Was back in Alameda again the other day around lunchtime and decided to give this place another try since their staff are always helpful and accommodating. Glad I did. Service was great like last time. They keep this place clean too (wiping down the tables after diners leave, and keeping condiment and drinks station stocked and clean). Today I ordered the 2 piece Musubi (about $7) which comes with protein choice of spam, bbq chicken, or bbq beef. Asked if I could mix the flavors and the counter service representative kindly obliged. Asked for 1 spam and 1 bbq beef. I also ordered the BBQ combo plate which comes with 1 slice of kalbi beef ribs, bbq beef strips, and bbq chicken - atop steamed cabbage and broccoli, with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad for $16.99. Since I am not a fan of cold mac salad anywhere I go, I opted for all scoops of rice this time. Flavors were good, and better this time for the bbq beef strips - they weren't dry or over seasoned. I really liked both the spam and bbq beef musubi too and would get them again. Good ratio of protein and rice and very easy to eat by hand, on the go. Note: when you pay at the counter, there isn't an option to add tips, so if you'd like to give tips to the staff, bring some cash as they have a tip jar next to the cashier.

After 10 days on Oahu I was excited to swing by the Ono Hawaiian BBQ for at least an echo of the amazing traditional foods we've been eating. The food was disappointing: corporate ingredients prepared in a predictable corporate way, with no real flavor profile of anything from the islands. The service was pretty lackluster; there was plenty of staff but nobody seemed to want to be there. I'm guessing it was shame at being told to push such marginal product. The ambience is fast food at its most indifferent. Every surface was clean, but uninviting. I'm hoping this is a mistake we never make again.

I typically order the bbq chicken and katsu chicken plate. Chicken is juicy and never dry. Always ready by the time I come for pick up. Ambiance is clean and has a little sauce bar for you to grab whatever you need. Located in a plaza with lots of parking available. Staff are friendly and quick to grab your order.

I love Hawaiian BBQ, and Ono is my favorite among the franchises. Their mac salad is better than L&L BBQ. If you love mac salad, I highly recommend trying theirs. My favorite thing to order here is their Island Spiced Fish. Unfortunately, they do not carry this anymore. They tested it out last year but did not get many people to order. The dish came with three huge chunks of white fish. The spiced fish has a nice kick, and it was so flavorful. Below the fish was steamed cabbage and came with rice and mac salad. Please bring back the Island Spiced Fish!!!

I went here twice while I was visiting Alameda and I really wish we had an Ono where I live!!! It is SO good. The portions are huge, reasonable prices, friendly staff. Their sauce is delicious so I like that they have it out and you are able to take as much as you want. The quality of their meat is great, it's always so fresh and flavorful. The macaroni salad is one of the best I've had too. If I lived near Ono I'd definitely get it at least once a week.

Food here is always good. Service is wonderful. The ambience is chatter employees customer and Hawaiian music.

We visited Ono Hawaiian on a Friday at 6 pm. While the to-go counter was busy, the dining area was only about 25% full, making it easy to find a seat. It was mostly clean and quiet. This chain Hawaiian spot offers the usual fare, like chicken katsu served with rice, mac salad, and some veggies. The portion size was generous--I ended up splitting it into two meals. They had a $7 plate special, which drew us in, and we left happy with the value and quality. The mac salad was solid and complemented the meal nicely. A big plus is the unlimited condiment packets conveniently located near the drinks station. Service was okay. The cashier seemed young and a bit unsure but was kind overall. Parking is convenient, with a large shared lot that has plenty of spaces. Overall, it was a satisfying experience, especially for the price point.

These types of places are falling off... how come you have to pay extra for a drink when you order a meal? And it's not like the food is fresh. $14 for a meal that doesn't come with a drink is steep. I paid $27 for 2 meals + soda and that's with the 50% coupon I got in the mail. My son ordered a 2 entree plate and an appetizer (6 shrimp) and it came up to $24. Wowzers. I'll be making this at home in 2024 bc this is crazy

Extremely hyped... and unfortunately fell pretty flat…read more I really wanted to like this place. I'm usually pretty forgiving with local food spots, especially a small BBQ operation where I know things sell out and everyone's working hard. But this was a rough experience. ---- Pros ---- Jalapeno cheese sausage: Smoky, spicy, and delicious! Definitely recommended. Coleslaw: Unique with what I'm assuming is an Indonesian twist. Nice sweetness and interesting textures. Staff: Friendly and apologetic once we got our orders. The line was mostly shaded, which helped. ---- Cons ---- We waited 1 hour and 45 minutes. During that time, the dino ribs, beef cheeks, and beef ribs sold out. We stayed for the brisket... then the brisket sold out right before we reached the counter by a customer that bought 3 lbs. I completely understand that popular BBQ spots sell out, especially on a sunny Saturday. That wasn't really my issue. The communication was. The inventory sign out front is supposed to show what's left, but they stopped updating it before we even got in line. We watched multiple people wait nearly two hours, only to find out at the register that the item they wanted had already sold out. Updating the board every 20 or 30 minutes would've saved a lot of people a long wait. We decided to order anyway. By then the lumpia had sold out too, though the cashier didn't know yet. After almost two hours, our order ended up being one sausage, one chicken leg, and coleslaw. The chicken leg was unfortunately dry, overcooked, and bland inside. It had a little smokiness, but was disappointing. The coleslaw started strong but became one-dimensional after a few bites. BBQ sauces were standard. Avoid this one, even if it's what they have left. ---- Overall ---- I appreciate how friendly and apologetic the staff was. They're clearly trying hard. But between the long wait, lack of communication, sold out menu, and food we actually received, the experience didn't live up to the hype. I'd only recommend coming very early if you're set on the popular items. Based on what we were actually able to eat, it just wasn't worth the wait for us.

Everett and Jones once had a location in Sacramento many years ago and I used to visit often. I loved their barbecue sauce and still buy it in stores when available. I had that in mind when telling my family, 'Let's go!" I was disappointed with the food when we arrived. The first thing I noticed when our food came out was that the barbecue sauce wasn't as thick as I remembered, it was very runny, it's didn't stick to the mean. I also saw a lot of fat on the ribs, but thought maybe the taste would be good, so we prayed and ate. Unfortunately, the ribs were fatty and tough to find good meat. I also tried the brisket, which was a little fatty but VERY good. I ordered mac and cheese and greens as sides, but didn't like either. The mac and cheese had a bit of charred cheese on top (which I love), but I wasn't impressed afterward. My friend's hot link had zero flavor, just texture, which was strange. I was embarrassed because I had bragged about how hot the links were! Sike! Everyone at the table enjoyed the sweet cornbread. We also loved the mango lemonade. The desserts were outstanding: caramel cake, key lime pie, and pecan sweet potato pie. I highly recommend those! I'd visit again but skip the ribs and links. As a family member said, 'Don't eat your leftovers alone--you might need someone to do the Heimlich if you choke on the fat." jkjk

The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!
