I love sushi but didn't think I would like poke because of the texture. But one poke bowl at PokeDoke has made me a fan for life. Everything is super fresh, and you can get several different types of protein, including spicy tuna, shrimp and tofu. The add ins are flavorful and range from the typical - ginger, crispy onions - to the unique - kimchi. I suggest the spicy mayo sauce, but they also have gochugang, which is all the rage in the foodie world. You can eat-in or take your bowl to go. I hit up this spot this past Saturday before a day of bowling. Not a bad poke spot, but there were some missteps. First off, I love the customization and how you can really make the bowl yours. The amount of free options is pretty vast, although a regular 3 protein scoop bowl and a fountain drink can run you $19. The rice, while warm, was overcooked. Mushy with no texture. I also got half soba noodles which were also overcooked and congealed together. They didn't seem like they were made that day. My 3'rd protein option was the spicy tuna which seemed like more of a purée instead of chopped by hand. I also didn't detect any surimi or imitation crab in my bowl. The sauces were great and very flavorful. Also liked the option of adding furikake or togarashi. Overall, there isn't much competition so they don't have to blow expectations out the water or lower their prices, but it's a decent spot. read more

A pure disappointment if you are looking for Taro Tea. First sip was all powder. Second sip was hard boba. Third sip tasted rotten. I actually bought 2 because after a hard day of work sometimes I like to grab some taro tea as a little pick me up. I tried the second one and it almost tasted rotten. $13.50 wasted and just a real disappointing rest of the day. If you can't make the drink right just don't offer it. I imagine the food is probably decent, but after this experience I don't know if I really want to come back to try it. read more

