The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The service was spectacular. Our server, Juliet, was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything arrived on time. She provided excellent customer service throughout our visit. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we were especially impressed that the manager stopped by our table three different times to make sure everything was perfect and that we were enjoying our meal. If you're heading northbound on OBT, you'll have to make a U-turn to get in. Also, don't drive by into the 7-11 because it's difficult to get all the way back around the intersection of highways. Once you safely navigate and open the doors to the entry, you're going to be transported away to a small little Latin style paradise in South Orlando. The decor is fun and lively there. There's a lounge on the left side, a redecorated kitchen service window with marble and glass. The renovation is really nice looking and the main dining area has faux trees with parrots and romantic lighting throughout the restaurant. If you need, I saw a large space for parties in the back. As for the menu, it is classic Caribbean Crillo. I had a arroz con Pollo that was shaped like a bowl served upside down with the. Chicken off the bone (yes!) with a side of plantains. Everything was cooked perfectly. Surprisingly, the rice had a great depth of flavor. You could tell that the base was perfected overtime and they had a nice compliment of sauces. Including a chimichurri that I had with my salad, amazing! The Bill included a small tip. I added a little extra for the polite service and smiles throughout the evening and we left in under 30 minutes. We ate here today and there was a hair in the food. They seemed to think we were trying get one over on them. All we wanted was the plate to be remade. Not a new dish. Just a new plate without a hair in it. Best they could do was $3 off the hair plate. We had to order another entire plate and pay for it to get a dish without a hair. Terrible customer service. I'm adding this portion, because the owner replied my Google review by doubling down and saying "there was no evidence of a hair before it got to the table." This review isn't an indictment on the food containing a hair. Stuff happens, and I wouldn't have posted this review solely if the issue was a hair in the dish. I wouldn't discredit a restaurant's cleanliness when there is a one-time slip like this. It's the terrible way they dealt with it. Instead of just remaking the dish and bringing a plate without a hair, the owner wanted to challenge its existence when we showed them the hair. This was an expensive fish plate, too. We love trying different cuisines and cultured foods, but we decided to stick with what we know last night. Our culture of Latin/Colombian foods and flavors. I will first say, this place gets 2 stars from me. 2 for the food and 0 for the service. I am saying this because I do not agree with scamming the guest and trying to secretly work around the guest so we do not get over charged and items do not get added to the tables without consent. We went for a Birthday dinner, in which we payed a little to much, knowing we all wanted to order 1 lava cake at the end and secretly saying that 3 different parties from our table ordered 3 lava cakes all together and on top of all that added 1 more because they wanted to make our bill higher for the automatic gratuity. Yes, it's automatically added 15% to every table. In which that means no matter how you get treated you still have to pay a tip. Well, we have been in the customer service industry and have worked in many restaurants, we are probably 20-30% tippers, but when the service is terrible and stuff gets added to the bill with out consent, kind of makes you mad to pay someone for screwing you over. That's my rant. If you want food just as good and to pay a lot less for the same kind of plates, go to Trópico in Kissimmee only 10 mins away from this place or to La Estación in Kissimmee, only 20 mins away. Don't go to this place. It's not worth the amount you pay. Trust me. Tip, be specific on what you want. Order a margarita, don't let them add premium tequila ( if you don't want ) I am a bartender, margaritas don't need top shelf. Communication with the servers on specific orders, tell them you want 1 or 2 desserts, don't let them decide for you, they will add 2-3 if you don't specify how many you want on the table. If sharing a plate, make sure the other person does not order the same thing, they won't ask or anything, they will just add it to your check and once it hits the table you are paying for the dish. My husband and I checked out Pollos A La Braza Mario in a whim while traveling in the Orlando area. I ordered 1/4 rotisserie chicken and a chicken empanada and my hubby had grilled chicken breast. This place really doesn't get many stars from me. They only have one item on their child's menu and they are charging upscale prices for a diner atmosphere. I asked for the daily specials to see what they specialize in and the host assumed I didn't have money and said all the cheap stuff is right here. That bothered me. We really enjoyed Pollo a La Braza Mario! I saw it had mostly positive reviews and we see why! We ordered very different things and each enjoyed our dishes (I enjoyed a taste of everyone one's if I'm honest). My husband and daughter tend to be a bit picky and my husband said he could tell from the minute we walked in that it would be good. He enjoyed the arroz con pollo. He tends to like well seasoned meats and dishes in general. My daughter devoured the shrimp in garlic sauce (we had to ask her to slow down). I was super happy with the bandeja Mario. It was reminiscent of the bandeja típica I'm obsessed with from Tierra Columbiana in Philly. The mojitos were authentic and buy one get one free when we went! Can't beat that! Portions were great and so was the pricing; we went home with 3 boxes. Love that greens, rice and beans/fries were included. I really appreciated the effort they put in the aesthetics, the kitchen area was really pretty. I wanted to go with 5 starts but the bathroom wasn't very clean and our initial drink order wasn't correct. Very minor issues though, I would still highly recommend. What's wrong with that you may ask since some places do that? Well the problem is that they fail to tell you that, and it's in tiny tiny print hidden on the menu. Also they take the Itemized receipt and