of spicy tuna with spicy sauce. I added all the toppings except wasabi. The bowl was excellent. The tuna tasted fresh, not stringy or off like I've had at other places. The spice level was just right with a little kick but not overwhelming. Not the Best First Time (3/5) It was my first time here, and it likely won't be my last since it's the nearest DIY poke bowl spot to me. It was a cute place. The ambiance was minimal and chill, and the workers were nice. For my first visit, I ordered the Regular Bowl with Sushi Rice, Hamachi, and Salmon. I added seaweed salad, crab salad, green onions, and Tamago. Unfortunately, the poke bowl was served hot. I'm used to sushi rice being at room temperature or slightly cooled, not hot and fresh from the rice pot. This was disappointing as it started to cook my raw fish and tamago. The portion size was adequate, but I didn't feel it was worth the price. Perhaps I didn't design my bowl well or maximize the toppings combination to create a better bowl. Poke was pretty good here. They give a lot of content to the bowls, so it doesn't really feel like they skimp out on you too much. I like that this place offers wonton chips on top of the other toppings they have. Their poke meat is also sliced fairly large which is kind of nice. The only thing I didn't really care about was their musubi. I saw a review saying how good it was, but my opinion differs. I ordered the pork belly musubi and the spam & egg musubi. Since Catholics go pescatarian or fast on Ash Wednesday, we decided to grab a quick bite before going to the celebration of such holiday. The bowl is quite large for a regular, quality products and selection. Quite enjoyed the poke bowl. Some other time I should probably return for their other products, boba tea, musubis and katsu plates. I've been coming here for yearsssssss, BUT I think this year it may come to an end, sadly. :( :( The price has gone up SOOO much, I got a lion king bake and takoyaki and paid $28. The food is delicious, I like the takoyaki when it's fresh, rather than the ones that have been sogging away in the containers. You can request in fresh ones if you are willing to wait 10-15 minutes. I wish they post the price instead of just having the sheet out front. Parking can be difficult, its on the main street, which is Park street, that's busy. read more

They offer two sizes of bowls - regular with three proteins, or large with five proteins. The staff is always nice. They are open throughout the day, none of that annoying mid-day closure that most sushi places in the area do. The place can get crowded when the kids from nearby Alameda High School get out for lunch. Why did yelp remove my review?????? I was a paying customer!!!!! My receipt is in the photo! On Sunday my family and I leave to see our nephew play ball. We arrive early and head to Poke Koma in Alameda for snacks. We walk in and I head to the claw machine, my kids run over to grab snacks, my husband ask a worker to exchange money for tokens. We head over to the cashier to pay. We pay. Then the cashier says to my husband "you were the biggest a**hole in Chinese school" in shock I replied "excuse me whatever issues you had with my husband you can do that somewhere else my kids are here" she replies "they should hear it, never come here again" extremely upset we leave. That night we receive an email through the receipt we paid. Yes I replied. At the store she calls my husband an a**hole, in the email she's uses the word bully. My son who is in elementary is learning what the true meaning of bully means. When I think back to grade school there were def people in class that I did not care for but did they bully me? No! I'm sure there were people in my class that did not care for me as well. If someone approached me now and told me something I did back in grade school hurt them I will apologize 100%. I was just a kid then and did not know any better. I still make mistakes till this day. It's how we learn. My daughter comes home and tells me sometimes kids are being disruptive in class and she probably doesn't care for them as well. But are they bullies? No! She's a complete stranger to us. I visited Pole Koma on Vets Day and I was so impressed! I order the regular size with 3 proteins that consists of spicy ahi, ahi and octopus with salad greens with all the toppings and i must say it did not disappoint! The temperature of the fish was on point and the tako was not chewy but good sized chunky bites that were oh so fresh i couldn't rest my chopsticks to take a break! The young man at the counter was polite and let me know what dressings were popular so I tried the aioli, ponzu and a sriracha mayo blend which complemented each bite. Definitely worth checking out as they also serve beer and hot snacks like musubi's. It's been an awesome memorable experience for me that I cannot wait to enjoy again! i've ordered here multiple times for lunch as i work down the street. the price and quality is good for the amount you get and the location. the only thing that concerns me is that if you order online, they'll make your order as soon as it comes in, even if the order is scheduled for later or the ETA on the ordering site says later than ASAP. it wouldn't be so much of a problem if they had them refrigerated, but they sit in bags to the side of the counter. just a heads up if you order in advance and don't have time to pick it up ASAP. read more

