We stopped by Ryders Poke and Shave Ice on a Saturday afternoon. Ample parking near Dixie Grill. Sadly, the shave ice wasn't available. The menu is straightforward and the display case shows all the poke styles available. We ordered two poke bowls - one shoyu poke bowl and another bowl with half shoyu and half California. Each poke bowl was $20. The poke bowls come with two scoops of rice and toppings of furikake, sauce, and some crunchy bits. The poke was fresh and delicious. It's always so dangerous to have Ryders so close to work for me. Out of all our Poke places, my husband and I absolutely LOVE Ryders Poke and Shave Ice. First, the staff is always so kind, accommodating, and patient. If you're ever on the fence, they're always so willing to help guide you in the right direction to give you the best poke experience. Although they've only got a few flavors of Poke, it's perfectly enough! They give you a hefty amount of rice and poke with every bowl; I always have some left over every time and their poke flavors are always SO amazing, regardless of what combination you choose (although, I would recommend their Gingah and Spicy Shoyu together). Although I love their bowls, I would absolutely recommend getting their pound of poke deal. You can divvy up the weight of poke any way you want, so usually my husband and I get a quarter of a different flavor poke and just make our rice at home--the only downside to doing this is that you don't get the fun toppings (furikake and crunchy mochi). Also, just a disclaimer, their space is extremely small with limited bar-type seating, so plan to take your bowl/food to go if you want to be comfortable. The only reason why I'm docking 1 star is because unfortunately, some of their toppings are a little too expensive to add on for the amount that you get. This local poke shop is located close to the airport. It's ran by a father and son duo. The fish doesn't get fresher than this. The ingredients are locally sourced. Ryders has unique toppings I've never seen any where else. I got spicy mayo and ginger avocado poke bowl. Junior the father set us up with the works: teriyaki sauce, pickled garlic and Taegu. The pickled garlic isn't spicy or intensely garlicky but gave it a delicious tangy crunch that paired well with the rest of the meaty ahi and perfectly cooked short grain rice. Taegu is a local topping that is Korean inspired made of soy marinated cod strips. When you're done with their poke, go back for round two and get their kulolo sundae. Kulolo sundae is warm taro and coconut pudding under scoops of coconut ice cream sprinkled with crushed macadamia nuts and chocolate syrup. Their ice cream is sourced from Rosalina in Maui. I think I dead and went to foodie heaven with the first bite. The temperature difference the textures of warmed soft pudding, shredded coconut and ice creamy goodness that hit the not too sweet spot that all Asians love. The sashimi has fantastic quality and is very fresh, but the flavors weren't quite there. Their most popular flavors are spicy ahi and avocado ahi. Avocado ahi was so bland. We got oyster sauce as our second flavor and it was wayyyy too salty. The shaved ice was way too syrupy and inedible. But the sundae was 5/5 all around! The mochi like taro inside was so delicious. There are many parking lot but depends on the day and time, little full. The USS Arizona Memorial is one of the most visited historical sites in America. Most people visiting Oahu will visit this amazing peak into our history. If you count yourself as one of them go to Ryders or at least for a break. We got there about 15 mins before they closed and candidly the girls were nice enough but also it seemed like they were disappointed that customers came in so close to closing. The place itself is in a tiny parking lot in the corner next to a tattoo parlor. There is no seating except the picnic table outside. As for the shave ice itself, it was fantastic and soft. The flavors were tasty and they had a good assortment. There were only 4 flavors left as they were an out of two and couldn't or wouldn't replace them. While we didn't get poke bowls we were allowed to try the scraps of what was left and it was as good as everyone says! But they WILL run out so don't wait till closing to go! At the End of the Day it was convenient and close to Pearl Harbor and hit the spot! We would definitely go back if visiting again and get poke bowls and hopefully the ice cream we were hoping to enjoy. read more

Yes you should go. Ryders was on my bucket list of poke places to check out while in Honolulu. And they did not disappoint. I came here with one other person. The nice people behind the counter answered all our questions and even let us sample their poke to make sure we knew what we wanted. I got poke nachos with their two best selling poke flavors (Ginger Avocado and Spicy Mayo). I also added the pickled onions which was a little extra $. It was delicious and flavorful. I love the chips they use which gave it a lot of crunch. I highly recommend the nachos. The person I came with got their regular poke bowl with rice. They also got 3 toppings including their popular pickled garlic which I also recommend. We both enjoyed our meal. The inside of this place is small and a more of a grab and go type of spot. But they do have some limited seating if you are looking to dine in. Besides poke they are known for their shaved ice and ice cream. I do want to come back and try their popular Kulolo sundae. This is the best poke I've ever had! Absolutely delicious and I wish in Hawai'i now so I could eat some. Every time I'm in O'ahu I crave poke. It's one of my staples when I visit. I've been on a hunt for