Plenty of chicken found here! Whether you like it fried or rotisserie style, they have it. Plentiful AND delicious, the chicken is moist, flavorful and popular with the locals. Nice side options, too. Almost every time I visit, usually on weekends, it is overcrowded with people waiting for a table or waiting for their food to go. It looks like a table is easier to get than the delivery option, which is very popular. If they had someone consistently on the floor, they could get a faster turnaround with the tables. I was thinking of getting something quick for dinner, checked a bunch of restaurants, but most were close to closing so I didn't order. This fast food restaurant, that specializes in Guatemalan/Latin Fried Chicken, is located in a strip mall. With that being said, there is tons of free parking available. My interaction with the staff was limited, but they seemed nice enough. They have a decent sized dining area to sit and eat. Or you can order take out or delivery. The dining area could have used a little cleaning, but it was not filthy. I ordered the 3 piece combo meal with a side of Yuca fries. I also go a side of their sweet plantains. It took less than 5 minutes for them to prepare my meal. Total disclosure, I am not a Yuka fry fan. These were ok. The chicken was not your typical fried chicken. The batter is a bit different. The person who took our order was sweet and when I asked about a certain deal I saw online she matched what they had online. The food was really good, I haven't had pollo campero since I was a kid, and it's just as good as I remember. The horchata was really good too. I really like the texture of their yuca. I was shopping in the area and decided to stop in as I had this marked down to try. Quite a range of items and what's nice is that with the 4-piece combo you can split between the grilled and fried chicken. I did the 4-piece combo: fried thigh, fried breast, grilled thigh, grilled breast, side of beans, and side of fried yucca (plus tortillas.) I was also tempted to get one of the fried chicken sandwiches. Even with a drive home of about 10-15 minutes, everything held up well. Fried chicken, sandwich, and yucca wer still pretty crispy. Flavors were really good: fried chicken was seasoned, but not too salty and not remotely oily/greasy, grilled chicken had a nice variety of kind of an Gerber seasoning, beans were great, and the sandwich was perfect (I used the orangish sauce to dip it in. Not sure what it is, but it worked with everything.) Small negatives in that the tortillas were just two, basic corn tortillas in a plastic bag that was slightly warmed. They kind of crumbled/cracked and I'm guessing they were just like a standard grocery store tortilla. And not totally a negative, but I'd recommend ordering ahead. We did a walk-in and I'd say it took about 20 minutes or so to get the order. There were a few people ahead of us. Upside is things seemed pretty fresh. read more

Well the food here wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I got a mixed box of chicken (grilled and fried). I didn't have a great experience with the grilled , but I can see why some might like it. The fried chicken was decent, was good with hot sauce. The sides were average, I had the beans and fries. You could improve the cleanliness of this restaurant. I have been here for 30 some minutes and there have been 4 tables that need cleaning. Nice fried chicken! Very moist inside and tasty. Yucca fries also a pleasant surprise-perfectly cooked. Plantains also were cooked to perfection. No issues with cleanliness. The restaurant and bathrooms were both great. Will definitely be back. Oh and no complaints with the service. read more

The beans were spoiled, the. slaw was brown and the chicken was presented in a small white container. the tables were clear of items butfinger prints and stains were on most of the tables. They're not bad. It's just that in that shopping area when compared to all the other options they really do rate that low. If it was somewhere else it probably would rate better but here is suffers by comparison. There are at least two other pollo asado places within a quarter mile and they're both better. Through out the years I've tried Pollo Campero at many different locations just to have a definitive answer of whether I like it or not. The fried chicken has a distinct flavor, but at the same time it is still very plain. I'd much prefer the cajun flavor from Popeyes or even the original recipe from KFC. The fries... the fries are really plain and flavorless. There's nothing wrong with some basic fries; just throw on a bit of salt right? But I'm a tough critic because this is a Spanish chain. Where is the Latin flavor!? They can do so much more than what they are offering. I also tried their empanadas and they tasted like an old taquito from 7-11. Seriously, this area is filled with no-name establishments that serve excellent empanadas. The product they're serving definitely does not match the price. So there you have it. I rounded up from a strong 3.5 stars. I love all kinds of food (almost), but Latin food has a special place in my stomach :) Despite their many locations, this was my first time trying Pollo Campero. The place is tiny, but clean and has a good number of tables so I would assume they could fit all of the people during the lunch hour rush. The staff was friendly. I had grilled chicken, plantains, horchata (cinnamon and nuts drink) to drink and cuatro leches for dessert. The chicken was tasty, but not out of this world. People next to me were having friend chicken and it looked very tasty (think BonChon). My plantains were soft and cooked to perfection. Absolutely loved my horchata - it was delicious (would love to have one right now). About cuatro leches - not sure why it's cuatro and not tres - but who cares? That dessert hit the spot from one bite! I couldn't finish it since the caramel topping is very rich, but that's even better for me because the leftover is about to hit the spot now :) Bottom line, I wouldn't celebrate a special event here but I would definitely have it for lunch if I worked in the area. read more

