I've mainly gone to the Oakland Ohgane for years, but my wife and I tried this Ohgane for dinner a couple nights ago.. We went on a Friday Night for dinner without an reservation, we had a 10 minute wait which wasn't bad for a Friday Night. We chose the All You Can Eat Course A which was the cheaper version, we ordered it for the price and because it cheaper but the Course A met our main need of including LA Galbi (Beef short ribs). We could order by tablet and you could order meat every 5 minutes with an overall 2 hour time limit. Let's start with the LA Galbi which seemed very fresh, and visually you could get the bone was thicker than other places (I guess a different cut of the beef). We generally order as much Galbi as possible, also other beef products, spicy pork and pork belly. All were petty good. We also enjoyed their corn cheese, the tofu soup, and we ended with the spicy ramen. We also tried the spicy chicken tenders. The main reasons for a lower rating was the service was a little slower even to get the grill changed, we hit the button several times. Also, when we were paying, we had an Ohgane gift card (purchased from Costco) from a few years ago and they said the manager said they wouldn't accept it. In California law, gift cards don't expire and since it's not like the company changed hands or went out of business in the time, we felt like they should've honored it, but we decided not to fight it even though the gift card value was $50. It was my first time, my friends went here before and they recommended it here to celebrate my friend's birthday. There are options between A & B so we chose A, there's alot to choose from the meat and appetizers and sides. The meat very flavorful and great quality. Lettuce was so fresh! The sides are delicious. I recently dined at Ohganes and had a phenomenal experience with our family of 20! The atmosphere is vibrant, and the banchan (side dishes) are fresh and plentiful. However, the highlight of the evening was our waiter, PD. He provided absolutely amazing service & he was proactive, knowledgeable about the menu, and had our grill changed at the perfect intervals so our meats never burned & drinks were refilled upon request, PD's professionalism and friendly demeanor made us feel like VIPs. We came in for lunch, you get like six Banchan and order everything you want on the tablet. The quality of stuff is pretty good but it's a tad expensive for what you get. The only issue is the chairs are so hard and uncomfortable and when you pull your chair in, there is no room for your legs but on the ledge under the table. If you are short it's great but all the tall people in our party had a hard time because their knees are up high. Stood up a bit to help with the hard seat. Food was good and unlimited marinated short ribs is what we like the most. We did menu A so it didn't include the Vons chicken wings. I like when places have the sauce bar, that is the only thing I would have liked to see. And maybe a tiny dessert like mochi or a popsicle to end the meal. Sometimes, it's 420 and you have an insatiable desire for meat. Sometimes it's not 420 but you still wanna go in some meat. Here's where you can do that, at great value imo for $44 pp. I come in every other month or so for that AYCE $44 dinner and really enjoy the Bulgogi and the LA beef style short rib, which you cook yourself. Additionally, they have a wide variety of sides you can order as well. My favorite is the kimchi soup, which is DELICIOUS, as well as their house boneless fried chicken. Alyssa just put me on the radish wraps, so I like to go back-and-forth between those and the lettuce wraps with the meat. Don't sleep on the cheese corn either! With all the sides, I really do $44 is a good deal. You order at a little kiosk at your table, but there's also servers who can help you, so it's nice to have both option options. It can get pretty busy here on weekends but on weekdays it's really chill so I usually come on weekdays. Honestly I'm in bed rotting with no food or water in my system and this sounds soooo good. Dual experience for KBBQ and Korean fried chicken! My party of 5 came in on Tuesday night and got seated only 5 minutes of waiting. They're located in a plaza with lots of parking. The restaurant is HUGE with lots of tables and walking areas. We got their normal AYCE option for KBBQ and got a variety of their meats including pork belly, bulgogi, octopus, prime beef, and steak. They also had side dishes like stews, steamed egg, and potstickers. You could get extra stuff like the chicken or the seafood pancake but you would have to pay on top of the AYCE price. The meat quality was pretty average except for the steak, those were pretty tough to eat through. For the pork belly, it was the thinner version. They had good marination/sauce options for the meats though like miso or garlic pork belly! Overall, cute space especially with the Korean movie posters decor everywhere but food itself was alright. read more

Cozy KBBQ spot that is AYCE with Vons Chicken. The karaage was really flavorful and fried very well. We recommend trying all the flavors and eating it with the spicy mayo! Unfortunately, they ran out of rice paper, but the radish paper paired well with meats! The meats were also flavorful, especially the marinated dishes (LA Short Rib and Spicy Pork Bulgogi). For the nonmarinated meats, we recommend the angus beef brisket. We weren't too impressed by the thinly sliced pork. We especially liked the appetizers such as the honey tteokbokki, shrimp tempura, and gyoza. However, some appetizers were a miss like the cheese corn, as it did not have much cheese. I have a lot of friends who loooove ohgane, and I just dint have the same appreciation for it. I didn't grow up in the east bay so I feel like I don't have an emotional attachment to it but if a friend wants to go I won't refuse. Ohgane is big and can easily large parties. It's trendy with the decor and they play fun music. The service is as good. I wish they'd take initiative to change out the grill more often but they happily did it when asked. I just don't think the meat quality is as good as other places. The rib eye and shirt ribs were especially rough. The bulgogi and brisket were okay. Honestly, the lengua was the star of the meats. The seafood pancake is an additional 5 dollars if you do try AYCE menu but so worth it. There was surprisingly ALOT of seafood in it! read more

