Spicy, Seafood Rāmen scented with lemon grass. Haku Shika Junmai Ginjo Class Premium Sakè (sah keh)
Gary I.

Izakaya 居酒屋 means a gastropub/restaurant that serves all kinds of different Japanese foods that go well with Sakè (sah keh). So just about anything edible, that is Japanese, is fair game from raw to cooked. Rāmen Izakaya presents Japanese food through a Mexican and Southeast Asian filter. So I decided to sample representative food from those two regions. 1) Poblano Popper is mild, green Poblano chile, that is used in Mexican chile relleno, and Japanese spicy tuna filling that is flash broiled by a salamander. Drizzled with spicy mayo dressing and sweet eel sauce. Nice mix of green herbals, fatty, earthy, sweet meatiness. 2) Spicy Seafood Rāmen: Rubid hued, likely chicken broth based Lemongrass Chile Seafood Broth which has a good piquant kick and refreshing citrus aromatics. Wheat based Rāmen noodles are competently al dente. Accompaniments are Spinach, Bean Sprouts, Sweet Corn, Shrimp, Scallops, Calamari & Mussel, and an especially tasty chicken Gyōza. Satisfying without the rich, heavy, fatty TonkOtsu Rāmen style that has hours long cooked pork bones and fat that seems so popular in American Rāmen eateries 1-3a) Haku Shika Junmai Ginjo Class Sakè paired perfectly with the Izakaya foods. Touch earthy, chalky minerality, dulcet, ripe pear, refreshing acidity, scent of rice Kōji. Haku Shika means white deer in Japanese. Overall good Japanese food that may not hit all the traditional flavors and sensibilities due to its fusion approach, but it is an interesting experiment trying to bridge cuisines from two widely diverse continents. 4- stars

Spicy Miso with Beef

I had to do the cut California roll for an appetizer and I ate it so fast to disappeared man what a delicious roll. The music in this place is fantastic and they have a lot of seating the nice thing also? They have parking outback. But when it came down to why I was here which was the Ramen soup I had to have the spicy miso with beef now you get your choice of three separate meats, but I had to go for the beef and I would've eaten the table. It's a great place to come and eat. I love the atmosphere. They play great music.

Kids ramen, only broth and noodles

The spicy lemongrass vegan ramen and the lemongrass miso soup appetizer are so unique to this place. I'll come here every time just for this lemongrass miso - absolutely delicious! The service was great! She remembered everything from our lengthy order and didn't mess up any of the special requests. There were about 3 other families in the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The lighting is darker, which creates a nice respite from the sun and heat we were experiencing that day.

Friendly staff, I think it was the owner but he was very friendly and welcoming! Food was delicious to say the least, definitely recommend this place will be back soon! It looks very clean inside the decoration and ambiance was great! Overall 10/10 !!

I came alone at around noon on a Monday. The place was nice and peaceful, really nicely dimly lit and theres a corner for folks like me who eat alone. I ordered the Miso Lemongrass , Yakisoba Beef Noodles and Mochi Green Tea Ice Cream. The lemongrass miso was so good. It was my first time having that dish and there was so much flavor. Nice appetizer to start. The beef noodles were good. They were also lemony so I wouldnt pair it with the soup next time but they were good on their own. I don't really like ordering noodles because i can just make that at home lol but the portion was good and the flavors were nice so 10/10. The mochi ice cream was amazing. No complaints. The servers were also very attentive and even brought me a reading lamp since i had a book with me and kept my water and siracha topped off.

String Beans

Came in with my daughter for a late weekday dinner. Service was great--friendly and attentive. Surprisingly, the string beans were the star of the night: lightly fried with a salty-sweet-spicy sauce that was addicting. The ramen, though, was underwhelming. My daughter's Chicken Ramen had plenty of chicken but not much flavor. My Spicy Lime Chili Ramen packed heat and lime, but the pork broth was disappointingly bland after the first bite. Good thing I had more of that sauce from the string beans to dip my ramen noodles in! Maybe I ordered wrong. If someone twists my arm to come back, maybe I'll try to OG Ramen.

Cute hidden gem in the heart of the valley. Great happy hour specials, great service, and great tasting food. This place needs more recognition considering how great is Ramen Izakaya. The inside is very cute and nicely designed. Great place to take someone on a date *wink wink Valentine's Day is coming up. Great job Ramen Izakaya!

Spicy Miso Ramen with chicken and a Lychee Martini

Went with my daughter and ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, mine with chicken and hers with Beef. The egg didn't come standard so be sure to request it! The broth was delicious, cute spacious restaurant, and good service. I enjoyed dinner with the lychee martini.

Amazing ramen! One of the best I've had. Flavorful, great customer service and nice ambiance. Must try!

Staff is friendly and helpful. Food is great Tonkatsu ramen that we oredered is delicious, Karage chicken is just on par, nothing special as well as the seaweed salad . This is our first time and experience is great. Ambiance is more of a fusion of Japanese Mexican. Pictures of Danny Trejo and guys with tattoo. Happy hour on Sundays, 1-2 dollars of appetizer prices. Will be coming back if we are in the area. 4 stars because parking is Valet, just park on the streets.

The food is delicious, the service is excellent & friendly. The restaurant is clean and pretty! Bigger than I thought from the outside. 10/10 recommend. Van Nuys has great food.

Best Ramen soup hands down. And is the only place I will have it. Food is delicious, service is fantastic. Everything we've tried has been amazing. On top of that the owner Nori makes you feel welcomed. He has 2 places and we've been to both. Want more variety of drinks go to the Victory location. Oxnard location smaller but satisfies our appetite. My seafood ramen still taste the same. DELICIOUS. A definite must try. Bet you go back again for more.

