I was told by a friend that Polo Norte was a well known ice cream shop in Cuba back in the day.... I know it as cuban pizza joint that serves ice cream and some really really good cuban food! There's a least 3 of these Polo Norte stores in Miami Dade, I've only been to this particular spot several times and have only one complaint ...the service in the actual restaurant is not all that great, this place is always packed hence the good food. So I basically always order delivery from this place. They serve the best shakes here. They call them sueros... El Suero Chocolate is my absolute favorite... omg so yummy. Try the creamy cheesy soup with shredded ham called Crema Virginia. I also recommend to try "boniato relleno con tasajo" it's sweet potato filled with a delicious salty shredded beef, usually a daily special item that I havn't seen it on the actual menu. The vaca frita here is on point, fried shredded beef with grilled onions, I always have it with rice and black beans. My friends at work consistently order the shrimp pizza for lunch... I've tried several different sandwiches from here before and have always been satisfied. read more

I have ordered many times in the past from this restaurant. They just lost a long time patron today. I called to ask if they deliver to my new address in Miami Lakes. When I spoke English the lady that answered the phone did not respond and hung the phone up on me. Very unprofessional service. I will no longer order from them again. Came here with the family for a Saturday afternoon late lunch. We were sat immediately at a table of our choosing (we went with a booth). Menus and waters for the table were provided quickly and our waiter took our order as soon as we were ready. Our pizzas came out rather quickly but we had to ask for the milk shake and garlic bread twice. Overall the experience was okay and not mind blowing. the pizzas were not as good as they have been in the past. I consider this place to be appropriately rated at 3 stars. As we began to cut the pizza, we found areas of mold within the breading of the base of the pizza. How unsanitary! Why would you have pizza dough that is days old? As a family we have been visiting Polo Norte on 540 W 29th St m Hialeah for many years, since our children were children. -The service, always like flipping a coin. There have been good waitresses who are no longer there. Now, it depends on the experience of the waitress on duty. Some excellent, others lost because they don't know what to do and others dormant, it depends on luck. But it is a common gate almost anywhere you go. Service is important, but if the food is acceptable, other deficiencies are tolerated. -The food has always been that of any common restaurant and the pizza the same as that of any "neighborhood pizzeria." ICE CREAMS. What stood out at Polo Norte were the ice creams. Excellence in Quality. It was a pleasure to enjoy them in addition to the presentation. THE BAD NEW? They killed him. We went as a family and although the syrup, the biscuits, the ground cookies, etc., have been disappearing in the presentation (topping), now they gave it the final shot. They lowered the quality of the ice cream to a point that is embarrassing. The employee brought me almond, muscat and strawberry (Tres Gracias) or rather Three Misfortune. The almond barely had any flavor, the muscat, which "in the past" even had pieces of grape, didn't taste like anything, it might have been a watery vanilla and the strawberry was sweet and had an extract flavor of who knows what. Their pizza is a must try a great family size with lots of flavor and the cheese is amazing l, they offer great natural juices and soft drinks, there customer service is really nice and friendly very welcoming and location is easy to find and close to the Miami airport for a great quick stop before flying out they offer other great dishes on there menu and delicious desserts that are a must try as well you can tell they love to see their Customers enjoy there food. The location is very clean as well and not to noisy so you can carry a nice conversation and the music is very relaxing environment like I said very nice my experience here it's my 1st time coming to this place and I'm glad that I tried it. I always get the tuna salad, I honestly have never ordered anything else on the menu, I've had that tuna salad about 50-60 times in the past 10 years and it never disappoints. It's pretty much our go-to fast food when visiting that area. The place is clean, affordable, and welcoming. It is always full, day or night, so we usually order pick up. Cons: The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but this locale does not cater to fancy folks, so I don't think anyone minds. This is probably the best known casual Cuban pizzeria in Miami, for its quality