Happy to report that this is my second time trying Pollo Campero and it is just as good as the other location I visited. I had a pleasant dining in experience. The food was well seasoned and cooked wonderfully. This time I tried the three piece chicken meal (fried and grilled) which came with two sides of your choosing. Both the fried and grilled chicken are great but my favorite has to be the grilled chicken. It is so well seasoned and juicy. Loved the yucca fries paired with their campero sauce which reminds me of a more honey mustard leaning chickfilA sauce. Their signature green salsa sauce was also great on their chicken. While it doesn't pack much heat, it is has a great peppery and bright taste that cuts through the fried chicken well. The beans and bread roll weren't too remarkable but nothing to complain about. Ordering was an ordeal- I think there's an issue with the speaker system, because we tried in English and Spanish and could not understand what she was saying in either. We got a 12 piece meal to take to my in-laws, they said it was pretty good. Thats why I'm giving two stars. I got a sandwich combo for myself. First of all- when does a fast food combo meal ever not come when a drink? (which I didn't know until the window, because I tried to ask, but that brings us back to the difficulty in understanding at the speaker) But also- the sandwich was sad and dry, and ketchup was the only sauce they had. The fries were stale and sad, tasted like they were leftover from yesterday and reheated. (Also- I like pickles, but they use bread and butter pickles, not regular dill pickles, which I know some people like, but I would have asked for no pickles!) read more

I went for lunch today my bill was $16.35 I gave the kid a $20 he didn't have any one's in his register and I told him I can wait for my change since I was eating there and didn't want $3 in quarters ! The good: I got a 12 piece chicken meal with two sides. I got macaroni and cheese as one side and plantains as the second. For the chicken, you could choose grilled or fried or both (I did both). For the carb, you could choose. Tortilla or bread rolls or both (I did both). You're given packets of salsa. I also tried the mango drink and horchata. The chicken was very moist and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was the perfect consistency and flavor. The plantains were fun. The fried chicken had a crunchy and flavorful skin. The grilled chicken had a nice char flavor. My husband and I were both exceptionally happy with this meal. I'd love to cater with them in the future. The bad: The mango drink was artificial. I was expecting a fresher mango juice. The chicken is on the saltier side but it's great with carbs. A pico de gallo would've been a great addition. The French fried were tough. Ugh I was on my way to Jollibee, but I passed this place and I said, eh why not give it a try. Well, there was attempt. I ordered the 3 piece combo with a side of rice and fries. I also got the nuggets because I just in case I didn't like the chicken. 1. The Nuggets The seasoning was honestly good. But the nuggets were hard and dry, definitely sitting under a heat lamp all day. 2. The Chicken Luke warm and soggy. The flavor was ok. Again, definitely sitting under a heat lamp all day. 3. The Rice The rice was actually good. Nicely flavored. It wasn't fresh, but it's rice. 4. The Fries Cold and tough. Gross. 5. The Bread Bland bread, wrapped in a bag for whatever reason. Well, it was a clue when my order was ready literally as soon as I drove to the window. The lady was handing me the bag before I even handed her my card. This is really a review of the chicken sandwich, their fried chicken is usually pretty good The chicken sandwich, however, is nothing special. Chicken, pickles, bun. The bun tasted stale. It had toast marks on it, but it looked like it was toasted hours (if not days) ago. That, and lack of any kind of sauce meant for a bland, flavorless sandwich that tasted more like cardboard than chicken. I ended up taking the chicken out and eating it by itself. The high point was the sweet pickle slices. Freshly toasting the bun might have saved it, a bit. The french fries had been stored in the warmer for sometime as well, so they were not particularly exciting. Overall, stick with the fried chicken and you'll do OK. I remember first trying Pollo Campero chicken ages ago when it was at Glendale Galleria. I didn't think it was too memorable. This location recently opened and caught my attention as I was driving down Hawthorne Bl. towards the freeway. The parking lot was full so I had to park down the side street. I ordered the 4 piece fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The chicken was exceptional and memorable. The sides were just okay. I'd choose other sides next time.
