    Curry sando

If this pop up comes anywhere near you, it's worth it! I ordered three sandwiches including curry, tamago (egg salad) and strawberry. All were delicious. I still think about that egg salad one! As soon as it was planning to be near me I preordered as soon as ordering opened so I could pick what I wanted before they got low or sold out. They will sell out so be watching and order quickly! Look them up and order a sando!

Tried the veg pop up at Balkan Treat Box and was so happy I did. Had tried some of his yakitori at the Red Lantern festival and it was really good so when I saw this pop up I immediately ordered five sandos. The bread was perfect and all of the fillings were tasty and just the right proportion. I've had a good share of sandos from Japan to Houston and these were honestly some of the tastiest I've had. Nothing was over the top and it was a perfect balance in the Japanese way.

    Cute!

Highly recommend preordering! This cute, little, firetruck-red Kei car is at Francis Park next to the beer garden every Monday. I discovered them by googling "umeboshi onigiri near me." Umeboshi is picked plum, a really unique Japanese filling. My first time visiting, they sold out just when I walked up, so I tried the other types of onigiri on offer instead. Those were good, but didn't quite satisfy my craving. They also sell fruit sandos and other Japanese snacky foods. The guy running it is nice, and let me know I can pre-order on their website starting Friday at 5pm, which I did this week and got as much as I wanted! I don't know if 5 bucks a pop is a lot for "konbini" (convenience store) snacks, but the alternative is sourcing my own umeboshi and molding my own rice balls... I plan on becoming a regular customer. I know my mom got excited about umeboshi, too, so I'll be ordering for her soon, too.

Izumi sandwiches are beautiful!! These paired with the adorable red food truck that they come from just make me happy! I ordered these a while ago and forgot to post a review but I have been thinking about them ever since. On top of how they look they taste awesome and the onigiri that Izumi sells as well pairs nicely with them! The all over care and kindness packed into these sandwiches are overwhelming and the owner of the shop is so sweet! I have ordered from Izumi multiple times and will continue doing so!

The worst part is deciding what you want. This last time we went with the omekase, let our waitress choose, and it was perfect. She picked things we never would have thought about, yet everything was SO good. She also did a great job of explaining every course/her thoughts on it/what we should expect. It was such a great experience. The cocktails are always fantastic, no notes. Seriously, the best splurge meal in the city. SO SO good.

We ordered a few sashimi and we expected them to be a little fancier. That was on us. The server as with Indo, above and beyond nice, I think they are accustomed to a lot of questions. Ours was amazing, she said "we don't fork shame here" I fork shame, but she refused. Good for her! I also ordered a cocktail. I would arrive to Sado just for this cocktail, it had a coconut pillow top, that was reminiscent of a marshmallow. Delightful compliment to my savory dinner. I was very surprised at the size of Sado on the inside, we made a turn into the seating then a second turn deeper into seating. I did not get to check out the bathrooms, which disappointed me, but the ambiance was very dark and romantic, also unexpected, there were several tables of friend groups.

Ramen is excellent and perfectly fatty and rich. This is the best ramen in Missouri. It's not even close. Underrated sides are the kaarage and the cucumbers. Well worth the visit and the wait. When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

Some of the bites are definitely an acquired taste (this meal was my first exposure to eating liver and sea urchin - both very bold and unique flavors) but getting to try new foods was something I really liked about this meal. The restaurant is beautiful, warm, and bright. You get to sit right up at the counter with just 5 other people when you do the nine-course dinner. Each course is prepared in front of you so it's neat to be able to see the chefs prepare the next course while you're eating. When you book the reservation, you get the choice to pick between tempura and yakizakana for one of the courses, and while the tempura was good (which I ordered), the yakizakana was excellent (which my husband ordered). They do a great job explaining what everything is that you're eating, how to eat it, and which order to eat it in. And even though it's all small bites, we left dinner feeling full and satisfied. We will absolutely be back.

The waiter was warm and knowledgeable, telling us stories and background on the food and beverage we had. His father is the chef and his mom does all the flower arrangements at the restaurant. It's beautifully decorated and sophisticated. There were two of us and we went with the 4-course $100 Omakase, which had 2 options and we did one of each: Omakase Nigiri and Chirashi. The food here was delicious and I can't remember all the items I had, but it started with a Tsukidashi tasting followed by a soup. Between the two options, I would opt for Omakase Nigiri next time. The wine and sake pairing was terrific, which introduced us to so many new beverages. Dessert is a must, especially at $5. The matcha mousse was airy and fantastic. You can dine by reservation only, and it's easy to make reservations on Tock, but need to plan ahead. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026
