I had my first lunch here at Grillers and as a Puerto Rican, I was excited. I want to get some boricua flavors for lunch and most importantly, they had my favorite appetizer.... the Alcapurria. So, you know that I had to try it. I had Alcapurrias, which was for $5.40 and the picture showed 3. Well, it was only one and I tried their mofongo with it and it just didn't hit like I hoped for. It lacked the flavor punch of Puerto Rican food and the Alcapurria (just one for $5.40), which too expensive for my taste. If I am to go solely by my experience, would I recommend this restaurant? No I wouldn't. I think it's expensive compared to the amount of food they gave versus their competitors. But, the people are very nice and professional and the restaurant is nice. We found this restaurant through TikTok. We were not disappointed. This is a smaller version of their main restaurant. Don't let the location by the truck stop sway you. I had the Mofongo with Shrimp in a Creamy Garlic Sauce. As I write this, my mouth is watering for more! Although it was creamy, it was not too heavy and rich. I ordered it with chicharrones and was thinking it would be inside the mofongo, but instead it was pork belly. I let my husband eat it and he loved it. It was perfect and the flavors were amazing. The food was absolutely fantastic. I found this little hole in the wall for lack of a better expression, and I felt like I was in Puerto Rico. I ordered Chuleta can can what is Chinese rice that came with shrimp and Tostones, my mom ordered Mofongo with baby back ribs, and my client ordered the same thing. I did with The, Spanish rice. My wife and I were in the mood for some good Puerto Rican food. So of course I pulled out my trusty Yelp and came across this gem. Now from the outside you would think nothing of it because there's no signs and it's at a truckstop on Orange Blossom Trail. Don't let the outside appearance fool you, this is a really good Puerto Rican restaurant!! I highly recommend the shredded pork & empanadas. They serve big portion sizes so be careful, I over ordered the first time. This place exceeded my expectations!!! If you are looking for a family style restaurant to eat with friends and family...this is definitely it!!!! We ordered the parrilladas for 4 (which really fed 4 adults and 3 kids) and it was amazing!!! My kids are the luckiest of eaters and they ate until they were stuffed. The parrilladas bring yellow rice and beans, grilled chicken breast, BBQ ribs, churrasco, fries, plantain chips, arrañitas de plátanos (spider plantains) and 2 sausages....soooo sooo good!!!!! Loved that they served it family style and everyone dug in before I could even take a picture...the only draw back and it's only a draw back if your hungry, is that they make everything to order. So we had to wait a bit before getting our food. Another drawback is that for this location, I wish they would put a sign outside the restaurant or signs pointing to the restaurant. It shared a location with a truck stop so it's kind of hard to find it if it's your first time there. They dont have any directions on what to do when you come in so here it is...when you come in go to the cashier to place your order and then pick a table to sit at. Once you place your order they will bring you your food. (Wish there was a sign for that as well) Would definitely comeback to try their mofongo relleno de churrasco y camarones (steak and shrimp)...tables next to us ordered those and it looked divine! Great family restaurant. Don't be fooled by the "attached to a gas station" thing. The food here is made fresh and very authentic. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The drinks (alcohol) was very limited but not a big deal, they had Medalla (Puerto Rican beer). The portions are huge and can be shared. I had the whole fish which was crunchy and juicy. Credit must be given when it is due, and the flavors on both items were FIRE! What was disheartening was after waiting about 30 minutes for food to be ready, everything was just room temp, shrimp were almost fully cold as was the rice. The waitress was a doll, came over, asked how everything was and I was happy to share that the flavor was absolutely BOMB! I mentioned the temp and she insisted on replacing the rice, but we were so hungry there was no way we were going to part with it. She actually brought another side of rice out despite us telling her it was not we would make due with what we had (it wasn't her fault, & we get that) Quite honestly, what made the meal DELISH was who ever was in charge of seasoning EVERYTHING. Despite the underwhelming temperature on most everything including the churrasco & mofongo itself, was that the seasoning which seriously was outstanding! So good, we said "to hell with it" and continued to devour the meal, despite the shrimp being legit... almost fully cold. We also found out that all of the Tik Tok famous videos of the lobster mofongo, and the arroz con gandules rissoto are only offered in their Kissimmie location. We were also taken a-back at the modest size of our Mar y Tierra mofongo which was a $26 splurge, and as you can see in the photo it was quite small. We were expecting it to look similar to the ones we saw advertised on social media. Naturally, we assumed it was a shareable portion... it was not, def a one person meal. So for what you see photographed (one mofongo, 2 beers, and a side of rice it will set you back $40. To end on a positive note, flavor was there on just about everything, including the creamy ajo sauce (amazing!) again, if everything would have came out nice and hot, and had the mofongo reflected the price point, this would've been a 10/10.
