I've been going here since it opened and saw the recent bad reviews so wondered if things had changed. Ordered a family meal with chicken katsu, bbq chicken, and bbq beef. They all tasted as good as I remember. Also got a rice bowl with bbq pork and several spam musubis. Those were great as well. In the past I've had the burgers, fish tacos, spam saimin, and beef short ribs and thought they were great. The only thing I've had here that I didn't like was their curry. Also their BBQ beef and pork are on the saltier side, but that's my preference. Matches well with the rice and mac salad. Super nasty, the "salmon" is super then doesn't even taste like salmon. Should've known when it wasn't a single soul coming in or out. Well, I don't usually eat Hawaiian BBQ, but I wanted to give "Ohana Hawaiian BBQ" another try after my fair experience at another location. So I was in the area of Alameda's Nobhill Shopping Center, and decided to get takeout from the Ohana place there. I was there during the most ideal time.....just before lunch. Oh yes, that special time when everything is fresh and well stocked. Usually the best people are working. I got the "Chicken Combo," with 2 scoops of Mac salad, and 1 rice. How was it? It was very good The Chicken Combo was listed as 1/2 Chicken Katsu and 1/2 BBQ Chicken. Well, that's not what I got, but I'm not complaining. I got served 2/3 chicken katsu and 1/3 BBQ Chicken. That boneless fried chicken was hot, moist, and very crispy. OMG, it was good! They put a big slab of Katsu on top of the Mac Salad. The BBQ Chicken was okay. Good flavor, not salty. Hot, but a little dry. I think that's why they served me more chicken katsu. The Macaroni salad had good flavor, and tasted as it should. The white rice was just clumps, not fluffy and not steaming hot. Hmm, I think I'm addicted to that crispy chicken katsu. Next time, I'm just ordering that. First of all, these fools forgot the bbq sauce. How the faaaack do you forget the MAIN ingredient for your meats?! I wouldn't be trippin' so bad if the food was actually good, but this sh!t needed that bbq sauce BADLY! It was dry AF! Both the shrimp and fish were clearly over fried. The bbq beef was 80% fat and 20% beef. The veggies tasted like they came from one of those frozen bags in the freezer section of the grocery store. Nothing was fresh. Nothing was good. I'm honestly appalled. How can anyone even fix themselves to serve this to a human?! Hell, even the dogs ain't f-ckin' wit it. Whoever is cooking up this junk needs to be slapped. Better yet, they should try it themselves. I'm sure that alone will already be a slap in the face. The crazy part is, this place has been in business for at least 15 years. It's late night and there aren't many options available so we opted for Ohana's (which I suggested against given experience years ago) but my boyfriend still wanted to give it a try. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. We each ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 combo mines with BBQ beef & fried shrimp + rice and fries. The beef is basically 90% fat, there was nothing there I could actually eat. The fried shrimp is cold, soggy, and mainly breading. The fries are microwaved and not fully cooked - completely inedible. Lastly, their teriyaki is runny and not on the best tasting side so it rendered useless in giving my rice flavor. Definitely never returning and wouldn't recommend. I haven't been to this location in years, so I thought I'd drop in for a to go order while running errands. I used to get their Monday happy hours Fish Tacos and fries. This time I got the grilled fish plate with rice/veggies and a 4 piece of chicken wings. When I got home and opened my package, the fish looked halfway raw. Even though there were some sautee marks, the flesh was still transparent overall. Not cool at all. Luckily I was home. Rather than risk getting sick, I put the fish back on my home grill to cook it all the way through. Sure enough it was partly raw, as the juices flowed out and the meat finally firmed up to be less translucent. On top of that it was fairly bland, so I had to add more seasoning to the grill. The chicken wings were coated in a batter that was also pretty plain, even though it came with a side of ranch dipping. Never again. The quality of this venue has really gone downhill. This place has changed hands multiple times over the years. This visit was the final straw. It's too bad because this type of chain should be easy. Sitting aside the sort of rude boy who took my order, the food food was practically inedible. I had the fish tacos which is what I always get in there and seriously the tortilla looked and tasted like it had been sitting on the floor for a while. Round Table, Taco Bell, and Subway are all neighbors to the left. So there is a nice variety to choose from at Blanding, but for a high protein BBQ meat filled plate there is no better spot than Ohana. In the past I would pass by and maybe order a couple Spam Masubi which are always good. But the other day I decided to have dinner. BBQ meat plate $9.95: this is a good value. Three types of meat. Beef, chicken, and spare ribs along with a side of two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni. It's a pile of meat and a fair price. The taste and quality is nothing mind blowing but just acceptable. Would I order it again? Yes. Would I walk through a desert bare foot to get it? Hell to the Naw. I ordered food from this location through Uber Eats. It took almost an hour to get my food and when I got it, my order was wrong. I immediately called the store and spoke with the manager. Because it was late, rather than returning the food and correcting it, she offered to comp the same order the next time. When I called in to "redeem" her offer, she told me she couldn't do it. The owners told her she wasn't allowed to do it. Had I know this I would have demanded that the food be returned or filed a complaint with my credit card company and refused to pay for it.
