As a seafood lover, I'm always looking for new places to get my fish cravings satisfied. This place moved into a space across the street from my co-working space in Oakland months ago, but I only tried it today. I'm happy to say that all my expectations were exceeded! Irreproachably fresh fish? Check! Huge selection of toppings, sauces, and side dishes? Check! And wait, are those zucchini noodles on the menu as an optional base? Yes!!! I didn't even know I wanted that till I saw it. My medium-sized build-it-yourself bowl was like a party in every bite; so good! Normally I don't comment on decor, but when it comes to seafood, you really want to feel a sense of cleanliness and attention to detail. Poke Parlor has a nicely modern and sleek interior that fits perfectly with the food on offer. Again, service is not a big deal for me usually, but I noticed that my server discreetly gave me extra spicy crab when I said I didn't want any toppings. That was sooooo sweet! Pretty disappointed since I love their Berkeley location. The staff does not know how to use Doordash. They don't tell (doordash to tell) you when your order is ready or not. So the app just keeps adding 1min to the pick up time. Secondly the portions of the fish is alright. Originally I thought they were skimpy but I just realized they forgot a protein on my medium bowl. There were clumps of rice, which fresh or new rice doesn't really form. I assume they used some old rice from yesterday? or just didn't add enough water to the rice when they cooked it... which I doubt. read more

I'm not sure what to think and was a bit shocked after seeing my first meal here on the advice of a friend. The Rainbow Bowl that I was given had a rotten avocado right on top. It's actually rotten, hard as a rock and totally unedible. I mean right on top, like WTF. When I pointed it out they said they would replace it. I declined and said I won't be returning. I really like this place. Here are my thoughts so far: 1. Great opening; $1 discount for a few weeks (maybe a month) and generous portions at first 2. Everything is tasty, fresh and the place is clean 3. As of January, the fish portions have decreased. They gladly fill-up the bowl with everything else, but have been skimping on the fish. 4. Customer service is inconsistent; you either get the nice tall young lady with a nice attitude or one of the guys with an empty soul. Poke parlor is an amazing addition to Oakland. I got the crispy chicken bowl over rice and mixed greens. It's about as good as it gets. Crispy and juicy with just a slight hint of sweet and spicy from the sauce. My friend got a build your own poke bowl and she said it was really fresh. She got it with sriracha aioli with house shoyu which was recommended by one of the employees. Would go back 100%. Great to see small businesses surviving the pandemic in downtown Oakland. read more

This spot just opened so it's great to shout out these small business out especially during a pandemic. Food was fresh and the staff were very nice. Not to mention they do a good job cleaning their store, so it says a lot. For this who never tried poke before, this is a place I recommend. We loved this place. Great price, super service, great choices for poke bowl. I was there with my kids and it was perfect, exactly what we were looking for. I love getting to build your own poke bowl and choosing exactly what I want. This place is a mess. One time I went to pick up the order I placed via Grubhub. They said their iPad was unplugged and don't have the record of the order. So I showed them what I paid for, after 45 minutes delay or so they got my four bowls of poke ready for me. They said the owner will call me. Left my number and i said "what do I do if he doesn't call me?" The woman who seemed to be the manager there said "He will". Did he call ever? No. And I just called three times. The guy was speaking and he could not hear me at all. I called three times. I had work phone calls this morning so it's not my phone. I was in the Lake Merritt area and needed a quick lunch to take home. I came across Poke Parlor which had just opened on December 1st and is a second location to the original in Berkeley. The reviews were great and I didn't want to go to far so I decided to give it a try. The shop is on Harrison St but it's easier to find if you go to the Mechanics Bank entrance and walk to the right along Thomas L Berkeley Way. Inside the store is very very clean and COVID-protected. The worker was wiping down the counters, make sure there's plenty of clean gloves to serve with. No concerns about cleanliness here. Poke Parlor offers a small (2 protein), medium (3 protein) and large (4 protein) build it yourself bowl options, pre-configured bowls, sushi burritos and boba. I ordered a small bowl for my sister and a medium (3 proteins) for myself. Notes: -While most offerings are pretty typical for a poke spot, I was surprised to see zucchini noodles offered as a base. Why I don't see more poke spots with zucchini noodles I'm not sure. I typically get half rice, half salad for a healthier bowl but the salad is tough to mix and get the poke sauce mixture in the bowl. Zucchini noodles solves both of these problems! -The bowls we got were both HUGE. It's easier to consider it the next size up. I ate 2/3rds of my medium and felt pretty satisfied -The salmon and tuna were both fresh -The house shoyu and ponzu sauces made a great mix for me. -Mangoes are a nice touch -Didn't see an avocado option at the time -Making the bowl took did take a bit longer than expected but given this is still a soft opening, it's understandable. Poke Parlor is a great addition to the area. While there is plenty of parking, it's all paid. I suggest ordering online or walking over here. I'd be interested in trying the burritos and boba next time. read more

I was excited to finally try this place out on Thursday but unfortunately the young woman at the counter with the long red hair and false eyelashes was very rude and intimidating and ruined my experience. She did not appreciate me coming in and Interrupting her from being on her phone and made that very clear. I came in to look at the menu and figure out what and how to order, and she just stared at me like she was annoyed I was looking at the menu, then she coldly asks "you want to order something?" Not a proper way to speak to a customer and made me feel rushed and anxious. She was blunt and impatient throughout the whole ordering process. Clearly not someone who should be in customer service. I was really surprised at how mean and hostile the service was. So I just tried to stay quiet and polite so I could to get my food and get out of there quickly. Person behind the counter was really impatient with the 1 or 2 questions I had and rude about how ingredients had to be added in a certain order. Really condescending. Pretty sure this person deliberately didn't add masagp after I asked for it twice, but insisted it had to go in last. Discovered when I got home that I didn't actually get the masago. Poke Parlor is great and their food is very fresh! The workers are friendly and the space is very clean. However I've come here multiple times after work only to see that they have closed an hour early. The food tastes amazing. The proteins are very tasty, cucumbers are delicious and the seaweed salad is just the way I like it. I only have a couple of issues with this place: The customer service is lacking, and the portion sizes are teeny tiny. I always get my build a bowl with sushi rice, which is always in abundance, but my fish is always such small portions that it gets me down about it. I just got back from Maui so there's nothing like a heaping bowl with chickens running around your feet, and I get that they don't have the chickens to give that authentic, Maui WOW-i, but I easily have 2-3 times as much rice as I do fish. Maui status would be double the fish but if it was 1.5x as much as I get I'd be satisfied. I've ordered from here 3 times now, I even walk here during my lunch breaks, it's always a bit of a let down. But only enough to knock off one star. I'll still eat here... but not before I try a few other poke spots near my job for comparison. read more

This comment is for the Oakland location. The quality of the food is pretty good and the fish is fresh. However, a big minus is they give you noticeably smaller portions--and especially a significantly smaller amount of fish--when you order takeout vs when you order in person. I have had this happen three times already and it applies the same with the pre-made bowls and self-made bowls. Thus, it is better to go in person and watch them make your bowl. read more

Poke Parlor has become quite the new spot for myself and from what I see others as well during the afternoon lunch rush. I never took notice before until a couple weeks ago I was on my lunch and couldn't decide what to eat..as i passed i noticed how busy they were(which is a good sign!) While waiting in line i still couldnt decide everything looked so good! The young lady at the counter was so helpful in helping me come to a decision she had a friendly smile and fantastic customer service I walked out with having ordered the crispy chicken bowl that was amazing!
