Half eaten Poke Bowl - Small with salmon and scallops hehe
    Ryan R.

Sorry my photo was taken after I'd already started eating, but I wanted to show how their salmon and scallop aren't pre-marinated like most poke places I've tried. I got a half salad, half brown rice base with toppings like corn, carrot, green onion, edamame, house kimchi, and cucumber. The house mild sauce was just okay. Overall, the poke bowl was fairly average. Seating is limited with rows of seats along the walls, and they only accept cash for orders under $20. The employees were friendly, and the price for a small was affordable.

Medium choose your own proteins bowl, with spicy tuna, ahi tuna, salmon, kimchi, brown & white rice.

Delicious and extremely affordable poke right at the intersection of Van Ness and Market streets. This is a mainly to go spot with limited communal seating. They have tons of protein options, including seared fish options for your poke. I got a medium bowl because it came with 3 scoops of fish, which was a decent amount. I chose salmon, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, half brown and white rice but a smaller amount as I was watching my calories. I chose two sauces, green onions, kimchi (I adore good kimchi), and crispy garlic. The fish was heavenly. The salmon was like butter, it just melted with eat bite, and everything tasted fresh. The brown rice had a really nice and nutty flavor and I actually liked it better than the white rice. The kimchi was good, but it was a tad bit sweeter than I am used to, so I wonder if it was made by the restaurant rather than store bought or commercially made. I really enjoyed this poke bowl and I enjoyed the price of $16 bucks and change for a filling medium sized bowl. This is much cheaper and more affordable than I've seen at other poke places around the Bay Area. This is a great spot to get poke to go and take home or have for lunch at work. They also have cooked items like various soups and rice plates. I will be checking this place out again. I definitely recommend checking it out for delicious, affordable poke. The staff were super helpful and were very kind when I told them how good the food was.

Had a random craving for some poke and Pokebola did the trick! I had Spicy Tuna and Salmon with Brown Rice, Greens and most of the free toppings! Was definitely fresh and a quick place to grab a poke bowl. It's literally off Van Ness so good luck with street parking! You're better off walking there if you can.

Pokebola has been a go-to lunch spot for me, but it has its ups and downs. On a positive note, the poke bowls are often good, with the fish usually tasting fresh. However, there have been times when the fish seemed a bit freezer-burned, which was disappointing. The portion size depending on who is working can skew more towards rice, and sometimes overshadow the fish and toppings. The prices have climbed noticeably over the last few years, which might not be ideal if you're keeping an eye on your budget. On the service front, the staff is generally friendly and quick to serve, though it's important to plan your visit, as they sometimes close early, which can catch you off-guard. The ambiance is simple and straightforward. While the restaurant is clean and well-lit, the neighborhood can be a bit unpredictable, with the occasional incident of someone casually taking pastries or other items. Despite this, the spot remains a decent choice for a quick meal, with enough seating for a brief stop. Overall, Pokebola offers a convenient poke experience without too much fanfare. While not the best I've had, it does the job when I'm craving poke and don't want to wander too far. Just keep in mind the potential for a less-than-perfect meal or unexpected closures if you're planning a visit. edit: Recently also the unexpected closures (closes somewhere between 820-850) are frustrating

I com here weekly for a great quick and healthy lunch option! The staff is always super friendly and I'm amazed by their ability to read long order forms or take orders verbally and get everything right when there are so many options! Also love the hip-hop music usually playing. If you're looking for an order recommendation, my go-to is a large with half brown rice and half mixed greens, 2 scoops of salmon, 1 scoop of 1 tuna, and 1 scoop of shrimp with the house spicy sauce + whatever toppings you like!

The food is fresh and there are many soys to choose. And there are not only raw fish but cooked food. Definitely would try more.

Ahi Tuna and Spicy Tuna with spicy miso sauce

Oh my gosh this bowl was really really good! I got an ahi tuna and spicy tuna bowl for only 13.75 and it filled me up, I still have a little extra left. The service was good too, very friendly. The place was also very cozy and modern looking and was fun to be in.

Looks so good but does not taste great. Disappointed.

I was looking for a healthy dinner option. The pics look so good and even when I got my own food it looked amazing. However, when I ate it, it really lacked flavor. I did the build your own bowl with everything I normally get at other places and it did not hit. The edamame was hard like it wasn't even cooked at all.

This is a small to-go business. The service is kind of like a create-your-own poke bowl concept with other entree options as well! I got the poke bowl with salmon and seared salon, and it was delicious. It was a good price for the size, and there were so many free toppings to choose from!

