Well there's plenty of parking, so there's that. It's an off-brand Dave n Busters basically. Upon getting there, they made us all wait for everyone before they allowed us to sit. I found this rule rather obnoxious. My group and I opted for the buffet which I did end up regretting. The food just was not good. I should have ordered off the menu. I would not return for the buffet. The price was good though! And it's definitely a family friendly place. Our server was nice. The customers were meh; my friends and I attempted to take pics and kept getting photobombed by a gross older man. My husband and I stopped for a late lunch today. Service was fast, Karissa was our server and she was friendly. The food was gross and not as advertised. I got the Ruben, which the menu describes as a hearty portion of corned beef. You'll see in the picture there were 3 thin slices of lunch meat type corned beef. Husband got the patty melt. He thought it was OK, not great but not terrible. I thought it tasted like propane. It had a distinct gas taste to it. We had the "nachos supreme " as an appetizer.... my fault I should have read beyond the title. One assumed that supreme meant Toppings. Nope. Ground beef, liquid cheese, on chips, with jalapeños. That's their version of supreme. Bland, after a couple turned gross and colgulated. First time here since moving back to the area a year ago.... go somewhere else. Real time review. This happened today. Sunday evening. 6:45 pm. Food took well more than an hour to be served and was delivered COLD. No mushrooms on the filet whatsoever despite that being noted on the menu. Steak was cooked properly but barely warm and at medium temp it should be hot. Potato was lukewarm so I ate it. Fish tacos were somewhat cold and beans and cheese had hardened already so it was clear it had been sitting a long long time. The cheese was able to be picked up off the beans in a lacy hard formation. Beans were dry and crusty on the edges like they appear after they sit out for 45-60 minutes. Sour cream on taco plate was watery because it clearly got put on the plate when the food was hot and had plenty of time to warm and thin out. Staff passed our table many times and never said anything about the wait time or let us know they were sorry that food was taking so long or would be up soon. They simply ignored us. By the time we got served, they had closed the restaurant for the night. Kitchen looked empty. Saw people in there with spray bottles cleaning. There was food all over on the floor under neighboring tables. Really unappealing and unappetizing. I let staff know the issues with the cold food and server said that she would speak to manager (who never bothered to come to our table) then came back and announced with a flourish that she took 50% off (!) the check as if that was huge and it was now magically fixed. No apology at all. I told her I was disappointed so she asked me what I would suggest. At that point I said to just forget it; I would just take the steak home and heat it up myself as it was really late and I had nothing to eat but a salad and a barely warm baked potato. Too annoyed and hungry to argue. Ordered a specialty Merlot and was given the house Merlot which I didn't know until I got the check. It was not good at all. The worst part was the infestation of fruit flies. (Note: In March it was also an issue so it's not just a summer thing; there's a problem that needs to be solved). Dozens of fruit flies. All over the place. Swarming when we walked in. Asked for napkins to cover the wine and killed about 15 flies myself with the napkins. Really gross. Nobody seemed to notice (or care?) that I was swatting them at the table. So right now we are en route to Jug's so I can finally get something to eat and a drink that I don't have to battle flies to drink. Set the empty wine glass on the neighboring table (before the food even came) and no one ever picked it up. Flies kept accumulating. Still there when we left. Flies both inside the glass and on the top of the napkin I covered it with. Gross. Really unacceptable. Avoid this place. No one seemed to care about the customers. Even after they knew of the issues. It's not worth it. It isn't right to treat customers like they don't matter. They're the lifeblood of your business and people ask me for restaurant recommendations daily. This will not be making the cut. read more

Potato soup was outstanding, but that's where it ends Rueben sandwich. How about using real Corned Beef??? That thin sliced deli garbage meat you called corn beef is nasty. Supposed to be served on pumpernickel bread, not caraway rye. Club Sandwich is supposed to come with turkey AND HAM. Cuban sandwich is supposed to have pulled pork, ham, mustard and pickles. I've been following with great interest the matter of the non payout on a large win on one of the slot machines. My question is why?. You certainly have no problem taking peoples money but if and when someone wins, which doesn't happen that often, you stiff them. A reputable business would not do that. Yeah the machines are "illegal" but you have them and take your patrons money with no problem. Come on . Buck up and do the right thing. This is a tight community and word is spreading fast about what has occurred. Your business is the ONLY one who wont payout. I've always enjoyed going to the Shaft but that will now come to and end. I recently learned that someone who frequented the Mineshaft and played the video gambling games won a big jackpot, but the owners decided not to pay, and worse, accused the person of cheating. Apparently it's okay to feed the machines all you want, but don't expect to get paid if you win. That's not the way to treat patrons of your business, so I won't ever go to the Mineshaft. read more