We had a reservation but realized we didn't need it at that time. We were able to choose our table -- nice corner booth in front. Service started quickly. Given it was our first time here, we had to try the Howaito (Tonkotsu). The husband chose to have his spicy. We added the Make Me Special Roll to share. Our order came out quickly. It was all incredibly fresh! The ramen was AH-mazingly delicious. The broth was light, flavorful and satisfying. The roll was meticulously prepared and so good! Our server was very sweet and attentive. There's so much more to try from the menu. We look forward to coming back (very soon)! Free street parking close to the plaza was easy to find when we arrived but there were no open spaces by the time we left. There's underground parking nearby and some behind the plaza.

The sake we ordered (Dassai 45 - $28) was OUTSTANDING. The Howaito ramen and spicy tuna crispy rice were great and tasted classic. The lets gold roll was delicious and the truffle sauce that came with it was so good. The good vibes roll had too much lemon/yuzu flavor for me but was still nice. The cutlet was so crispy outside and SO juicy inside. Service was quick and kind!

There's a sign in the front clearly stating "no sushi" which was perfect because we weren't looking for that this time. I chose this spot because I've always wanted to try more home-style Japanese dishes which is what this place advertises. We were greeted immediately upon entering by the owner, Miki. She was great the whole time! Chatting with customers, including us, and cracking jokes. It was great to get to know her as we dined. The atmosphere is cozy, good for groups, small parties, and individuals as there's bar seating too. We decided to get the butter sautéed squid, grilled mackerel, karaage, sake steamed clams, and a zaru soba each. Miki said it was a very Japanese order haha. The squid was out quickly, followed by the karaage. The squid was served on a hot plate, sizzling hot! It was tender and chewy, and the sauce with it was delicious and so savory! We asked to keep the sauce for future dipping. The karaage was perfectly crisp and super juicy and moist inside. It went well with the provided fresh lemon and mayo dipping sauce. There was also a small refreshing side salad with it. Next came the clams and mackerel. Miki said we were eating so fast lol. The clams were plump and cooked perfectly. We removed them from their shells and dipped a few in the squid butter sauce. The broth was excellent. Super light but had deep flavors of clam. The mackerel was both our favorite part. Grilled perfectly and served with some grated radish and lemon. It was salty enough for me so I didn't use the provided soy sauce, and the lemon and radish really helped to lighten it up. It was a great combo of Smokey, salty, meaty with acidic and slightly bitter freshness! It was a generous portion of fish too. The soba noodles were also good and plenty. They were served with green onions, wasabi, and soy sauce dipping sauce. I think I've had better soba noodles that were house-made, but the broth brought them to the next level. We still had some room left in our stomachs so we decided to get an order of the vegetable tempura after Miki talked it up. It had super thin batter and was perfectly fried. There was green bean, orange sweet potato, Japanese sweet potato, eggplant (my favorite), and whole shiitake mushroom (second favorite). The dipping sauce was super salty, as it should be, and I sipped it lightly while eating the shiitake mushroom. Overall a light and comforting meal. It felt healthy and soothing, just like home. It's not the cheapest place, but it is worth it because you cant find many restaurants serving these items nearby! I'm ready to go back to try the sautéed mushrooms (Miki's favorite), curry (Miki recommended), agedashi tofu (another recommendation) and basically everything else!

We ordered the crunchy sushi roll, the spicy Totonsku and edamame . The food was delicious!!! We never been here before and didn't know what to expect . Edamame was warm and snappy . Crunch roll was on the bigger side, exactly what you expect of shrimp tempura and imitation crab . Lastly the soup , very very spicy . We asked the waitress for about 6-7 of spicy and I think we got like 9. I am not complaining I though, I think we needed the heat . We had to eat the soup with the edamame simultaneously: it was that hot . If you like spicy order the spicy tontonsku, and also order a Pinot Grigio to go with it. Best combination ever , the brightness of the wine would cool down my palate as a gulped the fire water from the soup . If you don't like spicy , make sure you tell them you want it less spicy . Overall : I'm intrigued and want to go back . I did not give it 5 starts because it was very quiet , there was no music ; we can hear the food being made in the kitchen. Which to me it's not a problem, but having some nice melodic tunes wouldn't hurt the ambience neither. Come to Tamashii House if you dare !

I ordered for an eel avocado cucumber roll with light rice. Unfortunately, they lack tamari sauce for those with wheat allergies and don't offer gluten-free noodle options. Despite the crowded restaurant, there were four servers wandering around, but we didn't even have the same server throughout our meal. We had four different people come to our table, which was quite confusing at times. I ordered a baked salmon roll to replace the soup It never arrived, and they still attempted to charge us at the end. Finally, we had to ask them to remove it from the menu. I would have loved this place if it had been more accommodating. The ambiance was charming, with a cozy booth and wooden decor throughout. The atmosphere was not too loud, which added to the comfort. However, I was disappointed that they didn't provide gluten-free noodle options. Honestly, I had high hopes for this restaurant, but it fell short of my expectations.

Seated in a rather interesting part of North Hollywood, the summer heat did not deter us from eating here, as the smell immediately brought my worries elsewhere. A vast majority of the food here was fantastic, and the only reason I was going to opt for 4 stars was the takoyaki had quite a tiny portion in the actual dough ball- despite the actual breading so soft and fluffy, it was like the most delightfully extravagant packaging for something that was a bit of a let down. Though, much to the credit of our waiter she understood and offered to swap it out for another appetizer, which probably deserves the vast majority of the praise here. The vegetarian dumplings we ordered were legitmately some of the best dumplings I've had period. From the vegan mayo to the best gentle heat I've ever had the experience I've eating.
