Tried this spot because of the good reviews. But if you have been to Hawaii, I can't recommend this spot because the flavors did not remind me of Hawaii at all. Also, nothing is served with mac salad... The prices are pretty decent for SF. Maybe that's why this place is popular. They are takeout only and have one bench outside for you to eat at if it's free. Tried the garlic shrimp, the moco loco (idk why they swap the words), and the furikake chicken. Also had a spam musubi (when I ordered online for pick up, I couldn't add egg which is usually an option according to the Toast website). The garlic shrimp was missing a flavor that Hawaii has in their garlic shrimp. The color was very red but it was not spicy. They do have an option to make it spicy though. It was bland to me compared to what I'm used to when I visit Hawaii. The moco loco gravy was good, but the beef patty tasted dry and overcooked. They did have a runny egg too but it was oddly underneath the patties, so we broke the eggs while trying to split the beef amongst 3 people. The furikake chicken is probably better if you eat it right away since it's lightly breaded. We took it home so by the time we ate it, it was soggy. The sauce it is cooked in is a little sweet and wasn't too bad. The soggy chicken ruined the texture for me though. Each dish was served with a little bit of cabbage which I liked to get a little greens in the meals. The spam musubi didn't taste like it had any sauce, and they used so much furikake underneath the spam, that it made it taste fishy. Would not recommend. I can't comment on the service much since I ordered online for pickup. The guy who handed me my food after asking my name was nice and polite though. The only reason I'd come back is to try to the shave ice. The group in front of me got 3 for their kids, and it looked tasty. I finally tried this place as I always been admiring the food photos posted on the windows and wow, they are good. I tried their special and great flavors of the pineapple sausage with spicy garlic butter sauce, cabbage and rice . I licked the plate clean! . Nothing tasted terrible, but the chicken wasn't very good, and the shrimp had very little flavor once peeled. They were also out of Spam musubi, and the menu options were pretty limited. Our Christmas luncheon was catered by Little Aloha. I've had them bookmarked for awhile but haven't been yet. I actually wanted to go for the shave ice, so the luncheon catered by them was a nice surprise. There was garlic shrimp, furikake chicken, tofu poke, steamed cabbage, hurricane tots, and steamed rice from Little Aloha. The garlic shrimp was good as was the furikake chicken. Almost as good as having it back on the 'aina. The tots were a strange menu item. The arare on top threw me off, and tots are just rarely found on the menu in Hawai'i. The standout to me was the tofu poke. My coworker noted that it was a cross Btwn having mac salad and poke but no Mac involved, and I can totally see where she got that from. Funny enough I don't know if it was labeled from the restaurant or our hosts but it said "jasmine rice" on the label. It was clearly NOT jasmine rice bc most "Hawaiian" food establishments don't serve jasmine rice but some kind of medium grain as it sticks together: Hinode, Nishike, Botan, Kokuho Rose. I need to go to the actual spot for more tofu poke and maybe shave ice. read more

Finally found a place in the city that isn't part of a huge Hawaiian BBQ chain and actually serves really good food. Little Aloha feels like a modern mom-and-pop shop with heart. They even have a self-ordering kiosk tucked in the corner which is super convenient when it gets busy. I was excited to see they offer shaved ice and their prices are very fair, especially if you want to sample a bit of everything from their main entrees. I loved both the loco moco and the furikake chicken. The portions were generous and I really appreciated that they give you a side of lightly seasoned cabbage mixed in instead of the usual macaroni salad. That said, I won't lie because I do miss the mac salad and kind of wish they made it too. This is mainly a takeout spot since there are no tables inside, but there's a bench out front and a nice park just half a block away. I definitely recommend parking near the park so you can avoid the hassle of metered street parking. It's free there and makes the whole pickup process easier. The staff inside are super friendly and the energy they give off really matches the food. The chicken was fresh with a perfectly crunchy coating and the poached egg under the meat patty in the loco moco was done beautifully. It mixed into the rice so well. Speaking of rice, theirs was cooked perfectly! You could taste each individual grain and it had that just-right texture, not hard or mushy. I'm really happy I found this place. It's the kind of