My favorite grilled chicken around. Nice flavor all the way through and great grill flavor. Open on Fridays and the weekend

Opened in 2016, Slappy's is "Carolina Dipped Chicken" which is something I've not encountered…read morebefore. Different than "Nashville Hot Chicken" where a hot paste is added after cooking, this is dunked in a tangy, spicy sauce after cooking. Carolina's version leans into a vinegar-pepper flavor that's typical of Eastern NC barbecue. I arrived just before the lunch rush so I was able to get a table near the door where I could enjoy my lunch while watching the queue grow a bit. The chicken was moist and flavorful, still very hot from the fryer. Hot enough that I had to start with a knife and fork to tear it up before I could dig in. My sides were okay. The potato salad was a mush. Pleasant flavor but no texture that leaned into mashed territory. The mac and cheese was good but overdone noodles and no "tang" from the cheese. I'd try other sides next time. Slappy's is consistently rated as a top fried chicken place in a state of great fried chicken places. The concept is top-notch and the chicken was great. The sides let it down for me. [Round number 24500 overall - 945 of 2025 - 4348 in North Carolina]

I get to this little place about once every six weeks. My order is rather boring on the surface, but as I said this place is about keeping it simple, and I do. I get 1/2 chicken (both uppers), I get the superb sauce on the side, along with 2 additional servings of sauce! My sides are M & C and Collards, and I get a small container of vinegar for the collards - the vinegar, other condiments, and other helpful items are up front to the far left of the counter. Once in a while l will get a scoop of their Chicken Salad. There is very little salad here - this made up of 99% diced chicken with a little mayo - the chicken is full of flavor. When home I add a bit of diced celery, a touch of chopped onion, a bit of dill relish, some parsley, a some of my home made curry powder - damn, that rocks! This is good food, good people, and I hope folks will continue to support their efforts.

Help, fam! You know how we do over here--you never really know where life will take us, and…read morehonestly, that's part of the joy. This time, we found ourselves in the beautiful state of North Carolina, specifically Durham. I was in the area for a pop-up event, and after a successful day, my family and I decided to explore some local eateries. I had never been to Durham before, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to take it all in. We came across a nearby food hall in an amazing walkable area. There was even a festival happening across the street, which made the experience even better. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming it honestly gave Mayberry vibes, like something straight out of The Andy Griffith Show. Naturally, we worked up an appetite and headed into the food hall, where we stumbled upon Patty Boy's. And if you know me, you know I'll never turn down a good burger. The menu had plenty of great options, but you already know my philosophy I like to keep it simple the first time. So, we ordered a junior cheeseburger with fries. Let me tell you... that burger did not disappoint. The patties were fresh, the cheese added the perfect extra flavor, and everything was made to order. We waited about ten minutes, but there were so many other spots to check out that the time flew by. Although we usually grab our food to go (especially with a two-hour drive ahead of us), we decided to eat in and I'm so glad we did. Hot and fresh was the way to go. The service was great, the food was even better, and it was the little touches that stood out. We even received a small rubber duck with our meal, which I thought was the coolest thing! I've had a lot of burgers in my day, but this one definitely ranks up there. I highly recommend this spot promise you won't be disappointed.

I got the pickle patty melt and loaded tots. The tots were amazing-fresh, well seasoned, and fresh toppings (cheese, bacon, and scallions). I did feel it was a super small portion size in relation to the price. I was traveling so I didn't get to eat my burger right away. I would say it didn't reheat well but could still tell the burger was well seasoned. I wish I would have enjoyed it fresh-no fault of the restaurant. I would definitely give it another try if I'm in the area.

The restaurants are very consistent in their Carolina-style design--homey, comfortable, and straightforward. The wall art adds character and reinforces the local feel without being overdone. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making sure every need was met. I ordered the large BBQ plate with slaw and baked beans. A generous portion of hushpuppies was sprinkled on top. The pulled pork is seasoned in classic Eastern North Carolina barbecue fashion--thin, tangy, vinegar-forward, and lightly seasoned. That same vinegar-based sauce is on the tables, along with Texas Pete. The portion size on the large platter was substantial enough that I asked for a to-go box and took leftovers home. Since they offer banana pudding--a North Carolina favorite of mine--I ordered one and enjoyed it there. The 'Nilla wafers are mixed directly into the pudding, exactly where they belong. Their banana pudding, like their hushpuppies, is excellent. Another great Eastern North Carolina barbecue experience.

Estimated time was 15 min for everything. They accept cards, but prefer cash. For a double cheeseburger, 2 normal cheeseburgers, bbq special plate and 3 fries with an added side of creamed potatoes it was around $60? With tip. Whoever is back there cooking, I applaud them. This is some good food. It was seasoned perfectly. Burgers were thick and tasty. The BBQ chicken was moist and flavorful. Creamed potatoes were chunky and absolutely perfect. Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. Baked beans were sweet although I was not expecting onions in them but still very good. Fries were normal fries, did lack salt but I mean you're probably not here for the fries honestly. If you've never been here like me, please visit. This place is good. I highly recommend to anyone!

I got the double bacon cheeseburger and it was one of the best tasting burgers I've had in years. The French fries and burger were hot up until it was consumed. Can't wait to go back and bring my family.