I haven't had poke since I graduated college so I came here to fulfill that craving. First, it's in a convenient location near my fiancé's barber so we can easily come here every time he gets a hair cut! But also, there's a lot of options to choose from, whether it's the fish, sauces, or sides. I'm pretty boring and just love salmon so that's what I had but the poke bowl I had was delicious and flavorful. I did find it a hard to order through their glass (or maybe plastic?) wall because the person serving me couldn't hear me very well and accidentally put in the wrong topping, but I was happy with the food overall so I didn't mind too much. We were on a nice weathered weekend walk and came across this cute little hidden gem in my boyfriend's hometown, Alameda. Poke Koma has super fresh ingredients being served. I was skeptical because they leave the seafood out fresh in the open without a covering. But their following is so high, that the fish doesn't stay out for long without being served after being newly sliced. The servers were all youngish perhaps in college but very nice and generous with their portions. We spent $23 (including tip) on a large poke bowl (6 proteins) in a split bowl as I don't like some of the raw fish my partner likes. It was such good quality ingredients. We got double salmon in one bowl with roasted garlic miso and teriyaki sauce mixed. Toppings I added were creepy wontons, fried garlic, green onions, and sesame seeds. The second half of the large bowl included shrimp, tuna, yellowtail, and scallops with roasted garlic aioli and teriyaki. Our base sides were seaweed salad, avocado, sushi ginger, and sushi rice. The bathroom was decently clean and average but wide and spacious. Overall, for the price, quality, quantity, and various arrangement of menu items, I'd definitely be back to get me some poke here. P.S. They also sell musubi, breakfast plates and sandwiches, onigiris, and Hawaiian shaved ice. This review is only only only for the shaved ice. I was in Hawaii in January and had Hawaiian shaved ice. I have been obsessed to find it here ever since. It's not the staffs fault. But if you are going to advertise that you have shaved ice, please make sure that your machine is for shaved ice not a snow cone The flavors were nice. The texture was not so nice. To me, most poke spots are all similar, but Poke Koma stood out among all the other poke restaurants. I came by for a quick dinner Sunday night at 7 pm with 2 other friends. They're known for their poke, but offer some snacks such as musubi and dessert such as Hawaiian shaved ice and milk teas as well. What makes them stand out: -they have a better protein selection than most poke places -you don't have to pay extra for avocado or crab salad!! -they offer crab chips (i.e. shrimp chips) as a base in addition to rice and greens Seating is casual with a couple tables, but I think it's primarily a takeout spot since we were the only ones dining in for the hour we were there. Ordering is very straightforward, you can just follow their step by step signs. I went with a regular bowl with half crab chips and half rice ($15), which includes 3 scoops of protein. I got two scoops of salmon and one scoop of scallops with the mild sauce and a number of toppings. I really enjoyed my poke bowl. It was fun to scoop everything into the crab chips and eat it bite by bite. I did think they could've given more rice. I'm very familiar with where this store's location is, and there isn't much parking around. It's a very busy area with all sorts of other restaurants and stores that makes parking a little harder. I went to pick up my food to go so I can't speak to the experience of eating there. The server that help me was really nice; the store was pretty quiet around dinner time compare to other restaurants in the area. The bowls are about $16 for a regular and you get 3 protein options which I think is very generous. Most places offer only 2. My girlfriend only wanted salmon so she got a nice helping of that with sushi rice. I went for salmon, ahi tuna and scallops with a mix of brown rice and spring mix. I found a lot of rice and not so much of the spring mix. The protein chunks tastes really fresh and cut into cubes. I do love that I can add on all of the toppings I want with no extra charge, sauce and all. If you get a large, you can pick 5 proteins. Good solid poke where none of it tastes fishy. I liked the scallops best. We also ordered gyoza, popcorn chicken, and a pork belly masubi. The gyoza and pork belly masubi was underwhelming. Gyoza honestly tasted like it was frozen and then popped in the pan for a few seconds. It was like warm and soggy. I do understand that it was packed to go so I did keep that in mind. The pork belly looked delicious but barely had any flavor to it. Every bite of the masubi was like 90% rice and 10% meat. It was a LOT of rice. The popcorn chicken was the most flavorful. Again, keeping in mind that we bought everything to go, it wasn't as crunchy. But the flavor was there and it was good. We finished the popcorn chicken before we even started our poke bowls. A very average place. The price with the amount of options and amount in general you get is pretty good. I love that they don't charge extra for a lot of little things and you can basically have a big bowl of fish and sides all mixed together. The rest of the things were average. The ambiance is okay here, a typical lunch spot. I ordered a chicken katsu onigiri and my friend ordered a bowl. They were fine but the issue was with the boba. I let the person at the register know that I had a dairy allergy, and even milk derivatives will get me sick. They repeated that the creamer is dairy free. Less than 10 minutes after leaving, me and my friend got sick. I get hives and have a really bad reaction, while my friend had an upset stomach. The onigiri however was disappointing :( I got the spicy California onigiri and since they pre-make them and wrap them in foil, as opposed to onigiri wrappers, the nori gets soft, so if you're looking for that crunchy nori, typical of a traditional onigiri, you won't find it here. Also, there was barely any filling at all, hardly any crab, most of the inside was empty, so you're mostly eating rice the whole time. After sitting on the toilet for 2 hours with my legs shaking while gripping the wall with sweat dripping down my face I'm done !! Never again am I going to this place !! Mixed review... 