Came here for my birthday dinner on a Saturday night and it was a smooth experience from start to finish. It was a pretty packed house, but with a party of four and no reservation, we were seated within 10-15 minutes. We went with option A on the menu, and while it's the less expensive option with "less" meats, there were only a handful of meats that were only available with the more expensive option B, so it didn't seem worth the extra cost. Ordering is done through the kiosk on the table. In order to discourage guests from over-ordering (and incurring the $60 cost for leftover meat at the end of the meal), you're made to wait 10 minutes or so between orders. Wait staff and bussers were extremely prompt in bringing out the food after placing orders, as well as with clearing empty plates and both. Everyone was also very nice. We were never sitting waiting for food. We also never had to ask for the grill to be removed; our waitress asked us twice on her own if she could replace it for us. We tried beef bulgogi, spicy pork bulgogi, BBQ chicken, ribs, and various vegetables to grill, and everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. The fried chicken was so good that we got two orders. The potstickers and japchae were great, too, and the kimchi tofu stew was fantastic on this bitterly cold night. On that note, the only complaint I had about the experience was that the restaurant was absolutely FREEZING and felt like I was eating outside. I'm not sure if maybe it had something to do with ensuring the restaurant had good ventilation, but it made eating a bit unpleasant. Total for four people plus drinks came out to just over $200. We were all stuffed by the end of the meal and agreed that the bulgogi beef and BBQ chicken were the stars of the night. Oh my, I usually like Korean BBQ, like a lot, and I'm honestly not that persnickety about whether the beef is Wagyu or not as long as the grill is working. I had never been to Ohgane before, but since I was at South Shore anyway, I thought why not try them since their space was so huge. I just assumed that its excessive square footage must mean the food must clearly justify the real estate investment. I think my critical mistake was not ordering anything that required grilling at my table. I just figured being a solitary diner that I shouldn't have them turn on the grill for just me. In fact, they had menus pushing their non-grilled items like fried chicken, musubi, and something in a bowl called Cup'd BBQ. I decided to order the $15 Short Rib Cup because the lure of galbi just tempted me (Photo 7). There was a choice of mayos and aiolis of which I had to select one, so I went with the chili mayo. What arrived was a bowl with short ribs already overmarinated in a sweet BBQ sauce and splooged liberally with chili mayo. There was rice underneath but no sign of the Japchae noodles. The ribs were absurdly chewy, and while I tried to make a meal of the banchan (Photo 8), I just couldn't finish that cup. First things first, I would like to say that my fiancé and I are regulars here and enjoy coming here to celebrate special occasions along with our family. We came tonight to celebrate my birthday and everything went well. We had an awesome server who catered to all our personal needs and was very quick at getting things situated for us. We also had other servers come to check in on us regularly as well to make sure that everything was okay and asked us if we needed anything. Food was good, we usually ordered our usual items which included brisket, cubed steak, and galbi. The food is always great and we never had an issue. Only downfall with the food is that the kimchi tasted different/interesting. It had more of a sourness/spoiled taste and didn't taste like normal kimchi. But that was okay because all the other side dishes were fine and we just decided not to eat the kimchi. Everything was going great, but things did take a turn where we felt uncomfortable dining. The manager seemed intoxicated and was really unprofessional. He was really loud and having a conversation with the guests next to us. The conversation did not seem professional and long story short he was saying loudly, "Fuck them asians" as if he too was not Asian. Literally made my fiancé and I uncomfortable to be sitting there and witnessing this. There was another party who were Asians dining next to us and they were clearly uncomfortable as well. We finished our dinner and paid our bill per usual. We do enjoy coming here and enjoy the service we receive from the wait staff/servers. This is the nearest ohgane to us and would hate to have to drive to the other locations because we did enjoy coming here. Came here on a Saturday with a party of 5 around 3 pm. There was just one waitress who handled the only section seating guests which was the row straight behind the hostess table. We went with the AYCE price of $38.99 though they did have a premium price that had a few more items for $4 more. Since it wasn't our first rodeo to a KKBQ, we mainly ordered pork belly, spicy pork belly, kalbi and beef brisket. We did get one cheesy corn. Regarding the banchan, decent variety but I notice they leave the sides set on the table ahead of time even though there isn't any customers occupying it. They had my fav of bean sprouts and kimchee cucumber. One thing you need to ask when you place your meat order, to ask for the condiments of salt, spicy sauce and soy sauce. We didn't do that initially so when our meat was cooking, we had to ask for it later on which took a while to get the waitress over. Even though there was one waitress, she had a few servers who brought in the meat to the table. I thought the selection of meat available was great and provided lots of choices. If there was one complaint was that the waitress didn't come often enough to check on us and there was a wait to find her around. The male servers didn't speak English and was mainly just to drop off the food. Our grill was in need of a change since it was getting dark and Smokey and took awhile to get that changed by the staff. The place was spacious and had lots of sections unoccupied so I don't know how busy they are during late night. Bill for 5 came out to $228 that included a few $3 sodas. Came here hungry. Left full, slightly smoky, and very satisfied -- which is exactly what I want from Korean BBQ. I went all-in on the grill with their premium menu B options: thick slices of pork belly, beef brisket, and marinated cuts that actually looked good before they even hit the fire (a rare but appreciated flex). The pork belly was the standout for me -- crisped up nicely, juicy inside, and perfect wrapped with their side of garlic and jalapenos. No filler meat, no sad thin slices pretending to be premium. The L.A. style ribs were one of my favorite dishes. I also had the soft tofu stew and spicy ramen noodles soup on the side, but couldn't finish either. They ran out of the radish wraps before I got there. The vibe is lively and casual -- Service was on point: quick refills, grill help when needed, and no weird disappearing acts mid-meal. But on the drink menu it is a poor one. I tried to order 3 different wines which listed on the menu however none of them are available. I have to settle something else.
