I am a regular at Polash. I'd initially started patronizing this restaurant due to it being within walking distance from my place, but I am happy to say, I am pleased every time I visit. My go to is the chicken korma and poori. The service is excellent and I appreciate when staff happily welcomes a regular. That is what keeps me visiting. I've been to a few eateries in NYC, where I've visited multiple times and FOH doesn't recognize me as a regular. This ticks me off. I stop visiting, stop recommending. Stumbled on this little gem when going to nearby Costco..Very small place but dont let that deter you. Tried the chicken tikka madala and vegetables curry. Mixed appetizer and pinneapple lassi. Everything perfect. They have great lunch specials if you get it to go, would definitely be a regular if we lived nearby. read more

We used to live in Harlem many years ago and during this time one of our favorite restaurants was Polash. My brother and I were OBSESSED with their Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Vindaloo. Fast forward to tonight and I'm back in the old neighborhood for a few days and of course I ordered dinner from Polash. I called the restaurant directly cause I'm old school like that and placed my order of the same items as we used to do circa 2008-2012. Within an hour my meal was delivered and even before I opened the bag the aroma of what I knew was going to be a delicious meal took me back to the times when my siblings and boyfriend (now husband) would order and eat together while watching the Bachelor or Lost. To my happy delight nothing about Polash has changed and I mean that in every good way as possible. Dinner was excellent and everything tasted just as I remembered, Excellent. Their service is always excellent and friendly. I'm not sure if they still do a lunch buffet in the weekends but we used to visit quite often and basically eat tandoori chicken. The restaurant itself is pretty big with a welcoming atmosphere. The best part besides the food is that they've maintained their prices as close if not the same as ten years ago. Really good chicken tikka and vegetable samosas. They made it fresh and it was steaming hot when I grabbed my take out. I liked that the vegetable samosa filling was mixed with potato and peas and it was filled but wasn't super dense. The chicken was tender and the sauce was flavorful. The naan was soft and chewy. Friendly service, I only hope they can provide better lighting in the restaurant during dinner. It's a bit dark inside. Vegetarian dinner $15.95: comes four different kinds of appetizers, soup (Best mulligatawny soup)and small portions of mixed veg curry, Chana saag and aloo mottor gobi, rice, dessert, and tea. Adding $1 for nann. I also want to try other meat special dishes. It all looks so good after seeing my friends order it. Magi lassi is a bit too sweet for me, I will skip it next time. I am still shocked that they deliver to me as this restaurant is on the east side. The delivery was quick as well! I ordered the meat samosas and like what other reviewers have commented on, they were much bigger than expected. But the important thing is they were very tasty. I would definitely try the other options like the chicken ones. I usually get chicken tikka masala but after looking at the photos and reading some of the reviews, I decided not to. Instead I ordered the chicken biryani, which was super flavorful! I would definitely order it again and even try the other options as well! My Grandmother (rest her soul) use to cater for many Indian events. Being Indian, all the food that I ate was homemade Indian food and sweets. Polash is the place for Indian food that reminds me of home. The Aloo Paratha and curry goat is my go to combination. Dipping that Aloo Paratha in the spicy curry goat sauce ... yes please. I have a few other favorite Indian restaurants (Chote Nawab, Imli, Rangoli, Sisters Cuisine) but this is the only Indian restaurant that comes close to the food with which I grew up. read more

I go to school right across the street at Hunter and was looking for something quick between classes. I saw the great reviews and decided to try it! I got the vegetable samosas and an order of naan (just a small little snack) and both were phenomenal. The samosas were so crispy and so flavorful and the naan is some of the most doughy and delicious I've ever had. The gentleman who took my order was super nice and the food was ready very quickly, even though they had just opened for the day. Hey this rating is all about the food and the owners. Both are special. I have been going here for 10 years. When I had my office in HARLEM I would go at least once a week for lunch. The food is amazing. I eat a lot of Indian and this by far is the best. One caveat this is not a fine dining experience. The decor is still stuck in the 80s but the food and service in point. Since moving out of the city I still loop uptown and get it to go for the family on a regular basis. The tikka Marsala, sag paneer, lamb raganoosh, allo paratha, and samosas are all spectacular. I have not had a bad dish there ever. Don't let the name and location throw you off this spot will not disappoint. read more

First time trying food from Polash. I've had Indian food before but never as authentic as Polash. When I first entered the restaurant the first thing I noticed was the amazing aroma of all different types of food. It was kinda mouth watering. There were people sitting at tables having lunch. I also noticed that they had an open buffet and someone greeted me within minutes. The waiter asked if its take out or staying and once I said take out he directed me to the counter where someone else could help me. I wasn't sure what to order to I looked at the menu. Noticed that they had a lunch special with came with some sort of meat or seafood, rice, naan, salad, a chutney and onions on the side. I ordered the chicken tikka masala special. $9 lunch buffet in Manhattan? Count me in. Polash is an informal Indian restaurant. I don't recommend bringing a date here, but it is a great spot to meet a friend over lunch. There was actually a group of women here (maybe a book club meeting), and they seemed to enjoy themselves here. They offer a traditional sit-down menu and a buffet. I chose the buffet. It was a cold winter day, so I was thankful for the multiple hot dishes. They had beef and chicken curries, tandoori chicken, assorted appetizers, naan, cold salad, cooked vegetables. There were between 8 and 10 dishes. They were all YUMMY and FRESH! I saw the waiter make multiple trips to add more food from the kitchen. read more