Very affordable place to take your family or a large party for a meal out. The food isn't the best - mostly greasy bar food - but the kids eat free deal (ages 5 and under, Sunday - Thursday & dine-in only) is awesome and keeps us coming back when we're eating out with several littles. You can also bring in your own birthday cake and candles if you're celebrating a birthday which is soooo nice and not something many places allow. The service is always nice and friendly too which makes for a pleasent, family-friendly atmosphere. Gorgeous place they have a specials almost every day of the week we went on Mexican buffet night all you can eat Mexican food. They also have a pizza night and some other nights that I don't recall. I've only been there once, but I will highly recommended especially for the Mexican cause that's what I was there for. read more

The food tasted good overall, but there were some frustrating issues during our visit. Even though we were a large party, it was disappointing that everyone's ribs came out cold and had to be reheated. Toward the end of our meal, we cleared one table ourselves to make space to sit and talk. The waiter came over, dumped all the cups into half-full pitchers of soda, and asked if we were done--despite us telling her we were still using the table. It was only 7:30 PM, and we still had about 30 minutes left to relax and enjoy our time together, so that felt rushed and unnecessary. The game room was also a letdown. My wife hit a large ticket win, but the machine stopped adding tickets to the card even though it kept counting past 1,000. We had to get an employee to swipe a card just to allow the tickets to load properly. If we hadn't been paying attention, we could have easily lost around 3,000 tickets we paid for. read more

I know this place is popular, but I was less than impressed. The venue is cool, I'll give it that, but a neat name and decor do not a complete restaurant make. They have a wide and varied menu, but it appeared that everything they do is pretty mediocre, at best. They do the Midwestern version of Mexican food. A basic, nothing special pizza, and burgers straight out of Sysco's freezer. Nothing tasted great, but it was all on the margin of acceptable. The service was standard. No complaints, but I'm not fawning over it, either. All in all, it's fairly priced and offers a pretty neat locale. That's about it. The food is bland and indifferent. The drinks were watered down. I'd go back, but only because Hartford doesn't offer a lot of options along Hwy 60. read more

Never experienced a place quite as unique as the Mineshaft. Huge bar and restaurant, game room upstairs, also a stage in the back? Anyways, having a place to go with a large group basically outside of our hotel. Food: outrageous. Beer selection: incredible. Game room: quite fun! Our server for our group of 5 was very on top of it and kept our drinks filled and our food came out quite quickly. The award winning mozzarella sticks are basically cheese eggrolls, and I am not complaining a single bit. Excellent appetizer! The poutine was also quite delicious with really crisp fries, delicious gravy and lots of curds. While trying to go for lighter fair, I had a chicken salad, and that breaded chicken was excellent. Tons of chicken and bacon, lots of veggies as well but of course delicious shredded cheese as well. Really glad we came here and that the spotted cows kept flowing! read more

The Mineshaft is the Center of Hartford. I would always go there as a kid and still go there to this day for their atmosphere. Mineshaft has a real "up north cabin" feeling with its decorations from wooden log walls to its fancy stained glass dangling lights. You won't miss their Bar, you'll see it as you walk in unless you go upstairs. They usually have two people running the bar but don't be surprised to see just one, ask for a drink! Oh and they also have milkshakes. If you're there for something to eat, unless it's a busy, there is a ton of seating in the building. Once you're waiting for your food, or done with it, head upstairs to Mineshafts Game Room. They have tons of new games and stay updating the arcades. Everyone I know likes the Mineshaft, it's a family experience to not miss out on. Hope you have fun! read more

What a cool place, in theory. The building is so much bigger than you think when you see it from the outside. We had reservations here for six of us on a Saturday night and while I did not make the reservation, I was told that they said it might be difficult to accommodate that. We were able to get reservations and they seated us right away after we were all there. It seemed like the first floor was the restaurant and the second floor was the arcade. Unfortunately due to a holiday work party that we were attending afterwards, we could not enjoy the arcade but some of our group had been there before and talked about it fondly. As for the food, the menu was pretty standard "American" food. I ended up getting spaghetti and marinara which came with a soup or salad and a side of garlic bread. Unfortunately they did not have any meatless soups and I didn't want a salad, so my husband enjoyed the andouille sausage soup for me and said it was fine. The spaghetti and marinara was similarly okay - it was tasty, but nothing special. The garlic bread I did actually like quite a bit though. My husband got a cheeseburger and fries, which he liked. My husband got a salted caramel old fashioned which I will say was delicious. I'm not an old fashioned girl and I could've easily drank several of those happily! I got a sugar cookie cocktail which was good too, but was watered down very quickly. Overall, I think I could see myself coming here mostly for the drinks and to try the arcade next time because the food was fairly average. After a hike my wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. We hadn't been there in years so we walked around to check out the game room and it would rival Chucky Cheese. Great for kids with tickets to win prizes. Unfortunately no pinball though. The restaurant is nicely decorated with lots of wood to give it a north woods feel. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered blended lime margaritas and when they came they were almost pure white with only a hint of green. We both tasted them and couldn't believe that they were almost tasteless. It's like they put no tequila and hardly any lime in them. The sever quickly came back asked how they were, as if she suspected there was a problem. We shared that they were tasteless and she offered to replace them, but we ordered beers instead. I had a rack of ribs and my wife had a Reuben sandwich and a bowl of creamy vegetable soup. My ribs were tender and a good portion but the sauce was heavy and slathered on After cooking instead of cooking with it on. My wife's soup was a sizable bowl and it was very tasty and her Rueben was below average with little meat and almost no sour kraut. I had a piece of carrot cake for desert with was very good. And my wife enjoyed her pistachio cake. Overall the experience was underwhelming. Margaritas were laughable, main courses were ok, and desserts were very good. read more