the best and I think this place is it! The poke is so flavorful and fresh. You must order the pickled garlic - life changing! Decided to come here on a whim and was not disappointed! Located near Kam highway, there is a parking lot with plenty of spaces. There are other businesses so I can imagine it getting busy during peak hours. We got two poke bowls - hot shoyu/gingah avocado and Hawaiian/spicy. Hot shoyu was delicious! Definitely more on the salty side with the shoyu, but not too salty and has a nice kick. Gingah avocado was pretty good. I wish they actually added more salt or something to make it taste more like ginger chicken sauce. Was not as tasty in comparison to hot shoyu. The Hawaiian was decent. It was pretty standard. The spicy was great - good balance of mayo and Sriracha, and great kick. For some reason the portions of each flavor didn't seem equal - we got more spicy than Hawaiian, and more gingah than hot shoyu. No complaining, just an observation. I did not care for their rice. It tasted like it was sitting and overcooked. Shame. Also, something odd happened. While in line, we told them our order and ordered bowls with Furikake. Since they make the poke to-order, we paid and waited for them to make it and top off our bowls with the poke once it was made. Weirdly enough, when we got our bowls, both of them did not have Furikake... Bless these kind souls for allowing us to be those customers that come in 5 minutes before they close... We rushed in after eating next door to get some dessert since we saw they had such outstanding reviews and they were so nice and understanding. We ordered a small strawberry ice cream which was so creamy and thick, as well as a small shaved ice with 2 flavors, mochi, and condensed milk. As you can still from the picture below, they PACK the shaved ice to the brim and sky high for you that I thought we had accidentally gotten a large. The quality of the shaved ice itself is great, comparable to other highly rated shaved ice businesses. They didn't rush out after ordering and were generous enough to let us eat our sweets in the store about 10 min past closing time. We unfortunately didn't get to try their poke but it is definitely on my list for the next time I come back to Oahu. read more

We decided to stop here on the way back from town. We heard they had some really bomb poke and I NEEDED to try the Kulolo sundae! We pulled in around 12 and seen that the store was pretty packed. My son got the poke nachos with 1/2 Hawaiian and 1/2 hot shoyu with comp. toppings, my boyfriend got a 1/2 gingah and 1/2 spicy ahi poke bowl with the comp toppings and I got a 1/2 hot shoyu and 1/2 spicy ahi poke bowl with just the crunch balls, I did not want furikake or unagi sauce. I actually wanted to add the pickled garlic as a side but they ran out :-( I also order the Kulolo sundae with all the toppings- macadamia nuts and chocolate drizzle. We probably waited no more than 10 minutes and our order was ready. I started to eat my Kulolo sundae on the way home. The Kulolo was warm and melting my ice cream. I'm very, very picky about Kulolo and I like to taste more kalo and coconut than sugar. This one wasn't overly sweet. The chopped mac nuts were perfect and added a little saltiness to the dessert. When we got home we ate our poke. The poke is very, very fresh and I honestly don't even know why people would add extra toppings like furikake or unagi sauce, it basically overpowers the flavor of the poke. My father in law likes coming to Ryders for their poke bowls and brought be a bowl to try. I got half order of the spicy ahi bowl and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. We have lots of good poke in Hawaii but this one stood out. It tasted fresh and the flavors weren't overpowering but had a really nice kick to it. I like spice but this was pretty spicy haha. I also tried their ginger avocado ahi bowl with pickled garlic and ocean salad for the toppings. I really enjoyed the toppings with my poke and I like that you can customize it. There are so many poke and shave ice options in HI, and it can be so hard to figure out which spot to try, especially if you're visiting (like our fam). Our flight arrived late and we needed a treat to keep us going until dinner time (still a few hours awake) so we could adjust to the time change. This was on our way, so we stopped here right after the airport and they were allllllllmost closing. But in true aloha spirit, they filled our order (2 shave ice and 1 poke bowl) with smiles and kindness, and even cut ahi for us FRESH bc they had already started cleaning up the poke bar before we arrived. I think this was the best, most fresh poke we've ever had - and my kids are STILL talking about it ("mom, remember that poke place in HI?! That was the best. I want to go back"). It's become the unattainable standard for all poke they eat here on the mainland! This from even my one kid who does not like any kind of sushi or poke! This was also our baby's first taste of poke and he was a huge fan. We only ordered one bowl of poke and the kiddos were fighting for each bite. We came as a large group on our lion dance break and were helped really quickly. The staff is so friendly and we were given samples. I tried the green onion ginger avocado and the deconstructed California and loved them!! I ended up choosing those two for my poke bowl. Went at around 3pm and they were out of rice and no poke in their chiller but they were able to make poke. Decided on the hot shoyu and gingah avocado. The kulolo sundae is totally recommended. The kulolo is warmed and so soft and the chocolate and Mac nut topping just goes so well with other the ice cream and kulolo.