I've been a huge fan of Pollo Campero...I usually frequent the Manassas Location partially because they have the salsa bar but since most of the pollo campero locations are now trying to be more upscale. They have scrapped the salsa bar and now offer bottled sauces. I was so excited to see Pollo Campero was open in Springfield however... Upon arrival it seemed dead now this can be a good/bad sign. In my case it was a bad sign when I walked in one of the workers had to shout to the cashier that there was people. The bf decide on 8 pieces which came with 2 sides. We decided on the Campero beans and the yuca fries. I also decide to try the 3 empanadas(guava bbq,verde pollo and buffalo ) with side of sweet plantains. We decide to eat there when our food arrived we ended up with 8 pieces of fried chicken instead of half grilled and half fried . Then had to wait until someone came out for us to address the mistake we were then told it would be another 15 mins. No thanks we already to wait for our empanadas and the Sweet plantains. Our yuca fries were cold and campero beans were lukewarm to the point that it looked like it came out of the bottom of cooking vessel I'm used to my Campero beans being a bit soupier to the point I have to have a spoon to eat them. The empanadas and plaintains were probably the hottest items we received and that because they were fresh out. Overall experience at this location was so poor. I'm just glad majority of our food was decent enough to stomach. read more

Never been to a Pollo Campero restaurant before so was excited to see another peruvian chicken place in the Springfield area. I originally plan to place a delivery order since Yelp said they can do it. I called and the person on the phone had to check with someone whether they delivered. When she finally came back on the phone, she had a difficult time hearing me even as I spelled out my address. To prevent further confusion and the risk of them delivering to the wrong house, I got my butt up and picked up the food instead. As you can tell from the pictures, the chicken is much smaller than most places. I can't really knock them for that since it's supposedly 100% hormone-free. I ordered the citrus peruvian grilled chicken and it was slightly bland. I'm surprised that they didn't provide additional sauces to dip the chicken in. I'm used to Nando's or other places that provide the yellow and spicy green sauce. For our sides, I ordered yucca fries and their campero rice. The chicken tasted much better after some lime and dipping into the yucca fries sauce, The yucca fries was just the right texture and crunch while the rice was mediocre. read more

The chicken was VERY good! We got the citrus grilled and I would've taken a picture but it got eaten up too quickly. That zest of lime really blows out your taste buds in a good way. I had never been here before and were brought here by friends and I can't believe I had missed out on this all my life. And oh my goodness don't get me started on that Apple soda!! That stuff is bomb - I got two large refills (probably not the best idea before a long road trip) but let me tell you something - it was worth it! It may sound strange but it's no stranger than sparkling apple cider!! We got plantains and the street corn salad as sides (because you gotta try to stay somewhat healthy, right??) and they were amazing as well. My experience was so so. Not awful, but not something I'd like to return and try again. I was looking for the typical rotisserie Peruvian chicken you find throughout Northern VA. I'm not a fan of fried foods, so can't say I can comment on the fried chicken. We got the grilled chicken with two sides. The portion was a bit smaller than what I'm accustomed to- for two people definitely not enough to share. The decor is nice: bright posters, nice menus and the tables were clean. This isn't exactly typical Peruvian chicken, more for the folks not accustomed to spices and flavor. I found the food to be a bit bland. Seems like more money spent on marketing and decorating than the actual food. I haven't been to other locations to compare, but don't think I will. Tried to make a big order over the phone and was told one price and confirmed it with the staff and manager but when we went to pick it up they acted like we were crazy that they never agreed on that price and over charged us. Won't be back. Way overpriced for fast food chicken when there are a dozen other Latin chicken joints within a mile of here that charge less and provide much better quality food and service. It's very easy to spend over $20 here for two people...for fast food that is substandard in quality compared to the competition. Heck, there's good restaurants close by with wait staff that understand customer service that don't charge much more. The chicken is heavily breaded...mostly bread. The sides are bland and boring.