Our visit should be a zero. We stopped in to have a late lunch literally 45 minutes ago. A sullen hostess seated us. Four or five servers were standing in the back of the restaurant chatting. We sat at our table in a fairly empty restaurant for over 10 minutes and were not acknowledged in any way. We got up and left. We've eaten here several times and while we've noted a decline in service, this was ridiculous. We'll not patronize The Mineshaft again. read more

Went for the all you can eat fish fry on Friday evening May 30. Had reservations for 6 pm and were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. This place is often packed on a Friday evening but wasn't too bad the night of our visit. Do avoid sitting at one of the high tables just inside the main room near the hostess stand. High traffic and a breeze made for unpleasant seating. Service was quick and friendly, refills of fish and drinks came without delay. This isn't a fancy place, it's large and busy as I said, but it's a good deal. We had the fried perch which comes with fries or tots, coleslaw and a slice of marble rye. The perch was good, fried perfectly each time the server brought more. You can't beat the price at $9.99. They also have all you can eat fried shrimp, poor man's lobster and haddock. The last is actually $2 less than the others. They also do the all you can eat fish fry on Wednesday. If you're looking for a good fish fry for a great price this is the place! read more

In Hartford for some flight training at CubAir. Our first night we decided to walk from the Cobblestone Hotel to The Mineshaft. Pretty good food and value. I was disappointed the calzone didn't come with a side of dipping sauce. When I asked the guy that brought it out for some sauce, he said it's inside. Prizes were kind of a rip off (IMO) for how many tickets and did not have the greatest selection. If you're looking to spend your tickets on slushies and sodas it is worth it! Very interesting experience. Son had a sandwich with no tomatoes, of course came with tomatoes. Happens all the time . What I found interesting was that three of us ordered steaks. Meat was fine . But it was crazy that the steaks were served basically in a low platter or maybe a bowl type. I guess it would be considered a linguine type bowl. It was impossible to cut the steak. What a great deal! $9.99 and ayce! I didn't think deals like this still existed but apparently they do if you're willing to drive out to Hartford! I love that you can choose 2 options with the fish fry too(perch, shrimp, cod, or poor man's lobster)) I ordered the shrimp and cod and I think I must've eaten like 24 shrimp by the time we left. Their portions are so generous. I had the margarita and my cousin and uncle ordered the root beer floats...which are also bottomless. Rest assured you will not leave here hungry. My wife and I often go to the Mineshaft for breakfast and/or dinner. Recently, on June 13th, after driving from Juneau to go there for breakfast, they were closed, and we learned they no longer serve breakfast and changed their hours. Huge disappointment. Couldn't understand why they stopped serving breakfast, every time we went there, they had ample customers enjoying breakfast. We have family in town from Germany, Michigan, and New York. We've never been to Mineshaft before. I spoke with Kayla on the phone 4 times with questions and to reserve, and she was kind and helpful each time. Our server was Austin, and he did a fantastic job serving our group of 21! This has been a long time bookmark and when I found my self in town for the Santa train I instantly knew that breakfast was going to be here to start my day. First off the place is huge with a bar and a restaurant that has many doors to get in from front or back. The breakfast menu looked good with a nice assortment of dishes but I wasn't expecting much because everything was like no higher than $7.99 which is probably the most reasonable breakfast spot that I can remember. I ordered a Bloody Mary with a spotted cow chaser and the sausage omelette to start my weekend right. The Bloody Mary looked good but it was rather boring as far as Bloody Mary's go. The sausage omelette came with sourdough toast and it was as big as the plate for $6.99 which is very reasonable. The sausage omelette is sausage, green peppers, onions, cheddar, Monterey served over golden hash browns and covered with sausage gravy. The sausage gravy had the most sausage in it that I have ever had. The sausage omelette was pretty good with fresh veggies and the melted cheeses with sliced sausage links. The sourdough toast was not the great kind but it was ok. WOW this is a very reasonable breakfast spot with huge portions that are pretty good so your breakfast dollar goes a long way and I got Two meals out of my breakfast. read more
