If you are going to have fast food then you might as well have something that tastes great and is good for you. Poki Poki is a great addition to the growing business area around College and Oceanside Blvd. I've been stopping here since it opened in September for work lunches and after hours or weekends when I'm in the area. I like their broad menu and generous portions as there are many similar places that charge twice as much for half the food. I especially like the fresh protein choices: salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, yellowtail, scallops, albacore, shrimp - just to name a few. I was introduced to poke several years ago as an alternative to boring old salad. In case you're new to poke, it's a Hawaiian dish, loaded with protein, good omega 3 fats, veggies (like seaweed, soybean, radishes, and garlic), and it can be low calorie depending on what you add (go easy on the various mayo sauces!). This location has been great: clean with lots of seating and fair prices. The only reason that I didn't give it a higher rating is because of the staff which could be a little more focused on customer service and less texting on their phones and chatting. If you stop by, make sure to try the, "Pokirito" also called a sushirito at other restaurants - think sushi burrito and you'll be on the right track...super yummy. read more

Hesitant to try this kind of place just because of overall freshness and quality but I was pleasantly surprised with quality and freshness! Great choices and delicious! I am very new to poke and had been trying several different places to see which ones I liked. I can say, I am always going back to Poki Poki. It was amazing, getting to choose all my own ingredients, and the service was amazing explaining everything and how it goes together. It's a beautiful little shop and i enjoyed my whole experience. They even have lids for the bowls if you don't finish. The portions are amazing for the price and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I loved this place. I ordered a salad and tired to make a close to my favorite sushi salad. They have a good selection of toppings, the gals were very helpful with the questions I had regarding the sauces and toppings. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted and the freshness of the fish. I was able to mix fish as I wished for my recipe. They also offered me extra sauces after I paid, which helped me fine tune the flavor. I wish I had added avocado though! All in all, good, fresh salad, I will definitely go back. I used to like this place until they started giving much smaller portions and even stopped giving military discount. Which was my favorite part, it was only 10% but it's a nice gesture for the military. Why go so cheap and reduce portions, take away military discount, and start charging for certain sides. Service here was not nearly as friendly as at the Encinitas location. It seemed like it was a chore to serve me. Maybe they get less traffic because nothing seemed quite as fresh - not terrible, just ok. Also, when I asked for salad the guy behind the counter painstakingly scraped up every single last leaf from the bottom of the container (I'm talking down to the microscopic wet little blob) to put in my bowl instead of using the full fresh container that was there. Avo was so brown I passed on it. They don't have a frequent buy card either. Encinitas location does. read more