staple it to their copy as if to try to hide it. So you don't see it. I thought that was really sneaky on their part. I left another tip on top of that not realizing I was charged and only got hip to it the second time I dined there. We went to Pollos A la Braza Mario Colombian restaurant which was recommended by a staff member at our resort where we stayed. I'm glad we listen and went for dinner. It's worth the trip. So many options to choose from. We ordered a few different plates to try. We ordered the fresh juices. They have blackberry, mango, papaya, passion fruit, lulo, soursop and guava. By the way all are good choices. We had Mario's Special Platter to share because it's a very big plate which you can share with at least 3-4 people. The Grilled Steak is a good choice as well as the fish. I think whichever option you choose you can't go wrong and don't forget to order desserts. The desserts are yummy. The restaurant is kept clean. The prices are a bit pricey but was worth the trip for us since it's not every day we get to enjoy this type of food. The food and staff service was excellent. This place was awesome. We were on vacation and we were looking for something out of the way and this was the place. I had the chicken which was well cooked and seasoned. My older one tried empanadas for the first time and loved them. My husband had some kind of fish and loved it. The server said they were out of the special and warned him it was a whole fish not just a filet which he was fine with. We left an extra tip solely because he came out and warned him about the whole fish since most people won't eat it like that. When discussing the situation with the GM, she offered a free dessert, clearly not understanding or caring about the gravity of the issue. Don't spend your money supporting a place like this. After that I spit out my food and no longer wanted to eat. I told our waitress and the first thing she said was: "That's your hair. My hair is tied up." My hair was also tied up. Then someone else came up and said: "No one in this restaurant has blonde hair. It's from someone at this table." They took the food and only said that they can give me something else or replace it. Not once did they apologize and the first thing they did was blame me and my family that it was our hair. Eventually they took the food off the check, but the food wasn't even good. We had not been to this establishment in years. Now that we are back in this neighborhood we decided to give it a shot. Yes, still delicious. We ordered the rotisserie chicken, fries and beans. They brought out 3 different sauces - all tasty. We sat at the bar, in a corner table since the restaurant was packed. My only negative, fyi to management, the music in the bar area was ridiculously loud! It was only 3pm. If I would have had my apple watch on, I am sure it would have said the levels were dangerously high. We asked our waitress to turn it down a bit... it did not happen. There is no reason for this. This is a restaurant, not a club! ;). The prices were in line. Service was good. Fyi, 15% tip was automatically added for 2 people. We usually tip 20% but we left it as-is since they did it for us. Thank you for the discount! I would certainly come back but I would have to address the music levels at the bar with the manager if it became an issue again. I come here mainly for their soups. There's not to many Spanish restaurants with flavorful soup options served in large portions. Pass: I've tried several meat dishes, but the meat is just overcooked and chewy at times, including the chicharrones. Chicharrones should be crispy or crunchy. Their chicken soup was the only one that was standard enough not to reorder. My Favorite so far is: Oxtail beef soup served on Sundays. I was surprised that they served it the way my mom did growing up. They gave me soup, with rice and oxtail on a separate plate. It was a lot of food for sure. Favorite oxtail as compared to other restaurants. Second favorite is the Sopa de Mariscos (soup of the sea). It truly is the soup of the sea because it has scallops, octopus, crab legs, and shrimp. You should arrive starving because I think this can be shared between 3 people if you don't overeat. Location: It's not located in a touristic area either. Very local and run down buildings nearby. The hot sauce they make was pretty good and I doused my soup with it. Even the potatoes, plantains and corn within the soup were pretty tasteless, the yuca was ok. The rice and Latin coleslaw on the side was the best part of the meal in my opinion. My fiancé's breaded pork chop was better than my dish but nothing he would order again. An afternoon to remember!! We've eaten at this restaurant before and I have to say that the food is delicious and plentiful! However, tonight I felt like a young teenager on a first date!!! It was like picking up your date to go out for the first time; she looks beautiful, she smells heavenly, her skin feels so soft, yet when I went to kiss her for the first time, she had bad breath!!! My son, my wife, and I met this afternoon at this restaurant to have dinner and catch up (he's an adult and does not live with us) about the latest community gossip. Our waitress greeted us, took our order, and left. She was very nice and polite. My son ordered the steak and shrimp scampi, I ordered the breaded pork loin, and my wife ordered the a small chicken soup bowl; she was not hungry. Every dish was absolutely delicious!!! After dinner we asked for the check. As we continued to gossip our waitress brought the check. I briefly scanned through it, added a reasonable tip and signed the receipt. We finished our conversation and left the restaurant. After we drove away my wife asked me why did I tip twice? I asked her what did she mean? To both of our surprise, the waitress took the liberty to included a 15% gratuity tip on the bill; about $8. I also left her a $6 tip for a total of $14. In all fairness, I would have not mind an $8 tip, but my son and I were the ones having a meal and I felt $6 was enough. Long story short, I don't appreciate restaurants taking the liberty in deciding the value of their tips as a common practice, unless of course, the party is six or more people. So the next time I return to eat at Pollos Mario, I will make sure I read the receipt before I sign it; in other words, I will bring mints, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and even perhaps listerine to our second date!!! :-) read more