I went to Taste of Saint Louis and i got some poke at Pokedoke. I was very disappointed. I have worked in restaurants for more than 15 years and I think the poke was a scam. I ordered a temperatura shrimp poke. I paid $ 18. First, there was not tempura and the shrimp was not peeled at all. I am not talking about the tail. The whole shell was there. Second, there was macaroni and cheese in the poke. That is ridiculous. The whole container had rice, macaroni and shrimp with shell. I understand that people who are selling food need to make money. But they need to be honest and serve a nice dish because it was a restaurant price. However, they were serving rice and macaroni and calling it a poke. That is a scam. I have eaten very good poke all over the country. But the poke was server by PokeDoke was a joke. I do not recommend this place because the food was horrible. Pretty good poke. One of the better places we have been to traveling to different cities. Ingredients are fresh and many options to chose from. Portions are generous. The small gives you two protein options. Even the small was very generous. A la carts menu give you some hot appetizer choices. We got potstickers and crab Rangoon. Great quality Poki Bowl. I ordered a large build your own bowl with Ahi Tuna and Salmon and it was indeed worth every penny. They do not skimp out on ingredients and make sure the bowl is filled to the tippy top. Taste wise, it hit everything that I would expect from a high quality Poki bowl. The good: - Always super friendly service! - The imitation crab is sweet and tasty - Mango is a perfect addition to your bowl - White rice is my top choice for the base - The tiny sliced cucumbers are delicious - The edamame is terrific - Get. The. Eel. Sauce. The bad: - The avocado: they add a *liquid preservative* to prevent browning that *made my tongue tingle.* Tingling typically indicates spoilage, but in this case, it's to prevent it. It was a very uncomfortable feeling and a highly unpleasant taste that almost completely masked the flavor of the avocado. It's $1 extra and though I scraped off the scoop I had in my bowl and tossed it, and was given a side of a "made today" batch, it was also largely inedible. Imho, just SKIP IT. Unless they eventually ditch the odd tasting (citrus-esque) preservative. The ugly: - The raw salmon has visible white threads in it that, when bitten in to, feel like you've gotten a couple of pieces of dental tape mixed in with your food. I haven't experienced this elsewhere - e.g., at any sushi place, where I've eaten raw salmon. Overall, I really like this restaurant. Just as good as any poke spot I tried in San Diego and there are many of them I have had there! I was worried this would be a valient effort but no cigar in STL. PokeDoke surprised me twice now with take out orders. I do 4 scoop size poke bowls and no two are ever the same. Love the customization you can work with on their menu to keep it changing. Fresh and delicious. First time trying out the place, so I got a large which was four scoops of meat/ fish items and toppings to go on top, like at subway. It was huge so I could not finish my bowl. The based was rice (white or brown), soba noodle, wonton chips, or salad. Then your scoops if protein, based sauce of mild, medium, or spicy, choice of cucumber or onions or both, your choices of toppings and "drizzle" your sauce garnish. My large was $14 but it was definitely worth the price from all I have on it. Plus it is fresh seafood after, so you can't go stingy in fish unless you planning a day in the bathroom. I've been wanting for poke to arrive in St. Louis for a few years, so I was excited to see PokeDoke pop up on Yelp. Sort of like Chipotle or Subway meets sushi, you pick the items you want and watch as its being prepared. I ordered a regular size bowl with brown rice and was allowed to pick up to three scoops of proteins. I chose the spicy tuna, octopus and shrimp with spicy sauce and added seaweed, edamame, ginger, wasabi, cucumbers, crabmeat, spicy mayo and sesame seeds. This thing was packed with spicy, delicious goodness! I was surprised at how much I got in a regular sized bowl, so next time I might just go with a small bowl. I've been wanting to try poke doke since I first saw it hit the yelp scene. However, I was concerned it might not live up to the hype. Well, it does live up to the hype. I chose the small size (2 poke scoops) and opted for double spicy tuna, white rice, cucumbers, spicy poke sauce, green onions, fried onions, seaweed salad, crab, masago, and spicy mayo. So. good! I was completely satisfied hunger-wise after eating the small but, because it was so delicious, I could've easily eaten a medium....maybe a large. I feel bad for lowering the rating, but this place is the worst poke joint I've ever been to. Sure, I'm not expecting California poke standards, but PokeDoke is worse than mediocre (compared to places on both coasts and in between). Here we go: - The bowl is overpriced. $10 for the smallest 3 scoops I've ever seen in my life. They used what was essentially a teaspoon-sized scooper. I thought it was a joke initially when I saw the amount of fish "scooped". There's a miserable attempt to cover this up by immediately mixing the fish with miscellaneous stuff. - The fish was... meh. It was just bland, and not that fresh at all. If I wanted good fish, I would go for sashimi at Koi Sushi right down the street, or Sapporo 2 on Lindell. - The add ons and sauce flavorings are fine, and just that. Take a look at how small the serving is compared to the size of the bowl itself on the pic. Why even bother giving that size of a bowl then? - The boba may be even worse than the bowl, which I also didn't think was possible. Take a look at the disgusting clumped boba in the pic. On my third try there, the boba was completely undercooked and hard. If this place can't get boba right after 3 separate visits, it doesn't deserve another try from me. If you need some poke in your life, do yourself a favor and go to Blk Mkt Eats instead. It's fusion (if you care), tastes darned good, and actually gives a reasonable amount of fish. read more

I love love looove this place. You can really customize it to however you like. The location is wonderful so if you go to work in the CWE you should stop by and try it. I don't really see that many poke places popping up so I'm glad I have one so accessible. I've meet the owner and he is such a down to earth guy that really cares about his customers. There are various options for fish lovers (you can choose between 2 different types of proteins even if you get the small) and even tofu and chicken if you don't eat raw fish. My favorite toppings are the seaweed salad. Must have sauce combo I have discovered over numerous trips, if you get anything out of this review, let it be this information: spicy mayo and eel sauce, sounds weirds, but trust me. read more