Oh Polash Polash.... How fantastic you are!! This is the place to go if you want a no frills traditional Indian meal done right! I feel like this place does the majority of business via delivery but don't let the emptiness and cavernous of the space scare you away. I enjoy the emptiness because i am attended to very nicely. Was different from Indian food I've eaten before, bit was still tasteful. We got a tikka and a tandoori lunch boxes delivered. The rice was soft and flavorful. The chicken was kinda dry (we were used to sauces) but edible. The prize of our meal were the meat samosas. . So flaky, so filling and with the green vinegary spicy sauce AMAZING! A nice sit-down Indian restaurant in East Harlem. Their menu offers up the usual selections, with some clear winners and some whimpers. I found the complimentary papadum to be a bit too salty, but my order of garlic naan was actually quite good. The garlic was fresh and omnipresent, and the airiness of the bread was nice. The meat samosas were also good. They did not feel heavy, and they made for an okay appetizer. For the entree I opted for the lamb tikka. These arrived sizzling on a small griddle accompanied by grilled onions. The seasoning of the lamb was strong and spicy. While I really liked that, I was disappointed by the meat being clearly overcooked. Over all it was fine, but the meat could have been a bit more tender if more attention was given to its preparation. For drink, I was very pleased to see Flying Horse lager beer on the menu as not all Indian restaurants carry it. The ambience was decidedly low key. There were plenty of tables, but only a couple of them were occupied during my visit. Not much caught the eye, but the restaurant was clean and spacious. As a regular I never would have thought that I would be writing such a negative review for this restaurant. My girlfriend and I order chicken tikka masala and garlic nan. Upon eating my girlfriend took a bite into her nan and realized something hard. So as anyone would do she pulled it out to see what it could be. In complete shock she turned to me and said "we can never order from here again" she showed me the nail. We contacted the restaurant about it and the guy had no empathy nor remorse, instead insisted that it couldn't have happened at the restaurant and that Grubhub must've placed the nail in her food. When we got our food the bag was stapled shut and didn't look like it was unraveled and stapled again. I told the guy this and he still insisted that it could not have happened at the restaurant. Now my girlfriend and I have to head to the hospital to make sure she's is okay because god knows where this nail was or if it was rusted!! I will be filing several complaints from health code violations to reporting them on BBB and Trust pilot read more

Best Indian Restaurant ever. I loved the garlic naan with chicken tikka masalla. The buffet is amazing. great selection of food. Not at all pricey. They also have really good butter chicken. If you are looking for authentic Indian food, this place is it. This place without doubt serves some of the best authentic Indian food. Chicken tandoori, meat samosa, chana saag, saag paneer are my favorite. Ofcourse, Love to finish my meal with a Lassi. The owner is the chef. His staff is very professional. Ordered through Yelp last night to pick up. They quickly prepared the food which was nice. If I was rating solely based on the samosas or the garlic naan, I'd be giving waaaay more stars than I am right now. Unfortunately, as a main dish I ordered the chicken tikka, and the quality of the meat was just BAD. There were chunks that were hard, or the texture was off. Really too bad, because the sauce was nice (a little more chunky than creamy, though), and just the right level of spicy (I ordered extra spicy). It's definitely cheaper than other Indian restaurants around, but it seems that it does not have the quality that other local Indian restaurants have. read more

This use to be my favorite spot to order authentic south asian food when I was working around the neighborhood. I was a big fan of their chicken biryani and their aloo paratha. UPDATE:::My first review was posted a while back and now I'm adding my delivery experience to the mix. I've been getting my food delivered from here for a while and I don't think there are enough words to express how happy I am that they deliver and that my order is always packaged well and the food is HOT when it gets to me. Don't be discouraged by the delivery time, most times they come earlier. The food continues to be delicious and tasty. I've tried various things on the menu and I never disappointed. I continue to highly recommend and they have some vegetarian options as well. More stars for this place. If it looks dark or closed... It's not. Come in, sit down and enjoy a taste of India. This place is a true gem in east HARLEM. The neighborhood is starved for restaurants that offer good service, good cuisine and good ambience all that the same time. This place has Alllll Three and then some. If you're coming in to eat, don't be deterred if it looks empty, trust me the food is still great. If you plan on ordering for delivery, they are pretty fair in delivery time. During my most recent visit, I had their curry goat which was flavorful and tender. The garlic Nan was yummy and fresh and warm. Curry cauliflower was delicious. I've eaten here a number of times trying new dishes and each time I've never been disappointed. I moved to Hawai'i, but lived around the corner in East Harlem for years, and this place still bar none has the best Indian food I've ever eaten. I'm pathetically eating this pitiful masala sauce out of a jar from the food store nearby, and I just remembered how piping hot and perfect theirs was. Always a treat. The samosas, awesome.
