I've driven by this place 100's of times and today I to finally decided to stop by and try it! The parking lot was empty but it was 3:00pm on a Thursday so it made sense. I went to the front of building and was let in by whom I assume is the owner! She was very nice and after telling me what cupcakes they still had I I ended up ordering a tiramisu Cupcake! Man I was not disappointed! It was a bit cold probably taken out of a fridge to make sure the Icing but that didn't deter me. I took my first bite and Wow! The cupcake was truly airy and fluffy with a great soft consistency. The frosting was delicious not overly sweet and did not leave a buttery texture in my mouth. The center of the cupcake had an exquisite coffee taste (tiramisu go figure lol) that didn't overpower the cupcake but definitely amplified the rest of the cupcake. I have 2 favorites: strawberry shortcake which is a vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream and strawberry champagne which is also a vanilla cake with champagne buttercream and strawberry mousse filling. Not overly sweet, extremely moist with a nice cream cheese icing to bring everything together. I hate those icings where it tastes like nothing but sugar, but every icing here is just the perfect sweetness for me, light, and fluffy. Disappointing! I was so excited to check out this place. But I left deflated. We had the strawberry and the chocolate. The strawberry was definitely better and had a really uplifting taste. It was definitely the mark of homemade batter. But the chocolate wasn't very good. The cake was mushy mashy and the frosting was waxy and filmy. Hmmm. I don't think it's supposed to taste that way. Besides the cupcakes, I have to say that this bakery could benefit from a new display case. Right now, all the cupcakes are housed in a clear plastic shelf display that oozes with smudge prints and frosting smears. It's not just that it looks dirty. It's also a problem when you have to squint around through all the muck to see the cupcake you're about to eat. Just lose your appetite? It's a small place so I'm sure they do what they can. While we were in Austin we went to 3 different places for cupcakes and this one by far was my favorite! There was something about the cupcakes here that felt that they were made with care and that they weren't "cookie-cutter" cupcakes that you sometimes get with places that have more foot traffic. I spotted this place from Cabo Bob's a couple of months ago and finally made it in. It's teenie tiny inside. The porch is neat, also small, and the furniture is kid sized for the most part. We were there late, so there were four choices left. The girl working recommended the chocolate chip cookie dough. Soooo good. The cake tastes like yellow cake, with this light, whipped, delicious chocolate icing on top. The cookie dough is at the bottom. Super good cupcake. BINGO! I found a great cupcake shop in Austin! While randomly doing graduation errands with my friend, I had a sudden urge for cupcakes. I took out my iPhone and used my Yelp app to find this place. All I can say is, THANK YOU Yelp! This is a very small cupcake shop but their cupcakes are packed with big flavors. I tried the Dulce de Leche and Chocolate Peanut Butter. The bakers nailed it on the head on both. The cupcakes were moist and soft, just as cupcakes should be. The icing on the cupcakes are fluffy which made the entire cupcake rich and decadent. The only minor criticism I would say is that the Dulce de Leche was a little too sweet, but people have different preferences on that. I still enjoyed it a lot! I've only tried these 2 flavors, but the next time I come to Austin, I plan to try 3 of the other flavors. Please listen to me...I've been to Polkadots more times than I can count. Their cupcakes are either a hit or a miss. Isn't that ridiculous? When you've been to a bakery more than once, you should know what you're getting into. It shouldn't be a guessing game but that's how it is w/ this place. Cute little shop; cute little box for my cupcake (free of charge) - makes for a nice first impression. The cute Red Velvet Cupcake looked up at me from its little white box, just waiting to get out. I love their cycle of rotating flavors as well as their daily flavors, and I've had a majority of them, actually. Their cupcakes are moist and perfectly sweet, although they sort of "look" more homemade, as in the icing and presentation can look a bit sloppy sometimes. It's not much of a downside, I know, but I'd love if the cupcakes were more presentable whenever I give them as a gift or something. I really like their icing though - most of the icing I have tried is buttery, light, and fluffy, not thick and rich and overwhelming like the icing of some other cupcakes places. Olga is the best baker in all of Austin! She is endlessly creative in the flavors and designs she creates. We had to reschedule our big wedding for July 2021, but she still made us a cake for our minimony on our original wedding date of June 2020 and we were so grateful for that. We finally got to have our big celebration and she put together a dreamy dessert spread for us -- a modern bride's cake, a realistic drum groom's cake (my husband is a band director and he was so excited about his cake), mini cupcakes in four flavors and two kinds of cookies. It looked beautiful and tasted delicious -- guests were telling me how much they enjoyed the sweets and wanted to know where they were from. The cherry on top is that Olga is one of the sweetest people and kindest small business owners in town. I have had cupcakes from Polkadots many times and every time they have been, by far, the best cupcakes in Austin. The shop is the cutest little house and the staff is super friendly. So, when it was time for me to choose a vendor for my wedding cake I went straight to Olga at Polkadots. They provided the cake and mini cupcakes for our reception this past April. I can honestly say that I have never had better cake, either at a wedding or anywhere! The guests were completely blown away by her design and flavors. I had a couple of meetings with Olga prior to the event and showed her a few pictures and described my vision. She took my ideas and ran with it and the outcome was outstanding. We had a small cake with the honey chai flavor (definitely one of my personal favs) and butter cream frosting. I loved the design of this cake...I could have stared at it all night! The mini cupcake we got were carrot cake, red velvet, black bottom and lemon cream. YUMyum and once more...YUM! One of my only regrets from our wedding was not eating ENOUGH of this stuff!
