Normally, I do not write reviews based off of customer service, but the customer service we received tonight was despiteful. Upon walking into an empty restaurant at around 8:15pm on 09/27, we were not greeted and the young girl wearing a brown long sleeve with glasses and a black hat rolled her eyes as we walked in. She walked out with our rice with an annoyed face and just threw it carelessly on the counter. When we ordered the unagi, she took the container angrily and slammed it on the table. She also gave me the world's smallest portion of seaweed. Her responses seemed very annoyed and angry when we mentioned what toppings we wanted. At the end, she threw the chopsticks and forks in the bag in a rude manner. I understand if some people are just having a bad day, but the customer is never to blame for this. The other employees were extremely nice (the young girl in the green frog hat and the young man in the Laker hat) to the other customers, so I don't understand why we got this type of treatment. read more

Went there at 6pm this weekend. Bought 2 large takeout bowls with the same rice, tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab, toppings and house dressing as we have done twice before during the week. Previously I gave this place 5 stars because the flavor, freshness and generous portions were beyond compare. This time the freshness wasn't so great. They were almost out of the albacore and yellow tail, and wouldn't replenish them just for us. The marinated seaweed, sweet onions and roe were sort of rubbery and bitter, instead of being crunchy and tart. The first time we were there a couple months ago the large Poke bowls were $11-12; now they are almost $15 ($17 with a small scoop of avocado) before taxes which is a little high, even for LA. Before I looked forward to going back for more, but not so much this time. Parking is only an issue if you go during peak times. read more

I have been eating a many different Poke places in the last three years. This is one of my favorite Poke places by far! I love the assortment of fish. They have my two favorites yellow tail and eel. Fish is NOT FRESH. I like poke. So have been to lots of poke places around LA. And for the first time they have not fresh salmon. It tastes as it was here for weeks. They just put it into special sauce - to remove the bad smell. It smells like nothing. It has a strange texture. And it went white color right away after putting into a dish. I was a bit skeptical cause I read some of the "still frozen fish" reviews, but that totally was not my experience. Walking in I was a bit intimidated cause the customers, and the girl working were all asian and I got some initial stares, ya know being a white guy they might be thinking " is he in the right place?". Luckily for me I love poke and was picking up my order. Everything was delicious, they young lady was polite, the place clean, perhaps a bit small inside but in my opinion nice and cozy. They even gave me chopsticks. Most asian food restaurants I order from never give me chopsticks cause maybe I don't look like I know how to use em (And I don't but I still like to get em to feel like part of the gang). I'm a poke virgin! Never had it before in my life. I don't even know the proper pronunciation...is it pōk, or päk, or pä-kē or pōkē. That's how much of a poke virgin I am, and up until now I don't know...my Hawaiian homies school me please! I'll tell you this though, I don't know how to say it but I know my belly sure didn't mind! Poke Rainbow is just off the BUSY intersection of Sepulveda and Sherman Way, tucked away in the Starbucks shopping plaza. Parking was a easy and the location was easy to find. Being new, it was clean and modern with the food set up sort of assembly line/Subway Sandwich style. Now mind you, I've NEVER had poke before so really didn't know what to expect, but this place had a lot of options. Your base could be as low/no or high carb as you want (rice, greens, quinoa, etc), followed by your protein (raw fish or tofu), toppings, and sauce(s). I chose white rice with salmon, tuna, shrimp, seaweed salad, avocado and edamame. Your carb base is laid out first, while the fish and toppings are hand mixed in a bowl then placed on top. For my naive poke self, it was like a sashimi salad...or unrolled sushi bowl - best way I can describe it. But it was good! I liked it, nothing tasted bad, was filling, and was cheaper than 1 fancy roll at a sushi place. I will say, that because they are eco-friendly and use compostable food containers, the warm/moist rice did sweat through my container just a bit on my 10 min drive home. The bottom definitely didn't hold up. The rice (I felt) was also really overly sticky...more sticky than I'm used to in other Asian or sushi restaurants. But this wasn't a huge deal for me. How long before the Poke craze blows over? Hard to say but before it does Poke Rainbow will have something to say about it. As a rule I must admit that I am usually skeptical of poke while you wait and AYCE sushi places. Anyone who thinks they are getting top notch sushi grade fish at a poke place is kidding themselves. I was realistic when I stumbled upon Poke Rainbow after skipping the Thai place that shares the same maddening parking lot. The owner seemed to be working that night and was super friendly as he went over the menu items. They did seem to have quite a large selection of fish and sides. Even the "hoity- toity" sushi places are preparing fish that has been flash frozen. There are some local caught and shelfish exceptions but it's rare. I opted for the Ahi and the Yellowtail. I thought the bowl as prepared was quite delicious. There was nothing off putting or off tasting as is so often the case with Poke fish. This is the second time I'm trying their poke and honestly it sucks. I ordered from postmates and they missed a lot of the toppings that I wanted. I wanted seaweed salad which they didn't put (my fiancé got seaweed salad and he had it in his so I know it wasn't because they were out), no pineapple, no onion, no ginger, their spring mix was so dry and disgusting I still had the taste in my mouth 3 hours later. I must say I was a bit unhappy with this new experience. Prices are fair but portions are horrible. Got a medium witch comes with 3 protiens maybe 1.5 ounces per portion. they uses the smallest scoops witch leaves you with pretty much a selection of rice, salad, or another base. The toppings and additions are the only thing giving this review 2 stars. The fish like previous posts did seem still so cold it was frozen... maybe turn your fridges down and or get a whole fish and do it properly. Spicy tuna was a ball of mush, Salmon was not up to par for something you'd want to eat fresh.. and the Ahi just seemed like it was sitting in its own water and or was just pulled and they had no time to defrost it. sauces and sides were good. there are to many options out there for this to be something that stands out. i was happy with the veggies and rice lets put it that way... 12 bucks later. read more

I was soooo excited when I saw a poke place was opening in this little cluster of Asian restaurants! Beware: the parking spots are tiny and the drivers aren't always the best but usually it's pretty easy to find one available. So i came during the soft opening & the menu is pretty standard to most other poke places I've been to. I got ahi tuna, salmon with spring mix and lotsa sides and toppings. My *only* complaint is the serving seems a bit smaller than what I'm used to but it was delicious nonetheless read more

I only have one major complaint which I hope they will fix. They serve yellowtail with the bloodline dark meat. I tried to ask the owner if they could just serve the white meat without the dark meat. His response was that it was sushi grade yellowtail. This may be true, but when I order yellowtail at a sushi bar, they cut off that red bloodline before serving the yellowtail. Otherwise this place gets a 4 or 5 from me. Help me out hamachi lovers and ask him to remove the bloodline before chopping up the yellowtail. 12/19/17 - yellowtail still has bloodline, but server was able to scoop up the good meat. Raising one star for effort. Once they get it figured out I'll give them a 5. As others have mentioned their size of scoop is small, but their price reflects the small size. read more
