    Half kalua half ahi

If we see this truck when passing Geiger Park, it's what's for lunch! Seriously fresh poke with amazing toppings. Hubs prefers pork while I prefer ahi and these nachos are a match made in heaven! Half and half on a huge bed of crispy wonton chips. And the sauces on top with loads of sweet spice. I keep saying I'll try more of the menu but then I keep going back for the nachos! Lol

MAYJAH! First timers to uncle Poke even after following him on IG and drooling over his posts. His truck is super easy to find even if you didn't know your way around Ewa Beach. When we first arrived the line had already started and he was only open for like an hour. "If get line den u kno da food is winnahz!" While waiting in line we noticed everyone in the front of us ordering multiple plates and I'm talking 3 or more pricing out to at least $25 a plate so that has to tell you something. We waited for about 30 minutes or so until it was our turn which we didn't mind. FOOD: The poke nachos was peeeeeerfect! The chips were crisp and not too salty like I've had in the past elsewhere, the poke was so FRESH you could really taste the difference from store brought and the sauce on top just tied everything together like white on rice. My kids MOPPED the whole thing while dad and I only got a few bites in lol. Our other plate was onolicious! Ahi Pattie's were big and chunky with all the right flavors, the fish was amazing w/the sauce that just pulls the plate together and the rice was a perfect sticky that just grabs at your mouth. OVERALL: I would highly recommend following uncle Poke on IG and check him out especially if you're a fish person. He's awesome at what he does & his customer service is definitely ALOHA all the way around.

They've also put down more markers for customer parking which has been helpful in picking up food from here. The line can be long at times but they keep it moving quickly once you get inside. Hubs and I started dabbling beyond our usual kalbi and garlic chicken combo and crunchy garlic with tater tots. We tried a new addition to their menu: poké nachos. I've seen these elsewhere on island but their wontons are freshly fried, spiced with furikake, and don't feel too heavy. It's a nice vehicle to eat their poke and comes with Taegu as well as crab and seaweed salad. Did I have it twice in one week? Also yes. Their fish patties are moist and flavorful. Can't go wrong with their poke selection, good mouthfeel, fresh fish, and flavors are delicious. The energy here is fast paced and all the workers are kind/ answer questions. Will definitely be trying more tastes from here.

OMG --- the price/lb is less where we live but it' not as fresh. Tanioka's is organized if you're patient and willing to wait in line which almost everyone is. I'm not sure if I like so much merchandise from other businesses attracting us while waiting in line. The space is already small. The ambiance could be improved by downsizing on local merchandise. We are standing in line to purchase poke not other stuff. Consider refreshing that space. Service has always been good.

We stopped by for an early dinner after grocery shopping at Seafood City. Since the weather looked a bit gray, we decided to drive over. Even though the lot was busy, there were plenty of open spots near Hou since it's toward the end of the plaza. It's been a while since I've been to this area--it has cleaned up nicely now that Highway Inn is gone. Inside, the restaurant is clean, well-lit, and the staff is very friendly. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura Udon and the California + Spicy Tuna + Crab Salad roll combo. No regrets! The miso-based broth in the udon was delicious, and I appreciated that the shrimp tempura came on the side to stay crispy. My personal favorite, however, was the spicy tuna on top of the cone sushi--it paired perfectly with the udon. The prices are great, and I was happy to learn they have a second location on Kapiolani. It's a great addition to the West Side and clearly popular with the local crowd. I'll definitely be back!

To put it into perspective, there was a flash flood warning during a storm this week and I still drove 40 minutes just to pick up takeout from them. That's how worth it this place is to me. The portions here are insanely generous, especially for the price point. You get so much food, and the quality never feels compromised. The fish is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, which is why I keep coming back year after year. Their service is also incredibly efficient. You can tell this team really knows how to run a tight operation. They stayed open and adapted throughout COVID, and that ability to pivot and keep things running smoothly still shows in how quickly and reliably they handle orders today. If you wanna sit inside, I urge you to come towards open or with the expectation to wait a bit. You sign up on the clipboard outside and wait patiently. The good news is that they turntables extremely quickly. Places like this are rare--great food, great value, and a team that clearly cares about what they're doing. I'll always make the drive for Sushi Bay, and I genuinely hope they stay open forever.

Long Overdue: My First Time at Azuma's (And Why I'm Already Planning My Return)…read moreOkay, I have to be honest with you all -- I've been sleeping on Azuma's. For months, people have been telling me about their dried aku, and I kept saying "soon, soon." Well, soon finally happened, and I have nobody to blame but myself for waiting this long. Now, before I go any further -- yes, I forgot to take photos. I know. I know. But here's the thing: the moment that dried aku hit the table, all my food blogger instincts went completely out the window. It was just me and that fish, and nothing else mattered. The dried aku was everything the hype promised -- deeply savory, with that concentrated, almost smoky flavor you only get when something is made with real patience and skill. The kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Absolutely ono. No notes. Next time -- and there will be a next time, probably very soon -- I'm going in for the laulau. I have a feeling it's going to be just as worthy of the word-of-mouth buzz. Watch this space. Azuma's -- go. Just go.

That's the dream we can only hope for and luckily Monarch Poke located in Pearl Kai Shopping Center near T-Mobile area was open and not only that had a display case filled with various fresh fish all straight from the auction. This was quite late in the afternoon as I was set up for disappointment I was pleasantly surprised to see how much they still had and the gentleman says that that he thought it would've been busier but know that he had a catering order and is sure than none will go to waste is great to know but with that I did grab a couple of items that already piqued my interest, and entering this cozy shop was nice and simple. With seasonings like Crispy Garlic Chili Oil, Spicy, and Salmon poke I went for Inamona (Kukui nut) Poke, and Yuzu Scallop Poke as Scallops which are cute baby scallops is for mom since she loves scallops, and I love the simplicity flavor of the inamona with sesame oil, lime and Hawaiian salt though personally I didn't like it was rolling in green onions and white onions as I'm not a huge fan of them. The down side what I didn't like is the "MP" which I completely understand it's market fresh and is impossible to price it permanently but wished they'd put a daily price beside them the half pound of Yuzu Scallops Poke and one pound of inamona poke total did made me question my impulsive decision don't get me wrong it was delicious but there was too much onion in mine (personal choice) but the gentleman there was very nice describe each item including getting wasabi from Japan as it's all crafted fresh shows the love in each dish as I thoroughly enjoyed it for Christmas. Thank you!

First thing we noticed was that the prices here were way more affordable than Maui. We went to costco beforehand because we didn't want to pay inflated prices for things like water and liquor but honestly it was pretty comparable. Of course we had to get the poke here. They have so many options and flavors that you really can't go wrong. We asked the guy behind the counter what he recommended and he had just made a fresh batch of their spicy poke which was delicious. We also got the californian poke, but that was just alright in comparison to the spicy poke he made. I think the trick here is to just ask what's the freshest and go with that. While the poke gets a lot of love at Foodland, the low key superstar is their fried chicken. Warm, cold, room temperature, it's hella good. We tried their salt and vinegar wings and their garlic fried chicken, and it was some of the best bites on the entire trip. Definitely don't skip out on this on your next trip to Foodland!