spot that you can tell is run with a lot of care and passion. Everything from the food to the way they treat their customers just feels warm and welcoming. I appreciate that they offer both half and full orders; I felt like the portion of the full was reasonable but would have appreciated some more shrimp and sausage. The garlic shrimp was DELICIOUS--it reminded me of the ones I had in Hawaii. The flavor was so good, and the sauce soaking into the rice was also amazing. The pineapple sausage was fine but not something I would necessarily order again; I would probably get all shrimp in the future. Overall, I felt like it was a solid meal for a decent price. Service was extremely fast; we basically got our order a few minutes after placing it. This small, hearty grab-and-go spot is located along a street with several other quick bite options and just a few blocks down from the beach. Inside, if you're familiar with Hawaiian snacks, you'll know they've got the good stuff here -- from candy to Hurricane Popcorn. The cashier was patient and sweet while waiting for us to decide what we were going to order. We ended up getting a shaved ice, chicken katsu, shrimp scampi, and the loco moco. If you're ordering both food and shaved ice, and it's not busy, I suggest ordering your food first and then ordering the shaved ice separately afterward -- or asking for the shaved ice to come out later. For us, it was the first thing that came out, leaving us with no choice but to eat it first. We got guava and mango with a snow cap. I had high hopes for this shaved ice, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations compared to places like Ululani's and Waiola. Even though we added a snow cap, it seemed as though the condensed milk was either watered down or they didn't add enough for our liking -- we probably could have asked for more. However, there was plenty of syrup in the shaved ice, even at the bottom, so there was no lack of flavor there. For the shrimp, I ordered the regular garlic shrimp don with the spicy sauce on the side. The shrimp itself was cooked well but was a bit bland. I absolutely fell in love with the spicy sauce -- it tasted similar to the Buldak ramen sauce but less spicy, so you could eat the whole thing without dying. The fried chicken dish was okay, not my favorite. The loco moco, however, was quite disappointing. Overall, I had high hopes for this place, but it just doesn't compare to what's available in Hawaii itself. I can't eat this all the time, but it does hit some degree of satisfaction each time my husband and I do takeout here. I usually order the Shrimp & Sausage main, which comes with housemade garlic butter (delicious and addictive), and pineapple sausage, which is quite the sweet and salty combo. My husband always gets the Loco Moco, which is also very satisfying. Even if you get the full order with two patties, they only give you one egg FYI. We also somewhat like the furikake fries, but only because I feel like we're always craving a side, but they don't have anything like mac salad. They do have Spam Masubi, which is delicious too. We've had the purple potato salad before, and it was no big deal unfortunately- skip that one. They have the Shaved Ice too, which is DELICIOUS and very, very satisfying, if you're craving that little taste of Aloha. However, you can't order it ahead of time with the food - you basically have to order it when you arrive, which did take forever for the server to make it for me (bizarre since I was the only customer in there, he was the only cashier, someone else was cooking preparing the hot food, and THAT food was also ready for me on the counter). They have all the true flavors of Lilikoi, Blue Hawaii, Lychee, POG, etc. You can pick a few flavors, which is helpful. If you want to add ice cream, which I would, you have to pay another $2.50. The whole Shaved Ice dessert, even if you order the small one (and it's HUGE!), will still come out to about $9.50 with tax etc., which is super annoying...it's just expensive Suggestions for improvement? I wish they had more Hawaiian plates to choose from. There aren't many dishes here, some favorites I was hoping for include the Macaroni Salad, Chicken Katsu, Poke, Chicken Teriyaki, Galbi, etc. Those are a lot of items that seem pretty typical for a Hawaiian cuisine restaurant. DoorDash prices are higher even for pick-up, and not ~0.50 like I sometimes see. FYI. I ordered via DoorDash for the buy one, get one hash browns. One of the best things is about this place is the price - whereas everything in the City is so super expensive, this place is pretty reasonably priced - I have a relative who lives near by, we've been here a few times. Also portions are good sized, which I love because so many places, especially in this area give you those tiny portions where you pay a lot but leave still hungry.