Pokebola is pretty good and the prices are pretty good. I was on Van Ness to attend the opera tonight. I decided on the kani surimi crab bowl. It was nicely concocted with a sauce, sesame seeds, edamame, crab, pineapple, a slice of tomago. etc. They even have oshinko. My questions to the server: "Wasn't this the Subway before?" I don't know... She was reading from a piece of paper to know the recipe. The other lady said "we charge for a bag and extra takeout boxes were an extra charge.." ehhh The menu is interesting and not really overpriced for another Hawaiian rice bowl spot. I would go to Big Fish Little Fish at Westfield Union Square. Also, the store is named after "ebola" hahah after covid..Poke ebola..haha

The first time I came here, I tried their salmon bowl. It was overly salty, fish skins and all attached. I thought I'll give them a try again and find myself enjoying their burned end brisket bowl. I also want to try their shrimp tempura. Even though I don't eat raw seafood, there are plenty of cooked bowls to try. I love the different options of rice, sides and salads you can add to your bowl. I'll be back!

Also, nothing is served with mac salad... The prices are pretty decent for SF. Maybe that's why this place is popular. They are takeout only and have one bench outside for you to eat at if it's free. Tried the garlic shrimp, the moco loco (idk why they swap the words), and the furikake chicken. Also had a spam musubi (when I ordered online for pick up, I couldn't add egg which is usually an option according to the Toast website). The garlic shrimp was missing a flavor that Hawaii has in their garlic shrimp. The color was very red but it was not spicy. They do have an option to make it spicy though. It was bland to me compared to what I'm used to when I visit Hawaii. The moco loco gravy was good, but the beef patty tasted dry and overcooked. They did have a runny egg too but it was oddly underneath the patties, so we broke the eggs while trying to split the beef amongst 3 people. The furikake chicken is probably better if you eat it right away since it's lightly breaded. We took it home so by the time we ate it, it was soggy. The sauce it is cooked in is a little sweet and wasn't too bad. The soggy chicken ruined the texture for me though. Each dish was served with a little bit of cabbage which I liked to get a little greens in the meals. The spam musubi didn't taste like it had any sauce, and they used so much furikake underneath the spam, that it made it taste fishy. Would not recommend. I can't comment on the service much since I ordered online for pickup. The guy who handed me my food after asking my name was nice and polite though. The only reason I'd come back is to try to the shave ice. The group in front of me got 3 for their kids, and it looked tasty. I would not come back for the food, but at least the prices aren't bad for SF standards.

This was our view from the bar and it served as the backdrop to our entire dining experience. We had been wanting to visit this restaurant for quite some time, and after finally making it in, we left wondering why we had waited so long. Everything on the menu sounded really appetizing, which made it difficult to narrow it down and choose. Thankfully, to help first timers like us, the Tasting Menu offered a curated selection of items from each section on the menu. First things first... the cocktails. I ordered a Fhloston Paradise, a perfect blend of kõ hana agricole rum, coconut liqueur, falernum, lime and absinthe; just enough sweetness for my palate. It was appreciated with every sip, but went down more smoothly than expected and I was already eyeing my next drink. Having a husband that loves watching me enjoy life was the first to suggest another drink. Sitting at the bar (our favorite place to sit btw), was the second encourager as the drinks were made right in front of me. One caught my eye... BUT... it was a mocktail. Not a worry in my mind as I asked our wonderful bartender if he could make it an "un-mocktail". So... the "Bittersweet Life" turned into a rum filled "Sweet Life"! He painstakingly made every effort to make sure my drink came out perfect, exactly how I like it... sweet. Bravo to your attention to detail! One word to describe our dining experience here is "fragrant". From the aromatic bouquet of the cocktails to the enticing scents rising from each beautifully plated dish, every course engaged the senses before the first sip or bite was even taken. Our Tasting Menu included these items: *Tuna poke *Caviar Taro Puff *Duck Liver Mousse *Pig Head Croquette *Halibut Sashimi *Gulf shrimp *Local black cod *Daikon cake (not on the printed menu) *American Wagyu Zabuton *Sesame cracker (not on the menu) *Baked Hawaii (not on the menu) We enjoyed our evening so much that we're already looking forward to returning. With so many enticing dishes still left to explore, this certainly won't be our last visit.

I pass this place all the time, but the parking is terrible, so I usually just keep driving. Yesterday I happened to be on foot and finally stopped in. I noticed a PASS inspection sticker in the window (isn't it usually an A? I'll Google that later). It's strictly a food shop. No tables, no décor, nothing fancy. Just a big menu on the wall type of place. The menu is simple about 4-5 meat options and a few sides, and you build your combo. I ordered a small plate since I tend to overeat and appreciated that option. I got the chicken katsu with rice and mac salad and it was perfectly portioned. The chicken was great. No notes. The steamed rice was just a little overcooked but still tasty. The mac salad was decent, though I expected a bit more from what seemed like an authentic spot. Oh and of course, the sauce, so good. My only complaint is they need to pack two sauces in the to go bag, not one. Total came to $10.85, which feels like a steal. It completely satisfied me and definitely beats driving all the way to Chipotle (my usual lunch stop) and spending $15-$18. No photo because I was too hungry and ate it in the car.
