Ya'll.. this place is NOT it. First of all, 17$ after tax for a small bowl? GTFO. The bowls are SO small, probably 6 inch diameter, so they gave me such a small amount of spring mix, (container wouldn't house more) and I ran out of my base and had tons of topping left with nothing to put it on. Next, the spicy tuna and spicy crabmeat are just like 40% sauce, almost just melt all over everything, creating a mushy mess. The pineapple and mango just tasted off, not fresh, kind of hard. I don't know, I just wasn't a fan. Especially for the price point. I took my bowl of toppings home and I'm going to eat them with chips, but.. I just don't get it. Came here to get food, and there was a young guy apparently a new employee which was not trained properly that was changing out the food bowls without any gloves on and he was sticking his fingers with his dirty fingernails into all the food. none of the employees wear gloves at this location. And half of them all have a long acrylic nails which is absolutely ridiculous and disgusting. there's clearly no food handling training or safety at this location. Set up like every other Poke restaurant out there. Walk down the line and pick your ingredients. What I liked about this place, a large bowl was $15 and it was large. To be completely transparent and honest, I was going to go to a different restaurant in the area, but decided to head here instead. Atmosphere was off, air felt stuffy, doors open. Prices are steep, and the part that threw me off was the fish man. I couldn't do it. After one bite, I threw it all out. I've worked with fish a good chunk of my career, and I blame myself for even purchasing the fish as I noted the discoloration in the tuna. Still tipped for some reason, just who I am man. The portions were generous and the staff were very friendly. There are a great variety of toppings and sauced.. you will likely find something you like! The salmon was fresh. They mix all the the toppings first in a separate bowl before putting on the rice. The taste is good but the process uses a new glove for every customer which means they go through hundreds of plastic gloves. This would be the only area I suggest they change. I love Poke U & Me. The food is great and always my favorite place to stop & get a Poke Bowel. However, the service tonight was terrible & I won't be coming back to this location. I came in with my mother to order four poke bowels. One for each of us & two for family members at home. From the beginning of our order we were rushed. Mind you, we got to the place at 8:20 pm so it was not close to closing time. I don't believe people should have high anxiety when it comes to ordering food. You'd think okay maybe she was being rushed for having a huge order with a whole bunch of people in line behind her. Was this the case? Nope. The Ventura location is night and day compared to this one...Their counters where the food is are REALLY grimy and dirty at this location. The staff doesnt seem all there either. This place is so good! And generous too! They have lots of toppings to choose from, as well as numerous sauces/combinations. I usually stop in for lunch and get my bowl to go, so I never eat in, but the place has tables if you are dining there. The workers are friendly and efficient. They provide fast service too, which is nice because my lunch is only 30 mins. I'm always back to work on time. The selections look and taste fresh, so that's also a big plus. Before I came to this place today. I went to another pokey place nearby. I had to leave due to the very fishy smell and lack of a neat environment. Their fish did not look fresh and I felt uncomfortable. (I am not mentioning their name and did not Leave a review because I did not taste their food). Then I remembered there was another pokey place so I went to check out poke U and me. As I walked in and with my fiancé, I felt a sense of relief. This place looked immaculate and very clean. It also did not smell fishy and their fish looked very fresh. They also had some creative choices, like ceviche and their Cajun Tuna which was amazing. I had a salad with three proteins and there are vegetables were also very crisp and fresh. They give you so much food, you will also have leftovers for the next day. They also had over 10 choices of dressings and oils for your salad. I was very impressed with the quality of food they were serving and the amount you get for what you paid for. I have been to a lot of pokey restaurants and it's very hard to find ones that you feel comfortable with. Finding fresh fish is difficult these days. LOL. As Yelp says: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" This poke stands out among the others we've tried. Poke U & Me offers the best variety, the inside is bright, very fresh ingredients, and the service is top notch. Plus it's a unique approach to offer sauce mixtures chosen and named after the employees. This helps tremendously, because with all those choices where does one begin? Our mix-ins were really large, practically falling over the edge of the bowl, but then again we selected all of them. The proteins include salmon, albacore, spicy albacore, seared ahi, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, shrimp ceviche, octopus, spicy & scallops, and tofu. This is the first poke place that we've visited which offered brown, jasmine and sushi rice. There must have been 15 bottles of sauces. Some other interesting ingredients we hadn't seen were mango, spinach, and fried garlic. I dare you to limit your add-ins to less than six different things! And if you are overwhelmed by all the colors and textures, then don't worry! We've poke-eed before so we didn't need help. But I heard the crew patiently walking through the entire process with several novices. All the choices, and trays full of unfamiliar sides might seem daunting. But hey, the wide variety provides plenty of incentive to return. That way, over time, you can be sure to fine tune your preferred bases, sauces, fillers, and toppings to get exactly the flavor which lights up your palate. Other pluses? Plenty of parking, outdoor seating, good people watching, central Camarillo location by Trader Joes, and the clean & fresh appearance that go along with a newly opened spot. Comment: Our preference is for fresh fish to be cut in slightly bigger chunks than the ones offered here. Other places keep the pieces larger. That's not a complaint though. Just helps us enjoy the flavor and texture more. And after all, since the portions are intentionally measured by the scoop, smaller pieces give the customer more bang for the buck. Those scoops will probably hold just a couple more of the smaller cubes of fish. More fish for us; that's a win! Yes, I agree this shop is a tad more expensive than the other places we've visited, but with all these good points, it's worth it. I urge you to stop by, but don't be in a rush.
