I ordered a lomo saltado which comes with steak (mixed with onions, tomatoes, and other veggies), French fries, and white rice. The lomo was pretty good but especially the juice that it's covered in. It's a pretty good sized dish. Most of the stars of this review are due to this dish. I also tried some chicken from their grilled chicken dish, which wasn't so great (a bit dry) which was surprising given that's what this restaurant is named after. The most overpriced chicken in town. This place has good chicken and the only thing that makes it special is the ají sauce. However its hard to justify paying 55 dollars for a single chicken and white rice when they only give you two small Aji servings with it. Nothing is wrong with food. Service is not good. I was charged LEVERAGE FEE when I asked about it they said is my credit card that is charging this fee. It's not true. And this is illegal in Massachusetts they can get in trouble for it. I'm not going to report it to the attorney general but I am sure someone will. The rotisserie chicken here is the star of the show although I have gone on occasion were it seemed they didn't cook it at a lower and slower which helps it to be more well done while retaining its moisture. The marinade is what really makes this rotisserie better than any other in Boston and when you dip in the cold greenish yellow creamy sauce it is heaven on your palate. Awesome, authentic Peruvian style chicken. My bookkeeper told me about her family's favorite Peruvian chicken restaurant and mentioned it was near Logan airport. Having been to several in Las Vegas I was less than enthusiastic. She convinced me and I'm glad she did! The chicken was perfectly cooked and thoroughly spiced. The spicing is not hot, it's extremely flavorful and perfect with the bird. The salad was huge and the fries plentiful enough to satisfy a gaggle of teenagers on a Friday night. The all in price was $10. The green salad dressing is also used on the chicken and was tantalizing and slightly zesty. The chicken comes in 1/4, 1/2 and whole. A 1/4 was more than enough for me. Pollo a la brasa is good, but the quality of the other dishes is bad. I ordered in 2 different occasions tallarin saltado, and it was just lots of veggies, not enough pasta, meat was taught, super salty due to the soy sauce, and both occasions were the same thing. On a different occasion I ordered aji de gallina, and how lazy they could be that they shredded the chicken from the rotisserie chicken, which change the flavor completely, oh! and also for the arroz chaufa they use the rotisserie chicken for it, I don't know who's the cook there now, but the plates suffer from authenticity. read more

Hidden gem. The greatest rotisserie chicken I've ever had in my entire life. I don't know what they're doing that makes it so amazing - the meat is creamy and perfect. It's like chicken from heaven. The food is what really counts for me at a restaurant. I can really overlook a lot in terms of atmosphere and service for outstanding food. So it makes me really sad that I'm only giving them two stars, because the food is genuinely outstanding. The pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken) is superb, as are the sides -- the fried yuca for example is just perfect. The service, however, is *SO* spectacularly bad that it is impossible to overlook. In our case I can't write it off to language issues -- there were none of those. It was simple lack of caring that there were customers in the restaurant. It wasn't just us. It wasn't crowded. It was stunning the number of times our waitress could walk right past a person who was obviously in need of a menu, or a check, or a drink, or something and manage to complete ignore all attempts at attention-getting. The brilliant cooks in the kitchen deserve so much better. Just a stone's throw from Logan Airport for the hungry traveler, El Chalan honestly has the best rotisserie chicken I have ever tried in the Boston area. Their sauce served with side orders, called aji, is a creamy sauce that tastes great to dip use for salads or on top of potatoes or fries. The food is reasonably priced as well. If you've craving some amazing chicken, check this place out! The fried yucca is to die for. I would honestly give my first born for a lifetime supply of their chicken, fries and fried yucca. Ironic, right? Since this does happen to be their name... Anyhoo, Pollo a la Brasa is not only a Peruvian comfort dish, its also a national one. Again, what makes the dish (aside from the juiciness of the rotisserie breast) is the sauce! The meal is nothing without the creamy, green sauce called Aji. This meal comes together with a side salad and fries- mmm yummy! Side note: I do think that Rincon Limeno (the Peruvian restaurant next door) makes better Aji. I think that El Chalan tends to use more of a mayo base. This would be my only improvement. Honestly, I don't care how shotty the service is, or how dirty the place feels... its worth it for the food. The decor is random (but all Peruvian), and sometimes your waitress will be waiting on you with their kid wrapped around her leg. I AGREE, this is a great hidden gem. (Well aren't most restaurants in Eastie?). This is the greatest rotisserie chicken EVERR and in part to this creamy, slightly spicy sauce, green called aji. Request the rocoto, a red sauce, if you want more of a kick! Make sure you eat the skin of the chicken too because it is well seasoned! I can't get enough of the chicken and the sauce, the quarter chicken comes with a little salad and a side or fries or rice if you request or maybe other sides but I've only gotten fries. I got the food delivered. The Pollo a la Brasa is ok, i gave them one star because of the Lomo Saltado dish which is a Peruvian dish made of sauteed french fries, onions, beef, tomatoes. It was sooooo salty that I could not swallow one spoonfull. Beef was like beef jerky. It is the worst Lomo I have ever had. Had to throw the whole thing away. I ordered online, paid for my order and when I received it one of my sides was missing. I called the restaurant and they told me it wasn't their fault because when you order from THEIR website it goes through Doordash not them even though it's their menu and their website. Either way I paid $48 ($38 was in food) for what was advertised as $25 and instead of sending me my missing side they continued to argue that it wasn't their fault and couldn't do anything about it. While I understand that Doordash is a third party, I still believe that since their website directs you to them they should have fixed my order. This is a hit or miss place. Sometimes the food is good, most of the time it isn't. I like that their portions are big. If you order the chicken with fries, you will get a lot of fries for just one person. If you order their Arroz Chaufa, they will give you a big portion of rice. I ordered the Arroz Chaufa one night, because I was planning to eat it the next day, and wasn't going to have time to order it then. I left it in the fridge, and when I tried eating it the next day for lunch, the rice was sour. It was probably old, heated up rice that I had gotten. I decided not to call about it, as I'm not one to complain or make a big deal. A few weeks later, I ordered the same rice, and not only did it take a long time to get it, (take out, not delivery,) but also there was a ball of hair in it. I just decided to not get my food from there again. I know people go there because of their green sauce, but there are other restaurants in Eastie that make a better sauce. Their delivery usually takes 50-70 minutes, even if they tell you 40 minutes. The lady that answers the phone is rude sometimes, and acts like you're wasting her time. In a nutshell, if you're looking for AUTHENTIC Peruvian food, you are much better off going to Pollo's a la Brasa Beto's in Bennington st. A group of friends and I ordered a bunch of chicken, which came with salad and ample fries. The salad came with aji dressing, which was actually really good. It had a little bit of a spicy kick, which pleasantly caught me by surprise. We also ordered bisteck a lo pobre (steak with a fried egg) and aji de gallina. The steak was tender and had good flavor. Man, I love Latin American spices. The aji de gallina was not very good. My Peruvian friend who organized the trip makes it better. One of the best parts of the meal was my licuado de guanabana (soursop shake). It reminded me of growing up in Puerto Rico!