5 stars for food and 1 star for service. Food was delicious. We both had poke bowls and we tried the spicy California onigiri and the spam musubi. The food was fresh and plenty of options for the bowl. Also, we both had large bowls and took half of it to go. The place is clean and with plenty of tables to sit. Service was awful... we were there on 8/12 around 3pm. This review excludes the new kid that was being trained. The other two were rude, rushed us through our order, at one point they even tried telling my husband that he couldn't stand by me and to get back in line. The young lady kept on rolling her eyes anytime we asked a question or said anything. They made our experience very uncomfortable and unpleasant. One of the underrated secrets to a good poke bowl is the sauce, you must choose wisely!!! A lot of the times, the names of the sauces doesn't do it justice, so I asked the person making my poke bowl for more info which really helps. This is the first poke place that I saw scallops as an option on the menu. The scallops, salmon, and tuna all were very fresh. They had all the poke topping options here. My first poke bowl was just ok (I chose poorly with the sauce) but I learned my lesson quick and my next poke bowl was so so good!! Located on Park Street in Alameda, if you don't mind walking a few blocks, there's plenty of free parking on some of the side streets. I love this place- came here on a Friday at noon for lunch. I ordered a regular bowl with spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp, and half and half of crab chips and spring mix as my base. I also got some crab chips on the side with a California onigiri with a golden buckwheat tea. Poke Koma is very generous with their toppings; I got everything they had and I felt like there was enough of every bit. I really liked the California spicy onigiri, it's a perfect cheap snack to grab and go. The golden buckwheat tea was good but next time I'll skip on the boba. I'm not a huge poke man, but out of the local spots I've been to, Poke Koma in Alameda and Hawaiian Poke Bowl in SL are my two clearcut favorites. The freshness of the ingredients and the great service are what set these two apart. However, what stands Poke Koma above the rest is their musubi! Poke is great, but having some warm, made to order musubi to go along with it is just the ticket! My favorites have got to be the pork belly and spam, egg, & bacon. As mentioned, I'm not such a poke connoisseur to be able to distinguish all the nuances of flavors, but all I know is that everything suits my palate here, and out of the numerous times I have visited, I've never had a bad experience. Furthermore, the convenient location on Park St. gives you the opportunity to explore other establishments in the vicinity to soak in the sights and sounds. This is one of the most pleasant areas to take a stroll in the East Bay. I particularly enjoy dropping by Ding Tea a few doors down to really complete the meal! The only issue is that parking can be a bit of a hassle during peak dining hours, but it's usually not unbearable. A few rounds around the block should usually do the trick. read more

You have options siting in the cabinet that's ready to be taken to go without the wait (unless you order a poke bowl or you don't see the item you want in it)! Here's what I had: LION BAKE - $13.25 I can't recommend this enough. If you're a fan of the Lion King Roll, give this a try. The problem with some sushi rolls is that sometimes one roll isn't filling. Well this is!! It's so smart they created this rice bowl topped with all the goodness from a Lion King Roll! And they do not skimp on the sauces! It's so good AND it's like you're eating 3 rolls for only $13.25-which is way cheaper than most Lion King rolls anywhere! It may not be made to order unless that heating cabinet doesn't have it, but it's still good in my opinion. CALIFORNIA ONIGIRI - $3.25 I'd like more filling but that's me. Overall it's good and has the good fillings: crab, cucumbers and avocado. CHICKEN KATSU ONIGIRI - $3.50 I enjoyed the slab of katsu with the sauce. Adds a but if the battered and deep fried crunch. VEGETABLE CROQUETTE (2) - $4.00 Probably the ONLY item I do not like here. It's soft, stale, not crunchy and tastes mostly starchy. I didn't see any vegetables. Even when I reheated in my air fryer it still wasn't good. I was hoping this was made to order but it's also in the heating cabinet. SPAM MASUBI - $2.50 Not bad! I feel you can't mess this up. My husband and I love getting the Hawaiian poke bowl and spam musubis here. We often dine-in and enjoy our lunch here, however, the one thing I've noticed is a decline in their quality of customer service. It is surprising to say, but the high schoolers who served us a couple of weeks ago provided a better experience than one of the older employees who served me the last time we went here.
