Granted, I've had poke only once before (in Hawaii), an experience which did not leave me with a great impression of the dish - I felt then that the fish was too salty and over-seasoned, the natural flavor of the fish was masked, and the chunks of fish were too large. However, with the recent upsurge in popularity poke seems to have been experiencing, I decided to try it again, this time at Poke Rainbow; I was not disappointed. Poke Rainbow exudes a sense of healthy dining. The proteins seem fresh and are lightly flavored (with sauces and condiments available on the side for those with a heavier/saltier palate), the sides and toppings (my first time trying crispy onion - a veritable success!) are great, the brown rice standard as rice goes, and everything was packaged neatly in a compostable (yay!) box. I got a small bowl with extra proteins, which included albacore, octopus, and spicy tuna. The spicy tuna was my favorite, and rest assured, I will be back for more. The albacore and octopus, mixed together with the yuzu ponzu sauce I ordered, was also great. The crab salad was creamy and refreshing, and the crispy onion topping provided some deliciously savory texture. I also noted the availability of kale and quinoa as a substitute for my rice for future visits. The healthy vibrancy of the foods was further enhanced by the dining experience. The cucumber water was a nice touch (especially nice on those stifling summer days, I presume), and the bright and modern furnishings felt clean and comfortable. I just passed by this place the other day I went to Van Nuys to visit my friend. Never expected this shop gave me a surprise of gourmet. The yellowtail and tuna I ordered is the freshest I have ever tasted in valley. The quinoa and beans are also wonderful with the sauce. I got a full box of stuff with order of only middle size. And the place is very clean and comfortable for the one like me who just wanna have a lunch quietly. The last not the least, the guy is pretty warmhearted and gave the smile all the time. ordered online and it was ready when I got there. fish was ok compared to other poke place I've been too... I ordered spicy tuna, it was bland need more seasoning? They run out of salmon so I ordered Ahi tuna, it was ok, not the freshest fish. But I love their options for toppings, I think that's the best part of my meal. I've been here twice and it's really really good. I live nearby so it's probably dangerous about how much I will end up here. The protein was fresh and their spicy mayo is great mixed in. They even gave me extra crab for no extra cost. The only con (I guess?) is that the folks who run it seem a little new but they are extremely friendly. So this is another stop on my tour of poke places around the valley. It's a nice little spot in Van Nuys and a break from the other types of cuisines offered in the neighborhood. The pricing here is pretty good compared to most for their large portion. You get 4 choices which is nice for variety, but I will say the protein portions are smaller than others I've been to. I would also say their toppings selection is also much smaller than most others. The thing that this place really has going for it is the flavors. I would say that the flavors of their proteins and sauce so rise slightly above the rest that I've been to. Even when mixed together, you can easily tell the flavor profiles apart, sauces and all. I would have placed this in the 5 star category if the protein portions were just a tad larger and they had a little larger section of toppings. Other than that, this is a good stop for poke in Van Nuys and I'll probably come back again next time I'm in the area. read more

I love poke bowls.I was very happy that they were opening soon across my work so I headed there when they first opened.Sadly I was disappointed.This place just gave me the feeling of business and no love in their actual food.portions are small and sauce portion for the bowl was given so small that it made my bowl flavorless.you have to ask for extra sauce to not have a dry meal.also the fish quality isn't great.the tuna looked too hot pink and the salmon a bit slimy.they need to get plastic containers too because they are better to eat from rather than the cardboard boxes,all my hot rice got stuck on it.i hope they make some changes so that I can get my poke/sushi fix here regularly. read more

Walked in, and the place seemed pretty popular to me during lunchtime. Most tables were filled. Service was nice, and the owners (they were both working) recommended some delicious combinations. Got a medium which was a good portion size, and wasn't too expensive. Loved the ahi tuna and yellowtail! Great selection of sauces, food, it really lets you make whatever poke you want, and it seemed as if additions to the menu were on the way.
