I hadn't come here since i was a kid, but my husband had never been so we decided to go late one Saturday night. Super packed but we got a table right away. Our waitress wasn't all that friendly, and seemed like she had a bit of an attitude but the food made up for it. The antojitos were amazing. We also shared a personal Napolitana cheese pizza. I'm not a fan of Cuban pizza, even though I'm Cuban ...but my husband liked it. It was good for Cuban pizza, i just don't like all the bread they use. The Copa Lolita we had for dessert was also amazing. Great flan, great ice cream, great variety of flavors. Some other waitresses, which were much nicer took care of us the rest of the time, because our original waitress disappeared. Overall, i think it was better than i remembered as a kid. I was excited to try the pizza here after reading the reviews on yelp and also being recommended by a friend to go. Unfortunately, I was let down. Basically, I wouldn't go back again, not because it was horrible, because it wasn't , it was just not great, and for me to eat and enjoy my pizza it has to be well worth those calories. I also got to try the Cuban food, which was pretty good, but with so many options in that category, I wouldnt drive out of my way to go eat the Cuban food either. I will say however that the service was really good, and I didn't try the ice cream or the milk shakes which looked delicious. read more

When I did live in hialeah ( late 90's and early 2000's) my stepfather & mother loved this place! They ate the pizza all the time, while im not a big fan of their pizza - the food was actually pretty good. Since moving to Palm Beach over 7 years ago - it's hard getting good Cuban Cuisine, so when the wife and I head down south we do try to take advantage of the several amazing foods that Miami has to offer. A late night decision, we decided to take the family at about 11pm to grab some food and this place was packed!!! the wait time wasn't very long - like about 10 minutes or so! They had several items to choose from, your typical cuban style sandwiches and meals to what my family members inform us (AMAZING DESERTS). I typically order a Pollo a la Plancha (spanish grilled chicken breast) with some tostones (fried smashed plantains) and rice/ beans. Again, coming from Palm Beach where there are few real Cuban restaurants that can even cook this dish well - my plate was done the way i like it! It had flavor, was moist, had onions and can not complain about it. My wife had a pizza topped off with fried sweet plantains - which i've never seen before but than again it's HIALEAH... so nothing surprise me. Overall, the experience was great - service could be a bit better but with a packed house - i let this one pass! So, when we are in town and get a late night craving - I know where we can go! read more

Their Cuban pizzas and ice creams are to die for! Must try! I really always go for a small caeser salad and a personal cheese pizza cause why deviate from something so amazing to try something new?! Their Cuban styled pizza are thick, but they taste better thank any thick styled pizza from other popular pizza chains. They have these shakes called "malteadas" which I have to get every time I go! They are extremely sweet and if you love over the top sugary drinks like I do then this one is for you! DO's: - personal sized pizzas (good size, good ratio of ingredients) - sausage pizza (better than my hubby's beef pizza) DONT's: -mariquitas (they were average - skimped on the garlic sauce which is the main reason you eat mariquitas) - family sized pizzas (even the sausage one) - garlic bread (dry, bland, stiff, not worth it) For some reason the large pizzas are noticeably less tasty than the personal ones. They have way too much bread. And I'm like a carbohydrate 711 - I'm always open for them! When you think of Cuban Pizza and you're from Miami, you immediately think of El Polo Norte. El Polo Norte offers the best family size pizza in town. The toppings are generally tasty and the sauce is not too overpowering or sweet. Jordan N. commented that Cuban pizza is unique. I agree. There is something particularly Cuban about it and I think the secret is with the dough which reminds me of Cuban bread. I suppose the secret is pork lard as the flavor is common to that found in Cuban bread and crackers. The toppings are unique. The sausage used is somewhat spicier than what you'd typically expect to find on your pizza and it tastes more like Chorizo than other types of sausages. The cheese is not mozzarella but a combination of cheeses and I would not be surprised if the mixture contains Swiss. The toppings, dough, sauce, and the way that the cheese crisps on the edges of the pizza (which is always deep dish consistency) make it a unique experience in itself. A slice of this pizza is comparable to a full meal, especially if order a pizza with their unique "mixta" mix. Aside from the pizza, El Polo Norte also offers traditional Cuban dishes, such as Chicken Milanese, black beans and rice, Palomilla steak and a nice assortment of homemade ice creams with tropical flavors. That being said, I've found the Cuban food (not the pizza) to be rather bland and rushed in preparation. I would rather go for the pizza and not the Cuban food. This particular location is located in strip mall. It is very crowded inside you'll be immediately taken aback by the hustle and bustle of the waitresses and counter. The seating is tight and getting a good table can be a hassle. If you're not a local it can be very intimidating and if you don't speak English you may have a difficult time communicating with your server. Service is generally quick and waitresses are friendly. Pros: Pizza. Best Cuban Pizza in TOWN! They deliver, which is awesome if you're in the area... they also deliver their ice cream too. Cons: Location, seating, crowd can be boisterous at times. Would generally not be a place I would recommend out of town folk or non locals to go in and sit down for a meal. Would not expect it to be gay friendly, not a place I'd take my partner. read more

The actual epitome of utterly terrible service by always-pissed women and pervy "swag-ful" young men in Miami. First and foremost, I am a Cuban/Puerto Rican from Texas and am too used to Southern Hospitality.. The entire process of waiting in line, ordering, waiting for the food, eating, and waiting almost half an hour to get the check from our waitress took about THREE hours all for only a so-so meal. I ordered their Friday special of a tamal en cazuela with their given sides. The rest of my group (consisting of two families) got their food before me. They were halfway through their meals and I hadn't gotten mine yet. When politely asking a young waiter who was near our table, he was extremely rude and brushed it off saying "The food will get there." I figured the tamal would at least be good, but even my own Cuban dad has cooked it better than that. I ended up having to eat off my family member's plates because it was completely inedible and had no meat whatsoever in it. Now, their ice cream, congri, and vaca frita, etc, are incredible. Don't get me wrong. But this place is in dire need of some new servers, a better system, and homier cooking. All in all, I'd say the single star I've given is VERY much well deserved. read more

Llamarle pésimo sería un complemento o piropo como le decimos los cubanos. Esperamos 27 minutos antes de que se acercara a nuestra mesa. Después de media hora nos sirvieron agua. La comida tardó 1:20 para servirla en la mesa y que decirles, el sabor pésimo y todo frío. La pizza cubana ahora mismo en la habana con la crisis del COVID se encuentra mejor pizza que la que venden ellos. Todo fué un desastre. Las mesas de al lado se miraban unos a los otros y se podía escuchar los malos comentarios hacia el servicio y la demora. Podría estar escribiendo por una hora para describir la mala experiencia que vivimos. El dueño se acercó a una mesa para saludar a un conocido y este último se quejó. Después lo escuchamos dirigirse hacia la mesera y le dijo, favor encárgate de la 42 o la 43 no recuerdo bien. Pues pasó casi una hora y nadie se acercó. I loved this place. We went to the one located on Bird Road (SW 40th Street) & approx 137 Avenue......It was excellent. Huge menu w/ so much variety. We had sopa de res (beef soup), just like the one my grandma used to make. Delicious. By the time we finished the huge bowl for under $3.00, we were stuffed. I ordered Spaghetti con Picadillo (Spaghetti w/ Cuban ground beef)...OMG.....it was so good......just like we used to have it when I was small. They have Cuban pizzas w/ maduros & picadillo, all types of Cuban food, Cuban style pasta, and so many flavors of ice cream, Cuban banana split...batidos....fritas......too much variety to mention (the steak sandwich my dad ordered, we had to bring half home).