rather than for the hours (El Rey took that title). Polo Norte is a favorite among the Cubans in Miami, for their Cuban pizzas and for the ice ceam shop that this place really is. You can even order a "suero" f(an ice cream shake), the old fashioned way with syrup, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry on top. Plus, for ice cream, it's a pretty good deal since each scoop is approximately $1.50, and three scoops will have you forking over less than $4. And on top of that... they have 32 flavors of ice cream to offer. And if you have kids, there's a kid's menu as well. This is a very kid-friendly establishment, price-wise as well. Service was top-notch, so your kids won't have much to complain about in regards to the "waiting" if you catch my drift. ;-) And this is what I've had to explain about Cuban pizza in another review: Cuban pizza is just pizza. But if you're looking for the best - then put away all preconceived notions of what pizza is (like you did with Pizza Rustica, you know it)! It's not New York style. Not Chicago, Sicilian, Napolitan, or even Roman. It's Cuban, and just that. You're going to have a hard time finding it outside of Miami, this may as well be one of the featured food of Miami's unique local scene. So, let's get to the nitty gritty with the question that almost virtually everyone asks: "What is Cuban pizza?" It is thick and soft, like focaccia, but with a different dough. Pizza Rustica? No, because it is softer than that. Sauce? The one I had had little sauce, and I like it that way. It was made up for with the plenty toppings that my pizza had. Tons of cheese (and the cheese even tastes Cuban!). And the toppings can get interesting - chorizo (spanish sausage), platanos maduros (plantains), and so forth. I had the cheese with onions and it was yummy. MINIMUM CREDIT CHARGE: $10 REVISITED: Stay away from the mushy pasta - Cubans generally like their pasta like this. The cheese soup was okay, but that's after I added the pepper and salt. Also avoid the overly sweet rum cake - it's nothing like the better ones I've had in Miami. You can come for the ice cream - generally it's good, affordable, and is done with a colorful decoration - and there's interesting flavors such as the Guava. I didn't like the Mamey sherbet - I found it lacking flavor. Dear West Hialeah Polo Norte, you have some 'splainin to do! Polo Norte needs a little bit of work to get to 5 stars. I'm calling it just over 3 stars - 3.2, 3.3 - and hoping to update them later. Although they're famous for their Cuban style pizzas - and some of the ones I saw on the menu looked interesting - I ordered a Chicken cordon bleu ("Pechuga Rellena"). I won't complain about the portion size or taste. It was big enough to get my fill yet reasonable that I could finish it in one sitting. Looking almost like a corn dog, the lightly breaded chicken breast was lean on the inside and stuffed with pieces of ham, bacon, tomato pieces and cantinpalo chorizo. I'm guessing they were plum tomato instead of some canned sauce, as I could taste the tartness of them. The flavor combination was indeed delicious! The moros (black beans and rice) weren't overly greasy, and sprinkling the piece of lemon gave the taste a nice highlight. As far as sides, the mariquitas were plentiful, crispy and not greasy. I'm not a fan of the creamy mustard based dipping sauce, so I ate them clean. The cortadito at the end of my dinner hit the spot, and was potent enough to keep me up until almost 4AM. As I mentioned, there are some loose ends where Polo Norte needs some improvement: though tasty, the sweet plantains did look a little bit on the burnt side. However, they did taste normal. The crust of the creme brulee wasn't crispy and collapsed with my spoon barely digging in. Also, although I asked for coke, I got Sprite both of the times. read more

Ordered 1 drink and it was still not ready after more than 30 minutes, I still had to wait even more because the maduros weren't ready and then another employee comes up to say how maduros have being laying in the back for a while. But wait it gets worse, the pork was raw, the soup was a disgusting clump of cold broken cheese and the tostones are extremely stale. After looking at the menu and reading reviews that the pizza was the go-to item, I ordered the chorizo and onion pizza. When the pizza arrived, I was expecting the toppings to be on top not inside the pizza. You know...like a Domino's or Papa John's pizza where the toppings are only on top. But nope, the toppings were baked in. That's a good thing, right? Yes! The thickness of the pizza was good. Then I had a scoop of coco almendrado (coconut almond) ice cream which was DELISH and only $1.85. Service was meh. The waitress wasn't very personable and forgot to bring us a Jupiña that we ordered.
