I've had a better Poke experience here than in Vancouver mainly cause although it is marketed as Raw bowl they did make some modifications for me while being healthy. This place is exactly what Ballard needed more of: quick, healthy take-out. And if you're not fond of Ballard's sushi options like me (very fusion-y, think lots of mayo and deep-fried stuff), Poke Square is a very welcome addition to the raw fish options around here. The poke itself is very good compared to other poke shops. Portions are generous, reasonably-priced, and very customize-able. Their website gives a good explanation of all the options. I highly recommend going Salmon-Tuna-Albacore with their house poke sauce and all of the toppings (avocado too, even though it's extra). I would go heavy on the sauce as I really couldn't detect the sauce flavor when I went with light (especially true if you get all the toppings). My only complaint was it was very hard to hear the people behind the counter. The ordering process could use a little streamlining, but they're new and I'm sure they'll figure it out! Was super excited to have this opening in Ballard to get my poke fix and am even more excited to find out it's great! It's the best poke I've had in Seattle and the closest I've found to the places in Hawaii that first made me fall in love. The fish feels really fresh and is super flavorful, and the sauce selections are fantastic - lots of taste but not too cloying. Shoutout to the super friendly Memorial Day staff and especially the employee who suggested the Spicy Ponzu/Sriracha Aioli mix (would recommend). Really cool Chipotle-style assembly line poke place. The ingredients tasted fresh and they offered a good variety of topping options especially for the price. I have been anticipating this place opening for quite a while. I've been to most of the well known Poke spots around Seattle, and while this Poke Square has great fish, the quantity was entirely underwhelming. For a "large" at $13, I hoped for more than, at most, 4 ounces of protein. I felt the excitement drain from me as I watched them plop down one ice cream scoop of each chosen protein. Granted, its the best flavor I've found so far, really fresh fish. I would try it at least once. Though if your looking to get filled up with something other than rice, this isn't the spot for you. Next time, I will just be going to central market and buying some flash frozen sashimi grade tuna and making my own, which is what I usually do. If they double the amount of protein, I would come here weekly. read more

I want to add that this place has pretty good quality fresh salmon. I liked the prices for the choices and quality you get( 2 proteins and basically any toppings), the yuzu sauce is good. I would ask to add jalapenos to the toppings menu, other than that this is a great New place especially in Ballard which really needed an affordable good poke place. The poke here is so good! One of the better places in our area. The fish actually tastes really fresh and it's not chewy. We chose brown rice as our bottom and you can choose from many different sauces and sides. We shared a bowl and both managed to get extremely full. The staff there was excellent! It's basically like a subway for poke. All of the ingredients are really bland. I just discovered poke through Sam Choy's (if you are a poke fan, it's a must try!), so following that up with Poke Square probably didn't help. I don't claim to be an expert on food, but I feel like when you go out to eat you shouldn't have to put in the extra effort to basically design your meal. That is the restaurants job. With plenty poke spots opening up in Seattle area, i stack this to 4 stars (for now) just because this is their first week there's room for improvement which many new shops tend to do. While there is the usual variety of toppings essentially one can add as many as one wants, the downfall was serving size of protein (fish etc) which is scooped from a weak utensil. As in, if the server made sure to pack it all the way it would be an 'okay' size but if they skimp out for whatever reason one would feel like they got shafted. Overall, paired with rice it's definitely filling however I think it would have been better with either bigger pieces or bigger spoon servings. Being from the islands I know how real poke is, and this is pretty decent for playing on par with some of the other joints opening up around at least in the Seattle area. Recommended! read more

I should have assumed it was based on the price, but the website appears to show a picture of real crab and nowhere does it state that it is actually imitation crab. I recommend checking out their menu online in advance so that the number of questions they have while building your perfect poke bowl doesn't throw you. I liken it to Subway, but POKE!! The Poke Artists will start with a base (I like white rice with the seasoning), then the protein (spicy tuna and albacore is my jam), dressing (I go with a mix of the medium house sauce and wasabi aioli), I do it up with the sides and toppings. My husband I love this place! The workers are really nice, and make great conversation. They are also really great for new comers to Poke. We brought my family from the Midwest, and they answered a lot of questions and made great suggestions to find something they would like. The proteins are delicious. My favorite are salmon, spicy tuna, and scallops. I like the sriracha aioli and my husband likes the wasabi aoili. The regular size bowl is almost too much to eat. we went here today for lunch - overall experience was okay. the staff was friendly but didn't seem to have a good enough sense for how poke bowls were made or what seasonings go where / why. i'd recommend they check out some other places to sound more experienced when dealing with customers. quality was good though fish portions were ridiculously small for a regular bowl ($11) knocking another star because i found hair in my food, though to managements credit he apologized immediately and refunded me for the bowl. pro tip to mgmt - maybe have your servers wear hair nets especially given many of them had long hair (even the men) read more

I have tried other poke spots in Ballard and this by far is the best. I live in the area and I've eaten here well over 10 times now. One thing I've noticed is the change in staff. Personally I started off working in the restaurant business and one big no go is for employees to say they've never eaten at the restaurant they work... What! This leads to multiple questions of employee benefits/discounts and lack of passionate employees. Someone who is to come in who has never experienced poke could be misguided by employees and not return. Yikes! Some may not like the fact that the Poke is not marinated but I prefer mine fresh anyways. Ordering process similar to other Poke places but the fact that it's in Ballard and is fast, fresh and reliable is one simple reason to try it.