Poke was very tasty, and a pretty generous serving size (relative to other poke places I've been to, albeit those are in Philly and Seattle, not places in St. Louis). I got a regular bowl with white rice, salmon and tuna, and toppings. If you're just looking to eat a poke bowl, I'd say this is a 5-star place to go. I got a Thai bubble tea, too - this is where they lost one star for me. The tea itself was not bad, and was even on the less sweet side (a good thing in my book), but the amount of tapioca was laughable, to be honest. For $5 I expect at least double the amount of tapioca that was in my cup. This is the first time I've ever run out of tapioca before hitting the quarter-full level of beverage! If anything, at most places, I usually have to scramble at the end to get more tapioca with each sip. I like this place better than Black Market Eats (I think I also gave them 5 stars) because I like the toppings here better, almost all of the toppings are included, the wait seems shorter even when busy, and there's more seating. I've been here twice and both times got a small bowl (2 scoops of protein) and was able to get full and take home the remaining potion for another meal later. I've only had the octopus and shrimp because I can't eat raw fish while pregnant and don't want to eat the tofu. I would recommend getting the white rice over the brown; the brown rice seemed a tad bit undercooked and was somewhat too chewy (maybe they didn't soak it in water long enough before cooking). I love that they have seaweed salad here as a topping! I asked for extra both times and the employee was happy to accommodate. I also got the fried onions, masago, and a whole bunch of other stuff. TL:DR: Healthy, fresh, and quick. Tasty if you get combinations right. Best combos will have something savory, sweet, and crunchy. This place is amazing. Everyone is extremely friendly and the fish is super fresh for the Midwest. Make sure you keep your expectations in check though, we are landlocked by quite a distance. You also get unlimited toppings with avacado and Kim chi being extra. I've had poke quite a bit on the coasts and have found that the best combinations tend to have a mix of something crunchy (chips or fried onion), something savory (spicy poke sauce, Kim chi), and something sweet (Thai sweet chili sauce, mango, or pineapple). My go to combo is white rice w/chips, ahi tuna, crab salad, seaweed salad, mango, green onion, fried onion, sweet Thai chili sauce, spicy mayo, sesame seeds, and togorashi seasoning. If you can, I've found sharing a large bowl between two ppl is plenty of food, as long as you both can agree on toppings this is def the way to go and much cheaper than getting two bowls. Seating in the resteraunt is ample and it's always very clean and well lit. It's hard to beat a healthy, fresh, and quick resteraunt in cwe. People will naturally compare to.blk mrkt eats, both are delicious, but pokedoke bowls are def better than blk mrkt bowls. But there sushi-rittos are different and delicious as well. I believe they can both coexist, in that one day I'll be feeling sushi-rittos and another I'll be feeling poke and can pick and choose which I'm feeling that day and not be conflicted. read more

Based on mixed earlier reviews I decided to I've the place a few weeks to adjust to customer demand/ preferences etc. I got every topping (except kimchi and avocado) to taste everything. You first decide how much rice/how many scoops you want. I did the regular (3) and it was WAY too much food for me but it was a great ratio of rice to toppings. You then select your base which is what kind of sushi rice or salad you want. -you then select your "scoops". They have spicy/ahi tuna, shrimp, octopus, salmon, and a few others. I chose ahi tuna and salmon and I was VERY pleased. - you then select the temperature of poke sauce, I did mild because I don't love spicy stuff. -then it's the toppings!! A solid St. Louis/small city/landlocked city 4! I'v been brought take out from here several times without having ever stepped foot inside the store. Our first visit opening week aside, it's been pretty decent. The is several options for each step Chipotle-style, and for a small privately owned restaurant they aren't nickle&diming you for the toppings (yet). The menu is on their facbook page, though I think maybe it's not always up to date if they have new toppings... The fish quality is decent, probably even better than the neighboring sushi joints, and cut into big pieces. The prices are reasonable, the toppings are fresh, and even though it's not the most perfect poke bowl in the world, it is usually just what I'm looking for in a light but satisfying quick lunch. This place was heavenly! Finally got to try some delicious poke in St. Louis with my friend who recently got back from Japan! I was going to go for the regular size, but the small bowl was just enough food for me (I read some reviews before visiting, which was helpful.) Ordering was super easy and the people behind the counter were friendly. All the toppings I added were fresh! (I didn't add any avocado...maybe next time?) You can definitely add however many toppings you want. The sauces I added onto my bowl were amazing! I had the spicy mayo and teriyaki. Outstanding place. Been wanting to come and finally made it. They have three size bowl options all with different carb bases. I chose a large that comes with 4 fish scoops on white rice. From there you have various topping options. For the fish I went for shrimp, spicy tuna and salmon. Added seaweed salad, edamame, masago, crab meat, medium poke sauce and soy. Man thats a bowl.
