Quesabirrias (3) - $22.00
Rebecca G.

After hearing through the grapevine that this Mexican place is great I decided to take the drive out to Slinger and boy am I glad I did. The restaurant is in a strip mall, but has a decent amount of space with a very nicely done outdoor patio. The decor is authentic Mexican with beautiful murals throughout the restaurant. We were immediately seated (went for lunch on a Sunday) and very promptly served water as well as chips and salsa. Throughout our dining experience the waiter was fantastic, upbeat, and extremely attentive! He was having so much fun with the table, we were actually laughing! The food was wonderful! The chips were warm and the hot salsa was very good. The mild was a little on the tomato side but some may prefer that. The chicken fajitas were good and the serving size was impressive. The Burrito Mexicano was stuffed to the brim and as big as the plate! My son said it was very good. I had the Quesabirria and it was fantastic! So very, very flavorful with the perfect amount of cheese. I have been dreaming of them ever since. I highly recommend stopping in and giving this restaurant a try. I am pretty sure you'll leave wanting more!

Margarita

The food was so good and so expensive too lol. The margarita was soooo delicious and the outside patio was nice although too close to the parking lot.

This place is always crowded and there's a reason why. Service is attentive and accommodating. Drinks are festive and there's no shorting on the pour (wink). Food is consistently good. From the Birria to a classic Carne Asada Taco, you won't be disappointed. Make sure you start things off with some Queso or Guacamole. Both are delicious!

What a pleasant find in Slinger. Full bar, extensive menu and friendly service. Is sat at the bar where they have a solid collection of tequila in hand and Mexican beers on tap. Drinking a micro, they offered up free chips and salsa. Chips were ok but their salsa was addicting. I finally had to push it away to order my entree-queso birria. Served with rice and beans, it was certainly a lot of food. The beef within the taco was tender and flavorful. Dipped, stuffed with cheese, and then seared, the tacos were a solid dish. I will say that the accompanying consommé to dip the tacos in was a little oily and didn't have the rich beefy taste of others that I have tried. Nevertheless, I feel Polanco did justice to the dish. I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I was ever in town. Solid food, extensive cocktail menu and friendly staff. What more can a guy ask for?

I haven't had anything here that I didn't enjoy, including the margarita's. My go to is the Al Pastor taco.

It wasn't authentic nor delicious and over priced. Beans and rice are bland, the Al Pastor was dry. The service (Danielle) was excellent.

Nite Owls - Mushy breading on the inside of the fried cod

Nite Owls

I saw a post that Nite Owls made in a foodie group on social media about having key lime pie as a…read morespecial item for the weekend. I figured I was going to have a fish fry somewhere since it was a Friday in Wisconsin, so the pie, coupled with the fact I had never been to Nite Owls, led me to choose them that evening. I ordered a four piece cod fish fry with waffle fries, the white cheddar cheese curds, and a piece of key lime pie. There were very few pictures of food from Nite Owls online, so the fish fry and cheese curds were essentially ordered blindly. The description of the curds said they were white cheddar and lightly breaded. My guess was that meant they had the cornmeal-like kind of breading that white curds usually come with, which I'm not a fan of. I took a chance and ordered them anyway. Unfortunately, my guess was proven right. The curds were greasy on the bottom and not crispy/crunchy, which is typical for that kind of breading on cheese curds. Disappointing, but sadly not the most disappointing part of my meal. The waffle fries were good. Hard to screw up taking them out of a bag and frying them. They were seasoned, not plain, which was good. It's rare when I order a fish fry and don't like the fish. The fish from Nite Owls can be added to that short list. The breading was thick, somehow a little mushy inside, and I didn't care for the flavor at all. I tried to pick it off the fish and it did come off fairly easily, but the flavor of the breading had seeped into the cod and left me not wanting to eat much of that either. Ultimately I finished two of the four pieces without the breading and ended up throwing the other two away. The picture of the pie made it look like it was whipped throughout instead of pie filling with a whipped layer on top. It certainly had the flavor of key lime, but missed out on the substance without the pie filling layer. The gentleman working behind the bar was pleasant and helpful and my bill was reasonable for the amount of food I received. I hate giving them a bad review because the service doesn't deserve one, but the food was lacking in my opinion. If the fish had been tolerable enough to eat all four pieces, this would be a different story.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Exterior gives off the old dirty dive bar vibe but inside it's…read morenice, very nice and the staff was great and our food was excellent.

Tyler's service was fast accurate and very professional. I had the ribs and my partner had the chicken tenders. Just as I tell people by word of mouth, "If you wand really good ribs that come off the bone nicely, you just have to try the ribs here at the Mineshaft." Once again, as always, an extremely satisfying visit to the Mineshaft. A fantastic place to eat. Incessant Research (Investigative Research & Journalism. Not for hire.)

I got the Ruben, which the menu describes as a hearty portion of corned beef. You'll see in the picture there were 3 thin slices of lunch meat type corned beef. Husband got the patty melt. He thought it was OK, not great but not terrible. I thought it tasted like propane. It had a distinct gas taste to it. We had the "nachos supreme " as an appetizer.... my fault I should have read beyond the title. One assumed that supreme meant Toppings. Nope. Ground beef, liquid cheese, on chips, with jalapeños. That's their version of supreme. Bland, after a couple turned gross and colgulated. First time here since moving back to the area a year ago.... go somewhere else. Uncle Larry's is a MUCH better alternative.
